It's sad when a great restaurant becomes an average to poor one. I gave 3 stars for the Clam Chowder. It was creamy, flavorful with nice size calms. We were a table of 3, each ordered the Haddock with baked potato dinner. Haddock was nicely fried but small portions for dinner plate. The baked potatoes were cold and tasted reheated, perhaps from yesterday. The restaurant temperature was so cold that the food got cold very fast. The temperature was uncalled for, no reason to freeze the customers. I could hear other customers complaining about temperature and nothing was done. Service was very good, server was very pleasant and attentive. Sad to say we won't be back soon or never. What once was a favorite restaurant has fallen off our go to list. We tried The Great Catch Restaurant for the first time, and it was such a pleasant surprise! It's located in a strip mall and definitely has a bit of a "hole-in-the-wall" feel, but don't let that fool you--this place is spotless. I was genuinely impressed to see a staff member deep-cleaning tables between guests. I have a gluten allergy, and the staff were great about helping me find a safe option. I ordered the jumbo mahi taco with no tortilla as a modification to avoid gluten. There was a $.99 upcharge to substitute the side to avoid gluten which felt a bit silly, but the meal was delicious and well worth it. My husband ordered the shrimp basket, and it was excellent--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Overall, great service, extremely clean, and really tasty food. We had a wonderful experience here! We walked in and were seated immediately with no wait, which was a great start to the evening. To begin, we ordered the fried green tomatoes and fried gator, and both were absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. For my meal, I ordered the fried shrimp dinner--wow! It came with a huge portion of shrimp, and the batter was perfectly seasoned and crispy. My son ordered a burger, my husband had the grilled grouper, and my other son got the lobster mac & cheese. My husband said the grouper was very fresh, and the lobster mac & cheese had large chunks of lobster and was another very generous portion. The service was excellent--our waiter was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, the food was fresh, the portions were large, and the service was great. Saw an Instagram post about this place so decided to check it out. The restaurant is located inside of Avay strip mall. The website indicated that reservations were recommended so I made a reservation online. When we arrived, there was no need to utilize the call ahead that was done because seating was available immediately. The restaurant is spacious and clean. One note on the bathroom the soap dispenser was broken and the floor was a bit sticky. Our waitress was friendly and professional. We placed our order for drinks, appetizers, and entrées at the same time. That was probably a bad decision because our food was not timed appropriately by the kitchen. We received our appetizers and within 2 minutes we received our entrees. This caused us to rush through our meal to try to eat it while it was still hot. However, my baked potato was just warm. Also, the lobster bisque was sent back because it was too salty. That was taken off of our bill. The green beans and seafood casserole were under salted, but that is better than being too salty. The haddock was good. Overall, I would say this was mediocre. Not worth the hour drive for me. read more

I wasn't even sure if I was going to write this review, but I feel like It needs to be shared. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now and i was finally able to last night. When I came in i waited just a couple of mins for the waitress to come back up to the front. She seated me right away. Not too long after I was seated my male waiter came over and asked what he could get me to drink. I just wanted a water and he walked away so quickly I had to almost pause him so i could put in my order of calamari. I was a little shocked because it was my first time there and in most cases the waiter will ask you have you been there before, before telling you a little about the menu and I didn't receive any of that during my experience. There was several times where i would go a long time without seeing him. The second time he came around he asked me if I wanted to order food. Mind you I hadn't even received my calamari yet. I politely declined and told him I wanted to wait until after i received my app. By now I was starting to feel some type of way and ready to leave because it seemed as if I was being rushed or he didn't want to service me. But since I was already there i went ahead and ordered my lobster roll. Soon as I finished I immediately asked for my check because I didn't want to spend another min in there. Some of my other observations I noticed is that the floors were filthy, looks like they only clean the table tops and not underneath when they turn tables because there was all kinds of leftover food, straw wrappers on the floor and not to mention how sticky it was. And my last observation was that they sat myself and 2 other black families all in a row, im not sure if this was coincidence or because of anything else, but it kind of made me raise my eyebrow while also observing who i think was the manager circle around to certain tables to check in on their experience and not all the tables. All in all I'm not sure if I would come here again just on the customer service alone but the food was good so if you like seafood you should go for that. read more

