The sunset location can't be beat, and they did a great job of restoring and rescuing a very beautiful old property that was unused for years.

Such a fun environment! The staff are all so kind and accommodating. Sharon our housekeeper was so much fun! The view is superb and you can walk right off the bar deck to the beach. Our room stayed so nice and cool. They had live music and fire dancers! Highly recommend The Fred!

Had thee best massage earlier today with Todd. Todd stopped my wrist from popping. Meanwhile I really thought I had carpal tunnel. No ma'am... It's called stress.

Our suite, the entire second floor. Other rooms available, in other buildings, with balcony, fronting and directly overlooking the ocean.

This is a review of the boutique hotel, The Fred, not the restaurant. Marjan and I visited over the july 4th holiday, and chose the Fred over several other properties. This hotel is located on Strand Street, a few blocks from the waterfront and pier. The hotel is an 1800s structure, masterfully reborn as a very modern day boutique. Our attraction: contemporary design with excellent pool area. There are other properties that highlighted beach access, more so than the Fred, but our plan was to rent a car, and visit other beach areas around the island. We booked directly with the hotel, and as we found, Delia the desk agent, was very much in contact with us from the outset, asking if we might need transportation from the airport, if we might need reservations for the spa...in short, her attention was welcome indeed. Arriving, we were shown to our suite, "The Christopher", an executive suite overlooking the pool and bar area. The room was exceptional, modern and contemporary in finish, bedroom and bathroom spacious. The scene of the property from our balcony presented an area that reminded of scenes of Miami. Very modern and upscale. There is an elevated observation deck above the bar area offering expansive views of the ocean. Right of the view is the famed pier area, popular with snorklers and scuba divers. To the left are views of Dorsch beach, and farther on the left the famed Sandy Point Beach, at times off limits to visitors as the beach is a protected nesting area for sea turtles. On our day of arrival, a cruise ship was anchored at the end of the pier. The pool and hot tub are super modern in design, with vanishing edge borders. There is even a wading pool atop the observation deck, again with vanishing edge borders. Quite impressive. Here is a bit of a downer. On arrival, we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne, and naturally, we hoofed it to the bar for our gift. We found the young bartender remarkably indifferent to our presence, and after grousing that champagne was not available, walked away, only returning to take a wine order after she occupied herself taking personal phone calls. Given the warm reception we had received by Delia, the desk agent, we were surprised. We noticed this particular bartender demonstrated the same attitude with other guests, some walk ins from the street, all who left given the poor welcoming from this bar attendant. Needless to say, we never returned for bar service. One word about beach access. The Fred indeed fronts the beach, but there is very limited beach, with a single row of 3 or 4 umbrellas and lounge chairs, the beach itself uninviting given the rocks that mark the entry to the ocean. We did not utilize the beach amenities during our visit, rather traveling to other beaches along the Frederiksted front. One very disappointing issue of the pool area. While the Fred is a very upscale, pricy hotel, guests that we met were a bit older, some apparently retired, some were residents day visiting the pool area. The music that blared over speakers seemed not a match with the guests. The music was best described as hip hop/rap fusion, more fitting the staff than the guests. While we totally enjoyed the beauty of the property and the very contemporary suite, we probably would not return. We missed not having quality access to the beach, we regretted the attitude of the bartender, and we definitely did not like the choice of music that played every single day of our stay, inescapable even through our closed door, given the turbo volume constantly in play. Sorry.

We did not stay at the Fred, but we did make reservations to dine there on Easter Sunday. We had an ocean front view reserved table at sunset and had a lovely and delicious dinner, my wife still speaks of her lobster that she enjoyed. Based upon our experience, we would definitely return to dine.

I called to inquire about Hobi sailboat rental. The front desk person told me they do not directly rent them but spent a significant amount of time and effort trying to accommodate my inquiry. I was very impressed and thankful that she took her time and effort to help me. The hotel is cute and easy to find, and has a great view of the beautiful coastline and ship pier near by.

My fiancé and I were on a cruise that stopped in St. Croix. We unknowingly started walking in the direction of Fred's and decided to stop in when we heard the DJ at the pool. I'm so glad we did! This place has a fun, lively atmosphere. The DJ was playing great music and we were able to swim in the pool. The Fred provided towels. There is also a cute beach area where they had a couple of paddle boards. For $20, you can rent them which is definitely reasonable. The drinks were strong and the oysters were some of the best I've ever had! The service was great and I have to shout out Jlisa and her puppy, Beams! Such a sweetheart We wish we could have spent more time here! We will definitely stop in again when we're back in St. Croix.

The top deck. Nice little water lounge and chairs. Perfect for the sunset.

