It's actually quite a bit bigger inside than what it looks like from the sidewalk - more on that in a moment. As part of my research into buying my first guitar - I came in and talked with a very nice young man - I believe his name was Noah. He answered all of my questions and I was leaning toward buying an Epiphone acoustic guitar at the time. Noah also gave me a tour - there is a whole other level downstairs! There must have been some 20 private music lesson rooms, and then down this back hallway - a large room for jam sessions/open mic night on Friday nights. Based on the service I received from Noah - I like Contemporary Music Service. The place is bright, well laid out, clean, and energizing. I am sure I will be back to check out accessories and lessons once I get going with the guitar I did select.

My good friend and I went into this local music shop for a simple procedure: he wanted the nut and…read morebridge replaced on his acoustic with bone rather than the onboard plastic. This SHOULD have taken an hour or two tops, maybe a day if they were very busy. However, this store kept his guitar for over three weeks (after saying it would be a "couple days, tops"), and when he got it back, nearly nothing had been done. The bridge and nut remain the same, and the guitar's finish has fingerprints all over it. They then charged him $40 to get his guitar back, which basically amounted to a string change. I find this completely unacceptable, and I will never ever give them any business ever again. I had a similar operation done to my acoustic at Guitar Center, and it took less than two hours. I urge all of you to boycott this shop as they're incapable of following through on a very simple request, even after multiple calls over the course of 3 weeks for this "couple days, tops" work. Extremely dissatisfied, wish I could give zero stars out of 5. (x-posted from my google review.)

Not a dancer, but I attended the Ordway's Conservatory of Classical Ballet annual Nutcracker show…read moreat Colgan High School and was absolutely blown away by the production value this little studio puts out. The costumes, dances, performances, and little thoughtful touches such as Nutcracker step-and-repeats, themed snacks and merch, free visits with Santa during intermission really made me think that this was a special school. I've been to several other Nutcracker shows in the area and this one truly blows all other dance schools in the area. I love how they allow small children in the crowd to be part of the party dance scene. It was a LONG show but my five year old and her younger cousins were absolutely entranced the entire time. I can only think of the time, preparation, and dedication it took to put on a show of this caliber. If we lived closer, I would one hundred twenty percent enroll my daughter here for classes.

My child attended Ordway for over a year without any issues, and we truly appreciated her teacher…read more Because of that positive experience, we paid to enroll her in the Nutcracker recital. Unfortunately, during a long rehearsal, my 7-year-old came to me very upset after the director yelled in front of the full cast and stated that she could be removed if she didn't learn the steps. Since parents are not allowed in the facility during rehearsals, I cannot confirm the exact wording or whether it was directed specifically at her, but the emotional impact was devastating. Prior to this, we had no interactions with the director. This experience made my daughter feel singled out and ashamed in front of her peers and friends. We emailed the director with an official withdrawal notice and explained our concerns. While the director apologized and offered to apologize to my daughter, we declined. We are raising our children to understand that words have power, and we hold ourselves and others accountable for the impact words can have. Because of that, we expect instructors and educators to maintain the highest professional standards. Fear, threats, public criticism, or shaming have no place in teaching any child, and there is absolutely nothing to be gained or learned from this kind of belittling behavior. The only appropriate response is to remove ourselves from any environment where such conduct is considered acceptable. We allowed our daughter to finish the paid recital because she wanted to participate, but ultimately withdrew both of our children (ages 7 and 4). The environment no longer aligned with the values of encouragement, respect, and emotional safety that we expect. As a parent, this was a very difficult conversation to have with my child. We cannot control other people's attitudes or demeanor, but we can control our environment and actions--and we should never be in a place where a child feels that their best isn't good enough, especially for a paid service. This situation should have been handled professionally, with an email or a quick conversation with the parent, which I would expect from someone with "over 20 years" of experience. In today's world, where apologies are often quick and reactive, we aim to raise children who spread kindness, compassion, and bravery. I am very proud of my daughter for feeling safe enough to speak up to me and for continuing to attend rehearsals even though she was nervous and scared. The recital itself was very nice, and it is a shame that we had to withdraw them--but our child's emotional well-being will always be our priority. For these reasons, I will not recommend this studio to family or friends.

I can't say enough how pleased and grateful we are to Joe for being such an amazing piano teacher…read moreto our son. My husband and I, being professional musicians as well, searched for a long time to find the perfect piano teacher. Our son had a prior piano teacher who, although kind, did not provide our son with the teaching he needed to help him advance, and that former teacher also wasn't invested in getting to know our child. Joe is the exact opposite of all this! Joe is a patient, intelligent teacher, who knows how to challenge his students while still having fun. He truly cares about our son, and indeed, cares for all of the students in his piano studio. I have been able to personally witness this not only during my son's lessons, but also in the group piano lessons and studio recitals that Joe hosts each season. Joe also has a wonderful way of integrating important life lessons while teaching piano, and takes the time to learn about each child so that he knows how best to relate to them and build their confidence. Joe's experience teaching leadership classes in the past to young leaders in training also shines through and enhances his teaching in every piano lesson. Additionally, Joe has a very high level of musical experience and expertise that allows him to teach all student levels, from the very beginner piano player to the advanced high school student or adult pianist. It's been an amazing three years of study with Joe so far, and our son looks forward to many more years of study to come. I highly recommend Manassas Joe's Piano!
