It has been a completely different experience at Kindercare. The teachers and administrators are sweet and caring. The rooms are kept clean, even the changing table have paper sheets like at the doctors office so they can make sure they are clean for each kid. They are constantly practicing hand washing. I know it is normal for kids to get sick some when they first start going to daycare and my daughter has occasionally been sick but it is less frequent than it was before. And there have been times other kids in the class have been diagnosed with the flu but my child and the others did not get it so to me that shows they are doing an excellent job at cleaning and preventing the spread. The teachers are in the class room constantly supervising the kids so my daughter has had less injuries and accidents than she had at the previous daycare as well. They have been working on potty training with her now and they go out of their way to work together with us. I was worried when she first started potty training about sending her to school in panties because I didn't want to make more work for them if she had accidents and they reassured me that they wanted to help and were glad to do whatever it takes to get her potty trained. They feed the kids healthy meals and snacks, not the typical school food, they eat yogurt and fruit and..something I didn't even know my daughter liked..hummus and pita. I feel it's much better than just having playtime for most of the day. The school itself is a little worn around the edges (this is definitely not a new facility by any stretch), but well maintained. The office does have have a fingerprint scanner for check in/out, but otherwise not much else in the way of technology such as cameras, electronic doors, or online payment. But these minor inconveniences are far outweighed by the staff and the way the kid has developed this past year.

Before I enrolled him here I was…read morevery transparent about my son's struggles (I had tried one school before this one that turned out to be a lot better than this one) and explained to them that we were working on getting him acclimated to a school environment since he has only been in school for about 6 months of his life, 4 prior to starting here. Most mornings when I dropped him off I stayed with him for about 30 minutes until the teacher turned on the clean up song before morning snack. I did this because I realized early on the teachers in his classroom were not going to work with him to get him use to the process of his new classroom (he would be expected to know what to do). Me staying had a positive impact on the outcome of his day. My son would need to get to a place where he felt comfortable and welcomed in order to be the best 4 year old he knows how to be. I guess this is a lot to ask of schools these days because they have "23 kids" in a classroom and don't have time to help kids individually. This is detrimental if you really think about it. There has to be an introductory process for kids that are not conformists and more anxious around new settings. He was only at this school for about 2 months. He never really got a fair chance. They were calling me about his behavior within the first week and that's when I knew I made a mistake and it wouldn't work. Calling me less than a week after a kid starts a new school meant in the long run they won't be bothered (hence the reason I started staying and working with him at the school) with his shortcomings. Oh look, I was right! I spoke to Ms Clark on Friday letting her know he was on a waiting list for a therapist to come work with him at the school and by Tuesday (he didn't go to school on Monday) I was called to pick him up for the reason that he was running around the classroom and not wanting to come inside from the playground. The lady at the front desk said my kid squeezed her hand (this is called agression) and he was expelled per the owners request apparently because they couldn't get him under control. I wonder how they got him to the front office to sit? This comes a day after he started his in home behavioral therapy that was designed to help him learn how to interact with others when situations arise in a positive way. I needed my son to learn the patience and communication that's expected of him from the preschool system. Seriously parents how do you do it? How do you get your kids to meet the preschool standards these days? I've tried everything! A lot of kids haven't learned it but they get by I guess. My son is a normal fun loving kid at home. I'm absolutely ok with him as a 4 year old but I do agree he needs help learning transitions and positive communication in a school setting but if I can't depend on a school to work with me on that then what? After noticing the adults running and working at preschools these days don't have patience with kids anymore and not wanting my son to be treated like an outcast I made every attempt that I could to address his behavior concerns at school. As I told the director, I was trying and they had to be blind not to see that. The school on the other hand made little attempt to assist my son with his transition and he learned nothing while there. Of all the mornings I stayed with him he was called ONCE to small center time with the teacher. I really hate to say this but it felt like she didn't want to be bothered with him and if I felt that way then my son was probably no different. My son is his best self when he feels loved. He's needy in that department. He likes hugs and needs to feel loved to do well. Never let people make you feel like you don't know your kids both positive and negative. I'm aware and I needed this school to be a school. ALL stages of development are important. My son has only been in this world for 4 years and i'm no longer burdening him with the crazy expectations placed on young kids (be good but I don't have time to teach you. Just know how & fast). I'm going to skip the preschool system and work with him in other ways as I was doing before I enrolled him here. Thank God he's a sponge and quick learner. He really loves to learn. He will get to where he needs to be with no help from this institution. As someone who has worked at an exceptional Montessori school in a different state I will NEVER understand preschools who give up on 4 year olds. I was made to feel like my kid was so abnormal when I know he's not because there were kids in his class just like him plus my years of working with kids I knew better. I knew some kids are just more difficult than others and that doesn't make them awful. I felt so bad I started to use terms like "maybe he's on the spectrum". Shame on me for that! This is my second child and I used to work for a local AEYC affiliate (they accredit child cares). I have been in more child care centers then I can count and I have seen high quality child cares as well as ones that were just awful. As a parent my oldest daughter was in 2 child care centers as an infant. I chose this location as it is right off the 408 and on my way to work. When I toured this facility I was met by Karin the director. She clear about her guidelines and rules which I found very helpful. While the infant room seemed small at first glance, it's really the perfect size. They do not use fabric swings and bouncy seats (they always got my eldest daughter sick when she was a baby so this made me happy.) The teachers use the floor and give the babies lots of tummy time. This may seem weird to new parents but it really is the better way according to NAEYC guidelines. The room is kept very clean. This center also provides food and formula. Diapers are also available for a small fee (totally worth it!). The two teachers Bella and Martha are wonderful. My child lights up when she sees them both. The one or two times I had concerns or questions I always felt listened to. My issues were always resolved very quickly. And the director ALWAYS followed up. When I had a concern about my daughter's flat head from her stay in the NICU (she was a preemie and started at school at 3 months at 8lbs), EVERYONE was accommodating. I even had Wanda the assistant director talk to me about it in passing, "I see she's really doing well on her tummy time!" I would say La Petite on Goldenrod and Lake Underhill is truly a hidden gem. The school lost my child's health records which stated requirements for his severe food allergies and now DCF has a suspension pending of the school because of the sexual abuse case and the missteps along the way. My sons teachers have been excellent but with the unknown certainty of the school it has given us no choice but to remove him and go elsewhere. The teachers are great but the administration and and the front office are horrible.
