This review is for Lifetime in Sterling, VA. First of all, didn't even know there was a lifetime in Sterling. This gym is massive. I didn't even know it existed. It's down a dirt road but im assuming, pretty new and everything is so clean. I prefer the classes over the actual gym and they have tons. They also have a pickleball court! It took me a minute to find a parking spot but again, lot of very big for the size of the facility. When checking in, there is no questioning for guests, which I liked. I didn't have to talk to anyone or fill out a form. I just got to go and do the classes. When walking thru the main level, there is a whole basketball court, pickleball court, child care, FULL locker rooms (that are huge). You go upstairs and huge weight training room and group fitness classes. I love Heidi's Barre classes. Everything is so clean, looks so nice and welcoming. The reason for 4 stars is the price of the membership. $170 seems silly. read more

The pool is disgusting. Sweaty men ( mostly) come out of the sauna and jump into the swimming pool without showering. They come out of the sauna or jump into the cold plunge with their sweat dripping off their bodies. The lifeguards do nothing about children being in the hot tub. The lifeguards do not monitor kids swimming in the lanes where they shouldn't be. So expensive ... need to find another . Also charging for " free" refills of iced tea. Rip off. read more

I have been going to Life Time since November 2021. It's honestly one of my favorite gyms that I've been a member of. I would say it's like a country club but without the golf course. I personally love the community here. I've made plenty of friends here and have hung out with some of them even outside the gym so it's not just empty promises of friendship. The staff here are all amazing. Ben is the membership manager and he's one of the most personable people I've met. The weight floor is well setup and doesn't feel crowded or small. When it's busy there will be a wait for some machines but that's to be expected. There's tons of cardio machines so you'll never be waiting on one here. They have pickleball here as well which has been a nice addition. It's super fun to play casually or if you're more competitive, they have leagues and tournaments here. There's also indoor and outdoor pools and jacuzzis, an outdoor turf, saunas, a kitchen, showers, towels, steam rooms and more! There's classes as well if you prefer group fitness environments. There's a little something here for everyone but it can be pricey. It's currently $180/mo for one person. It gets cheaper per person as you add more people to the account but gets pricey for a family. I don't recommend this gym for everyone because it's expensive for what you get. There's other gyms that offer many of the amenities like, kitchen, showers, weights, classes, etc for cheaper. But if money isn't a concern, then this gym is a great choice! read more

Zero star. Long-time member, very disappointed. I've used multiple Life Time locations for years and I'm not picky--rush hour messes and the occasional upkeep lapse come with the territory. What shocked me at the Ashburn club was the Lead General's Mr Hale's hands-off approach to real customer problems and constant absence from the facility. In May 2025, after a work relocation and my spouse's surgery, we asked--multiple times in person--for a suspension or cancellation. Account Services had told us we could visit the club to take care of it. Despite that, we were billed June-August with no usage, then charged again in September (our son visited, unaware we'd requested a hold). When I raised this, the response was essentially: we'll cancel now, but no refund without written proof, even though we followed their own in-person process. In the richest county in the U.S., this club charges top-dollar while many members use it sporadically--a bonanza for corporate when billing issues aren't fixed. Advice: If you need a hold for illness or work, triple-confirm in writing and watch your autopay like a hawk. After this experience, I'm taking my business elsewhere. Place is a Rip Off! read more

I personally love my gym! It has many great amenities. I just hope they stop raising the price. It's a great gym with great people but no it's not a Equinox. I would highly recommend the gym though! There's an indoor pool, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna (inside ladies/men's locker room), steam room, they give conditioner, shampoo, razors, mouthwash, have a little spa area to get your nails done, get massages, the cafe food and shakes are fairly good, personal trainers, yoga, fitness classes, Pilates, cycling, basketball court, a brand new pickle ball court, est.... The list goes on. This gym was summed up perfect. It's a great gym if you like to use all the amenities and you're not just looking to strictly lift weights. They have tons of machines that meet all my needs. They're efficient and quick about machine maintenance as well. read more

