Our daughter had spent part of her growing-up years here in Frankfort, where my husband and I have lived for 50+ years. She enjoys introducing her Colorado daughter to the beautifully forested, living beauty of Kentucky's natural world. Before departing the dock, we enjoyed browsing in the gift shop, with a great assortment of caps, tee shirts, memorabilia, and some Ale8! Upon boarding the boat, the crew offered a bourbon service that would rival most any local selection. We all enjoyed lovely bourbon refreshments! Together with visitors from Tennessee and other nearby states, we learned some Kentucky River geography and history, along with equine, bourbon, and horse racing history. The captain was skillful and knowledgeable, as she cruised the riverboat on the sunny Sunday afternoon. The tour guide was a true font of history with amusing anecdotes of his personal career in the bourbon industry and his overall knowledge of the Commonwealth. Treat yourself, your family and your friends to an altogether enjoyable, educational, and Kentucky-based adventure-- spend some time on the riverboat! You'll be glad you did! Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

There are lockers available on site to store valuables. It costs $1 for each instance and you need cash. There is a machine to turn $1 and $5 into quarters. We did the Mega Quest first, which was shockingly a huge workout. The employees were cheerful, helpful and explained everything clearly. We worked up a crazy sweat and rested in time for our Mega Ziplines tour. We got Keegyn and Bethany, who were absolutely amazing. We were in GREAT hands! I'm actually terrified of heights but I was very proud of myself for getting through each zip line and keeping my eyes open! The Mega Ziplines course does have options for people to leave if they are too scared/anxious, but there IS a point of no return eventually. This was one hell of a way to spend a day out in some caves. Highly recommend.

Upon reaching the door we found it to be locked, but when we looked in the window we saw the owner Marti Lombardo working at her desk. We made eye contact with one another and she smiled. The first sign read "Open Saturdays 10am - 2pm" with another sign below that reading "Open Saturdays for Appointment Only". We figured that we would have to make an appointment for another time so we just decided to look at the few books that they had set up on their outdoor shelves. At this time we turned to see Marti Lombardo jump out of her chair and crawl under her desk in an attempt to hide from us. She was looking around the corner of her desk from the floor to see if we had walked away and was grabbing things from her desktop while still hiding underneath. We never knocked on the door or asked for any service. We were simply looking at the books they had to offer outside, but once Marti saw us, she decided to hide under her desk in an effort not to have any interaction with us for an unknown reason. I feel like this is VERY unprofessional and could have been handled in a completely different manner. Because of this experience we will NEVER be booking anything through Going Places Travel and we will definitely not be recommending this business to anyone.
