Ms. Cassie has been such a great teacher for our son! We feel so lucky he's in her class.

Having been a Cub Scout/Webelo/Boy Scout when I was young - I can appreciate this venue for the opportunities it provides the scouting community. It's also used by a variety of other local community groups for their own events. I've been here a few times now over the years - a couple of visits to a Halloween event run by the Boy Scouts called "The Hauntings of Haymarket Hollow," (an outdoor Haunted Trail event for Halloween) which I believe has been discontinued for now. More recently I attended "Pumpkin Pandemonium" - run by the local Gainesville Ruritan Club. PP was a Fall/Halloween themed event to buy Pumpkins and other Autumn themed products, hear live music, have your kids participate in a variety of activities such as pony rides and hay rides, games, and more.

Yes, there are 3 cabins with about 25 beds in the same room, but there's a surprising number of more private rooms (6 rooms that fit 4 people each). Each of these cabins has its own screened porch with a few rocking chairs, which I definitely took advantage of. And if you're so lucky, there is a beautiful lodge that I would expect to find at a ski resort instead of a Boy Scout camp - finished wood walls and floors, 4 rooms with 1 double bed each, a full kitchen, and a living room with a full fireplace. Outside this beautiful lodge, there's a bonfire pit with a stone wall to sit on while enjoying the stars and roasting marshmallows. We were here for a wedding, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It brought back good memories of summer camp.

Most people know Adventure Links for their popular camp programs for children and teens. However, they also offer stellar corporate team building programs, which is how I got to know them. About five years ago, as the CEO of a growing company of 20 professionals, I was struggling with how to address some growing pains and spice up our upcoming quarterly retreat. A friend recommended Adventure Links, so I scheduled a meeting with Anna, the CEO. Anna came to my office and interviewed me to understand my business, our challenges, and what I hoped to accomplish. She asked many questions, listened, and took notes. The next week, we took our team of 20 to their retreat location. Anna and her team had put together an all-day agenda of activities that went way beyond simple ropes courses. What surprised and "sold" me on them was how she'd managed to incorporate our growing pains into her exercises in meaningful ways. Sure, we had fun and bonded, but more importantly most of us began to see certain everyday problems in meaningful new ways, with fresh solutions. To this day our team references those exercises like old Seinfeld episodes. After each exercise - some physically challenging and all mentally challenging - Anna would bring us together and help us draw correlations to some of our corporate issues. It helped that she has a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She and her team also knew when to push and put us on the spot to drive home a point. Six months later, we wanted to bring Adventure Links back for another quarterly retreat, but this time due to bad weather we had to do the exercises in our office. They totally pulled it off! The indoor exercises were unique and again gave us a fresh perspective on both issues and people. An example - during one intense exercise where we split into two teams, a junior staff person had a "eureka!" moment with a brilliant solution to a problem, and spontaneously took control of our team, which included several executives. I had no idea this young lady was so intellectually gifted and capable of leadership under pressure. How valuable is that information for an employer? My firm has engaged Adventure Links several times since then, all with success. When my children are old enough, I'll be sending them to the Adventure Links camps...I know they'll learn and have fun. Adventure Links rocks!

Years ago, our autistic son worked with a former instructor, Cameron, for a gymnastics-themed one-hour workout, and he also participated in the Summer Minds In Motion Camp. Unfortunately, they don't know how to work with special needs children. Our son's session would start with five minutes on the trampoline to warm up, followed by floor exercises. If he got distracted or became uncooperative--which was common at the time--he was put in "timeout" on a dangerously high box for his size or forced to walk on the thin high beams without any training. If he jumped or fell off, they would just restart a five-minute timer and put him right back on. It felt unsafe and unhelpful I am surprised Our son never broke any bones and we never filed injury lawsuits it was this terrible. The summer camp was equally disorganized. The schedule was inconsistent, and we even witnessed instructors leaving computers logged into personal Amazon accounts within the children's reach. After seeing all of this, we pulled our son out and cannot endorse this academy for anything they offer.

We were looking for a school in the area that was not only rich in their curriculum, but a school that was diverse in its culture and one that embraced children of all ethnicities. I noticed that during Black Histoy Month (2/2023), there were no initiatives highlighted in the February Monthly newsletter to recognize the contributions of the many African-Americans that have contributed to American History. I decided to email the staff with ideas in which Black History Month could be incorporated into the curriculum, considering that there were a number of African-American students enrolled at HCA. I received a phone call immediately from one of the Administrators (Mrs. Juliana) stating that this was an oversight and that they would be sure to highlight Black History Month. I had a follow-up conversation with the Curriculum Specialist (Mrs. Giovanna)...and to my surprise, she had incorporated many of the items that I highlighted in my email! Not to mention, how swiftly she acted upon this. I would like to extend my SINCEREST gratitude for all that HCA has done for Black History Month and everything that they are instilling in my children daily. I was thoroughly impressed with the various learning activities the students participated in throughout the month. They exceeded my expectations on highlighting African-American culture and the many great achievements of some of the well-known Black pioneers that have contributed to AMERICAN HISTORY. Efforts such as these make my husband and I confident that we have selected the right school for our children. We look forward to our children thriving in a school environment that promotes diversity and inclusion, as well as high educational standards. Job well done HCA!!