Loud at night with locals but it was comfy and clean. After 10:00pm it does get quiet!! Just annoying to have so many locals. They can buy yearly pool passes so you're surrounded by people and not the cleanest.

The Fred has potential. Really needs help with providing freshly prepared seafood. Service is not what it was when Vince was there. Nice people, just not attentive to details. Food is very basic, along with the taste. Too much starch is served. Fresh vegetables were not offered. The snapper was very small, compared to what we have had in the past.

KRYSTAL - Our hostess with the mostess. Without her and her husband the extra curricular activities would not have been possible Tasha (server) and Jenelle (cook) they were super attentive and at our beck and call for whatever we needed. Flo - our morning waitress! She/He (not sure of the pronoun) was so patient with all of us. Scott - bartender. Shots of Baileys in the morning. Chanel - the front office Manager. Whatever we needed she got it. She made sure check in ran smoothly and addressed any concern we had immediately. She walked to each room with us to put pictures on doors and bags in rooms. Neal - The groundskeeper. He made sure tiki torches were lit, umbrellas stayed open and the ground was free and clear of anything that could harm our drunken asses. Emily - Head of housekeeping. She ensured our rooms were kept tidy and even washed Mac and I clothes the last day. For a tiny fee. If you needed extra towels or anything in your room she made it happen. Vince - The restaurant manager. Allowed us to take over the music and essentially let us do whatever we wanted. If anyone isn't mentioned here that impacted your stay be sure to call them out by name. The entire staff was so happy to help us in any way possible. They made several admissions that they've never seen so many people that look like us having good adult fun in one place!

Finally tried the whole snapper with an extra side of roasted garlic mash. Pretty good tonight!

We really enjoyed The Fred. We went for drinks and dinner twice during our stay. Was a great time and really enjoyed the custom drinks. I think you can do a day pass for the pool too. It's very close to the beach and on the water. They have live music at night. In recommend the Mahi Mahi and the Champagne cocktail that's on the menu.

The Fred was a great spot for a drink and appetizers. There's a beach a pool and the bar was fun! Use care in the gift shop if you have younger kids who can read! Lol it's more for grown ups!

The property is tucked away in the hills, surrounded by breathtaking scenery that feels peaceful and untouched. Its secluded location made the beaches feel private--soft sand, clear blue water, and the constant sound of waves crashing. The soothing ocean sounds made nights especially relaxing, while the calm water during the day was perfect for splashing, swimming, and enjoying family time. The resort atmosphere was quiet and clean, making it easy to unwind. Drinks were always perfectly frozen, which was a nice treat in the warm island weather. There's a lounge available throughout the day, as well as a restaurant for dinner, and the lounge also serves casual food if you're in the mood for something lighter. The pizza from the lounge was especially good. Dining at the restaurant offered a nice variety of steak and seafood options. Breakfast was a highlight, with a full buffet available each morning along with made-to-order omelets. Be sure to look closely around the omelet station--there's a little hidden surprise where you can often find French toast or pancakes. We missed it the first couple of days but were glad once we discovered it. For those who enjoy a bit of adventure, a roughly 45-minute hike over the hill is well worth the effort. The trail leads to stunning tidal pools and opens up to a striking black stone beach. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks and the stones rustling underfoot creates an unforgettable, almost magical experience. Overall, Carambola offered a serene, scenic escape that made our Christmas in the Caribbean truly special.

Our flights routed through Atlanta to St. Thomas, as there are no flights to St. John; you get to St. John via ferries from St. Thomas or St. Croix, USVI, or from the British Virgin Islands. The need to route through St. Thomas, coupled with the wonderful visit we enjoyed in 2021, led us to intentionally stay one overnight at the Marriott Frenchman's Cove, and we had a great time and enjoyed one a most beautiful sunset, from the floating mat at the beach. This trip we enjoyed: - an afternoon in the beach, complete with mai tais! - Dinner next door... Luna Mar at the Westin (there is a third Marriott property on the other side of the Westin; two hotels and Frenchman's cove is MVCI) - Morning snorkeling - Breakfast at the pool bar before checking our - Fantastic views from the beach and from our room - Great courtesy by the staff For more about the property, which one of our favorite MVCI properties, the rooms, and more, please see the 2021 review, below. - - - The property - - - Frenchman's Cove is built on a hillside, you arrive at the main desk at a the top of the hill; there are buildings at that level; the other buildings are built lower down the hill, and the property has its own beach. The buildings are colorfully painted, and look great, especially when you're in the water looking back at the shore. - - - The room - - - The rooms are standard MVCI / Marriott Vacation Club rooms: - 2 bedrooms, one king and two full sized beds - 2 bathrooms - Laundry - Kitchens with servings for 8 and all the utensils you need; refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave and coffee machine.. with coffee available; just ask housekeeping for more - Patio table and chairs with a view - Note: if you leave the patio table unattended, you my return to find seagulls arrived and are some of your bacon while you were bringing out the rest of breakfast... :) - nice! Recommendation: bring a Bluetooth speaker for music. - - - The beach & Sunset Cove Bar & Grill - - - This trip we checked and quickly made our way to the beach; the day was sunny and nice and warm but not hot. The resort has a couple large floating mars that are anchored; several adults can lazily get some sun while socializing. We also had a snack at "the pool bar," Sunset Cove Bar & Grill... which offers a good selection of good for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacking in between. We enjoyed: - afternoon snack - hummus and carrots & celery; and very good mai tais - breakfast the next morning We enjoyed laying on the big mats floating in the water... you get a tan and stay wet while enjoying the outside. The night we were there, we enjoyed an absolutely beautiful sunset from the floating mat... so nice! On an early trip someone explained that the Caribbean is just at a position in the ocean where the tides are just not very noticeable; brief internet searches suggest the tide only varies from a few inches to a foot or so... such small changes don't lead to many waves. You'll likely see and enjoy hearing waves "lapping at the shore," but you're not likely to do much body surfing... if you have a boogie board, you'll likely be better off leaving it at home. - - - Thank you, Frenchman's Cove staff! - - - ----- ----- -----

