We both had the hot beef sarnie with homemade chips and the side - both served with an extra jug of gravy for chip dipping ! The lunch was very good and great value at about a tenner, beer choice was fine with a couple of real ales and the usual lager suspects. It a typical family run style of pub - Dad and daughter were behind the bar the day we visited , both very nice and happy to advise on the local area. Car parking is close but is over the road from the pub. I liked it and will be going back soon.

It seems to be about the only place to eat in Eccleston, although there appeared to be an Italian Pizza/Pasta place down the road, I was disinclined to go in as it had no outside menu, and was hiden behind a large hedge. Not very welcoming. The pub however looked much more inviting. The staff looked stressed, and there was a minor squabble in the kitchen as I arrived. It's door is right opposite the main entrance, so there was no avoiding that! I was disappointed by the lack of Ales (just 4 shown, but one was Boddingtons and another Timothy Taylor so I don't count them), but the one I opted for was ok. We called for a quick pint last weekend and saw it was a typical chain style pub inside with the normal selection of drinks - a couple of cask offers but dominated by lager and bottles. BUT - what set it apart from a lot of chains was the two young fellas behind the bar. They were both very personable, polite and efficient. we decided then to call back in the week and try the grub - hence this review. The place was busy with a large table of young families with children - the kids were a bit loud and some of them spent the time running up and down. Its not my cup of tea but I try hard to smile and not be a grumpy old git - lesson learned though next time get there around 8pm as the kids had all departed by then. I got a pint of San Miguel which unfortunately was warm - when mentioned one of the bar staff said they had an issue on the cooler earlier in the day which might still not be fixed - he offered a choice of replacement straight away so no problem there. We ordered a mexican burrito for Sharon and I had fish and chips. I always judge a pubs food on its fish and chips! Well the grub arrived about 30 mins later ( they were busy and they did say it would be a wait ) Sharon's burrito looked a little unappealing on the plate all wrapped up with a side salad next to it. However on cutting into it a mass of chicken and rice was revealed - she enjoyed it immensely. My fish and chips looked a little on the small side - frozen chips - not a good start and one star off. The fish was not frozen and was freshly cooked - it was slightly overdone for my taste but tasted good. I have to say even with frozen chips I enjoyed the meal. Now when it came time to pay for the food the bill came to £12.00. That's right for both of us ! I thought then even though the fish and chips seemed a little on the small side the price point is just right - good value even. And to be honest I didn't leave the place hungry at all. I expect we will be back here in the future.

In summer it's very good for children as they quite often have a mini fairground on the car park, perfect for parents to sit and relax with a nice cold beer whilst watching the kids. The drinks are resonably priced and the pub also shows the football - one of the few pubs in Leyland where you'll be able to see Preston North End on the big screen.

It is not trying to be to fancy which I actually quite like. They have a huge selection of various lagers and beers (CAMRA pub). The food is very good and decent value. The mixed grill was about £17 and included a choice of various sauces - I opted for a honey and mustard one which was very tasty although a little watery in consistency. The quality of meat was far away from the usual pub mixed grills. Apparently all of the meat is locally sourced and delivered daily. It is good to see local business supporting each other! They have a nice outdoor seating area with some 'pods'. I will definitely be coming back here when i'm next in Leyland. The food was that good even some friends traveled 30 minutes from Bolton to come here!