Top notch fitness center in NOVA area. I'm a life time member at another location but visiting my mom recently a lot made me want to try this location that is near my parents home. With my type of membership, I was able to work out at this location as well. I took a few cycle classes while visiting. The instructors were nice with help of set up. Some were more energetic than others. The fitness machines are well kept. The locker room area is spotless with good amenities. Included is a dry sauna, heated whirl pool, and steam room. They also have a in-house cafe for some healthy eats and drinks. They have a beauty salon as well. It was good to work out here. Yes, you can get cheaper memberships in other gyms but Life Time Athletic gives you the premium package of working out experience and more. Side Note- This location has a rock climbing wall that I didn't realize. Will need to check it out next time I'm in town.~ read more

DIRTY DIRTY rip-off place!!! Here are some updates as of 7/28/2021 So we re-joined this summer for the Pools ONLY (not the Gym). We needed somewhere to swim with our kid and also for me to exercise in the pool. We had to, in addition to the $120 member fee, pay for a pool pass for $75 each of us. They told us everyone had to buy a pool pass for the outdoor pool, but everyone I have spoken to, that was already a member, DID not have to buy a pool pass. A rip off of new members. So that's that. BUT here comes the important part..... The Pools themselves! I needed to do swimming exercise as part of my recovery from Spinal Surgery I had in May. And that simply hasn't happened because I never get to swim there, since the exercise pool is over booked!!! Even though they make you buy a pool pass to access the outdoor pools, you will never get to exercise there, as the exercise lanes are ALWAYS taken (see pictures) as they reserve 4 out of only 6 lanes for SWIM CLASSES!!!!! And people in the pool are hawking the two remaining lanes for hours. They won't share. Fights break out regularly because people need to use the lanes to exercise, but again, not enough lanes with the swim classes happening. I have documented it for your review. Then - Pools are filthy and dirty!! Not only is a lot of trash laying around on the pool deck but also gets in the pool. And the really awful part is that they don't clean the pools!!! If they will claim that they do, then they are doing an awful job!! Dirt, hair, trash is constantly floating around in the pool. Maybe their filter isn't even working properly. BUT for such an EXPENSIVE Club, I expect a flawlessly clean environment!!!!!! Especially if I have to pay an additional $210 for Pool Passes!!!!! See my photos for that. I tried to contact management about it and never received a response. Half the summer is over so I am curious what will even change with the pools. But I surely will keep documenting (so tune in for updates again), in the hope that someone will change something. Also, I never see water quality tested which is weird, because it's being tested every other hour at our community pool. Something else to mention in order to protect small children from injuries - the Club should prohibit any adults and teens from playing with large and hard balls, such as volleyballs and basketballs! The adults throw them hard and far across the pool. I saw a small child get hit in the head and it was crying hard. A bunch of other kids almost got hit, and the injuries could be as severe as whiplash. If I'll ever get hit after I just had Cervical Spine Surgery, I will sue this club. read more

Oh Life Time, it was a Life Time ago that we met, had a lot of amazing memories, helped each other out and got me through the ups and downs. But recently it's been more downs than ups which is why I must break up with you. Your membership prices kept increasing, your equipment kept breaking down and needing maintenance which seemed to never come, the lockers could not lock properly (if they could lock), and the sauna/steam room always had problems. That being said, when I first signed in 2010, it was rosy and heavenly coming to your facility. People took pride in their work and getting people fit, the facilities and equipment were top notch and always functioning, and you made me want to come and better myself. I got in better shape, lost weight, got more confidence, and felt amazing when I finished my workouts. The rating is a reflection of my overall tenure at lifetime fitness, not just recently. While the times were good, it's time to move on and go our separate ways and that's what I've done. Just know that it was good for me to be a member during my (life)time and maybe I'll consider returning if you can return to your roots of what made you so attractive and wonderful. Agree with Jonny3. we complained about other people's behavior especially on pickle ball courts and around cardio/weights areas. The youngsters don't share the courts and the pros practice anytime for leagues and tournaments. The pickle ball staff doesn't give any **** if you bring concerns to their attention. They keep pampering their pets( friends and acquaintances) and tournaments and league players. They don't encourage others. The rowdy youngsters never share the courts nor the machines. The time limits should be implemented strictly. Not worth spending money if you can't bring in a group. I hear some elderly members also whining about the same concerns that they don't get the courts even after reserving so they come as early as possible in mornings. What a shame! Don't recommend if you are going thinking they have 6 courts so you will get to play and practice. read more

