I took my RAV4 in for multiple alerts (check engine, low oil pressure). Some rodent damage was found and a sensor was replaced, however, the other two faults persisted. I was told I had an oil leak and paid for that. $900 later between both services, when I drove off today after 10 miles, the low oil fault was back. I decided not to go back to the shop as their diagnostic ability seems limited. Additionally, my car was backed into by someone (not from the shop) while it was there leaving a dent. Amy was kind and offered to pay for body work to fix it, but I would rather just have the car back after everything that has occurred. I brought my car in because the tire indicator light was flashing and at the same time I thought I may have heard some sound with my brakes but I wasn't sure. My first initial meeting with Amy at the front desk was to check my tire indicator light and also maybe look at my brakes. She took my name, my phone number and my key fob and she said she'd try to get somebody to look at it before the end of the day. If not first thing the next day. I did not sign an estimate. I went on about my day and at the end of the day she called me and said the car was done. They did a complete brake inspection and I said and my tires are okay as well? She said yes. Everything's fine. So when I went in to pick up my car she told me the work that was done. I said what about my tire indicator light? She said you're going to have to take that to a tire store. We don't have the capability of working on tires. I asked her well then why didn't you tell me that in the first place I would have taken it somewhere else. Then she handed me a bill for $150 which I had no idea I was going to be charged. I was not given an estimate but what was I to do at that point I had to pay for the service to get my car out of there. And then went directly to an auto shop and they fixed my problem in 5 minutes. I called and told her that I was not given any estimate and she said that I can call back when the manager is in. He is out on medical leave and speak to him about a refund. Then 6 Days later she sends me a signed copy of a repair order. Not an estimate and said I signed it the day I left my car there which is an absolute lie. If I would have known that it was $150, I wouldn't have been so dumbfounded when she handed me the bill. I'm not an idiot. Needless to say, I have turned this over to the BAR as the document that I have that I was given upon picking up my car has different verbiage. Then, the estimate that she says I signed. And if she had these documents when I called the first day and she said to talk to the manager in a week about a refund. If she had these signed documents why would she have said that? When in a new area it's hard to find a good mechanic that you trust but based on reviews I thought I would give them a shot. At the time I was happy and thought I found a mechanic that would get a lifetime of business from me. Then I had an unfortunate situation happen with my truck...I needed to get it towed. When I called them to have it brought in they told me they do not work on diesels. Ugggg. Ok. Fine...so they referred me somewhere else out of town. Fast forward and I needed to get a smog check done. I took my vehicles here before so I thought I would bring them back...nope. They dont do smog checks anymore. Ugggg again. Well I rather find a place that is a full service garage. Not one where I wonder if it is something they do or not. They were nice people but I want to know that regardless what happens to one of my many vehicles...I can count on a place that does it all. SCAMMERS Out of towners, beware of this garage. They will try to scam you, by smog testing your vehicle with inaccurate results. Do not and I mean do not let them touch your vehicle. Take your vehicle elsewhere for a second opinion. They tried to tell me that my 2014 Dodge minivan blew a head gasket and would cost $3000 with 2 week turn around. I took my vehicle to a dealership in Bakersfield, where they informed me absolutely nothing was wrong with my vehicle. When I showed them a copy of their test results, they said it was garbage and meaningless. We drove another 2500 miles home, with no problems and 3 months later, my vehicle runs like a charm. While getting gas in Tehachapi on our way back to the Bay Area from a wonderful Las Vegas/Arizona road trip, the door to my gas tank became lodged and the latch wouldn't open. A local tried to help me, but he wasn't able to jimmy it open and was afraid to damage it, so I asked him for a local shop and he referred me to The Garage, where he said they were great, and more importantly, they were HONEST! When we arrived, the team got to work trying to figure out how to get it open. They figured out it was the latch and an electrical part, but they didn't have what they needed to fix it, so one of them came out to troubleshoot and was able to pry it open without causing any damage to the car minus a small scratch. "Out of towner" review I brought the kids up to visit grandma and spend a weekend playing in the snow. I really like this shop. The people are friendly, costs are reasonable, they are flexible and do good work. I've had them change out the catalytic converter on one of my vehicles and the timing belt on another. Another time, I was experiencing a loud noise in the exhaust and took my car in. The tech found a hole punched in the muffler and welded it closed for no charge. After getting back from 1 trip, they worked me in on short notice to fix some major things (axel, motor mount, power steering pump) before another big trip, 4 days later. They didn't even care that I brought in my own power steering pump (I was going to change it out myself, but ran out of time). I am very pleased with this shop. read more

Owner was extremely nice and informative in explaining the issues with my vehicle. Service was timely and professional.

Very dissatisfied with their work. I gave this shop a chance at redemption only to disappoint even more. I was originally told they had replaced my fuel injector with an OEM (in my case motorcraft) injector. This did in fact solve my problem for about a week before I noticed leaking gas from the fuel rail. Called them up and they said no problem and got it fixed only charging labor no parts. This solved my problem for 1 day before I was struck with the original failure. I decided I had enough with them and chose to do the work myself. Upon teardown of my intake I found that many of the fasteners were no more than finger tight. Some even rattled as they stood. Even spark plugs were left loose. Furthermore, the injector they claimed to have replaced with an OEM part, was in fact replaced with a cheaper, standard part. I heard high praise of this shop before but will never reccomend this shop to anybody. Not a shop nearby as honest as Sheppards Auto and Muffler. read more
