We were long time customers of their Troy, MI. Location, which had great pizza. We moved up to Port Hope over the summer and we were in Bad Axe for some shopping. and tried their place there. The pizza is devine. The ingredients selected were wonderful and the crust crispy heated just right for holding a square in the hand; green olives, tomatoes, pineapple, banana peppers and mozzarella cheese melting slowly down the underlying thick bread to meet the palate. Excellent piled high corned beef Rueben sandwich with large dill pickle spear and ample shoe string fries in a big basket played close together allowing for condiments of mustard and ketchup. Fingerfoods! Wonderful French Onion Soup breaded plenty dark broth amply bestowed with delectable cooked onions topped with Swiss cheese and browned nicely even around the edges of a big pottery bowl. Sweet potato fries, delicious! Bon A Petite Served by professional servers in every aspect of service. Juke Box selections and piped in music. We have been long term patrons of The Gathering Place in Bad Axe. It is one of our go to places for a sandwich, burger, etc when we are in town. The food is decent, and the prices reasonable. I know many restaurants have only recently reopened, so it takes a week or so to get their processes tightened down. While we were there today we were the only patrons wearing a mask, or social distancing. The bar area had guests (most individuals) sitting with minimal spacing. Only one waitress we saw wore a mask, and it only covered her mouth, her nose was unprotected. The other staff neither social distanced, or wore a mask. So, we will be taking a break until they are following CDC and state recommendations on COVID-19. It it unfortunate, as it is one of the primary places we eat when in Bad Axe. read more

We stopped in for lunch. We had never eaten here before. The atmosphere was typical for that of a "Sports Bar." This place is connected to one of only two hotels in the area. We had the Buffalo Wings with Ranch. I assume the Ranch was house made but, it complimented the wings perfectly. The wings were the traditional Buffalo style made with Frank's which is my favorite. I was a little disappointed in the pizza only because the crust was thick and BBQ sauce overpowered the pizza. The crust was crispy and chicken was good just wish it had a little less dough. I would still order a pizza but not this particular one again. The waitress did bring us the wrong food at 1st which kinda gave me a moment with Covid on the rise. She didn't set it down long before we told her it wasn't ours. She did just pick it up and take it to the right table which was a little crunch for me. read more

I just moved here from the city and me and my husband wanted to get some good food. The staff was very rude and when we wanted something to be taken back the young waitress laughed under her breathe. I was very upset because of all the good reviews. They could have been stressed but you shouldn't treat your customers like that. Food is good, staff is bad. read more

We had a great dinner, with one very allergic teenager (sesame/pn/tn). They were able to accommodate her with zero issues. She enjoyed their homemade Hawaiian pizza-it was super good!!! We stopped in for a beer, apps and a Final Four game (MSU vs. Butler). There's not a whole heck of a lot to do in Bad Axe, so this place is a welcome stop. They were very busy for the game, which made it fun. The waitresses were very sweet. They have 1/2 off pizza on Saturday night. Their deep dish cheese is pretty darn good. Last nights dinner at the gathering place was good, but left us wanting s little for service. The restaurant was pretty full yet they only had one waitress on. She was trying her hardest and overall did pretty well, but I'm surprised the management would schedule it so short especially on a night when the Lions were playing. The location inside the restaurant is very nice, however the entry way seemed a bit sparse and rundown. We had the pizza for dinner and it was delicious being an almost deep dish with toppings all the way to the edge. They had a thick crust menu option (we didn't order it) and I wonder how deep that would be. The cheese had dripped over the edges a bit which made a bit of a crispy cheese crust that I absolutely love. The toppings seemed fresh and the flavor was fabulous. Altogether we were happy with dinner and would definitely return. If service is better next time I'd definitely consider a fourth star. read more

Great place to hang out, eat and drink. We had the Pizza, bread sticks and french onion soup. All were fantastic!!!! The pizza is a deep dish Chicago style with a caramelized crust and was amazing! The french onion soup rivaled anything I have had at a high end steak house. The staff were attentive and very nice. All and all a great experience and will be back. I really wanted to like this place. Seems friendly, and inviting. The food however really ticked my girlfriend off. She's a vegetarian and ordered the veggie burger. Pizza tasted okay but was incredibly doughy. Drinks were cold and served quick but the food took a long time. Fries were room temp and had clearly sat in the window until the pizzas were done. This isn't a bad place if you're really hungry, but for quality food, maybe look around a little bit. read more

What a fun place! First time here even though we are in the area visiting family frequently. Family has mentioned this place. Staff is great - thank you Sarah - love your smile and your enthusiasm! Stopped by for lunch, and waited a while before someone greeted us. You walk in and have no idea whether you seat yourself or someone seats you, after this I was really worried about the food. I mean come on, if you can not grasp that simple concept on how to greet and seat people how are you gonna do at cooking and serving? Well food came out and it was bland, typical bar food nothing to get excited about. Nothing fresh, guarantee this is all frozen from some food service carrier. We ordered two pizzas to go and they were delicious. Both were the deep dish style and did not disappoint. We had a house full and those two pies feed us all. I was extremely impressed with the freshness of the dough that was used. I am somewhat of a crust snob when it comes to my pies and this bread passed the test with flying colors. We came up tonight to have dinner. I had the Bacon Burger. It wasn't any thing special. I ordered it medium, it came out rare. My wife wasn't sure about her Buffalo chicken sandwich. It was borderline pink. I order onion rings and I got about 7 total. It was a skimpy order. The kids got the Mac n cheese. It was just a box and had no flavor. We also got the kids a frozen yogurt which they liked. My wife got two beers on happy hour. They were big and under $2 a piece so that was a bargain. I got an iced tea and it had a funky flavor to it, almost had a black liquorice taste to it and it wasn't a nice surprise. I don't really care to go back to this place. The last couple of times we have been here it was below average. So what would be the sense of going out to supper to get a below average meal? The service was average as well. This place has really went downhill and that is sad....A place that used to be so good to eat at and had some wonderful pizza to now disgusting... The cook or maybe dishwasher came out snuck some yogurt for himself.....was very obvious....OH and waitress hahahaha that is a joke....brought our food and that was that....I had to walk up to get a refill...our BLT didnt have mayo....went up got a souffle cup of mayo that was 1/2 full good for 2 pieces.....We were the only table eating there as we were leaving another came in....There were 3 at the bar and a bartender was present too.....I have no clue about the yogurt nobody knew how much and we didnt have a waitress to ask ....busy playing on the phone...announcing how a guy was calling her back .....Well I probably wont be going back..I think it's more of a bar and they dont want to be bothered at all by anyone dining. read more
