After a long, 11 year wait my wife and I decided to buy an above ground pool. We were so close to going with a small, local pool company, but decided going with The Great Escape instead due to the number of pools they install in our community. We thought they must really know what they're doing, that's when the nightmare began. Come to find out, they don't have installers, they actually contract with another company to do the installs, right away I knew we would get screwed somehow when I heard that. Get this, the install crew ( looked more like a bunch of convicts ) is not even from here, but travels 50+ miles to do the installs. That quickly became a problem with numerous so called weather issues where they would cancel a workday because it might rain, yeah... 50 miles away, sunny here. On about the third day of installation I got the nerve to ask the girl at the install company how long a pool like mine should take to complete... Ready for this? 4-6 hours! It took this crew at A&D Services of Hobart,IN 2 weeks and they didn't even complete the job... After all this they tell me I was shorted 3 bags of sand for the filter so they couldn't finish the job! I had enough, I was done with these half naked, tattooed, cigarette butt littering, lazy, excuse ridden fools that I was going to finish the job myself! So after driving 18 miles to get my sand from The Great Escape I called and got instructions from the Install Crew Leader on how to finish the job, I was done in 10 minutes, mind you they could have got the sand down the street at Lowes and just finished the job they started weeks ago but they thought it'd be better to just leave it up to me and drive 1 1/2 hours back home and call it a day! The worst part is I have an oval pool and they did not follow the recommended instructions from my pool manual and instead of trenching the support channels and laying the pressure plates level with the ground they just put mounds of sand over them so now there is a 6" variance on my pool floor, I actually stubbed my toe on it. The entire floor is full of divots and craters from this install crew not properly compacting the sand and not trenching the support channels like every good pool installer and pool company recommends. The scary thing is that The Great Escape knows this kind of purchase is once in a lifetime so they know they don't need to earn your business as a repeat customer, they can continue giving horrible service by using installers who don't care about the end result. Their customer is The Great Escape, not the pool owner, so the pool owner will continue to get the shaft! Now I have to call the Pool Install Company back out this fall to drain the pool and fix what they should've done right the first time! Which means another 2 weeks of dealing with this incompetent install crew and their never ending excuses on why they can't finish the job. But wait there's more, after trying to do the right thing and getting a permit to have the pool put up I found out from the St. Joseph county building department that I couldn't get a permit because A&D Services was not licensed to do the work! That's a whole other story though. Let's see, what else... Oh yeah, when we asked the salesman how the mechanicals work and how to get the pump, chlorinater, and filter started, his advice was to look on youtube!
So glad I wasted $4,000+ at The Great Escape.
Sincerely,