Once we got back they still hadn't had anyone look at it so we suffered one night and got moved to a new room the next morning. The AC goes to 65 but it will only get done to 74 if you are lucky. So be warned. Second) we got late check out for 1pm but we were bombard at 11am over and over again until 1pm. It was ridiculous! Took us twice as long to get out because we had to keep answering the door. Lastly three) me and my mother had a cabana by the spa pool and a spa treatment. These were short treatments but with them you get access to the spa amenities. I was shown the lounge room but nothing else, but my mother who went before me was shown nothing. She didn't even know that it was an option for here to use. These should be shown to everyone. The professionalism there is lacking. Overall the bars and restaurants were great, sometimes you do have to wait but you are on island time so it's not a huge dealbreaker for me at all. Everyone is very nice and friendly even when we needed help. Just keep in mind it is HOT and this may not be worth the price they make you pay.

The resort is easy to get around, beautifully landscaped, and spotless -- from the rooms and grounds to the common areas. The staff couldn't have been nicer -- everyone we met was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. Our room was right by the ocean and just steps from the private beach, which made it feel extra special. The infinity pool was large and never crowded, and the swim-up bar was a fun touch. There were always plenty of lounge chairs available, so we never had to rush out early to grab one. We also appreciated having access to the amenities at the sister property, The Westin, which added even more options during our stay. The bartenders at The Sandbar, Sean and Michael, really stood out -- super friendly, attentive, and just great to talk to. The food there was excellent (we especially loved the pizza and tacos), and the portions were just right. We also used the valet service, which was quick and very helpful with our luggage. Breakfast at Sugarfin was delicious, though a bit pricey -- the $25 French toast was hands-down the best I've ever had, and honestly, I'd order it again. The orange juice, bacon, and sausage were also excellent. We did run into a couple of small issues, but the staff handled them quickly and professionally. One thing to note -- the "king" beds are actually a bit narrower than a standard king (about six inches). Malika from Service Express explained that all rooms have this size to maximize space, and he was kind enough to offer a small resort credit for the inconvenience. We really appreciated how he handled it. The sunsets from the property were absolutely stunning -- some of the best we've ever seen. On our last night, we had dinner at Isla Blue, the fine dining restaurant on-site. Service was excellent, and most of the food was fantastic. I did have an issue with my filet that took a bit of follow-up to get resolved, but once upper management got involved, they handled it very professionally and made things right. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Buoy Haus. It's a beautiful, relaxing resort with a great atmosphere and amazing staff. We'd definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a laid-back, upscale getaway in St. Thomas.

Attendants are very helpful too. Loved the included amenities and accommodations. Options to snorkel, go out on personal sailboats, and other stuff too. We'll definitely come back here again the next time we're in St. Thomas. It's a fantastic alternative to regular cruise excursions.

An absolutely amazing and unforgettable luxury vacation in St. Thomas! The views are simply breathtaking, and the property is immaculate and beautifully maintained. We enjoyed walking through the gardens and landscaping, and the pools are pristine. I especially appreciated the dedicated children's pool, which is perfect for families. The on-site restaurants offer great dining options, and the location is just a short ride into town, making it easy to explore. One of the highlights of our trip was taking excursions on the stunning Lady Lynsey catamaran. I've done both the Maho Bay Snorkel and the Sunset Dinner Sail to St. John--both experiences were incredible and I highly recommend them! The staff is warm, attentive, and truly elevate the experience. We can't wait to return!