This is an overdue review that would've been 5 stars for having great classes led by passionate and motivating group fitness instructors like Jessica K. and Amanda S.. Just yesterday, however, Dawn the Group Fitness Director, has been let go for reasons unknown. Dawn has made great strides in providing support and sense of community-- enough for instructors to say that they're not sure if they'll return for classes beyond this week if Dawn is not brought back. I attend 3-4 group fitness classes regularly every week-- it has been a great way to shed pandemic weight, get my confidence back, and feel stronger with each class. This is being threatened with an unpopular decision to let a key member of their team go. LT Ashburn/Sterling, please fix this-- it would otherwise greatly diminish the value your members derive from paying as much as we do for membership. We can go anywhere else for just cardio and weight lifting equipment-- it's your people that make a difference. read more

Not sure if this place is worth the money. Locker room hygiene is questionable, basketball courts have been removed, and the free weights and racks are always busy. All of this and pay $170 per month for a single membership plan. Also, REVIEW YOUR STATEMENTS. I have found 3 instances of random $10 charges. I just moved from a different Lifetime from out of state which was MUCH nicer (we had 12 racks, and an extended free weights area), bigger, and had the basketball courts (I only paid $110 there). If I lived closer to the Equinox gym, I'd properly go there instead. read more

Life Time Fitness can't seem to fix the A/C in all the locker rooms. The men's locker room is a constant stream room; you leave the gym completely drenched in sweat after taking a cold shower. Multiple people complain to the GM Chris and nothing is done. You're told the temperature is within the acceptable range. When will Life Time Corporate finally realize they have management issues at this gym and really take action and get the gym back to the way it was when they first open Now they can't open on time. Waiting outside the gym for more than 45 minutes and this a common occurrence for the gym to open up late. Management knows but nothing is done about it. read more

don't go to this gym if you enjoy a working sauna or enjoy basketball, recently they removed both basketball courts that used be there and replaced them with pickle ball courts, my biggest issue with this is that only up to 16 people can use both courts at once, while with one old basket ball court you could fit up to like 20 people on a single court to play allowing much more people to play at once. Lifetime is one of those places Where you are pampered enough to forget appreciating until you visit other gyms. Since I went to lifetime in April of 2021, I lost 30 lbs thanks to George O and investing in me. I body build now, and life is the only gym I'm invested in after trying a couple of gyms in the area. There is no comparison. Every place has its quirks, Ashburn steam room breaks all the time and Ashburn equipment is run down and needs upholstery replacement, leg curls you have to wear long pants, so the cuts don't dig into your legs, the handles on free weights could use a severe brush cleaning. The staff, however, is super friendly. They've always addressed issues I've had personally One of the biggest things I enjoy about this gym is the price point is generally out of reach for parents to send large amounts of kids/high schoolers to when strength training; they can be so disrespectful. Any lower-Price point such as one life is full of banshees running around playing grab a$$, which can be very unpleasant. It's minimal at lifetime and so appreciated. I'm afraid I have to disagree with all the politics, such as lifetimes rising prices per person and getting rid of all part-timers, but honestly, this is the closest I've gotten to ordering a cake and eating most of it, which I like. Doing trials with other gyms makes sense why I pay 150$ monthly. It's a country club... The community and people I've met here have helped me immensely get back into the world after covid. The staff doesn't bother you, nor does anyone screw with you, and people are generally friendly... Ashburn though has a different feel compared to reston. I find a older more approachable folk and more apt to have a good conversation in Reston. For me, Ashburn is closer but generally more serious younger crowd. read more

