Fencing was something that my mother wanted to do as part of numerous adventurous birthday outings and I am glad that she chose AIC!! From the time we arrived to the time we left, we were welcomed by the staff with open arms, warm smiles and attentiveness to us properly learning the basics of the sport while having fun. We got to see one of the staff members training his student, did some drills, took plenty of pics and videos, and even got on the mats to battle. We haven't stopped talking about how awesome the time spent was and how we can't wait to do it again! I definitely recommend AIC!!

It's down a dirt road but im assuming, pretty new and everything is so clean. I prefer the classes over the actual gym and they have tons. They also have a pickleball court! It took me a minute to find a parking spot but again, lot of very big for the size of the facility. When checking in, there is no questioning for guests, which I liked. I didn't have to talk to anyone or fill out a form. I just got to go and do the classes. When walking thru the main level, there is a whole basketball court, pickleball court, child care, FULL locker rooms (that are huge). You go upstairs and huge weight training room and group fitness classes. I love Heidi's Barre classes. Everything is so clean, looks so nice and welcoming. The reason for 4 stars is the price of the membership. $170 seems silly.

That way you end up inadvertently meeting the different doulas. We went with Cara. She has a ton of experience and super chill vibe. Our hospital was not allowing extra visitors due to COVID so we signed up for a virtual doula service. She met with us a few times before the birth to review questions, birth plan, and provide support. She was also available via email for random questions that came up in between. The day of my labor I reached out to her as needed and she guided me through some of the decisions we had to make. Her support made it so that I could better advocate for myself and my baby during my labor. She was 100% supportive of all my decisions and in the end I ended up having a beautiful and quick birth. I am so happy we got a doula and recommend it to anyone no matter what type of brith you are planning on having. I found the groups to be more helpful towards the beginning of my pregnancy, especially as it was a time that COVID was just ramping up. The only issue is that the people in group vary from week to week. I think it would be nice to be able to connect with the same group from week to week so there is some continuity.

"TL;DR"? BODY20 is the real deal. Truth in Advertising…read more Longer version: having learned of their existence in 2023, after I'd already gotten in the pipeline for gastric sleeve surgery, I held off on setting foot in their Sterling/Potomac Falls location. A week after the procedure (Feb 19, 2024), so Feb 26, I contacted BODY20 expressing my interest in trying them out, once I exited certain post-operation "phases" and could engage in more intense exercise again. I was immediately struck by their enthusiasm, almost frustrated that at the time, I couldn't match it. Fast forward a little further to late April and hitting my halfway point in terms of desired weight loss. I made an appointment and set foot in their location May 6. Kevin rolled out the red carpet and showed me everything that would be involved if I signed up, from their high-end InBody scale and all its measurements, to the real focus, the proprietary "suit" to deliver the electrical muscle stimulation and all the promises attached to it. Now I walked in plenty skeptical, as the chain makes some tall claims about getting "1-2 hours" of traditional exercise in a 20 minute window. What can I tell anyone other than, despite how seemingly unrealistic that claim may initially sound - they underpromise and overdeliver?! I'll never know what my highest body fat percentage was, as only my weight and BMI were measured during the pre-surgery process. I can say with no fear of contradiction, that in the nearly 9 months since I set foot in the Potomac Falls location: I am down an additional 60 lbs overall, and *all* of that is fat, as measured by the InBody scale. Body fat percentage has dropped from 46 to 30%. Visceral fat, that most life-threatening form, is down from 24 to 11, well within the healthy range. All this has been accomplished while maintaining muscle mass to within 2 lbs of where I started - a minor miracle in itself, given the limited calorie intake necessary to the gastric sleeve recovery process. As I've shared with the staff at different times, with the role that muscle mass plays in avoiding "regain" down the road after this sleeve process, BODY20 is proving to be a great insurance policy to help make certain that my success is not reversed down the line. Their monthly membership is like a premium I pay to help increase my likelihood of success. From Lisa to Seth to Fahmida and Kevin, everyone I've dealt with to date at the Potomac Falls location has been equal parts knowledgeable and informative, they know what they're doing and they know how to get the best out of you, so long as you show up and do your part. I can't recommend them highly enough so if you're on the fence - get off, make an appointment, and try them for yourself. I wasn't sure they'd be able to deliver on their promises, but they've gone from being something I intended to use "in the background" of my other fitness endeavors, to being the backbone of the latter, and I work my other efforts around them!

