The Globe is one of those places that's been around forever yet you never really think of it as a place to go. Over the years I've popped in a few times after being at a pub or bar that shuts early enough and it does the trick to get a few extra pints in without having to pay entry into a club. It's always buzzing with people regardless of night, the clientele is quite mixed (both young and old) and the staff are pretty friendly. Doesn't take long to get a drink and there are a few good offers too. I'm a big craft beer enthusiast though and their selection isn't the best. But I guess that's just me being picky! Overall it's fine. A-ok as my Yelp star review says. Nothing special but nothing bad either. There's live music/open mic on a Wednesday which was really high standard when I last visited. The Globe was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Dublin. I didn't go here because I heard anything special about the place. I just ended up here because Georges Street was one of the only streets I knew back then. To this day, the Globe remains one of those place you just go to because it's convenient and open late (until 2:30). In my opinion, nothing makes this pub stand out from the others. I have never had a conversation with the bar staff (they aren't very friendly, perhaps they're too busy) and I have never met anyone particularly interesting here. Except for this one time, when I start talking to this martial arts guy and he nearly broke my arm showing me a Ju Jitsu move. This guy was interesting but in a bad way. read more

I have been Doing a lot of Yelping in the last months, checking in places and even double or treble checking ins, in many of them I've have been a regular for the last 16 years in Dublin "long before Yelp was born" or the iphone!!! The Globe really got me to talk about, the place is great, full of fun and fantastic atmosphere, The DJ's music was just perfect for the place and the moment of a snowy Dublin night out. How beautiful is to see that the music goes from generation to generation, after seeing people from all ages having good craic at the rhythm of the music. the staff was at all times very happy looking working away with no bother and serving with a smile, the security persons were spot on. The look of the place and the decoration is just suitable for the kind of people who like a simple and funky drink with the company of their friends on a cool night out in a nice bar. read more

I'm not a big one for giving places bad reviews, but last night I was so unimpressed with the staff here that I couldn't let it go without a warning mention. Essentially the staff here are the rudest I've come across in a long time. Whilst I fully support checking ID to make sure under-age people aren't frequenting bars and clubs, it was the way in which IDs were demanded so curtly and rudely by the barwoman that really got to me. I had my ID on me but my petite friend didn't, and although she assured the woman that she wasn't drinking anyway, the woman felt the need to insult her by telling her that she looks ridiculously young, despite her blatantly smart attire. When we sat down the woman made it obvious that she was telling her colleagues not to serve my friend, openly pointing at us and causing others to stare. My friend was so furious about the way she was treated that she went ot the effort of running home to pick up her passport and return to prove her age. This time there was another barman with the woman, and both scrutinised the passport as if they were security guards at Guantanomo Bay, only looking at my friend with distain when they handed back the ID, having found no fault with it. It's just a shame because the acoustic singing that we had come to see was actually really nice, but the cold, accusing attitudes of the bar staff put a downer on what could have been a lovely evening. read more

Been here twice now for late night drinks (so review only applies to that). Staff is awesome, DJ is great - though genre varies depending on the day. The best table is the one tucked under the stairs... you feel like you're all by yourself while the place rocks away. Love it!! read more

Pub selection in Dublin is more than huge - it's enormous. Pubs of everyone's taste. This pub is as regular as it can be with plenty of floor and less tables. Much space. Maybe they're doing some dancing evening with live music or so, not sure, but would make sense and use of that big floor. I would have given this review three stars, but they have foosball (7 balls for €2). That thing is great for drunk people. They have a back door for quite smokers. I'm just gonna mention for you to be careful, as either it was a coincidence or not, but I gave €50 and got change as if from €20. €30 to lose is not cool. Count the change. read more

Popped in for the one that was one too many with some fellow yelpers. I've been to this place a few times at this stage and it's hard to know what to expect! I think this is due to the fact that they tend to have themed nights, Sunday for instance being a fantastic swing/big band/50's style evening which is great for a sneaky Sunday pint! The place can get quite full but it's always a nice atmosphere, the pricing to me is one of the stars lost, it's almost €10 for a vodka and soda water (not my drink before the stereotypes break out) and €6 odd for a pint of Carlsberg (that one is open to debate, I was somewhat full of wine and find my memory a tad cloudy on the matter). The other thing that loses this place a star is the distinct lack of smoking area. I know, I can hear you saying it; "You shouldn't be killing yourself!" (If you knew me better you might think otherwise) or "That's not their fault, they were stuck with a law and they don't have the room for a smoking area". I understand these things, I don't expect everywhere to cater to my addiction, and I do agree with the smoking ban, but I don't like stepping out onto the path on George's Street with no barriers or separation from the people trying to get in and queuing to get back inside every time I go fro a smoke, personal preference really... I'm torn, for me it isn't quite 3 stars, but it's not quite 4 either.... read more

