So I have driven past this pub a million and one times and never been in. I have always been distracted by the bright lights of the eating houses in nearby Erskineville, Newtown and Enmore.
After coming across their Facebook page recently, and Liking it, I started to notice they were really pro-active in getting customers in with all sorts of deals.
So when the opportunity arose for me to suggest a new venue by the other half I jumped at the opportunity.
So to start, this venue is nestled in the residential area of Alexandria right across the road from the infamous (for good reasons) Erskineville Oval.
The venue is clean, happy and very inviting.
There is a great rage of beers on taps and an incredibly well considered wine list - (don't think the owner is part of a Chain or Buying Group (which is a good thing)).
We sat down stairs who a quick pre-dinner beverage and all was good.
Then upstairs to a great space which is the restaurant. It is a big open room with a bar. I love this for two reason, firstly, no running up and down the stairs by the staff all the time for drinks and secondly, it is great for parties and functions.
We mixed and matched our entrees, which were above average and all came out one after the others. They were a little comfort food, which is good for the venue and it's location. They included grilled Halloumi, Bruschetta, fried Duck rolls, mixed olives serviced in warm oil (tick) and spicy chicken wings with blue cheese sauce - all went down a treat.
Main included a spicy vegetarian burger, chicken schnitzel, a New York Steak and Sirloin.
This is where it came a little undone - the schnitzel and the burger were great and just want the consumers wanted, but sadly both the Sirloin and the New York, cooked perfectly Medium and Blue, were tough. They were a little on the warm side, the chips were warmer and one of the salads had no dressing.
Somewhat disappointing ending, especially being a Monday night, but it won't stop us from going back again. read more
