Not so good. It's to dumpy inside to charge those prices - unless, of course, you love soccer and cricket, and/or are looking to pick up a euro-mate. We stopped into the Globe to have a couple drinks and possibly eat dinner. I have a friend who works there and I was interested in visiting and checking out her new place of employment. As we looked around at the plates of food middle-aged men were mowing down on, we were kind of grossed out. The food didn't look very appealing and the prices on the menu seemed really high for mediocre bar food... Especially when you can get a great, upscale, bar-food meal at Bowmans right up the street for a few dollars more. We ordered a piece of cheese cake to be nice, and it was more then disappointing... even had low expectations. They do have a great beer list, but a couple of the ones we tried that were on draft were kind of skunky. I feel like the prices are too high for this dive-baresque place. I understand it appeals to soccer and cricket fans, but if you have no interest in either sport - or European men - I would avoid it. read more

This place is just awful. Went to watch Tottenham v Arsenal on Sunday. Got to the bar at 0900 and was starting to fill up. Didn't get a server till about 1030AM. One server in the whole back bar area and about 50-100 patrons. Took easily over 30 minutes before you ever saw the server again and she kept forgetting to bring my beer. Ordered sausage, egg and bacon breakfast sandwich which was good, but was given no condiments, napkins or silverware - so I had to grab myself. They basically let people freeload in the back without ordering food or drink and just take up space. Beers are about what you would expect ($6.50 for a Guinness) but the service was terrible just because they are grossly understaffed. Two TVs were also on but were showing static the whole time. Could've easily had a seizure if I was forced to watch a game on the surrounding screens. Seems like a place that knows they are getting good foot traffic so they don't give a rat's a** about their customers or customer service. How can you have 100 people with one server and not even a bartender for the back bar? I live about 6 minutes from this place but I will happily travel further to explore other venues. Finally they had a line out the door and did not open up the Globe Lounge. Stupid owner, stupid bar, poor TVs, food was ok (only reason I give any ranking) and they were seemingly out of half the beers they had. read more

We've been coming here for years, and even though we can't eat here, we've always been happy that they have multiple gluten-free beer offerings... but since they've downsized, it seems they've removed them all - ? Globe Pub, if you see this, would you please consider at least adding back Prairie Path by Two Brothers? It's a great GF beer made with barley, with the gluten removed afterwards... so non-GF folks like it, too. If so, we'd love to come back! read more

Stopped here for an appreciation event for volunteers, and we were in the backroom. The backroom was really nice, with plenty of seats, and a circle of TVs playing sports. I drank some free bud Light, but it looked like they had a nice selection of beers on tap if I wanted to get one. They also cooked food that they normally offer which was really good. Their fries chicken and chips with spinach dip were really good. Their Bosco stick and baked potatos were just alright. Overall it was a standard bar with nice staff, and a normal bar environment. If I was in the area I would consider coming again. read more

This place always reminds me of when I was sitting at the Tierpark Bistro in Berlin, listening to a bunch of construction workers sing a Liverpool cheer song with wild enthusiasm--auf Deutsch. At the time, I thought it was peculiar to witness such intense fandom for a British team from blue collar German guys. But I've come to learn that soccer (futbol, fuball, football) and its fanaticism know no bounds. The Globe Pub definitely reflects the international nature of the game, and offers worldly drinks as homage to it. The Globe Pub beer list is totally overwhelming and awesome--IPAs, stouts, blondes, porters, hefeweizen, pilsner, frambois, whatever the hell you feel like drinking and from who the hell knows where, they are likely to have it. Also, now that Bell's has been available in Chicago for a couple months, they nearly have Bell's full alcoholic menu in addition to the popular Oberon. They also have a food menu (til 12am perhaps?) with some pretty decent curly fries as a late-night munching option. If you snag a booth/table, your server will be sweet and friendly, fielding any questions you have about beer (and backing up her answers with the all-knowing bartender's knowledge). The Globe, as I'm now affectionately calling it, has a soccer game viewing schedule: for games played abroad, the Globe can be open at 7:30am, serving egg sandwiches and Irish coffee. You can also follow our hometown players, the Chicago Fire, there as well. I haven't been to support Tottenham yet or root against Chelsea, and I may not be as disgusted with Real Madrid's spending habits as soccer fans, but I will absolutely support the Globe and its pursuits to be fun, fan-friendly, and a fantastic good time. read more