I've been a member of Golds for long enough. This is a fantastic gym. Lifetime is my new favorite 5-star fitness facility.  The indoor/outdoor pools, cafe, fitness/cycle classes and amenities make it okay for me to pay a little extra.  Jacob Lepkowsky brought me on board and Jordan Proctor is busy working with my employer on getting a corporate account.  The Front Desk staff, Activities, Membership, and Trainers are all very welcoming.  I've been a member for 10 or so months now.  Always a pleasant experience at LifeTime Fitness. I never regret a work out and being able to spend time to get a good workout in can easily be done here.  Plenty of workout equipment on the second floor.  Other reviews are critical on the cleanliness at Lifetime, but I'm happy with the level of clean in the locker rooms and the towel service is great.  Saunas and whirl pools to soak in the warmth.  During the summer season there is an outdoor pool with a great big slide for the kids.  Maybe I'll use it summer 2020.  There's a large grassy area for running around, flipping tires or sled pushing.  On the way out, Cindy at the Cafe put together a healthy meal, protein shake, or coffee as I head to work or a night out on the town.  Overall, great gym for a great workout.  Well worth the price.  Geat equipment and extra amenities not offered by Golds.  I've been going to Olympus or Golds for 20 years now and Lifetime has raised the bar for me. read more

I love this place. They go above and beyond to make sure equipment is working clean, locker rooms are spotless and I had one of my best costumer service experiences ever at this place. I had a meeting in Fairfax at 6 pm sharp. I wanted to work out at their fairfax location and just roll directly to my meeting nearby without hitting the traffic. So I called the Loudoun lifetime and was fortunate to get Karen Hundley on the phone. I asked if with my membership I could work out at the Fairfax location. She informed me that my membership did not include this. So she asked me for my phone number and asked if she may call me back in a few minutes. She took it upon herself to call the Fairfax location get ahold of the front desk manager and work it out so that I may be able to have a one day pass. About 5 min later she called me back and informed me of what she had done. I was shocked and blown away. That's costumer service "anticipation of needs rather then being re-active to a situation". A lot of other business can learn from Karen and the rest of the staff the facility. read more

My company has a corporate membership with lifetime fitness. The agreement if my company employees goes less than twice a month my company will not pay the difference so I will be charged $150 instead $70. On 3 separate times within one year I was charged $150 per month instead of $70 due to lifetime saying I didn't come to the gym more than 2 times. I had to deal with there dreadful sales manager Jamar who thinks he's honestly a gods gift to everyone and just outright rude. Always has talked over me and etc. so long story short I was told if I use me app to sign in or the front desk scans the app it's my responsibility to wait there and make sure it does thru my app. I have ask for security cameras to be checked they will see me checking and etc. basically my word against lifetime. Call corporate and spoke to Steve he was just a rude he said I will send you a form so you can cancel your membership read more

Negative 5 stars. Absolutely poor, if not illegal business practices. When I tried to cancel our membership in 2016, the membership manager literally begged and pleaded for us to switch to a "social membership" at a lower fee. She said we would be credited with "points" each month which we would be able to use to visit the gym once per month. I have been paying that every month since then, however visiting the gym maybe once every two to three months. Tonight, we were met at the front desk by a manager named Jamarr who was incredibly rude in front of my family. He said that we are not allowed to come once per month, even though we PAY to do so. He said that the previous policy had changed, and that the manager who told me we could come once per month at the reduced rate "no longer works here". Very convenient. When I asked him to show me that policy in writing, he could not do so. Absolutely horrible customer experience. They will say whatever they need to in order to keep you paying monthly fees, and then fail to honor their word. The facility is in need of major improvements. What looks like blood stain on the gym floor. Absolutely repulsive. Stay away from here at all cost. read more