We went to the Great Catch on a regular basis when they were at their old location and always had great food and service. we went to their new location tonight. I ordered grilled basa with a baked potato and cup of lobster bisque. the lobster bisque was thick and tasted weird not at all like I've ever tasted and not a piece of lobster in sight. my grilled basa was swimming in grease and was like a salt lick, same for my husband and my baked potato was raw. My husband saw an ad on FB for, The Great Catch by Taste of Boston, and decided to take us there for lunch. I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the place. A smallish entrance in a not to nice looking strip center. ( never judge a book by its cover. Lesson learned) The atmosphere was nautical themed. Lights down a bit made it very cozy. Several large screen TV's were playing different channels. Everything looked clean, a bit old fashioned, but very nice. We were seated by a very nice, cheerful waitress named Alayna. The menu's have seen better days but were easily read. Alayna took our drink request and hurried away. People began arriving, filling booths and tables. I only saw Alayna taking care of the guests. She was very quick attending everyone, yet maintained her cheerful attitude. She returned with our drinks, took our orders and headed away. I will admit, I was taken aback with the prices. Yes, they were a bit high for lunch but we were even happier when our huge pile of food arrived. I ordered clam strips. They were very lightly covered in a thin batter that didn't disguise the flavor of the clam strips. The meal came with a hefty amount of fries, also lightly coated in a tasty dusting of flavoring. The meal came with coleslaw too. My husband ordered a hamburger...a monster of a burger! A pound of meat, with lettuce, tomatoes and other additions. He couldn't even fit his mouth over it! We also ordered crab bites which were ok. We ordered French onion soup too. The soup was fantastic! None of that greasy stuff or fake tasting stuff used at other places. The ice tea also tasted like it was old fashioned made with tea and real sugar. We were very happy with our entire meal. The Great Catch by Taste of Boston is a most definite try. We will go back. I ended up choosing the blackened scallops and buffalo shrimp. They're usually served with fries and coleslaw but I didn't want the coleslaw so they offered double fries. This place is hit or miss! The 1st time we went service and food was excellent. The 2nd time service n food were not good. Server was cold and was basically like a robot took our order brought our food. My lobster roll the bread was stale and when the plate arrived at the table it was tilted over so most of the lobster filling was out of the bun. We had been to this restaurant a couple of other times when they were in their old location down the road on our trips to Lutz. It was always good and they were always busy. Our first clue should have been that they were not busy on a weekend during the dinner hour. The staff was friendly and very efficient. The food was okay, nothing special. Expensive for the food that you get. We had the seafood casserole, the shrimp basket that was the "special", and the crabcake bites. No drinks. Our dinner came to $80. The shrimp basket, we could have gotten at Captain D's for a 1/3 of the price and it would have been just as good. The seafood casserole was good, but not worth $29! It was hard to find any crab in the crab bites. Mostly just stuffing. We will not be back. read more

The food was absolutely horrible yesterday at lunch. Scallops were soggy and hush puppies were raw in the middle.............twice!!!! Haddock should have been Cajun fried..........NOPE. This seafood restaurant, located in a strip mall, was as expected. The grilled grouper was done just right and a generous portion. The side in this Caesar salad, though, was a disappointment because it was like bagged lettuce with bottled Caesar dressing on top. The side order of onion rings was very generous, but nothing special. Most of the seafood menu items were fried and the menu was quite extensive. All in all I thought it was a little pricey, but satisfactory. Service was great, the server was very polite and attentive. Being from New England, we were truly looking forward to this! We were met with kindness and cared for equally throughout our visit. Prices were market prices, as expected. I want everyone to try this place because my pallet is super particular when it comes to clam chowder and whole belly clams. Chowder was not as homemade as I'd like it to taste though it was not bad at all. The best part was the onion rings! If you like them thin cut with flakey batter, this is your next stop!!! The positives, the mahi mahi (blackened) was PHENOMENAL! Amazing fish, some of the best I've ever had! Great portion size too. I was very hungry after riding dirt bikes with a friend all morning and I couldn't even finish the mahi portion. I would 1,000% come back for the mahi mahi. SOOOO GOOD!!!! The negatives, the sides were terrible. I got a cup of lobster bisque as one of my sides and it had no lobster meat in it at all. I was also ripped off, I was charged a full $6.99 for the cup of bisque but it was missing the garlic bread. ($3.00 for the side cost itself plus a $3.99 upcharge. I pointed this out to the waitress too) Baked potatoe was very forgettable and bland too, tasted like a microwaved potato. I asked for the garlic bread and explained the issue to the waitress and she didn't seem to care so I took the cost difference off her tip and wrote a note on the check. read more

