This place smelled good from down the street and it had a long line, so we decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly. The food was very over cooked and bland. The chicken satay was very dry and no flavor at all. It definitely needed the satay sauce it came with to help swallow it. It almost got stuck in my throat because it was so dry. The grilled fish was also tasteless. The mixed grill plate had ribs, pork belly, and sausage. It was the best thing on the menu, but needed flavor. Olive oil and vinegar to the rescue. The chicken bunny chow was so bad. It tasted like old bottled curry spice. The burger and fries were good though, because it was doused with burger sauce. Would I recommend the line and wait? This is a review for drinks and vibes only! We got there late and the kitchen closes at 10pm which is fine. We were able to snag a table by the bar and ordered two sangrias. I got the white while my friend got the red. Love the vibes and decor of this place! Our waitress was very nice and didn't bother us much since it was the end of the night. The sangria was pretty good! Overall good place to get a nightcap before bed. read more

Can only go 2 stars here . My husband chose the meat BBQ. Very tasteless. The pork was more like jerky. Not sure how long it been cooking. Ribs no flavor, they had to have been cooked elsewhere and placed shortly on grill. The sausage was like a little breakfast sausage. I had fish of day. It was a whole small bass. It was ok. Our meal was to our table in 5 minutes. So, everything was prepared earlier. We were so rushed by staff to leave so they could turn the table I couldn't even enjoy our time drinking our bottle of wine. We choose the chef's appetizer of the day. This consisted of olives, dry bread and overcooked carrots. Yuk! Come on Chef, really? Ambiance was good, open air kind of place. Just expected the food to match and it certainly didn't ! read more

(Writing this review in English because that's my native language!) This is a lovely, eclectic, friendly place to sit outside and have a relaxing drink or meal. Like many places in the area, this establishment is very friendly to kids and patient with non-native speakers. It was hot. Because it was outside. Came here for a late lunch with a group - everyone seemed to like their food: grilled fish, vegetable lasagna, the sausage. I got the chow - curry based dish which I found lackluster and one dimensional basically made with supermarket curry paste with not much else. Ratio of beans to vegetables was not favorable (too many beans) vegetables were over cooked. Overall - blah. Regretted my order - should have gotten the lamb kofta! Really, really nice surroundings (walled garden full of overhanging plants and lots of character) but the food is unfortunately, decidedly average. We were pulled in my the smoke from the open air BBQ and I was even more excited when I found out it was a South African joint (SA folks LOVE their Grills) but it was a disappointment all round. I had the BBQ meat platter and it was most definitely a dish cooked to a price point rather than any focus on quality. My wife had the BBQ chicken which she described as "OK" It's a shame, the place is lively and the staff excellent, maybe somewhere to come for a quick nibble and a drink rather than a meal though? read more

Highly recommended by friends .. not highly recommended by us; however, we'd go back to meet up with friends if they asked. While I acknowledge that the ambience is something pretty awesome, the food and table service lacked in follow through. (It's obviously a VERY popular local establishment as we got the last reservation for the day and there was consistently a line of people waiting to get in.) We ate all over the menu. Some things to note: - Appetizers are small plates not easily shared by our group of four; only two satay and the hummus was about a 1/4 cup portion. - Main course lacked any sort of "umph" we expected to experience based on our friend's review, though definitely along the lines of reviews we've read here and other places. - Dessert was not even worth the calories I put between my lips. We tried the apple crumble, the chocolate cake, and the crepe hoping to find some vindication for the cook -- not found. We can also state without a doubt that the mojito is NOT the best in town; however, the white sangria was enjoyable. The gal who seated us was friendly; the gal who served us was not. Not exactly the dining experience we were looking for our last evening in town, but it is what it is. Definitely a great place to go for drinks and then move on for dinner. read more

BRUTAL EXPERIENCE. I was sucked in by the atmosphere. Was seated relatively quickly, but after that it was a terrible experience. The waitress took a good 20 minutes to come and ask for a drink order. Long enough for us to decide on our full order, which we placed. The food then took another 30 mins, when we asked about the delay, the waitress merely said it was very busy...no explanation. I would have accepted that if the larger table of 4 beside us, who had arrived later, were not already enjoying their meals. The food arrived and it was average BBQ. Don't bother ordering ribs in Lagos, the owner should spend a few months in Tennessee to learn how to do them right. The meat was nicely tender but they put a lot of ketchup in their BBQ sauce and it tasted like the frozen ribs you buy at the grocery store in North America. Really disappointing. The sausage was tasty however. The coleslaw was about as impressive as fast food fare. It probably came out of a plastic bin. Our waitress never returned to ask if we wanted more drinks. When we asked for the bill, it was another 30 mins even after two reminders. This is a tourist trap masquerading as a restaurant. AVOID. read more

The Garden is a nice place to sit and has a good atmosphere but the food was a bit average. The mixed BBQ plate was ok, the sausage was nice but just a sausage, I wasn't too keen on the texture of the grilled pork and the ribs whilst falling off the bone were so covered in generic bbq sauce that you couldn't really taste the meat. My daughter had a burger which was well cooked and of a good quality and we had a couple of cocktails which were nice. Overall I'd say it's worth a visit for the cool setting but for a BBQ in a place with so many good grilled meat restaurants I think the food could have been a bit better. read more
