American Got into Carlisle on a Sunday evening and well, there are not a lot of places open for a bite to eat...a quick Yelp search gave me the Gingerbread man as an option and after driving down a sketch back alley it appears out of the darkness - so I parked and popped in. The place was mostly empty when I got there. Bartender was happy to see another live body, and got me going with a cocktail and a menu. The drink was made well and the menu is definitely on the larger side with a lot of options. I was tired and hungry from traveling all day so just went with a burger and fries. The décor of the place is interesting - a lot of dark wood - like really cool, old-school wood like you might expect to find in a German type of place. Whatever you want to call the motif, it was definitely interesting to look at. Food came out in short order and I switched up to beer to wash it down. Beers were cold and fresh. Burger was large and fries were crispy and hot - perfect and it hit the spot. I visited the G-man last night to get dinner. I sat between locals which I also look forward to until I noticed that when I was able to order a drink the Bartender brought the lady sitting next to me hers first and also served a man as soon as he walked in. My drink came way after regulars being served and also tried to order to be treated like an out of towner with very little service. After I said something to the manager sitting besides me, the bartendar and local served before me after I had order just a drink before then ordering drinks to basically arguing with me all of them that i was wrong for even stating what had occurred as my point of view. The bartender had stated that it took so long to serve me an IPA due to that she had to go to the other side of the restaurant to get the draft. I even found myself apologizing to the bartender only for the locals to tell me to get out!! Definitely a horrible experience that I will never go back again!!!! The manager said nothing during the situation only to say that my drink was covered. Once again I had already paid. Thank you for listening. And hopefully it will provide you the knowledge that yes locals are very important for business but so are visitors. read more

In town for a wedding, came in for a beer and loved it! It is so cute and decorated currently for halloween, came back at night and this was the place to be! Service was awesome, will be coming back before the weekend is over. read more

The last remaining G Man in Central PA is a treasure and must be preserved! The menu has hardly changed at all over the years. This is simple pub food. The wings are great, the fries are crispy and the beer is cokd. I've been a fan of the sweet meat nachos for as long as I can remember. Good place to eat before an event at the theater nearby. Atmosphere is loud and the clientele is mostly college students, so you might get carded on your way in. read more

Pretty sketch visit to Gingerbread Man tonight. Grabbed a table outside to keep an eye on the bikes on the back of our car, but street life was pretty skibbidy. Strange characters abounded, and some streetwalker was rizzin up some of the bar smoker patrons who were occupying the table behind us with his pimped out pool cue. Cursing, smoking, loud, yelling to an oddity across the street who was sweeping the sidewalk for no apparent reason Sunday night at830. It was all very strange. Food and service were Ohio. I recall excellent burgers at G-man Gettysburg, but these were just ok- Bleu burger and cheeseburger for the wife. Crab dip was fair. Service was pretty good. Interior was G-man cool, and might have had a better experience inside. I root for this Gingerbread Man to do well, but I wouldn't drive out of my way to duplicate this experience. read more

Visited as a wedding party in a super busy Friday night. Lots of decor to feast your eyes upon. We got the "famous wings" which had tons of options for flavors. Our waiter, Tyler, was outstanding. We were amazed at his memory while taking all.of our different orders with out writing it down during the busy chaos. He nailed it while being attentive to our requests. Although the Managers claimed the restaurant was busy, there were still open tables when we sat, no waiting for a table. Meals were served out of sequence, making our wait nearly 1.5 hours. The bouncer at this establishment is very rude disrespectful, seems to have issue with placing his hands on people once they leave the bar and off the property he Carrie's a fire arm last I knew no one was allowed have fire arm in a bar, he has even pistol wiped someone the day after they were removed from the bar, he ran out the bar pulled his fire arm and struck the man in back of his head. Driving our way around this quaint town to find our hotel and I catch the Gingerbread Man out of the corner of my eye. Just one look at the name and I told my coworkers that we were going there for dinner no matter what. One, because it looked interesting, and two... It was so damn cold. I'm not trying to walk the streets looking for food in 10F weather. Goodbye. What really convinced me to go there was a picture from a fellow Yelper of the tomato bisque. It looked thicccccc and creamy. The melted cheese on top did me in. Had to be done. There's a smoking and a nonsmoking section and they each have their own entrance. Mind you, if you go choose nonsmoking and sit above the bar, you will smell smoke because there's a door that connects it to the smoking area. Just a warning. This establishment isn't too old, but it does have a lot of history. Lots of decal on the walls. Our server was nice. Felt kind of bad for her because she was eating and trying to wait on tables, but she did a good enough job of keeping up with us even when another person joined our group. Two of my coworkers got the flat iron steak, one got the gyro, another a flat iron steak sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals. One of them kept burning his hand on the skillet for the flat iron steak. DO NOT TOUCH IT! It's deadly hot... but it was very amusing to watch him jump out of his seat in pain every two minutes. I ordered the Cobb salad with chicken as my main. They give you so much! A whole egg, over a quarter avocado, a heaping pile of bacon, lots of blue cheese crumbles, oh man. It was great. Definitely not a healthy salad by any means, but it was so good! But to be completely honest with you, I could have just gotten a bowl or two of the tomato bisque and been just as happy. The bisque (which is obviously not a traditional bisque) was smooth and creamy and very fragrant! You could smell the herbs coming from the bowl. The mozzarella on top had melted into the perfect little raft. The bisque kept bubbling from beneath it. And the crouton was nice, too! I was going to ignore it, but I had to try it. It was amazing! I love tomatoes, so being able to enjoy them in many forms just makes me happy! Good time. Great food. read more