Over the years, I've been a member of many gyms, but after joining Body20 just over a year ago, I can honestly say I've never felt better. I've trimmed fat, built muscle, and even like to joke that I have a "4-pack" for my abs. If you're after a workout that actually delivers results, look no further! The intensity of the Body20 workout is no joke. While you might not feel sore the next day, trust me--the day after, you'll definitely feel the burn. It's the kind of workout that leaves you feeling accomplished and empowered. Even better, the results come fast and are incredibly noticeable. What truly makes Body20 stand out, though, is the staff. They're patient, encouraging, and always know how to push you just a little further. Kevin, the owner, is amazing--he treats his employees with respect and is always available to answer any questions you might have. His commitment to both his team and customers is evident and adds a lot to the overall experience. If you're curious about Body20, Kevin offers free demo sessions, so there's no financial commitment to try it out. It's the perfect chance to see if this workout works for you. Living in the DMV area can be stressful, and maintaining my health has been essential for staying balanced and positive. Instead of letting stress get the best of me, I head to Body20, where I can burn it all off and get into the best shape of my life. I highly recommend Body20 to anyone looking for a real change. You will definitely see results!

The space also has a bit of a giant "living room" or "home studio" vibe because of the sitting area which was staged in front of the studio's largest windows. Allison (the owner) mentioned she was aiming for this "home-like" vibe during one of her classes, and I think she completely nailed it. Sometimes when I attend a studio out of town, I feel like an outsider. But I felt like a member of the tribe right away at Homegrown which was wonderful. I also was happy to see men and women of all different colors, shapes, and practice levels in the studio. It truly felt like a judgement free zone. As far as the classes I attended, to me they were reminiscent of Baptiste style classes. This was a bit of a challenge for me because I ordinarily practice vinyasa or Ashtanga. But as I practiced, I noticed that I had a little extra time to explore some postures further and to modify which isn't always the case in vinyasa. I think the classes I attended at Homegrown would suit just about every level. If you are looking for a great place to begin or further your practice, Homegrown is that place. Thank you for welcoming me and I hope to visit again soon.

Aikido has been on my bucket list since I took an introductory course on it as a college freshman…read more This year I opted to finally get started with it, after I spotted H&E here on yelp being close to home. Having studied Zen Buddhism and Bushido while younger, the core philosophy of Aikido very much catered to what I was seeking in a martial art. In my 2 months of practice I have found Sensei Ericksen to be an experienced and patient teacher with a unique style (no two classes will ever be the same outside of ritual), but he is also an admirable human being on a personal level which I find very important in a coach of any kind. One of the coolest aspects of practicing Aikido at H&E is the variety of students. I have practiced with young children as well as senior citizens. The dojo is filled with a wide variety of friendly students and instructors, and is open to learners of any age, gender, or athletic level. Some of Sensei's key teaching philosophies is that students should constantly practice outside of their comfort zones, and you will also find yourself teaching others while learning. This real world grounding towards training and communal learning format is time tested across generations and simply a more positive experience. For those out there seeking a novel way to get in more exercise I can certainly attest that classes will be a workout. Sensei will never ask you to do what you are physically unable to, and is a keen observer for any health concerns or nagging injuries. That being said, he has no qualms pushing you to your limits, wherever they lay that day. 2 months in, I have yet to not be sore after a class, and I am usually breaking a healthy sweat before warm ups have finished. For anyone on the fence on taking martial arts, or not convinced of the practicality of learning a self defense technique centered on not harming one's aggressors, I would invite you to try some classes and see how you feel afterward. There are a number of elements to physical fitness, and in my 2 months of classes at H&E I have found all of them challenged so far.

Most people know Adventure Links for their popular camp programs for children and teens. However, they also offer stellar corporate team building programs, which is how I got to know them. About five years ago, as the CEO of a growing company of 20 professionals, I was struggling with how to address some growing pains and spice up our upcoming quarterly retreat. A friend recommended Adventure Links, so I scheduled a meeting with Anna, the CEO. Anna came to my office and interviewed me to understand my business, our challenges, and what I hoped to accomplish. She asked many questions, listened, and took notes. The next week, we took our team of 20 to their retreat location. Anna and her team had put together an all-day agenda of activities that went way beyond simple ropes courses. What surprised and "sold" me on them was how she'd managed to incorporate our growing pains into her exercises in meaningful ways. Sure, we had fun and bonded, but more importantly most of us began to see certain everyday problems in meaningful new ways, with fresh solutions. To this day our team references those exercises like old Seinfeld episodes. After each exercise - some physically challenging and all mentally challenging - Anna would bring us together and help us draw correlations to some of our corporate issues. It helped that she has a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She and her team also knew when to push and put us on the spot to drive home a point. Six months later, we wanted to bring Adventure Links back for another quarterly retreat, but this time due to bad weather we had to do the exercises in our office. They totally pulled it off! The indoor exercises were unique and again gave us a fresh perspective on both issues and people. An example - during one intense exercise where we split into two teams, a junior staff person had a "eureka!" moment with a brilliant solution to a problem, and spontaneously took control of our team, which included several executives. I had no idea this young lady was so intellectually gifted and capable of leadership under pressure. How valuable is that information for an employer? My firm has engaged Adventure Links several times since then, all with success. When my children are old enough, I'll be sending them to the Adventure Links camps...I know they'll learn and have fun. Adventure Links rocks!
