We've been to The Great Catch a few times, and honestly, it can be hit or miss depending on who your server is. We've had the best luck sitting at the high-top tables by the bar, especially when David is our server. The lobster bisque is the star of the show and is definitely worth trying. I usually go for the lobster rolls. They aren't the absolute best I've ever had, but they're pretty close--and with limited options in the area, they're a solid choice. The Atlantic Haddock Dinner is also very good. One thing I would recommend staying away from is the vegetables. They don't taste fresh and seem to be canned, which is disappointing. They also have a few weekly and weekend specials that are worth checking out. Overall, I do recommend The Great Catch, especially if you're looking for a change from the usual chain restaurants. Just choose your seating and, if you can, ask for David! read more

We were highly recommended this place since everyone knows we love the great catch in Zeph. The service here is super friendly, the drink specials are a great option however we went two weeks ago and the onion rings were frozen but their menu said fresh?! I was confused. I took this place off our list. We attempted to go back again yesterday because my uncle wanted a lobster roll and wanted to spend time with the family. He ordered the lobster roll that was $50 then he was charged extra for side dishes that the menu already said came with them. I questioned the server and they said they asked whoever was in charge and they told her he said it was known as premium sides. These are basic sides and their menu no where listed premium sides as an option. I understand a soup maybe more but he ordered sweet potato fries and a potato, the soup was a third choice for this roll. $54 for a foot long lobster roll is insane and then to be charged for 6-8 fries and a small potato as premium sides. Please stop changing the menu. My husband wanted to ask for a manager to complain but we just left. We will go back to Zeph where nothing has changed. The service and the drink specials are why we came back here for the second time. read more

It sits there in a strip mall in Lutz-right next to an Aldi. But once you get inside, you feel like you're a world away, in a sea shanty in New England. So many nautical nods in the decor-rustic coastal-in sort of an 80s/90s way (love). You can almost taste salt in the air-you expect the Gorton's fisherman to walk in. Yes, I could settle in here for a while. And I did. There are chalkboard drink choices on the walls-and a large menu. Happy hour and daily specials add to the options. I asked my friendly and helpful server to help me choose. She was spot on. The onion rings basket was a thing of true beauty. That batter is incredible-so light, so melts-in-mouth good. I'd go back for them alone. (and to try the hush puppies and fried green tomatoes) But then came the main event: a gorgeous piece of fried haddock that hung wayyyy off the bun on both sides-and loads of tasty fries. I swapped out coleslaw for green beans. What a feast! This is a lot of food! And every bit of it was really tasty. The haddock was huge-and so well cooked. It was tender-flaky-with another light batter, that complimented the fish perfectly. I ditched the bun and ate it with a knife and fork. It was just yummy. The fries had a good crunch to them and the bowl of green beans was deep. This is a massive value for money! Oh! And the margarita was good, too! A little tangy-I like that! (There's a full bar area, if you care to belly up) My sweet server was easy to talk to and super efficient. She knows the menu inside and out-and reads her customers well and early. The restaurant was cozy and comfy-it's a casual spot, but well tended and very clean. You really do forget that the busy world is right outside the door. There's tons of parking, but beware on super rainy days-there are low spots in that lot. The water came up fast while I was there and another server warned us to check our vehicles and move them, if needed. I decided to make a dash for it-so didn't get all the pics I wanted-but that's just another reason (along with the scrod and the mahi taco, etc etc) to go back. The Great Catch is a great choice. You can trust the Gorton's fisherman! read more

We tried The Great Catch Restaurant for the first time, and it was such a pleasant surprise! It's located in a strip mall and definitely has a bit of a "hole-in-the-wall" feel, but don't let that fool you--this place is spotless. I was genuinely impressed to see a staff member deep-cleaning tables between guests. I have a gluten allergy, and the staff were great about helping me find a safe option. I ordered the jumbo mahi taco with no tortilla as a modification to avoid gluten. There was a $.99 upcharge to substitute the side to avoid gluten which felt a bit silly, but the meal was delicious and well worth it. My husband ordered the shrimp basket, and it was excellent--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Overall, great service, extremely clean, and really tasty food. A hidden gem we're glad we found! read more

