This place is so cool! Perfect for artists and DIYers. So many amazing things. The cost is per large brown paper bag. Right now (May 2022) they are having a moving sale; two bags for $20. I want to do a project with a bunch of yarn in different colors which would be expensive if I bought all new skeins. When they aren't moving, they also take donations. ( Walton Road- Overland site is closed since August 2022) NOW LOCATED at the Chesterfield Mall location on the lower level next to Macy's . It was OK but not nearly as vast as the other locations- I think space is an issue. The prices were uncertain, some things were weighed in a paper bag, the packing material I bought was $10/ I wasn't expecting that cost. I just couldn't say "NO" to the sweetest two ladies who were on duty that day. I appreciated knowing you can go into their store using the lower level "employee" entrance instead of walking through Macy's and out into the mall's lower level. It isn't marked anywhere on the doors, but the employees will show you the "secret door". I will return again and also enjoy the St Louis Teacher's recycle shop just 2 doors over from Leftovers. read more

Wonderfully eclectic collection of traditional supplies (yarn, fabric, magazines) and useful but rarely sold (egg cartons, blown egg shells). Truly epic amounts of clean food containers separated by size and brand. Need a dozen empty coffee containers to organize an area? This is the spot. Sold by the pound ($1.25 a pound or so) and supports teachers with a steep discount on top of it. They do take cards but bring cash and save this non profit the merchant fee. read more

You can get office supplies, stuff for your garage, craft supplies, home decor, holiday decor, kitchen and dining stuff like plates and cups and random saucers and tea cups. Old VHS tapes (LOL), DVDs, artsy stuff... hand made craft items... fabric...yarn...thread.....ETC.... hence in their name "etc." lol So yeah. BRO DO U EVEN LEFTOVERS?! COME HERE AND REGRET NOTHING. NO THAAANGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 And for those wondering - you do NOT need to be a "school teacher" to shop here. Just show up, sign in, grab a paper bag, and fill it up with shit. Then, take it to front desk. Depending on how full it is, she will charge you accordingly. I think it's $8 for a totally filled bag. $4 for half-filled.... that kinda thing. Mine was somewhere in between and she charged $6. if you want just 1 item, it might be 25 to 50 cents depending. Not all of their items are priced to go into a paper bag...like the items with specific pricetags on them... those you have to pay w/e is marked on the tag/sticker. The only thing that kinda sucks is that for this one printed fabric I bought, they had wrapped it up with sticky tape stuff, and when I removed the tape, it ripped off some of the design from the fabric which was mildly annoying but for how awesomely dopetastic this joint is, I ain't gonna complain, ya kno? :D PS: It's right by the Tilted Kilt so bring your galz and guyz and get thrifty, and then go down the road and get turned on by scantily clad lassies in short kilts.... As a Girl Scout troop leader, I've found many items that we've used for craft projects. Old ornaments, glass, fabric. Definitely a mix of items, and ever changing. I've always found the store to be clean and orderly. Easy to look through and find what you're looking for - and probably some things that you didn't know you wanted. I'm not a teacher, but am ever impressed by the HUGE selection of folders, organizers, pencils, binders, boxes, decorations, etc... that would be great additions to a classroom in need. read more

I used to be a big fan of Leftovers. As a teacher, I would donate to Leftovers what I could not use myself. I accumulate quite a bit and would gladly donate to Leftovers, giving whatever I thought could be used in an educational setting. In fact, I could justify any item I donated! In January, 2014, Leftovers enacted a new donation policy. Actually, it's sad it has come to this. Under this new policy, donators must label their bag(s) with their name and phone number. If Leftovers' staff find items not in line with their new policies, the donator is contacted. He or she must then pick up the offending item(s) or pay Leftovers to dispose of it/them. A lady with whom I spoke (presumably the owner) said that Leftovers spent nearly $1000 last year in disposing of unacceptable items. Some of these items are very clearly unacceptable, such as broken and/or moldy (!) lawn furniture, or used car batteries. (Why would people donate these things? Seriously!) But I honestly believe Leftovers has gone a tad too far, which is why I won't be donating to them anymore. Fast food cups are now unacceptable. Hmm, let me think. They are useful in storing pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, and small manipulatives. Younger kiddos can practice letters, numbers, and sometimes sight words. Can you say ENVIRONMENTAL PRINT? Candle jars aren't welcome, either. Hmm...ever heard of using them to make mother's day gifts? Younger kiddos can paint them with glue and cover with squares of tissue paper. A friend of mine lamented to me that Leftovers complained to her because her toilet paper tubes had a little paper on them. Really? My friend also put certain items through the dishwasher before donating them...they weren't clean enough. I also noted that Leftovers says they are a resource for religious organizations...yet religious items are prohibited. As I said before, I'm a teacher. I don't have time to pick up perfectly fine items which Leftovers deems inappropriate. I'm not paying to dispose of those items, either. What I can't use myself either gets recycled (my first choice) or thrown away. This is a shame because Leftovers gives new life to these items. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I hope Leftovers realizes they're potentially doing more harm than good. But since some people have been thoughtless with their donations, Leftovers now scrutinizes all donations and donators, even those with the best of intentions. read more