We also got a margarita that tasted more like a whiskey sour. We ordered a couple other drinks that were good. The service was great. We ordered hush puppies as an appetizer, waited over 20 minutes because the cook burnt the first ones. The clams were dry, onion rings were just straight up bad. They lacked any flavor that an onion would have. My fish resembled a cold chicken tender and the texture was rubbery and dry. We were the only person there besides one other table & the host/waitress/manager didn't check on us for over 25 minutes after our food arrived. The place looked like a decent restaurant but turned out to be no better than long John silvers. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Edit: 20 minutes later & we at McDonald's throwing up. This place is GROSS. Cute place in a strip plaza. The food was very good. Service was also spot on. Atmosphere was about what you'd expect, clean & nothing fancy. From what we could tell, the seafood was very fresh & hand breaded. That was a great surprise since so many of the times, clam strips are the frozen kind that are dumped out of the freezer and into the fryer. These clam strips had a very nice crispy batter-like breading & were delicious. The same breading was on the onion rings.... Light and crispy. The fries were also done perfectly; soft inside & crispy outside. The Buffalo shrimp were very tasty as well. The only thing that I wasn't crazy about was the fact that the plastic containers containing the tartar & cocktail sauces were left on the tables at room temperature. Mayonnaise at room temp for any length of time is a big no-no, so even though I wanted it on my clam strips, I decided against it. This is probably something they should address. read more

Picked the great catch based on yelp reviews and it showing up in a foodie list. We had a party of eight, and we're very happy with the service and all of our dishes. My wife had the foot-long lobster roll and was very impressed with the quality. We live have the year in New England so getting a good lobster roll is important. I tried the catfish dinner and it was great. The fish was cooked perfectly, and my sides. We're all prepared well. Two of group tried Basso Fish? None of us had ever heard of it, but they definitely enjoyed the flavor and recommended the blackened version. Definitely will be back . read more

I saw this place on Instagram, which I am normally weary of, but my husband and I decided to go anyway. As someone who grew up in the northeast, this is probably one of my favorite seafood places I've tried in FL so far. The place looks like it could be set in downtown Boston (but with nicer people) From the wonderful service, to the appetizers and the main course, they did not miss a beat! We had the fried shrimp and hush puppies for apps, the shrimp was not overdone, not a bunch of breading. The hush puppies were fully cooked but not dry. I had the seafood casserole with pasta and my husband chose shrimp and scallops. The only thing I'm upset about is I couldn't eat it all at once. We came on a Tuesday, but will be back on a Wednesday when it's all you can eat Basa, shrimp and wings. We will be back many times going forward so we can try everything on the menu!! (P.S. Came in Sunday for lunch and the place was pretty empty. Took 45 minutes after ordering to get food and it was mediocre at best. My recent experience at The Great Catch left much to be desired. The restaurant's ambiance was decent, and the potential for a great dining experience was there, but unfortunately, it fell short! First and foremost, the service was disappointing. The staff seemed indifferent and inattentive, making us feel like an afterthought rather than valued customers. We had to wait quite a while just to be acknowledged, and it was a struggle to get their attention. When a waitress finally came over and we asked about whole belly clams she said they no longer have them on the menu... So disappointing since this is why we went. Has a very 80's JAWS Local bar kinda vibe. The hosting is friendly as well as waitress , the lunch menu was explained. 11-2pm lunch I decided to get the blackened Basa with coleslaw and a cup of New England clam chowder , for an extra $4.99 .. right away they bring the SAUCES YUMMY .. Tarter , hot sauce, BBQ The food came pretty quick in a plastic container old school .. delicious nice pics the coleslaw is one of the best I've had around here.
