Drove past this tavern many times when I lived in the area, but never visited until I moved 520 miles away. Larger inside than it appears, with a few nooks and crannies to accommodate customers. Prompt greeter and waitresses. The food was served and promptly and piping hot. I got the seafood Alfredo which reminded me of the food where we used to eat in Vincenza Italy (there it came with clams instead of crab meat). Too full to try desert, so can't comment about that. read more

My mother and I went here for my birthday dinner. We ordered crab cakes and I got the mixed grille (1 crab cake and stuffed shrimp w/ crab imperial). The crab cakes were full of filler and were not good at all!!! I tasted the "imperial crab" from the stuffed shrimp and discovered that it wasn't imperial crab at all, it was the stuff they made the so called "crab cake" out of. We told our waitress about it and she asked us if we wanted something else, but told us that we'd still be charged for the entrees we didn't like. ??? I've never been to a place that wouldn't comp it, especially since we only took a bite out of it. Needless to say, we didn't order anything else. She must have went back and talked to the manager at that point because she then came back out and told my mother that they would comp her entrée, but not both. The fact that the manager couldn't even come out and talk to us face-to-face told us enough. We will Never come back and I will be telling everyone I know not to go there! read more

We were in visiting relatives in PA and had a Monday night dinner at Rustic Tavern. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. We had the broiled Crab cakes and they were excellent. Maybe a 4.5! The Pork chop was amazing, wonderfully grilled and juicy and favorable! It was a decent value and pints of the local beer were only $3 a pint! Terrific Dinner with wonderful family. The Rustic Tavern is very comfortable rustic! My BIL ordered a 14oz Delmonico Steak cooked perfectly med. topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions! My SIL went with her favorite Crab Cakes these Rustic Crab Cakes are award winning and loaded with crab. My wife ordered off the Mixed Grill which allowed her to select 2 items she chose the Broiled Maine Scallops and the Breaded Shrimp and I ordered the 2LB St. Louis Ribs which were fall off the bone not over sauced ( perfectly the way I like them) all of us went with perfect sized Baked Sweet Potatoes, and Cole Slaw as our sides! Very pleasant and efficient staff made for another great experience for us and a wonderful 1st visit for my in-laws! read more

Stopped into the Rustic Tavern in Carlisle as I was in town for the Spring Carlisle Event 2025. Chris (assuming Christine) very nice young lady. Had their Medium Filet Mignon with a garden salad and fries. Filet was very well done and butter tender. Tremendous fan of Rustic Tavern for years, however this evenings dinner left a lot to be desired. Service was outstanding. Girlfriend had full rack of St Louis rib special. They were well cooked but very under seasoned with no smoky taste or much sauce. I had 1/3 rib and 1/2 pound of snow crab. Same comment on ribs, the 1/2 pound was not that it was a very small section with 4 tiny legs, slightly over cooked and rubbery, not worth the extra $4 paid for them. The lemon berry cake was $8.99 and the piece tiny! I won't be back after years of coming. Quality was a great disappointment! Ambiance is same as always.. casual! read more

I wasn't pleased with the amount of fat on this meat for almost $40. The mushrooms and onions were a great add on, but the piece of prime rib wasn't good. The server didn't speed adequate amount of time when she check on me. She quickly rushed off to her other table. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. I have been here about 4 times and it's okay. I'd been trying to get in here for a few days... every time I came in there was a long wait. This would imply that it is a good place to eat. Today it was not so busy. Now I know why. The service was better than exceptional. The steak was amazing (not the best I've ever had, but that would be hard to beat), firm and flavorful. The salad was great as were the beets. My daughter has been a student at Dickinson for a few years and we have eaten at many of the restaurants in downtown Carlisle but we hadn't been here until recently. We were grateful that they were able to accommodate our large group of 8 at the last minute on a Saturday night. The service was wonderful, our server was very nice and attentive. Menus selection was extensive and the pricing seemed almost too expensive. We ordered the combo plates and we're blown away with the size of the portions and the quality of the food. We were apprehensive when we pulled in the parking lot as it seemed packed and they do not take reservations. However, when we got in, they seated us almost immediatelyservice was immediate food that we ordered came very quickly. My parents and I got take out tonight, let's just say it was awful. The bread was cold and soggy. I ordered shrimp scampi and it tasted like melted butter on hot noodles. There was no lemon flavor at all besides a small piece of lemon throw in. With this said, the shrimp were probably the best i've had in a long time. they were large and delicious. Overall, I would classify this as "Fine Casual Dining" or maybe "Casual Fine Dining". Either way, it's a step above the norm. The environment is cozy and if you're willing to wait, get one of the tables for two by the fireplace on a cold winter evening. Otherwise, there are tables of all sizes and they can accommodate good sized parties. Our group of 6 was not even close to the largest group there. The food was really good - soups, clams, burgers, salmon, and scallops were all very well prepared. The only disappointment was the veggie roll, which was over cooked, too crispy, and bordering on burned. Hostess asks if we have a reservation which we respond "no, your website requires that for parties of 8 or more" There is nothing pertaining to Valentine's Day specifically. I mentioned all the empty tables...hostess says we can sit at the bar. Rude attitude from her and a 2nd hostess. Clams were a delicious appetizer but the entree of broiled fish was mushy. Fried shrimp was great, served hot which is always a plus.

So yummy and a cozy environment! It gets busy but that just means it's good food! Lots of choices.

The food was amazing and too much , but they gladly gave us to go containers. The staff are so attentive and gave us recommendations for ordering. It was so cozy and relaxing that time melted away. We will be back soon. read more