My only experience of going to The Globe properly was just after last Christmas when four us decided to head into town. It was pretty late when we got in, so we decided to head to one of the first places that we passed: Ri:Ra. Went up the little side entrance, paid in (ten flippin' euros each), went downstairs to find: desertion. Not a sign of human life (DJ aside). Feeling quite peeved, I led our little troupe up to The Globe, where we got a table and had a few drinks. I felt an acute sense of frustration at this juncture, as The Globe was pretty busy, and if all these people would have just headed downstairs, we could all have had a rip-roaring time. I mean, this is at about 1 o'clock, not 9 or 10, and everyone was still just standing round and talking instead of getting their groove on. If this is what happens to you when you hit your late twenties, I hope that someone takes me out and shoots me long before then. This unfortunate experience aside, it's nice to head up to The Globe when you're in Ri-Ra just for a little change of scene, and for all the lack of women in Ri-Ra (see my previous post), The Globe is usually good for few unattached ladies. I have to disagree with all of you (I'm sorry!) The Globe is the only place in Dublin I've met someone who was both interesting and (very) shag-worthy. That's not to say I won't meet anyone with those characteristics at any other Dublin nightlife spots in the future, but give me time, give me time! I've only been here four months! So I must say I fall into the devastatingly mundane social group Cathal C described of those in their mid- to late- 20s... I spent my entire evening standing around talking to the one man... but what a man, and what a conversation (actually, the dreadfully bad Chilean white served rushedly by The Globe bartenders has erased most memories of this conversation, but I know it was a good one and a long one.) Ugh. Not one I'll be frequenting again. This review is for the downstairs club section. Really packed, really badly laid out (long and narrow with really low ceilings), hard to get a drink, surly barmen, cheesy music, need I go on? Ok, full disclosure; this just isn't my type of place. The location of this place is excellent, and the staff are efficient and friendly. Pricing is standard for drinks, neither cheaper nor dearer than anywhere else. I quite like the interior- the sturdy wooden tables are good for a pub. The music is good too. Personally, I think The Globe is best for afternoon drinks on a weekend. In the evening, it's genuinely a bit of a cattle market and attracts drunken 'lads' and teenage girls, which is a bit uncomfortable. It's fine until about 8pm, then it's best to move elsewhere! read more

I used to really like the Globe - it seems to have gone downhill since those days! I feel like it's a really chilled and casual bar, definitely not fancy/upmarket, however the drinks are actually quite expensive. I realise when you are in the city generally drinks can be pricey, but I was really shocked to pay nearly 9euro for a G&T on a Wednesday evening. On top of this, bar staff were not particularly nice. This place used to be a lot better in my opinion. BUT I still quite like it especially for the area it is in. The music is usually really good in the main bar. Nice little mix of indie and rock and some hip hop thrown in for good measure. Seats are not the most comfy apart from the couches in the back. Rí Rá is the club part downstairs. It's OK and for a Saturday or Friday night given the area that you are in it's pretty standard fare and a friendly enough crowd. read more

The Globe is a bit of a curious one. It's not quite a pub, it's not quite a club but there's a good chance you'll be dancing at some point of the night, particularly if it's busy. The place is deceptively big. While appearing to be just a small-ish pub from outside, you'll find it much roomier than you anticipate. This is due to the fact that it stretches out at the the back end and has a downstairs area which acts as a pseudo-nightclub with a dj booth and second bar. The music downstairs is decent and mostly straightforward chart and dance, while upstairs plays rock and some cheesy pop (Journey!) but certain nights of the week have more specialised music and Sundays have giant Jenga, Connect 4 and a plethora of other board games on offer. The smoking area brings the mark down, as you've to stand outside what is essentially an emergency exit manned by a bouncer, not to mention the price for a pint. I think charging over five euro for a pint of lager is ludicrous in any bar, even if it is free entry. Overall, The Globe is a good bar, while not a great one. It can be hit and miss in terms of crowd sizes but is certainly a decent alternative to clubbing on a Saturday night. read more