The fried shrimp were fantastic. Light and crispy and cooked in fresh oil so the breading didn't overwhelm the shrimp. My wife had the lobster bisque and crab cakes. The flavor of both the lobster and the crab came through. Prices were great for 2026. Or waitress Tiffany was courteous and very attentive. I could not ask for more from a Lutz neighborhood clean family restaurant. And the big screen tv's are a bonus! read more

2nd time tonight was awful. I am so sick of these restaurants doing good first time and then from then on out it sucks. Porsches are so small. You don't get the lobster tail that you ordered and paid for lobster bisque taste like rotting fish. It was awful and I am so disgusted that I told people to go eat here. they need to look in to their lobster bisque. It taste like dead fish soup. It is the most nasty lobster bisque. I have ever tasted in 61 years. I did not get any lobster tail that I ordered and paid for. I don't think I will be back for food here. tonight, unloading the bags and looking at our food turned me off so bad. I am so angry for spending $150 on this little bit of crap food. I hope this restaurant gets everything it deserves. read more

What a hole in the wall place in Lutz. We got the Fisherman's platter which was a great deal with fried haddock, Ipswich clam strips, giant sea scallops, shrimp, fries AND onion rings. $30! Plenty of food for 2 people Their lobster rolls are popular too. I saw alot of families dining and seemed like a local spot. They have daily specials including all you can eat haddock on Sundays. Saw an Instagram post about this place so decided to check it out. The restaurant is located inside of Avay strip mall. The website indicated that reservations were recommended so I made a reservation online. When we arrived, there was no need to utilize the call ahead that was done because seating was available immediately. The restaurant is spacious and clean. One note on the bathroom the soap dispenser was broken and the floor was a bit sticky. Our waitress was friendly and professional. We placed our order for drinks, appetizers, and entrées at the same time. That was probably a bad decision because our food was not timed appropriately by the kitchen. We received our appetizers and within 2 minutes we received our entrees. This caused us to rush through our meal to try to eat it while it was still hot. However, my baked potato was just warm. Also, the lobster bisque was sent back because it was too salty. That was taken off of our bill. The green beans and seafood casserole were under salted, but that is better than being too salty. The haddock was good. Overall, I would say this was mediocre. Not worth the hour drive for me. read more

Incredibly expensive for a dive bar - horrible singers. No Happy Hour - oh wait... drinks are a comical .50 cents off during happy hour. Military discount? yes on your individual meal only. Bummer I like dive bars but service is poor and slow * unless perhaps you are a regular. I tried.. I did as the food which is super slow to come out - is pretty good especially for a dive bar. Singers start at 4-4:30pm perhaps tone deaf the locals/regulars eat it up - I won't be back nor would I suggest the place - unfortunately. read more

We had a wonderful experience here! We walked in and were seated immediately with no wait, which was a great start to the evening. To begin, we ordered the fried green tomatoes and fried gator, and both were absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. For my meal, I ordered the fried shrimp dinner--wow! It came with a huge portion of shrimp, and the batter was perfectly seasoned and crispy. My son ordered a burger, my husband had the grilled grouper, and my other son got the lobster mac & cheese. My husband said the grouper was very fresh, and the lobster mac & cheese had large chunks of lobster and was another very generous portion. The service was excellent--our waiter was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, the food was fresh, the portions were large, and the service was great. We will definitely be back! read more

It's sad when a great restaurant becomes an average to poor one. I gave 3 stars for the Clam Chowder. It was creamy, flavorful with nice size calms. We were a table of 3, each ordered the Haddock with baked potato dinner. Haddock was nicely fried but small portions for dinner plate. The baked potatoes were cold and tasted reheated, perhaps from yesterday. The restaurant temperature was so cold that the food got cold very fast. The temperature was uncalled for, no reason to freeze the customers. I could hear other customers complaining about temperature and nothing was done. Service was very good, server was very pleasant and attentive. Sad to say we won't be back soon or never. What once was a favorite restaurant has fallen off our go to list. Food was better in their prior location. We gave the new location 3 tries and out. read more

This place was a great surprise. Located in a strip mall without a marquee sign. Look at the windows to find it. Inside is a great decor and really clean. Our server was really great and funny. This is authentic Florida seafood. The service was great. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. I highly recommend the Great Catch.