Can yall believe my personal trainer recommended this place? I trust him with my fitness life, might as well trust his choice in pubs, right? Anyway, a friend and I ended up at the globe on a Friday night after seeing our usual watering hole was packed. This place is HUGE! They have two bars and a back room, made to accommodate viewings of different soccer (futbol) games they have going on. I have to be honest, I wasn't drinking that night, so I can't comment on the booze, but my friend and I got some wings and I got a burger. Both pretty tasty. I've had better, and I've had worse. I think the reason I'm giving the globe four stars instead of three is because they have a pretty stellar musical selection. We dined and jammed to awesome classic rock and had ourselves a good time. And oh! it was so nice to look up at a screen expecting to see a soccer game (which would have also been great) and INSTEAD see the Western Bulldogs dominating against Essendon. I think I will die of happiness if I manage to see Collingwood (my beloved 'Pies!) or Carlton (my old neighborhood). Which, of course, means I will be at the Globe a LOT. After I got over my mini-heart attack about the footy game on tv, I really enjoyed my beer. I think if they had Carlton Draught on tap, I'd die on the spot. As if I weren't already in love with this place, they have Chicago Fire game packages - tickets, bus ride, beers, and a big crowd of people ready to have a great time. This place has a great selection of beers, plays soccer games on the tv and has a big back room to accommodate even more drinking. If you're there on a Thursday night, the back room has karaoke which ain't too bad either. Most importantly, the staff and patrons aren't a bunch of assholes. I like this place more than I thought I would, bet you will too. Lots of European and British types seem drawn to this place, for obvious reasons. They have a single Tornado Foosball table. I played in their first tournament- lots of fun and VERY laid back. It was fun- no semi-pro ringers in attendance. Most just played and had fun. Ah, The Globe Pub. I'm a regular here and love it. It's a place that is friendly and has a great beer selection. Come here for the football matches early on a Saturday or Sunday. It's great fun watching English, Italian, French, Spanish, or any football. Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are the clubs with the largest support here. The football crowds are well-behaved and get along fine once the full-time whistle has blown. It's a great atmosphere. The best thing about The Globe is that you're not a stranger after a visit or two. The owners, Jamie and Stuart, are great guys who really care about their pub. If you've got a compliment or critique, they want to know about it. The beer selection, both draught and bottle, is excellent. Beers from all over the world are chosen by knowledgeable folks. I'm pretty sure I've been to the Globe more than any other bar in my life. I'm definitely sure the Globe leads in bars I tend to arrive at before 9am... Of course, the only reason anyone would do this is to catch the Beautiful Game, so keep in mind that my five stars reflect the fact that this is the best soccer bar in the city, and maybe even the country. I've been coming here since about when it opened, and once partially based a move to the this neighborhood around the fact that I could drop right out of bed into the Globe. As a soccer destination you've got tons of screens to choose from and two separate rooms allow for 2 separate audio channels allowing two big games to be aired simultaneously (with less popular leagues still being played on mute) . Expect passionate fans and a host of regulars during most matches (especially during English and Champions League games). You could pretty much guess how a match is going with your eyes closed just based on the dynamic of the crowd. Are there downsides? Sure, the food isn't my favorite and service can take a hit during big games (order your beers at least 10 minutes before you're gonna want em, but this has more to do with the difficulty in navigating the crowd with a tray of drinks than a lack of effort), but there's nowhere I'd rather be at kickoff than the Globe. read more

My husband & I visited Chicago from Seattle and tried to find a sports bar that would show our Sounders game. A few local bars didn't even bother to reply to my email inquiries yet The Globe Pub manager Megan was incredibly responsive and kind. She made sure we were expected and accommodated for the game. Our bartender Devin was such a humorous delight. She even turned the sound on for us - we totally didn't even expect it and wouldn't even dare to ask for it on a "different team's turf". ;o) And your beer list is outrageously good... not to mention their special flavored Ketel One cocktails! Too bad we do not live in Chicago as this would have totally been our favorite sports bar. read more