I visited the downstairs bar on a Saturday afternoon and was far from impressed. Don't know if it was because of the uncommon sunny weather, but even it being fairly empty, the place was hot. Sitting next to the air conditioner didn't help at all. But even if we chalk the heated space to the weather, drinks were pricier than usual - about €10 for a cocktail. The dark ambience would work if it were a romantic place, but it just didn't fit with the music, small tables, and lack of food. I hear that on weekends at night it turns into a dancing area, but feels like the cramped space and lack of ventilation wouldn't make this place a good place to dance. read more

I've been here twice, both times lateish on a Friday or Saturday -- and both times, the place was weirdly empty. The Globe is in a great location and there's no entry fee for its downstairs club, Ri Ra. The bouncers are really nice. Prices are expensive but not offensive. So what's going on here? Upstairs in the Globe, there's a bar and some seating; raised by a half-floor is a space with loads of tables and low chairs. Downstairs is the club, which seems to go by a different name, Ri Ra. There's a dance floor, another bar, and a lot of couches. (That part I liked. I hate having to stand, so I appreciated the amount of seating. At the same time, it's kinda weird to be in a club at 1am and have your choice of seat. Because, you know, this place is so disconcertingly empty.) At Ri Ra, The music was fine -- typical pop club stuff. I think they played Get Lucky three times in four hours. But the only people on the dance floor was the one requisite trio of wasted girls. Other than that, there were just a bunch of skeevy, broody men huddled around the place, staring at the few women there and chugging beer. Upstairs in the Globe, it was a bit more crowded, and there seemed to be a slightly less depressing crowd, but still not a FUN vibe. Frankly, I'm not sure what's going wrong here, and that's why I'm not giving the Globe a 1-star review. Because from what I can tell, they're doing all the right things to lure people in, and for some reason, they're getting an inexplicably depressing crowd. It's too bad, really. read more

Popped in here for a Fringe volunteer drinks. It's a very big pub and a little bit hipster. They had a fuse-ball table at the back and a fair amount of chairs for people to sit, but pretty tight most of it. They had a beer of the day for 4.50€ a pint, so that wasn't too bad and especially for the location. Overall its a pretty good pub to hang out in, it looked like they had a night club downstairs. So can offer a variety depending on your mood or your mates! read more

I've been in here a good few times and I've never been massively keen on it. For starters, it's very busy usually. That's not really my thing. The music was decent enough if I remember correctly. It's very difficult to get a table in here unless you arrive ludicrously early. I don't remember there being anything that really stood out from my visits here. I'm obsessed with vintage maps and globes (as any friend of mine would confirm) and so when a friend took me here I absolutely loved it. There's a decent, albeit small dance club in the basement and the back room has really nice couches to sit in for groups. The front gets a little packed, but that's okay. I had an excellent time the night we went, and I would definitely go again without a second thought. read more

Popped in early-ish (10pm) on a Monday night after we landed in Dublin. We were told this place stayed open later than other bars, so we thought this would be an appropriate spot. I was oddly fascinated with the bartenders guyliner and all of his piercings, after a few Jameson & Ginger Ales, I got a little ballsy (no pun intended) and asked if he had any other piercings. So then the night began.....the place got rockin after the other bars in the neighborhood closed. I had spent all my cash (that should've been a hint for me to go home) so I started using my debit card, don't piss off the bartenders like I did and use it for one drink, so I started buying other peoples drink. WTF? Go home Angela! They do charge for using your debit card, by the way. This was a cool place to go late night, bouncers were cool and so was most of the staff. read more

I have friends who love it here but for me it's a bit overrated. Too full and too indie for my taste. Good prices on drinks though.

I used to think The Globe was a bit too cool for school but I actually am quite fond of it these days. It's pretty trendy but it's been around for long enough now that it's cosy and chilled out as well. It's a great spot to hang out in on a Sunday afternoon with the papers - the music is usually nice and jazzy too, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere. It's also an ideal bar to get a drink in if you're waiting for a table in the nearby Cafe Bar Deli. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of places with lots of space but no seating. And that's kind of what the Globe is like. There's a few tables and that along the side and then a massive empty space in the middle, where people tend to stand with that slightly embarrassed look where they know people are looking at them, but there's nowhere to disappear off to. The like many other places along South Great Georges St. (like Sheebeen Chic or the Hogans) this place serves a more relaxed and trendy crowd than nearby Temple Bar. The Globe is for the cool and trendy. However , great sounds till late hours and whether your cool, trendy or a total embarrasment the atmosphere will eventually get under your skin. The place can be hopping with many smiles and banter going on. Great coffee during the day and I think you can eat in there. Not sure. It's in a good location though, due to being near many good hangouts and places to eat. One can get lured into The Globe walking backwards and not get back out again.
