11/4/19 I always went by this place in the past few years,…read morebut never knew of its existence. Maybe its because I did not see the fencing sign sitting outside the main doors. Nevertheless, today I did notice the sign and decided to check it out. It has been a long time since I have done fencing, but i took to it at a fast rate. Out of the three types of fencing I have done, Saber is the only one I haven't experienced. The art of slashing doesn't come into Epee and Foil, unless it's a real duel...and if that is the case, you can rest assure your hands and feet will be used too...but I digress. I met the executive of the establishment. Her name is Connie Schreiber and she did do fencing, but I think she is a better swordsman than she claims to be. She gave me a tour of her establishment and when she was done, told me about some of the staff members and the people in some of the photos. Two of her staff have been in the Olympics and won medals. Other students have done very well in tournaments. Apparently Connie Schreiber's Academy has been number one for nearly a decade. This says a lot about how the students are trained. I remember when I learned about foot work and other fundamentals of fencing at Montgomery College in Rockville Maryland, part of me wanted to just get on with the bouts. I quickly realized that the fundamentals and history of fencing are just as important as the bouts...unless you wish to call them duels. I a strongly thinking about joining as a way of exercising. Maybe I might get my wife into this too. If I remember correctly, there is a $49 membership fee and it costs $125 per month. I forgot to ask what it may cost for your own fencing outfit, because some people may not want to use a used fencers uniform. I saw students arriving and some were in uniform, so you can buy your own uniform. You will need it if your going to compete in actual tournaments. If not, there are uniforms you can wear. I will return and try this out for a month or two. We will see in the next few weeks or next month.

The classes and coaching are great. FSA and its coaches are widely recognized for their technique. The coaches take a patient and encouraging "long view" when developing young fencers. The office staff is friendly and responsive. This club is for those who are serious about fencing, as well as anyone interested in learning about the sport. The club offers private lessons, group classes, and coaching at major competitions. There are classes for beginners, intermediate, and elite fencers. Many of the advanced level fencers participate in on Friday nights every week. . For children, the fencing season begins in September and ends with the Summer National Championships in July. Consider a couple of 20-minute private lessons before committing to a series of classes and buying fencing gear.

Fencing was something that my mother wanted to do as part of numerous adventurous birthday outings and I am glad that she chose AIC!! From the time we arrived to the time we left, we were welcomed by the staff with open arms, warm smiles and attentiveness to us properly learning the basics of the sport while having fun. We got to see one of the staff members training his student, did some drills, took plenty of pics and videos, and even got on the mats to battle. We haven't stopped talking about how awesome the time spent was and how we can't wait to do it again! I definitely recommend AIC!!

This is a great fencing club. I'm 50 years old and had serious reservation about starting fencing…read moreat this age. However, you work up a sweat running up and down the mat and parring and jabbing at your opponent. It's a great way to work out without the boredom of running stationary in a gym. Basically, you will spend the first half of the class stretching out and learning basic moves, such as stance, forward and backward footwork as well as attack and defense. The later half is spend picking up "games" (bouts) with other fencers. Thus, you get to immediately try out the lessons you learned. You can just about try to fence with anyone (and in fact is encouraged): young or old, short or tall, experience or not, it doesn't matter since each one brings their own nuances to the game. It really is a mind game as well as physical fencing techniques. Once hooked, you keep thinking about the next lesson and how you plan to "beat" the opponent (in a friendly way, of course). There are more kids than adults at this time, so I think bringing your children to fence would be no problem in terms of finding a suitable partner to bout. The three coaches are top notch and very friendly. They try to make fencing more fun than a grueling workout. Give it a try.