Have been here many times and loved the ayce special fish shrimp and wings. I thought it had haddock on the selection of fish now i see basa . To me I would return if the fish was haddock not basa. As this is a lower quality fish hope you go back to haddock. Just my opinion. read more

I wasn't even sure if I was going to write this review, but I feel like It needs to be shared. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now and i was finally able to last night. When I came in i waited just a couple of mins for the waitress to come back up to the front. She seated me right away. Not too long after I was seated my male waiter came over and asked what he could get me to drink. I just wanted a water and he walked away so quickly I had to almost pause him so i could put in my order of calamari. I was a little shocked because it was my first time there and in most cases the waiter will ask you have you been there before, before telling you a little about the menu and I didn't receive any of that during my experience. There was several times where i would go a long time without seeing him. The second time he came around he asked me if I wanted to order food. Mind you I hadn't even received my calamari yet. I politely declined and told him I wanted to wait until after i received my app. By now I was starting to feel some type of way and ready to leave because it seemed as if I was being rushed or he didn't want to service me. But since I was already there i went ahead and ordered my lobster roll. Soon as I finished I immediately asked for my check because I didn't want to spend another min in there. Some of my other observations I noticed is that the floors were filthy, looks like they only clean the table tops and not underneath when they turn tables because there was all kinds of leftover food, straw wrappers on the floor and not to mention how sticky it was. And my last observation was that they sat myself and 2 other black families all in a row, im not sure if this was coincidence or because of anything else, but it kind of made me raise my eyebrow while also observing who i think was the manager circle around to certain tables to check in on their experience and not all the tables. All in all I'm not sure if I would come here again just on the customer service alone but the food was good so if you like seafood you should go for that. read more

My husband saw an ad on FB for, The Great Catch by Taste of Boston, and decided to take us there for lunch. I was a bit apprehensive when I saw the place. A smallish entrance in a not to nice looking strip center. ( never judge a book by its cover. Lesson learned) The atmosphere was nautical themed. Lights down a bit made it very cozy. Several large screen TV's were playing different channels. Everything looked clean, a bit old fashioned, but very nice. We were seated by a very nice, cheerful waitress named Alayna. The menu's have seen better days but were easily read. Alayna took our drink request and hurried away. People began arriving, filling booths and tables. I only saw Alayna taking care of the guests. She was very quick attending everyone, yet maintained her cheerful attitude. She returned with our drinks, took our orders and headed away. I will admit, I was taken aback with the prices. Yes, they were a bit high for lunch but we were even happier when our huge pile of food arrived. I ordered clam strips. They were very lightly covered in a thin batter that didn't disguise the flavor of the clam strips. The meal came with a hefty amount of fries, also lightly coated in a tasty dusting of flavoring. The meal came with coleslaw too. My husband ordered a hamburger...a monster of a burger! A pound of meat, with lettuce, tomatoes and other additions. He couldn't even fit his mouth over it! We also ordered crab bites which were ok. We ordered French onion soup too. The soup was fantastic! None of that greasy stuff or fake tasting stuff used at other places. The ice tea also tasted like it was old fashioned made with tea and real sugar. We were very happy with our entire meal. The Great Catch by Taste of Boston is a most definite try. We will go back. Yes, the price was high, $70.00 for lunch but we had enough for our dinner tonight. I highly recommend The Great Catch by Taste of Boston. read more

We went to the Great Catch on a regular basis when they were at their old location and always had great food and service. we went to their new location tonight. I ordered grilled basa with a baked potato and cup of lobster bisque. the lobster bisque was thick and tasted weird not at all like I've ever tasted and not a piece of lobster in sight. my grilled basa was swimming in grease and was like a salt lick, same for my husband and my baked potato was raw. First off, I was really looking forward to visiting your restaurant. Heard good things from family members. However was there for my grandson's birthday on Saturday, Aug 8th. I opted out for the lobster meet scampi over linguine with garlic bread. First I had to ask for my garlic bread it was brought to me one slice of regular bread toasted. Disappointing. Secondly I had three pieces of lobster in my meal, my pasta was not hot and it was clumpy. I told our waitress I knew it was not her fault however I did expect something to be done about it I gave her back my my plate and she said she would tell the kitchen. Course nothing was said and nothing was done about my meal. I received my bill of $45.17 of which was just ridiculous. I will not by any means suggest anyone going to this restaurant. Apparently the manager whoever was on really doesn't care about their service so again you have a zero score in my opinion. read more

