My friend and I took a fun glass fusion class at Glass Workbench! We did have one hiccup when we arrived - the shop was locked since the class took place after their regular business hours. We were eventually let into the store and directed to the shop basement where the class took place. Our class instructor was laid back but very knowledgeable throughout the process. He guided us on how to cut and arrange our glass pieces and had a few examples available for inspiration. I will say...the glass cutting was a little dangerous with tiny glass shards flying in all directions. I do wish I was instructed beforehand to bring protective eyewear just in case. My friend got a few cuts on her hands as well. The shop had a large variety of glass colors to choose from and it was very fun to get creative with our projects. We each made 3 glass suncatchers during our ~2-hour class. It was a real "trust the process" experience, as I was not sure how my pieces would turn out after arranging my glass. However, they turned out beautifully! We were instructed to wait one week to come pick up our pieces after they were fired at the shop. They kindly placed holes in our pieces to hang, but only provided string. I decided to reinforce my suncatchers with jump rings and chain. I love how they turned out!! read more

This place was awesome! Got a Groupon and went to a pendant making class with a friend. Learned a lot, very informal and almost awkward but it made it unique and intimate experience with a small group. Teacher was very well informed and you could tell this was definitely his craft, a lot of fun and would go back! read more

Horrible owner. Opens the store late then gets annoyed when you want four separate gift certificates as opposed to putting them all on one. His loss not mine. Saved me a couple hundred bucks!! literally said to me that it was a waste of his gift certificates... Just glad I didn't waste my money!! read more

Amazing glass store! I happened by during the ice sculpture festival after having bookmarked it awhile ago, after reading Patt O's review. She was right!! Loved this place. Lots of glass items, figurines, and even a huge assortment of different color, one of a kind marbles that kids were delighting in picking out. I bought a glass figurine for my husband and a yard ornament for myself. I'm obsessed with yard adornments for my large garden, and I found some here that were unique and I hadn't ever seen anything like them before. The one I got was a type of bird, green and purple, with a long tail. Not as uninspiring as I describe it. They were nice enough to hold it for me while I shopped so I didn't have to carry it! I'll be back! read more

Glass Workbench - Yard ornament I bought here! - Arts & Crafts Near Me - Saint Charles, Missouri

I found the Workbench on line when I needed to have an old stained glass window from a church restored for display in a historical museum. We drove to St Charles and found a large shop on Main street. The people were very friendly and helpful. Their expert looked the piece over discussed his recommendations and quickly gave me a price for the work. I thought the price was fair and reasonable. We needed to replace a pain and he found an excellent match. I needed him to alter the edge of the piece and replace the complete channel edge. The work was completed in less than a week and turned out perfectly. He even had to do a little more than anticipated but stuck with the original price even though I offered to pay him. Excellent, reasonably priced work. They custom build windows for homes, and offer all manner of supplies for hobbyists. It was a good find, I am very pleased with the results. read more

I took a class at the Glass Workbench to make two dichroic glass pendants. The "class" part lasted about 20 minutes, and then we had over an hour to take glass pieces and put them together for submission to the kiln. I could have done a hundred of these things - it was a lot of fun, even though I had no idea how it would turn out! The instructor was a lot of help - coming around individually and telling us the best way to stack the glass, creative color combinations, and information about the glass in general. I picked mine up at the shop, and received compliments the very first time I wore it. It was a lot of fun, although a little pricey. I'd love to take a stained glass class, but they are also expensive, and require about $100 worth of tools to purchase. If you're intending on making this a long-time hobby, this would be a great thing! For a hobby, it's a little expensive. read more

I had started stained glass over 30 years ago and my first class was with Glenn the original owner of the shop. His family has continued his business with the same enthusiasm and competence he established. I recently went back for a class with Dave ( the Glass guru!) after 20 years of not working on glass. He reignited my excitement about creating glass panels and I am now attempting a panel lamp. His guidance is amazing. He throws out helpful hints without really even knowing he is doing it!. The whole team at this family run store could not be more helpful. From finding small items you need to helping with opinions about glass for a project. I can't say enough great things about these folks!! Everything in their store is top notch and a lot is unique, you must give it a visit when in St. Charles. By the way, Dave repaired some doors for me and went above and beyond at a very reasonable price the doors are gorgeous once again. He is a true artist!! Thank you to all the Glass Workbench!! read more

There is so much to admire in this shop! Glasswork in so many unique forms: the norm you might expect, but good-sized Christmas ornaments in all colors, and mixed shades and ribbons of color, entire tabletop Christmas trees with ornaments that were gorgeous, yard ornaments, balls that you could put anywhere in your house, marbles you could put in a basket or a bowl. A Tiffany glass lamp for $3,200 . . . all the way down to the mini Christmas tree with ornaments for $16.99. Many of the garden/yard ornaments were enticing. They were all on hefty metal sticks to withstand being out of doors. And there was reasonably priced jewelry of all kinds and colors. What a shiny place abundant in lovely, mesmerizing and original glass!! read more

I took 9 girls here for my daughters 10th birthday. Probably her best birthday party ever. It was so unique the girls loved it. We made the trinket dishes. I would highly recommend it to other people! read more

My husband I just completed our first stain-glass class this evening. For the past four weeks we have enjoyed working with David, our instructor, who is very knowledgeable in all things stain-glass and more. It was a most relaxing time for us all the while learning a new skill (we are not at the artist-level at this point ...smile ). Glass Workbench, thank you SO much for the class offerings you have. We'll be enrolling for something additional in the near future. Jo Ellen S 10/25/2017 read more

Super difficult to work with to try an get a private class scheduled. Not helpful in trying to think of ways to accommodate our party.

Just completed a glass class to make a necklace pendant. It was fun! The owner was very knowledgeable and walked around helping everyone, answering questions and making suggestions. There was a ton of different glass pieces to choose from and plenty of tools to go around. We had plenty of room and did not feel rushed at all. I took a girlfriend with me and we both enjoyed it! There are many other glass classes to choose from, to create beautiful pieces like vases, stepping stones, even lampshades. They also have a large selection of beautiful items to buy if you're not interested in taking a class. read more

I took a pendant glass fusing class. It was packed with young and old alike. The Man that was the instructor for the class was so helpful to each and every one of us. He certainly couldn't of been nicer or more passionate about the art of glass. His name is Dave and I had bought a barrette and I was wanting to make my necklace with the similar colors. He really kept tabs on my progress. You don't get your stuff back for a week, so I would say if you are just in town for a little bit and won't be back, you should call and see what they do about getting your art once it's fired. read more