My best friend loves soccer and wanted to come here to watch the Greece vs. Costa Rica World Cup game. We ended up there 10 minutes after the game started, so we has to stand and watch the entire game that way. Bartenders were friendly and quick with the drinks. I heard the food was good so I'll try it next time I go there. We found parking easily in the area. It's a pretty big place and it was really packed. Like I said, I would go there again. More like 2.5. I'll admit it, when I order a Reuben at an Irish Pub, I have certain expectations. Yes, it's not Irish Corned Beef, but it is its Russian Cousin. So, if I date either of you, I have standards. The beef should be thick and briny, and marbled. The bread should be toasted but not overly buttered. There should be wonderful and plentiful cabbage (in this case, in the form of sauerkraut). This sandwich should be just on the side of too big that I should not attempt to finish it, but I will, because it is So Good. This sandwich does not exist at the Globe Pub, by any reckoning. What they do have are fried pickles and a fairly awesome beer list. I will return for more of both...but that Reuben? Blow up my phone all you want, but you do not get a second date. read more

They're the only Soccer bar in Chicago that won't roll their eyes or put up a stink when you ask them to play women's soccer. Therefor, as far as I'm concerned, the only real Soccer bar in the city. For two, it's the official bar of the Chicago Fire - which means all the games are televised here, AND that there is a shuttle bus on game days to and from Toyota Park. This is a huge plus, because Toyota Park (where the Fire play) is out in bumblefuck. The bar sells packages that include drinks, bus fare, and game tickets. For three, I don't know who's in charge of the music selection - but he or she is doing a kick ass job. For four, it's down the street from my house. Awesome. For five, I am a big fan of sports, beer, and really good looking boys. And this place has all three. If I could move in to this place, I probably would, except Brownstone would be jealous. read more

The Globe Pub vies with Laschet's for my go-to neighborhood watering hole. The music is generally pretty good (Friday nights in particular seem to stand out), the jukebox is solid, the crowd is friendly, conversational, and a bit more diverse than many North-side bars. Excellent beer selection with 20 taps plus a ton of bottles covering English, German & Austrian, domestic craft & micros, a handful of Belgian, and then some. And even better they generally have the proper glass for each. I like that they also have Fernet Branca behind the bar too. Yeah, there seems to be some turnover in the staff but I generally prefer to sit at the bar where they are generally talkative and always attentive. The food ranges from ok to slightly better than average pub grub. Fish and chips are one of my preferred options (and includes peas). The curry fries are really good though and make for a good snack when watching a game. Oh yeah, its a great soccer bar too. Duh. And while the crowd generally veers towards the EPL, my tastes run to Serie A, for which they will dedicate a few TVs whenever a match is on. That and it being so close makes it easy for me to roll over for the 8am start times to catch gli Rossoneri. Even if you are not a fan of the beautiful game, you owe it to yourself to stop by and witness the morning madness during a big matchup. I've seen this place get more crazy at 10:00 AM than 10:00 PM on a Saturday. They keep the TV schedule on their website so you always can always find out what's on tap for the week. The Globe is a nice neighborhood spot with a pretty good beer list, a decent menu, and a generally laid back vibe to it. I tend to go back and forth about how I feel about The Globe, hence the three star rating - some visits have been exceptional and leave me raving about how awesome the bar is, while other visits...well, other visits have been mediocre, if not just plain disappointing. Service can be a bit hit or miss and is often extremely slow. Most servers and bartenders here are very friendly and personable, but there are a couple who are just down right rude and clearly unhappy. Luckily, the good ones far out number the bad. I have, however, had the experience of my lovely and helpful server suddenly disappearing in the middle of my meal, never to be heard from again. This has happened a few too many times, so now I always plan for a very leisurely meal if I'm heading to The Globe for dinner. Both the beer list and the menu is solid, with a little something for everyone. They also have some pretty good specials for food and drink, so be sure to ask. I'm not a fan of most of their appetizers, and I haven't had much luck with the sandwiches (an overdone burger or dry, tasteless chicken sandwich makes me sad). The fish and chips, however, is a solid choice and hasn't disappointed me, and the meat loaf (served with vegetables and mashed potatoes) is surprisingly tasty. The beer menu here is ridiculously long and our waitresses was ridiculously friendly. I've never seen anyone seem so thankful for a standard $1 / drink tip. Good prices too. Evidently this is a soccer bar. I am not a soccer fan, but found it neat they were showing a replay of the Championship League final game, nice touch. The drafts all have their own special glass which is a nice touch. I had Belgium draft not listed on their website and it was fantastic (found it - Grimbergen). I wish I could remember the name of it. The Carlsburg wasn't very good, but it had an awesome glass. read more

