The breads and bagels are made with sourdough and are absolutely amazing! They also sell other items such as spreads, pastas, wines, and they have a takeout food menu that is to die for. I highly recommend the gravlax tartine or the heirloom & tomato stracciatella tartine: they make for an excellent brunch or lunch and will keep you coming back for more! You can pre-order items by email at INFO@GENERALBREAD.CA or call 905.524.3091 to place a takeout order. Please keep in mind that it really helps businesses to pick up items in person during Covid-19 because delivery apps take a hefty percentage for their services. That said, The General is also available for delivery orders on Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes, and DoorDash. For the love of bread, you've got to try this place!

We've heard a lot of good things about this bakery chain but have never actually visited before. I actually didn't even know we had one in Milton so the flyer was a great incentive to visit. The service: we came to visit on a Friday early afternoon around 1pm. Keep in mind that the coronavirus outbreak started today with all of the government extending spring break until April which might have explained why the bakery was so busy. There were probably 6 people in front of us and by the time we got served there were another 3 behind us. The owner told us that it's usually busy but it's never been this busy at this time of day and it's been non stop since 8 am (most likely due to current events). Though they were busy, they were still very attentive and patient which is nice because they have over 80 selection of breads and pastries to choose from. It's also great that they're open at 6am everyday so if you are headed somewhere you can pick up some freshly baked goods on the way. The food: there is so many breads and pastries to choose from. They have sweet and savoury options which is perfect for lunch or brunch. We picked up a pack of cross buns (which we were able to mix and match), a baguette, their olive loaf and a chocolate scone. Everything is freshly baked everyday and is delicious. I highly recommend visiting Since we were first time customers they gave us a delicious scone for free which was amazing especially warmed up. It was fresh from the oven when they gave it to us too. Also don't forget to pick up the loyalty card!

I purchased their butter milk croissants, cream filled chocolate doughnut and the pineapple coconut scone. The croissants were pretty. Obviously not as good as the ones made in France but pretty good. The doughnut was not sweet at all to which I highly enjoyed. The cream in it was light and the chocolate wasn't too sweet. The doughnut batter was soft too. As for the pineapple coconut scone... my bf ate that. He said he wished there was more pineapple in it. The pricing is good. What caught me in awe is the way you pay. You pay exactly the amount and you insert the money into some device. Pretty cool and interesting. They really trust their customers to pay them the correct amount. I'd def return again. Until next time :)

I thought my GPS was leading me astray - again! - when it took me through a downtown-y residential area with older, two-storey houses. However, when I saw the pack of cars parked on the side of the street, I knew something good MUST be around. :) As you enter, there's a counter with breads behind it and cash register. And on the other side, is where some magical stuff happens, i.e. the hot table. I hesitate even writing this here, but the prices are AH-MAZING. Chicken Parm sandwich sm for $5, lg for $6?? AND since they ran out of large buns, they gave me 2 smaller ones for $6?? WHA...I'm not good at math, but isn't that like B1G1! I really hope that the owners can't decode my shorthand. Anyway, I didn't even explore the back room and that's where, apparently have cold cut sandwiches...which are also supposed to be good. Sandwich comes on one of the buns they bake on-site, your choice of spicy or mild tomato-based sauces, fried onions, and like 2 pieces of nicely seasoned Chicken parmesan. So delicious that you don't care if you're outside, sitting on the curb, eating it with sauce and onions dripping all over your shirt. Looking like a complete schlameel. Check this place out! P.S. SHHH...and don't tell too many people about it.

As a family owned Portuguese bakery, they serve their signature sub-sandwiches: turkey, Black Forest ham, prosciutto, veggie, all but the kitchen sink. Not only are their buns freshly baked in house - they taste amazing and most sandwiches are only $3. What a deal! They also serve other lunchtime dishes like lasagna and soup but their sandwiches are to kill for - think Black Friday or Boxing Day frenzy. It's that good. They also have freshly baked goodies but it's first come first serve. Come with a few bucks and leave with a huge lunch. Pro tip: the Black Forest ham sandwich is superb.