CALLING ALL SCOUT LEADERS CRAFTERS AND MOMMIES As a girl scout troop leader, devout crafter and FUN LOVING mommy, I am always looking for the next cool thing! Leftovers,etc. is it! They have this really great resource center where teachers and ANYONE can get an entire bag of various supplies. They can get exactly what they need instead of having to pay bookoo dollars to get a few things. This includes things like school and office supplies, scrap book supplies, sewing materials, floral, and even cups, plates, spoons/forks/bowls and decor for your next meeting or party! I purchase things often for my scouts. We have made hobo stoves, first aid kits, diy dog toys, scrap books, and some really great STEM projects with the awesome materials like straws, caps, paper towel tube etc...THEY HAVE AN UNLIMITED SUPPLY I GUESS because they seem to be well stocked every time I go. The workers have some great ideas to, so if you get sidetracked and need a little encouragement ASK, and they are so helpful. They actually moved to a new location in OVERLAND, MO. Address is 2065 Walton, Road 63114. It is inside this place called Medici Media Space and it's in the back of the building. Earlier this week, we attend a really fun event there. IT COSTED ONLY $3. My kids loved it. They got to make some fun crafts and meet other kiddos in the area. Anyways if you like to CRAFT, HANG WITH THE KIDS, or save your troop money then this is the place. They also host pinterest party type of events, that have a paint night type vibe where you can bring your own refreshments. So awesome. I have also joined their MOB squad for girl scout troops. You can take classes/workshops there as often as you want, around your own schedule and you get BIG discounts. We just did the Junior Agent of Changed Accelerated Journey and MY GIRLS LOVED IT. The worker was very rude, and made us sign our name and number on the donations "Incase the item is dirty". Is it really that hard to just dust something off? Also she made a homophobic comment about good will because they donate to gay rights. I don't really like good will but come on. Do you really have to include your distaste for love? read more

This place is great! Just remember to donate clean items teachers, kids camps, crafters, artists, scout leaders and other kid/artistic oriented people can use! They do take books, too! They have quite a collection of used books! read more

I am a 3rd year art teacher and a life long crafter and I have been coming to leftovers for almost 15 years now. I wish there were more stores like this in the world. I live in Memphis TN and will make special trips to STL to come to Leftovers. It has everything! I sew alot and never purchase fabric I get tons of fabric from Leftovers and they just have tons of things you need for crafting and the like. They are a recycling shop that runs on donations. You bring in things you don't want or things you recycle such ranging from milk jugs to bathroom tile to yarn and wrapping paper. They sort it and then you grab a paper groccery sack and fill it up for 8.00. As much as you can fit in a bag for 8.00. I have gotten tons of things for my school there over the three years I have worked there. Vintage National Geographics, Greeting Cards, Maps. I stock up on rulers and compasses. You can get gobs of crayons, fake flowers. It really is just a jumble of things. I always make a list before you go. When I lived in STL I actually came about once a week or every two weeks. If you like crafts this really is the place to go. read more

Pros: They take a lot of recyclables that otherwise would go into the landfill and find ways to reuse/repurpose them. I have often found useful things in the store. It seems to be a good organization for scouting troops, home schoolers, and other groups. Cons: Only one or two employees are pleasant...at times. Most are unfriendly and terse with donors. The hours listed online are never updated for holidays or snow days. Many days they are closed without notice. They also close early on some days, as I have sometimes tried to bring donations 30 min. before closing time only to see them locking the door and leaving. Great idea for a resource/recycling store, but I wish the people were nicer and the hours were consistent with their website. One of the employees posted on their website that they need volunteers, and I had in the past asked about the nature of the volunteer work. I updated this identical review on their facebook page with this: As for accepting volunteers, I talked to the owner herself who says she is not interested in any children/youth volunteers for service projects for a few hours. She is looking for an adult who will donate 20+ hours a week. UPDATE: I posted this same review on Leftover's facebook page, and this is the owner's response: [[Just so you will understand how I resent your comments. We stand by our hours and we only have one rule as far as weather is concerned: if the roads are IMPASSABLE, WE WILL BE CLOSED. Other than that, we are open the hours stated EVERYWHERE. All of our emails that we send out to those who are truly interested in what we do and participate in our programs, know what holidays we are closed - I really don't understand why you would expect a business that is not main-stream to be open on federal holidays. We were closed this past Saturday and there was a notice on the door and on the answering machine for months. And truthfully, I could care less how you feel about that because it was my daughter's wedding, and I don't owe you or anyone else an explanation or an apology. And as for the volunteer statement, I'm the lady you spoke with and frankly, after 28 years of running this business, very little is accomplished when we have children attempting to take care of some of the things that need to be done. Unattended children working and volunteering is against the law anyway. I said we were looking for adult volunteers, and that still stands. We are looking for people who appreciate what we do and how much we care about the people we serve. None of us are rude as you have stated, and we have NEVER closed prior to our stated hours.