Worst experience! Came to this bar with a group to celebrate my husbands 30th bday/ watch the ufc fight. Our group was heavily discriminated against bc not everyone in the group was drinking alcohol for very good reasons that shouldn't even have to be explained. I just had a baby 6 weeks ago and am breastfeeding so have obvious reasons to refrain from drinking. I'm sad that the bartenders and employees made my husbands birthday a bad experience and made my first outing away from my baby such a dreadful experience. will absolutely never be returning to this bar. Went to another bar called output Wrigleyville who were also showing the fight and had an incredible experience there. Wish we had started there and avoided the humiliating discrimination. DO NOT GO HERE! I'm in shock about the unethical business practice. If you want to increase your revenue on a big fight night maybe charge a cover don't embarrass individuals who can't drink. Okay, they play Primera Liga and the Premiership. I'M SOLD! Last weekend, I caught the match between United and Tottenham. Granted, majority of the fans seemed to support the Spurs, but that was fine. It was fun when fans screamed "BULLSHIT!" with our side screaming right back "GET OVER IT!" Went there for Beer appreciation society, went back the next week for more. Finally had to pen this down. The globe pub combines the two most important things to me in a bar. First, an expansive beer list that would take me quite awhile to go through before I've "tried it all". Second, a warm friendly atmosphere with nice balance between the "American styled" British pub (I've never been to england so I assume we butcher it in general) and the friendly neighborhood bar. The result is a very interesting and diverse crowd and lots of interesting conversations. Another important aspect is the food. The southwest wrap was excellent; highly reccomnd opting for waffle fries. Trying the meatloaf tonight... correction loved the meatloaf tonight. For pub food it was top notch; moist, flavorful, exceptionally tender, beyond what I would have expected. Lastly it always helps to have a friendly and attentive bar staff. When two waitresses manage to keep a VERY crowded front room full of yelpers, or in the case of my second trip 'football' fans, with beer in their hands it's impressive. read more

I have been here numerous times for trivia nights. Trivia is held in the back, which is a bigger, well-lit room, with lots of seating. Trivia nights are always a lot of fun, and the quizmaster who runs it is a lot of fun. The bar has a good drink selection, and they also usually have a few ciders on offer (which is nice for me), and I think every time we've been there they've had a drink or two on special. I'm vegetarian, so my food options there are a little more limited. If you're a fan of soft pretzels, they're great. They often have some really great deserts. The couple times I've ordered side dish items, they've been ok, but a little lacking (a bit bland or unseasoned) but not bad. Some of my other teammates order entrees pretty much every time we go there for trivia nights, and seem to enjoy it (if clean plates are any indication!) I definitely recommend checking them out on a Tuesday night, if you're a fan of trivia and in the neighborhood on a Tuesday night--of course, we're going to beat you, though ;) read more

Went here on Saturday night and it was packed. Our server was very nice given how busy it was and she really looked like she was hustling the entire time we were there. Unfortunately, the low rating is because of a really uncomfortable experience by some of the other people who work here. It was a Saturday night and the bar was packed by around 9pm because there was a big fight (not a huge sports fan, so ‍). I was with a couple of people at a table near the front of the bar. There are people standing all around us and everyone is just watching the game and minding their own business. I noticed that a guy was getting confrontational with a group of people standing by our table. I could overhear him cussing and being extremely rude. I was expecting him to get kicked out, but he actually worked for the bar . It was extremely awkward and uncomfortable for everyone in the area, because he kept talking about spending more money. Full disclosure, our table of four only ordered a couple of apps and 2 rounds of domestic for the 3+ hours we were there, so we thought he was making a comment about us as well. The group near our table eventually ended up leaving after the guy yelled at them again. From what I saw, they were just drinking and watching the game like everyone else. I felt so bad for them and asked my boyfriend if we could just close our tab and leave because I didn't want our table to be humiliated next. read more