We had been to this restaurant a couple of other times when they were in their old location down the road on our trips to Lutz. It was always good and they were always busy. Our first clue should have been that they were not busy on a weekend during the dinner hour. The staff was friendly and very efficient. The food was okay, nothing special. Expensive for the food that you get. We had the seafood casserole, the shrimp basket that was the "special", and the crabcake bites. No drinks. Our dinner came to $80. The shrimp basket, we could have gotten at Captain D's for a 1/3 of the price and it would have been just as good. The seafood casserole was good, but not worth $29! It was hard to find any crab in the crab bites. Mostly just stuffing. We will not be back. read more

I have been a regular patron of the Great Catch for many years and several relocation. Until it recently moved to its current location it was always excellent. Being from New England, we were truly looking forward to this! We were met with kindness and cared for equally throughout our visit. Prices were market prices, as expected. I want everyone to try this place because my pallet is super particular when it comes to clam chowder and whole belly clams. Chowder was not as homemade as I'd like it to taste though it was not bad at all. The best part was the onion rings! If you like them thin cut with flakey batter, this is your next stop!!! They did not disappoint. Baked scrod was satisfactory (not everyone is a scrod fan). Keep making these dishes and serving with a smile! read more

The positives, the mahi mahi (blackened) was PHENOMENAL! Amazing fish, some of the best I've ever had! Great portion size too. I was very hungry after riding dirt bikes with a friend all morning and I couldn't even finish the mahi portion. I would 1,000% come back for the mahi mahi. SOOOO GOOD!!!! The negatives, the sides were terrible. I got a cup of lobster bisque as one of my sides and it had no lobster meat in it at all. I was also ripped off, I was charged a full $6.99 for the cup of bisque but it was missing the garlic bread. ($3.00 for the side cost itself plus a $3.99 upcharge. I pointed this out to the waitress too) Baked potatoe was very forgettable and bland too, tasted like a microwaved potato. I asked for the garlic bread and explained the issue to the waitress and she didn't seem to care so I took the cost difference off her tip and wrote a note on the check. read more

This seafood restaurant, located in a strip mall, was as expected. The grilled grouper was done just right and a generous portion. The side in this Caesar salad, though, was a disappointment because it was like bagged lettuce with bottled Caesar dressing on top. The side order of onion rings was very generous, but nothing special. Most of the seafood menu items were fried and the menu was quite extensive. All in all I thought it was a little pricey, but satisfactory. Service was great, the server was very polite and attentive. The Great Catch - Buffalo chicken sandwich - Seafood Near Me - Lutz, Florida

We ordered hush puppies as an appetizer, waited over 20 minutes because the cook burnt the first ones. The clams were dry, onion rings were just straight up bad. They lacked any flavor that an onion would have. My fish resembled a cold chicken tender and the texture was rubbery and dry. We were the only person there besides one other table & the host/waitress/manager didn't check on us for over 25 minutes after our food arrived. The place looked like a decent restaurant but turned out to be no better than long John silvers. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Edit: 20 minutes later & we at McDonald's throwing up. This place is GROSS. Cute place in a strip plaza. The food was very good. Service was also spot on. Atmosphere was about what you'd expect, clean & nothing fancy. From what we could tell, the seafood was very fresh & hand breaded. That was a great surprise since so many of the times, clam strips are the frozen kind that are dumped out of the freezer and into the fryer. These clam strips had a very nice crispy batter-like breading & were delicious. The same breading was on the onion rings.... Light and crispy. The fries were also done perfectly; soft inside & crispy outside. The Buffalo shrimp were very tasty as well. The only thing that I wasn't crazy about was the fact that the plastic containers containing the tartar & cocktail sauces were left on the tables at room temperature. Mayonnaise at room temp for any length of time is a big no-no, so even though I wanted it on my clam strips, I decided against it. This is probably something they should address. read more
