It is a rustic, outdoorsy camp, no cell phones allowed here! Camp Mah-Kah-Wee is a Girl Scout camp. They offer programs throughout they year for girls and have overnight camps during the summer. I have been to Mah-Kah-Wee many times over the years with my daughters, and I really appreciate that we have a facility like this so close to home. The camp surrounds a lake so there are many water activities like canoeing and kayaking available during the summer. There is also a swimming pool. They offer all of the standard camp activities like archery and crafts and they also have an obstacle course. My kids love this place. During the summer the week-long camps are themed so you can find something to match your child's interests. As for the facilities, the best place to stay is in the cabins. They have air conditioning! In Florida you NEED air conditioning in the summer. I've also chaperoned overnights in the tents, which aren't so bad, and a building they call the Eco Center, which is a bit more like a enclosed porch... no AC there. Overall, it's a great place. I highly recommend it. The prices for overnight camp are very good and the kids have a great time.

One of them happened to be the mess fest that was going on this past weekend. So we decided to head out to Orlando and let me tell you it was so much fun!! They transformed one of their rooms into a fun place for the kids to get messy. You were catapulting scrunchie balls covered in paint onto a canvas sheet. There was another area where they were doing little bottle rockets with paint and Alka-Seltzer. That my kids absolutely LOVED. They also had scribble bots, a raffle painting for canvas paintings but that's not all because they had other stuff going on different floors. We got to make our own slime and we even got to go outside and watch them use liquid nitrogen to cause a bubbly explosion that the kids got to play afterwards. This was a 10 out of 10 experience.

Picture crossfit or HITT classes for kids. Not only do the classes boost physical skills, but they also conduct educational and confidence boosting exercises. Each class starts with kids introducing themselves to each other with coaches nearby to ensure they are speaking up/clearly, maintaining eye contact, and firm handshakes. They also sometimes work on public speaking where the kids answer a simple question in front of their teammates, which has really helped my shy son gain confidence. During transition course setups- the coaches keep the kids engaged with puzzles (I Spy, patterns, etc). It's a parents dream to watch your kid be completely engaged the entire session and not aimlessly wondering for time periods. They have 45 minute classes grouped by age taught by at least two coaches. For the smaller kids, the parents participate on the mats with the kids for the entire class. Expect a lot of running, jumping, rolling, and climbing. They create obstacles and challenges for the kids to do to keep it fun. Kidstrong does a good job of keeping the kids entertained through different themes each week. They also have a large tv that walks them through the entire session. We all know kids love screens ;) so it keeps them paying attention and the classes run timely. The membership is a bit pricey but it's a great workout for our kid and he has fun doing it. There are different events that they do throughout the year such as movie nights and parents night out. They also do birthday parties and it gives private access to the gym which is nice for those who want to have that exclusive party without the crowds. We are at the intermediate level (can parallel ski, control speed and turns, run moguls, etc.), and it seemed like the instructor may specialize in beginner instruction. It was a nice warm-up for our trip, and we each had a takeaway that made us feel like it wasn't a waste; however, I wouldn't spend that money again for the value received.