I had been here over a year ago in pre-Covid times and liked the inside vibe. Nowadays there is a less expansive menu, which although understandable, was not as great. Got the Super nachos - but would recommend not getting the meat version next time - didn't like the flavor. Burger was decent but would have preferred a more home-made patty, could tell it was frozen formed. Gingerbread man you can do better! Drink menu does not disappoint and was redeeming. Good drafts options. Also appreciate the outdoor seating they put up. Did not see any other places in Carlisle that had as large an outside presence - so nice job there. read more

The night started at Molly Pitcher. Classy drinks, classy women, classy EVERYTHING. A couple shots later and I wake up at the G-Man. This place is like your favorite childhood blanket. It's not goin anywhere and it's always there when you need it. I started off with two whisky sours and three missed calls from my ex, Jennifer. Knocked back my sours and decided to call her back. Luckily, she's a regular and when I called her back she happened to be next door in the smoking section. Honestly though I really shouldn't have talked to her. She followed me home, slashed my tires and clogged my toilet. Moral of the story, never call Jennifer back but always end the night at G-Man. Four stars. Am giving 2 stars because the Diet Coke was good and the server knocked off $4.00 from the bill. Being from Carlisle I have eaten here many times over the years. Sandwiches are usually very good. Santa Fe Chicken salad in a tortilla bowl awesome. Italian grinder love it. BUT... Today was lunch for myself and a friend. I had the chicken salad served over a bed of lettuce with hard boiled egg and cherry tomatoes. What was served was a bed of chicken salad with too much mayonnaise, huge quartered walnuts and grapes throughout on a bed of wilted lettuce. Not expecting the walnuts and grapes. What if I had a nut allergy. Also no cherry tomatoes but instead two slices of pale tomatoes and a ring of yellow pepper on the top. Not very appealing from the start. When my fork hit a huge mayonnaise covered walnut I truly thought it was a chicken bone. $10.95 My friend had a garden salad with chicken strips added. The salad was small for $7.95. The added chicken was $4.95. There were only 2 strips of chicken! Plus she said they were very bland. So $12.90 for a small garden salad with 2 strips of chicken. Without fail, every time we've dropped by this place is packed. Outside patio tables? Full. Bar area? Full. Dining area? Full. Though, it was never so full that we ever experienced actual waiting time. Which is good of course! With its lively atmosphere, friendly bartenders, and cheerful patrons, I would say this place is a solid bet for grabbing drinks, meeting friends, and holding family dinners. The pours are strong here (yay)..so beware. Also, there is a separate room for smokers. We haven't tried the food here, but everything brought out to other patrons looks and smells delicious. The free popcorn waiting on the table when you sit down is a huge plus. It's not the best since it's not hot, bit it's not stale and it was well seasoned. Ok, so it was NYE and maybe they couldn't get enough help, so service was ridiculously slow when needing a drink, placing our order and getting our check. But the food? It has definitely gone downhill. My friend ordered a roast beef sub. It came back an overcooked minute steak/Steakumm sub. Dried out. The wings he ordered were called 'mild' on the menu but they were a sweet, saucy wing with rosemary in the sauce. After not seeing our server for almost 20 minutes we finally caught him and told him we think there was a mix up with our wing order. Mr. No Personality said that is the mild. He even heard us talk about a wing that isn't too hot. So by the time we were done eating we noticed a little plaque against the wall of our table, behind the condiment caddy, that showed a flavor of 'Mild Rosemary'. Could he not have mentioned the rosemary? Or showed us the flavor plaque? Plus my drink was missing the lime and lemon I asked for but he was too hard to find in the not terribly busy restaurant. This place is great of you come before 10pm. After that, the employees pretty much take over the bar. They finish their shift, and hang out at the bar... monopolizing the three only booths and the jukebox music. It's horribly uncomfortable especially if your from out of town. I travel to other small cities/boroughs, and have never felt so uncomfortable. The owner should not allow his staff to drink there, it's a poor representation of the ownership, it's unwelcoming, and when I can't even get offered a drink because of all the employees "hanging out" there (are they working??? Who knows!!!!). I guess when you're the only bar downtown you just don't care??? Sad. read more

