    Complimentary nuts
    Andrew H.

I have been trying to go here for what seems like forever. I mean, not forever, but at least since they opened. Why? It's a rare, highly-regarded restaurant in Wasilla. And when it first opened, I was doing a lot of stuff in the Denali/Healy area. I'd be driving back to Anchorage Sunday, and I'd be hangry, and I couldn't find anything decent to eat, so I'd just have to "hold it" until I got to Anchorage. (often as everywhere was closing...) Fast-forward to now: I've been working in Wasilla all week (I don't want to talk about it) and I finally got an opportunity to give it a shot! I was alone and sat at the bar. The bartender was really friendly and wasted no time explaining the specials to me. (there needs to be a word for the phenomenon of ordering your food, then seeing a server...even worse if they are YOUR server...explaining the specials to another table...specials that would've changed what you ordered! THE HORROR.) She also placed some seasoned nuts for me to snack on, these things were INCREDIBLE. They had a nice sweet/salty/savory mix of seasonings on them, I'm literally salivating thinking of them right now. I ordered a sparkling Rose from NZ for $12. Which is actually pretty good for wine in Alaska. I also ordered the lamb which was spendy ($38), but about what you would expect to pay up here in the 49th. While I was waiting...some yoga moms came up to the bar and started making small talk with each other. It was surreal. Why? Because the conversations they were having were so stereotypical...they felt like a bad SNL sketch! One that you would watch and say "that's ridiculous, yoga ladies aren't REALLY like that!". The lamb eventually came out, and it was perfectly cooked. A nice medium-rare. (they didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked, which is maybe how it should be) A true medium rare. Not an Alaska medium rare...that's usually grey in the center...there was a nice pink...to match my wine? My only real complaint is that the portioning was quite small. I know, I know, fancy places like this aren't supposed to have big portions. I'm grading it against other "fine dining" places down in Anchorage. Those spots definitely have bigger portions than here. I think there were THREE asparagus spears? THREE? There were also only three lamb chops. Still, if I lived in Wasilla (Set forbid!), I'd come here often. This is where all the non-Trumpy people in town hang out. (all 17 of them)

App of the year 2023 for me and now again for 2024! Seared Ahi

Always a wonderful experience at the grape tap! Spectacular services, relaxed vibe. Great place for a date or just dropping in for dinner. And I will say the seared ahi is the best appetizer in Alaska right now!

We went here for our anniversary last night and had a great experience. Plenty of parking out front across the street. Repurposed old home that was cute and intimate. Everything was very clean and well kept. We skipped hors d'oeuvre's and my wife had a small beet salad which she loved. For the main course we both had the roasted duck with vegetables and brown rice. It was amazing. Highly recommend. Service was prompt, polite and informed. We shared a berry cobbler desert and called it a night. Delicious. Great little restaurant in Wasilla.

The cutest upscale restaurant in Wasilla. It's very intimate setting was perfect for our 22nd anniversary. Our waitress was prompt and kind, despite being busy. She never made us feel rushed. We started with drinks I had a lavender infused champagne, so good. Like I mentioned our waitress was awesome. She was even so sweet to make me a half salad of the beet salad. It was very good and I appreciate her for doing that. New favorite salad. My husband and I both ordered the roasted duck entree for dinner. It was so good. And had the berry cobbler for dessert. Everything was outstanding. Highly recommend.

First off....please do not forget about this place existing like I have numerous of times! Second...Don't be deceived by the outside of this place! It's a whole new world when you go inside..almost life changing. Third...yes the reviews do not lie. The food is that good! Honestly, I went in concerned about basically "getting your bang for your buck". Sure the food has rave reviews, pictures look amazing, prices are wowza..so automatically I'm thinking..."food portions are tiny". Simply not the case. I wouldn't say it's generous like other places but it's perfect. Not small..and not gluttony huge. Perfecto! Yes! The complimentary nuts on the table is in fact tasty. It's also the beginning of your food journey here because some of the appetizers has the same sense of spice to it. Let's start with the appetizers: the scallops! Yum! Yum! Yum! It's super good..the creamy sauce that goes with it, I freakin can't even! So good! The scallops are the cute ones though, so don't expect the mama sized scallops. Also, yeah..I ordered the "not so cheap dates"...and it was super good. I've been on this whole new figs/dates with some savory flava and yummy cheese I can't even pronounce but taste awesome! Definitely must get apps. Now for din din: Yep! Me and Lamb! I love me my lamb! It was totally worth it too! I love how they took the classic approach on the lamb w/ mint jelly (though it's a mint sauce) ( jelly is too out dated) thank you for bringing it back with style. (Heart emoji). I appreciated every bite and the mashed potatoes were seasoned perfectly along with the roasted super cute veggies. Love love love. My husband ordered the New York. It was beautiful..he also was silent through the entire meal..so it was all that and then some. Super full and overly satisfied diners that's for sure. Before I end this lovely evening review..our waitress was amazing. I forgot her name but her last name was "Turkay". She's was ridiculously amazing. So kudos and shout out to her always..also the infused champagnes are worth it! Our fave: Lavender Kiss! Mmmmm. Thanks for making our anniversary dinner worth while. We will be back. P.S: please call before hand and book a reservation for dinner, seating is very limited.

