She assured us that these are better than any other that we've had before. With all the construction going on the street the businesses on Locke Street have banded together to support each other. If you spend a certain amount in one shop and go to another, show the second business your receipt from the first one for the discount. The box they put your goodies in is quite sturdy so you don't have to worry about everything shifting all over the place during your travels. The whoopie pie was a good ratio of chocolate cake to cream filling. I'm not a fan of cream but this went well with the cake mounds. My cousin did find the cake on the dry side. I don't like things that are very sweet so I found the butter tart on the sweet side but not too, too sweet. My cousin's friend loves butter tarts and said that the crust is really well done and the filling was runny but not too much. Also being $3 a piece is much better than $4.25 somewhere else.

My sister…read moreis the person who splits the cake part of a cupcake in two and makes a cupcake sandwich so when we saw Bitten had whoopie pies we thought it might take the work out of the treat for her and decided we would try this place out. Driving down Locke, Bitten ended up being pretty easy to find with it's bright, big, and bold signage. The inside is a lot of fun with neon walls and of course, a counter full of cupcakes, whoopie pies and butter tarts. We were greeted by two happy bakers who were so friendly and so helpful, especially given my brother-in-law has anaphylactic allergies to peanuts and soy protein so we often need to get some insight into their preparation processes. There weren't as much variety of whoopie pies as we hoped but there was a large selection of cupcakes so we decided to go for those instead. We told the lady serving us we weren't sure if we wanted six or twelve because our plan was to just get six but the flavours all seemed awesome. She told us to just start choosing and we'd go from there. I am pretty sure she knew we wouldn't just stick to six and we definitely didn't. Around the eight or ninth cupcake, it dawned on us there were twelve flavours total so we ended up with one of each. The cupcakes are so pretty and made for such a festive celebration. Honestly, they are some of the most beautifully decorated cupcakes I've seen which is always nice. Taste wise, I tried three over a few days: Rainbow, Fairy Bread and their red velvet. While I must say the first two (while fun and lovely) were a bit underwhelming since they were basically just vanilla cupcakes, their red velvet cupcake was wonderful. It was so moist and rich and had wonderful cream cheese frosting. The others were less stand out and memorable. Their other flavours seemed so intriguing though and going by the reactions of my family, I think they were also quite great. I would definitely return again. Between the friendly staff and the beautiful cupcakes with such wonderfully fun flavours, it is worth a visit!!

The shop is set up for carry out only at this time and has several coolers and a case full of fresh pasta, and fresh sandwiches for sale. We love coming by for a fancy sandwich on their house made focaccia breads. We love the mortadella and veggie with arugula varieties. You can check their specials on their Instagram https://instagram.com/pasta.mercato There so many delicious things but the star of the show is their homemade fresh pastas you can buy by weight. It's cool to get to see the pasta being made nearby the checkout / ordering counter. We love elevating our homemade dinners with fresh pasta! Between the pasta and sandwiches it's become a weekly staple in our house. They also sell fresh or frozen dinners in a variety of sizes. Everything we've tried has been amazing. It's so easy to pull one out of the freezer on a chilly night. There are so many wonderful cheeses and meats, sauces, sweets and curated grocery goods. We've found amazing olive oils, candies, and other goodies. The lemon slushies were tasty in the summer. We haven't tried the pizza but look forward to it. We love supporting this growing local business. It's convenient and awesome to seeing the pasta for sale at Dundurn Market and get to eat it in special soups at The Burnt Tongue! I love when local businesses collaborate. Yum!!

Packets of the yellow mustard was a nice condiment along with the mayonnaise. Good price of $9.00 and they also had the Francesinha sandwich with fries and a fried soft partly runny egg on top but was $25.00 which had thin sliced ham, chorizo sausage and bifana , It was very good but a bit pricey and small in size compared to the European version. They had the 3 flavors of Sumol and also beers but were out of Super Bock. The Natas were good but were not fresh out of the oven rather it was room temperature and $2.50 each which is also the same price for the juice. The service was top notch. Order taker was also the server was very nice. Food came at a decent waiting time. We were the only ones there but she was still very friendly. Ambiance was a simple cafe with seven sitting areas with mostly table for two and a couple of tables for 4. There was the Portuguese radio station playing in the background with some music. They also had the Portuguese news from PT playing in the background. Overall it was very good.

My biggest issue is reliability. I've placed orders ahead of time, only to arrive and be told they aren't ready until much later than promised. It makes it very difficult to plan your day when a "guaranteed" pickup time isn't honoured. To make matters worse, the customer service is disappointing. When I tried to politely voice my concerns on their Facebook page, I wasn't met with an apology or a solution--they simply blocked me. It's pretty unprofessional to silence feedback rather than address the underlying service issues. Pros: * Beautiful shop and great atmosphere. Cons: * Unreliable: Orders are rarely ready when promised. * Payment Restrictions: They don't accept debit or credit, which is a huge inconvenience in this day and age. * Poor Communication: Unwilling to handle customer feedback online. Overall, while the bakery looks the part, the lack of professionalism and the "cash only" hurdle make it hard to recommend. I'll likely be taking my business elsewhere

I thought my GPS was leading me astray - again! - when it took me through a downtown-y residential area with older, two-storey houses. However, when I saw the pack of cars parked on the side of the street, I knew something good MUST be around. :) As you enter, there's a counter with breads behind it and cash register. And on the other side, is where some magical stuff happens, i.e. the hot table. I hesitate even writing this here, but the prices are AH-MAZING. Chicken Parm sandwich sm for $5, lg for $6?? AND since they ran out of large buns, they gave me 2 smaller ones for $6?? WHA...I'm not good at math, but isn't that like B1G1! I really hope that the owners can't decode my shorthand. Anyway, I didn't even explore the back room and that's where, apparently have cold cut sandwiches...which are also supposed to be good. Sandwich comes on one of the buns they bake on-site, your choice of spicy or mild tomato-based sauces, fried onions, and like 2 pieces of nicely seasoned Chicken parmesan. So delicious that you don't care if you're outside, sitting on the curb, eating it with sauce and onions dripping all over your shirt. Looking like a complete schlameel. Check this place out! P.S. SHHH...and don't tell too many people about it.

As a family owned Portuguese bakery, they serve their signature sub-sandwiches: turkey, Black Forest ham, prosciutto, veggie, all but the kitchen sink. Not only are their buns freshly baked in house - they taste amazing and most sandwiches are only $3. What a deal! They also serve other lunchtime dishes like lasagna and soup but their sandwiches are to kill for - think Black Friday or Boxing Day frenzy. It's that good. They also have freshly baked goodies but it's first come first serve. Come with a few bucks and leave with a huge lunch. Pro tip: the Black Forest ham sandwich is superb.