I love lifetime :) the facility is old and there is a lot of wear and tear but the ops team always try and fix everything ASAP ... the women's locker rooms could use a renovation bc a lot of the lockers don't shut properly the showers all don't have shower heads and the dressing room doors don't shit all the way but it's an old facility. The staff is very inviting and friendly they all knew me by name within maybe 2 weeks of me joining.. the cafe is great the studio classes they offer all kick your butt so that's a good thing, the instructors are all awesome and super friendly ... they try to push your limits so be prepared!!! I have not yet used the pool but it looks clean and pretty big ~~ The childcare center is great of you have little ones... the infant care facility is great my little one loves mrs makai and the the other ladies and gents that watch the kids are great :) Overall lifetime is great it is on the pricey side but you get what you pay for ... read more

A few updates: I've gotten involved with the yoga classes since my last review. These teachers are fantastic! I cannot say enough about the wonderful yoga programming and instructors. If I could only review the yoga team, it would be 5 stars! Improvements in pool this summer. While it was still crowded, it was a little better than last summer. They removed the option of members bringing pool guests over the weekends. While I was a little bummed that we couldn't bring friends, I get it. I didn't realize there had been so many guests attending. The policy seemed to help a bit. Pool closures due to swim team was still an issue. They even cancelled a highly promoted pool party event bc swim competition ran over time. Front reception is slightly improved in attitude. There is one young man who is such a genuine delight. He's been there a while now and he's so nice I never expected he'd stay long. He's still there. I hope to see more hires like him. In fact, empower him to provide customer service training to staff! Seems there's been more management turn over yet again. Maybe it's going for the better this time...maybe. It's subtle and too soon to tell, but it would be great if this place can turn around. (I have still also had several encounters typical of my past review. That "normal" hasn't changed, but wanted to highlight things for the better that I've seen as well.) read more

The location is tricky to find but the facility hidden there does not disappoint. My family and I love the indoor and outdoor swimming pools as well as the sauna, on site cafe and gymnasium. However I had to remove two stars for the mind and body program. The yoga instructors did not seem to be knowledgeable about preventing injury and two instructors were mean spirited. When I talked with the fitness director about this, she was not receptive and was instead defensive. Ultimately we left this club because of poor customer service. The facility is outstanding but the business could add kinder public facing individuals. read more

I hope this is a fair review because I am not a member but I worked out here, so I cannot say anything about the billing, sales tactics, or long term experience belonging here. The two times I were there I felt a bit overwhemed by the size, the number of people, and the number of kids there. It seemed a very busy gym. I had no problem accessing a machine, but that's not the only thing that really turns me off about the gym being busy. The crowded setting made me just feel a little out of my element when working out, and that's probably just a personal preference because I'm more of an introverted person. I also have to say, at the risk of sounding offensive to parents, that the number of kids there was a huge turn off as well. While I think it's great that kids are doing physical activity to be healthy, at a certain point it feels strange to jump off a treadmill next to a little girl and jump into a pool full of kids. Kids in the locker room. Kids playing in the outdoor area designated for members to work out. Kids absolutely doing kids stuff in a pool full of other kids. For that reason, why would I even bother to want a membership with the pools as a selling point when I have to share the space with kids? My townhouse community has pools full of kids already. This is an extremely expensive gym, and if you can afford it and you don't mind the size and the extremely family-friendly atmosphere, go for it. I've been a member of "luxury gyms" before, and I thought the amenities felt a lot more posh and exclusive. The price point and the overall atmosphere of Life Time didn't really make any sense to me. read more