We have visited this restaurant every single year that we have been going to Corvettes at Carlisle. Very disappointing when I called this year to make a reservation for a group of 15 and they are not willing to make a reservation for such a large party. The first pool table didn't give us all of our balls, the second didn't release them at all but the door popped off. A guy came over and started swearing and insulting my friend for not knowing how to use a pool table. He then accused my friend of stealing, and threatened to "kick (us) the f*ck out." Another guy playing pool commented that "you really shouldn't come to work drunk." It wasn't until after all of this when we learned the loud man was the owner! If two of your pool tables are faulty, let people know before they give you their money. If your owner talks to people like they're subhuman, he's an a-hole. read more

The bartender was so rude. He was mean, blunt, and declined my legally of age friend, although ID expirations are extended due to covid. The rest of the staff are lovely, but the bartender made my experience here horrible. I hope they get rid of him soon. He works on thursday nights. read more

Oh the beloved G-Man: one of the best places to drink if you live in the Lizzle. The location, in the center of town, is pretty fantastic and is walkable from just about anywhere. The inside is large, and after 8 PM is invariably packed. In the summer there are tables outside, which is nice. The staff and service are generally good. So is the food for a bar/grill-type joint. I used to live 1/2 a block away, so I spent more nights here than I care to recall. The chicken fingers at this particular location are the bomb. I know it's just chicken fingers, but they are the best ever especially with their super-delicious honey mustard. I would go out of my way to have the chicken strips here, really. They're big and juicy and the breading has great flavor. The fries are also extra good, and I'm pretty sure they're battered. I'm also a big fan of the fried clams and the onion rings. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal. And you get a lot of bang for your buck because the portions are huge. The drinks are priced pretty average, but they are strong as hell. It is a running joke that if you get a mixed drink, for example a Jack & Coke, it's almost an entire tumbler of Jack with a splash of Coke. Two drinks and you're done for the night. If I ever come back to town to visit, I will definitely be stopping in. read more

First of all, I can't really disclose what happened in Gingerbread Man on a very snowy day in February. What happens in Carlisle stays in Carlisle! (Bonus points if anyone knows what the real joke behind that statement is - PM me!) Gingerbread Man, the G-Man! It is probably the best bar in that little town for sure. Heck, I spent only 5 days in Carlisle, but trust me! I've seen it all!!! It was very fun and cool place filled with mixer of college kids (yes, now I feel old enough to call college students "KIDS") and hard working 'adults' having drinks and enjoying couple games of pool. The atmosphere was good, people were kind, drinks were VERY stiff, budget friendly, and it was filled with SMOKE. Yeah, PA can still have smokers in restaurants and bars. It didn't bother me too much at the time because I was drinking quite a bit and nothing bothers me when I am in happy Beersville. But I HATED cigarette smell from my clothes afterwards. Food... they have restaurant side too, but I didn't get to try it because it was closed due to heavy snow. The ladies at hotel told us the foods are quite good too though. Do I want to go back to Carlisle, PA to try G-Man's food? NO! Will I stop at G-Man for more fun time if my company send me to that little town again? YES! If you end of going to Dickinson College or somehow find your way to Carlisle, PA, check out the G-Man! You will love it! read more

Apparently this is the happening place in Carlisle. Set back a bit from High Street, the flashing lights draw you in. Once inside you will see how The Gingerbread Man got its name. It's from the very intricate and beautiful woodwork inside. Truly impressive. The bar has a large bottled beer selection and the drink menu has a nice variety. The draft beer selection had a nice variety as well. I had a Makers Mark, neat, and was impressed on the size of the pour and that it had no watered down taste. The husband enjoyed a Pumpkin beer. We eventually ordered some Cajun chicken fingers, spicy, and delicious. This definitely had more of a bar scene feel; music was playing at a good level (great mix by the way of 80s - current across many genres) and groups of friends were arriving to hang in the bar area and have drinks. Service was good. This seems like the kind of place I'd go to regularly if I lived nearby. I'm really glad we stopped in. read more

Planning to have a wedding in Carlisle this summer. My fiancé and I stopped in and only spent a short time here but we were very happy with the place. It's right next to the comfort suites so it's perfect if you are on a short stay in Carlisle. It's well decorated and seems to have a great atmosphere. The staff showed us around both bars (the separate back bar is used as a smoking room with pool tables). The manager was extremely friendly and even offered to set up a separate area for us the night of the reception. Definitely plan on having the after party at the gingerbread man! read more