I was recently at the Globe with some friends and we just wanted to enjoy a few good drinks and have a couple of good laughs. The Globe seems to be able to fit that bill. It is a nice intimate interior with high top tables. The drink selection isn't at all bad and really not bad if you are a beer drinker. If you are much pickier you may have a harder time getting a drink the way you like it like one of my companions found out. Also the waitress didn't really know what their top shelf liquors where. She had to leave our table twice to look. Our waitress was good but a little snotty. She didn't like splitting the bill up between all the paying parties because "well that's just a lot more work for me." Apparently The Globe hasn't made it in to the 21st century yet and everything had to be done by hand. Still throwing attitude our way isn't going to help with your tip in the end honey! She was also a little upset that some of us ordered food and appetizers at one time and others decided on something later even though we told her that was what we were going to do. She did come around semi-often to figure out if we needed anything but she would usually ask one or two people and not the whole table so she would have to make a lot more trips than were actually necessary. I had an amaretto sour...I know! Who would have guessed!?...and it was pretty good. It was a little on the smaller side but still good. I am just glad they didn't use Collin's mix! Ugh! The food was pretty decent as well. I tried a couple of french fries and ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. I liked the fries but the dip wasn't the best I've ever had. Actually I think I've had better spinach and artichoke dip at Applebees! Well to sum things up....it's a decent place but I'm not sure I will be frequenting this place any time soon! read more

I am originally from Europe but for some reason I don't like soccer. I love this place anyway. I can't quite explain what it is - the people, the drinks, the food, the music - it's all good. A place place that plays exactly the music I like is pretty rare but somehow the Globe manages to do just that. For a pub the food is absolutely delicious. I am a bit of a beer snob and they have a really good selection. I was also impressed that the waitress was able to properly pronounce the name of the Belgian beer we had and had actually tried that beer (even though we asked for a pretty rarer Belgian beer which is usually not easy to find in the US). And it seems to be just the right crowd - a good mix of different kind of people. And I live pretty close, so I'll definitely be back! read more

When I lived in North Center, we'd hit The Globe for darts or dancing. And now that I live in Andersonville, we visit for soccer games (EPL, La Liga, USA, etc.) I forgot how much fun it is to roll into The Globe early in the morning with the hordes of fans, order a pint and some grub, and cheer on your team with like-minded folk. Today I spent $15 on a salad that consisted of lettuce that very obviously came out of a bag and a very dry, very bland piece of salmon that was an additional $8. Oh, there were some soggy chopped tomatoes on there, too. The first piece of salmon was so dry it was inedible but I was willing to let it go so I could get out of there. I did tell the waitress it was dry because she asked how the food was and I declined having it remade. When the cook asked me if she could remake it I said yes because she went out of her way and I figured it would be better the 2nd time. I was wrong. I get that it's a bar but don't put salmon on the menu if you don't know how to cook salmon. read more

Though I loved the old Lion's Den, I have come to enjoy this bar. The customers are very friendly and fun. I liked that the bar is almost split in two. Casual, sporty type feel in the front with the juke box playing and a dj spinning in the back. A good mix of customers and some cute boys as well!!! The last time I was there, I had a HORRIBLY mean female bartender. She was rude and acted like we were intruding on her night. But the male bartender was great and very friendly....so it evened out I guess. Definetly recommend for a local bar and a good night out of meeting new people. read more

I dont' care for football/soccer. English food here is 'sketchy' Lots of ex-pats from Euorwherever that are...they are in their own world. I kinda love it here. I just don't know why. It's fun. People are cool. They are way into sports. They have trivia, karaoke, comedy who the hell knows, it's always random in here, but not in that "we are trying to be everything to everyone way" more like a "Y'know, Danny's pretty damn funny - he should do some comedy some night, eh?" way. The place ALWAYS has people in it. Literally - I have been there like 5AM and people have been there eating big fat sausages watching the World Cup. People are freindly, but laid back - kind giving everyone their space but not being aloof either. Staff always seems to be a little slow, but I suspect they are doing who knows what - stringing Christmas lights, hunting for that weird Heinz 57 sauce they have there, smoking, chatting. Somehow it never bothers me. I get my stuff soon enough. Good beer selection, but I'm not really a beer drinker. Why do I like it here? I don't know, but I do, and unless you are just a miserable fuck, you will too. I even kinda get into rooting for a team sometimes. Weird. read more