Amazing. This place belongs in a unique category. I felt like a part of a the family. The Grape Tap family. When I mentioned to my server/bartender that I hadn't been before, she took me on a tour of the whole place (hence all the pics). There are four main sections here: 1. The main area. It's located when you come in and has a variety of small tables for small groups. 2. The bar area. This is to the right of the front door. It's small and intimate with about four bar chairs and a little couch area for lounging. 3. The downstairs "cellar." This is easily the most intimate component of the restaurant with a table in a room with all the wine bottles and a special booth that everyone deserves. 4. The outside seating area. Available seasonly, this is a wide open area of flowers, trees, and plants they actually use in their recipes! I sat by myself at the bar and went for the full course meal. I tried a flight of wines so I could sample a few before diving in. So glad I did. All the wines were delicious, but their "expensive" pour wasn't my favorite. Why assume the 18 dollar glass of wine is better than the 10? From there I moved onto the salad. It was a mixed green salad with blueberries and nuts and holy delicious! I believe the dressing was home made. The final portion was a perfectly cooked, thick, New York Strip with a pimento cheese spread on top with a potato casserole and broccoli. A heavenly meal. I was going to take the extras home, but there were none. It all just disappeared. I do not give five stars lightly, but this experience was worth 6 stars. I can't wait to take my wife here! The servers are in charge of curating the wine collection so they are skilled and knowledgeable about the wine. I was very impressed with their explanations.

A delicious drink they should make you some like this.

Incredible food! The owner was our server, and did an incredible job! Restaurant was busy, but kept up for a Friday night. Try the "Not so cheap Dates" they are well worth it! I had the Caprese Chicken Pasta, was incredible. Also, the table nuts are addicting. For dessert we had the strawberry rhubarb crisp and OMG. CHECK OUT THE GRATTO AND THE BAR CEILING!

My husband & I went here based off several friends' suggestions. I just didn't think it quite lived up to the hype THE PROS: AMAZING NUTS ON EVERY TABLE, super cute aesthetic/decor, great reputation & unique menu options ( I could literally eat the nuts by the pound, so my expectations were set high for flavor after that ) the waitress was also very kind & attentive. + I ordered the mudslide pie & it was DELICIOUS THE CONS: We tried calling to make a reservation and got a voicemail - hung up not realizing we were meant to leave a message for a table. (Our fault, I understand). SO, we showed up 20 mins after open with NO available seating besides a tiny, wobbly table, smushed into a corner, & right in front of the door. This really ruined the atmosphere as a cold draft was constantly coming in for those waiting in the entry for a table to open. I don't know why anyone would ever put a table there. We ordered based off the waitresses' recommendations & got a steak flat bread that was the special, and the prawn nachos I had heard so much about. Both came out only slightly warm & underwhelming with flavor. The steak and shrimp were both bland. Especially for the price, I could have skipped both. While I did love the flavor of the pie, it came out ROCK SOLID. CONCLUSION: I would still go again, but this time with a reservation & better menu choices!

    Orange creamsicle crème brûlée

Very good food and great vibe. Downstairs has the best vibe but a bit loud as it echos, while upstairs has a quaint rustic charm of an historical house. While expensive, the food is totally worth it. Highly recommend. Our server was also very nice and helpful.

    Filet Mignon Sliders, pretty good
    Trudy B.

Yes....just YES. I loved the old house feel, much like Marx Bros. in Anchorage. It started with lovely wine options. Then we picked some tasty appetizers. We had the ahi, the artichoke dip, and the bacon wrapped dates. The ahi comes with a crunchy rice side that is a perfect match. The bacon wrapped dates were very good. The artichoke dip was meh...comes with pita bread and it just lacked flavor and depth. Next up was dinner. I had the sliders and they were pretty good, not as flavorful as I anticipated. The filet was outstanding and cooked to perfection. This is my new favorite place to splurge and have a special date night.