Way too packed, the WiFi is TERRIBLE. Music stops every 5 seconds. Completely ruins the workout. Childcare also doesn't care for crying children- I am called down 20-30 minutes into my workout every time to pick my son up and I have been taking him here for over a year now. This place insulted me and my friend after a hard day of work. My friend is a member here and he brought me in as a guest. I have never had any issues coming in and all of a sudden this lady attendant said guests are not allowed in after 9pm. I have never heard of that and have never had issues. She started laughing and talking down to us and I told my friend to cancel his member right away. He pays 80 or 90 dollars for this and I have see better customer service at mcdonalds then this. Don't insult and humiliate the people who run your business. I have thought about getting a membership here, but NEVER in a million years will I give a dime to this place after the way that lady treated me and my friend. I've been a member here since 2013. My rating is really a 4.5. I love almost everything about Lifetime. The only thing I don't like is not being able to add my niece and nephew to my membership (they live with us) unless I'm their legal guardian with a notarized document. Other than that, I really enjoy everything else. The facility is great and has a lot to offer. The class and equipment variety is great. Lifetime does a great job of keeping the machines updated and working. They also do a fantastic job with keeping the class variety current with the latest trends in fitness - love that they offer barre and water extreme! The child care center is ok but just decent enough for me to leave my infant for an hour so I can get a class or workout in. Love the 'parent's night out' offering and plan to use it in the future! You can register and check your child in with a staff member for 4 hours, they get to hang out with other kids, participate in activities and have a pizza party - for $20 each time! The bathroom has its own steam sauna and dry sauna. There is also a dry sauna at the pool but it's nice there is one in the ladies bathroom too! They provide a lot of basic toiletries so you don't have to lug it with you if you don't want to. There is also a LifeSpa that overs basic salon services and other services offered through a dermatologist. I used to get microneedling done there but they no longer offer it. My husband gets waxing done here and says it's fine. The LifeCafe is nice as well when you don't have time to go anywhere else for some food. I really enjoy their California chicken sandwich. It is definitely expensive but it's worth it to me. Lifetime is so much better at getting the whole family interested in being fit and healthy than other places. read more

My wife had been unable to utilize the heath club for several months and decided to cancel her membership and avoid the monthly charges to the credit card. When she called to cancel, she was told she had to come in to do so. She informed them that the whole reason she was cancelling is that the club was too far and it was no longer convenient for her to come in. If she was unable to come in, they requested a certified letter. We sent them a letter and a fax cancelling our service on the 12th of the month and informed them that if they charged our account again we would dispute the charge and file complaints online. Well the 1st of the month came around again, and guess what? They are still billing us. We have disputed the charge and put a block on the card to prevent them from billing us again in the future. So buyer beware, it's all friendly on the way in, but if you want to leave, they will make you jump through hoops and continue to bill your credit card. read more

Yes, this place is freaking huge. It has all the amenities and services you could possibly think of. It is like a little city- pools, saunas, all sorts of playing courts, climbing wall, cafe, salon, etc. One big selling point is the whole family angle. The Child Care Center is supposed to be "exceptional" and have "professional staff". They have a whole "secure system" that every child gets a sticker on their back with their name on it and a code. Only whoever drops him off can pick him up, they are supposed to have your picture on the computer. Let me tell you what happened the first day we my husband and I went to work out (our second time there) Our three year old son WALKED OUT OF THE CHILD CENTER FOLLOWING ANOTHER FAMILY AND NOBODY NOTICED!!!!! It was a good thing that we happened to be nearby (completely outside of the child center) and saw him. I was SO MAD! I waited a few minutes to see if anyone would come after him- nothing. I walked in there and asked the girl at the front if she saw my son walking out, and she just looked shocked (maybe scared- with good reason) and said she was sorry, that they usually have two people at the desk., and that she WAS going to go get him. What the hell????? Either she was lying and she had no idea that our son had walked out, or she DID noticed that he left and "was going to go get him"....but you know, later, after she checked in the next kid! I cannot believe that this happened. For the same reason that this place is so huge, and there are so many people there coming in and out, and so many different areas, and different exit doors....I can only imagine where my son might have wandered off to. read more