Filet dinner special. To die for!

I would say my steak would have given Whiskey and Ramen a run for their money. A true medium rare and juicy. Nearly tender enough to cut with a fork. The Scallops. I don't usually care for scallops but I will say there was a perfect sear and they were not over cooked. Sweet Potato Gnocchi was really good and the Gorgonzola Sauce was balanced flavorful and I will be trying to replicate it soon. My son enjoyed a flank steak, delicious, a good sear and just enough lime to enhance the experience. We skipped the desserts I have to address the prices which are ridiculously low. I do think some of the items were on the pricier side for what you are receiving as well as considering it's a student run lab, and not an operating restaurant. Although the restaurant is in more of a cafeteria setting thru do a very nice job of making it feel more high end with their table settings & fresh florals. The students are also dressed very professionally, and the menu is a great selection of higher end items. My favorite part of the meal were the desserts (Lady Palmer & Black cherry chocolate cake). They were exemplary quality, and I feel were restaurant ready. For our entrees I ordered the duck breast, and black cod. I really enjoyed the basil & pea puree that came with the cod, and for the duck breast I thought it was seasoned well though I would've preferred it a little less well done. For appetizers I ordered prawn fritters & a bread plate. I really enjoyed the different components of the bread plate; my favorite being the whipped honey feta. The fritters were tasty, but I wish they had more prawn pieces in them. This restaurant is a learning experience for the students so you should not go into this meal expecting 5 star perfection, but it's a great way to get involved in helping to educate the culinary students in a real life setting. The meal includes comment cards that they ask you fill out, which will really help the students improve. Lucy's was a very fun & unique experience, and I hope to be able to get a reservation again next year!

As yet, I have still not sat on one of the counter stools, but they are there! Just like on tv! And I, who has lived here now for almost 14 years feel such pride in our beautiful shiny diner, which in my humble opinion, is better than any I saw on tv, because it's metal. I challenge any movie maker (pfft, like that gonna happen) who might be planning a movie based in Alaska, and needing a 50's style diner, to find anything so beautifully retro, even in the Lower 48, and probably needing very little styling to make it meet their vintage needs. It has booths, it has counter stools, it has a lovely floor, great art on the walls. Anyway, I digress. We've been coming here for years, ever since it was still called City Diner. They have a good, large, wide ranging menu, covering breakfasts lunches and dinners. I've never had anything bad here. Service is great, and you're almost always seated immediately. It's always busy, but never seems chaotic if you catch my drift. I love that if you order a soda, they bring out the soda, as well as a jug full of said soda, so you can have top ups. Not that I drink loads of soda, I just think it's a nice touch. Today I got a BLT, husband got the Lika chicken wrap, I got fries with mine, and he got tots. We both got coffee, in a good old fashioned diner mug. They are always THAT style of mug, you know the one I mean, kinda got a slim waist, unlike myself. Food came out unbelievably quickly, I was gonna give 4 stars, but I just changed it to 5, cos you know what? Yeah, it's not fine dining, or an amazing dining room, linen tablecloths etc, but it is exceptional for what it is. So it's a 5 star diner. My BLT. Can I just say, this is the best BLT I've had in quite a while, and I get them a lot. Bacon was plentiful and the exact right crispiness, lettuce was fresh, not limp, tomato sliced decently thickly, and I'd normally pick it out, as I find it bland, and doesn't really enhance the sandwich for me, but I ate every bit of it. That bacon man, it was so good. So flavorful. The fries too, crisp and hot. He got that chicken wrap based on my recommendation, as I'd had it on my previous visit. He said it was moist and juicy, and he ate it all. The coffee's very good too. I don't drink a lot of coffee, but our server came round offering refills which I didn't have, but not because it didn't taste good. The worst thing I can say about this place is, I find it difficult to choose what I want to eat, as they have some very desirable options. bathrooms are very clean, and echo the 50's diner style, with the same flooring as throughout the dining room, and black and white tiling on the walls. Often some places dining rooms might be clean, but then the bathrooms are not kept clean - almost an afterthought. I'll continue to frequent Sami's diner, it's one of my go-to lunch spots.

There is still no jam on the table, but service is much better regarding the coffee refills. The menu prices are affordable, as they should be at a diner. Service was snappy. The real reason to come here though: it doesn't usually have a line/wait time, even on the weekend.
