We stayed 9/29 to 10/6 and wanted to love this place. Several things were good, but how management handled a theft complaint is the main reason for my rating. What went well: Check-in was easy and the receptionist was pleasant. Josh at the front desk was awesome, with great knowledge of the island and plenty of helpful tips. We arrived late after travel delays and the restaurant was closing, so they let us take our food to go without the usual fee. Tina at the bar was wonderful. They lent us snorkel gear for free, and the water was a highlight. When our TV stopped working, management and the owners came to fix it. The bioluminescent tour we booked was the best part of the trip. The problem: On Thursday we had our room cleaned while we were at the beach. Our wallets were in a dresser drawer, and I'll own that we didn't use the in-room safe. On Saturday we discovered $600 in cash was missing from one of them. We are certain it was there before the room was cleaned. We told reception right away and management came to the room. We were told this has never happened before. Management did not review the footage until we followed up, and we heard back Sunday afternoon. They told us it showed only us and housekeeping entering the room, and that they had no further steps planned. We weren't offered a goodwill gesture or any follow-up. Whatever the cause, I expected a more engaged response. The beach: The hotel sells day passes to its beach, and even with very few guests in house, the beach was busy every day with pass holders. Posted signs show the pass costs $15, rising to $40 when a cruise ship is docked. Don't count on a quiet beach, even at an adult hotel. Other notes: The "free continental breakfast" was kept behind the counter, with only self-serve coffee out, so we didn't realize we could ask for food. Sunday brunch service was poor, with no drink refills and a long wait to settle up. Takeout from the hotel restaurant carries a 10% upcharge, even for guests. The beds were very firm, and the road in front gets loud with music and tire squealing most evenings around 7. Off-season, most shops in Frederiksted are closed, so plan around bars and restaurants. Bottom line: Lovely water and some genuinely kind staff, but expect crowds at the beach, don't leave cash in the room, and I'd want to see a better process for guest complaints before returning. read more

OUTSTANDING!!!! The court yard pool offers a tranquil private escape, it's beautiful. We inquired as to what kind of fruit trees surround this area and found them to be star fruit, pomegranate, mango amd banana, at which time, the very helpful and nice staff member invited us to help ourselves!!! The individual who checked us in, Josh, is the very definition of hospitality customer service professional. All of the staff was very friendly and professional amd made the stay that much better. read more

The view is amazing with the beach right there and a good view of the sunset. The food was a tad pricey for the quality/what you get. The buffalo sauce was like franks red hot sauce instead of a true buffalo sauce, but the portion of the wings was good for the price. Overall a decent experience and service was good! read more

Sand Castle on the Beach is one of my favorite places in St. Croix. We visit often and always have a great experience. Everything was positive and seamless. When we arrived the host welcomed us graciously and showed us everything while making us feel extremely welcomed. Big shout out to Jonathon. He worked the afternoons at the desk. What a nice person. We saw him out in town and now I understand the real attraction to St. Croix. It's the people. People like Jonathon! The property was affordable and has probably the best beach on the island imo. The only negative which I've seen others complain about as well is the breakfast. A small suggestion would be to eliminate a breakfast all together and just leave out coffee and fruit, or try and improve on it a bit. I won't go into specific examples but some of the choices were not edible. Anyway, there is a popular breakfast spot down the road so there is still a great breakfast option available. This was the most beautiful and amazing place! Don't miss it! The staff were so kind and thoughtful. Everything you need is here. Snorkeling equipment, kayaks, 2 gorgeous pools, plenty of chairs and umbrellas for fun right on the beach that is just steps away. We stayed in a villa in the bed was a little firm for my taste, and my back's taste, So they went out and got a mattress topper! Again, everyone was so kind and helpful. The restaurant had amazing food. Don't miss the scene castle salad with grilled chicken. It was delicious. The location was less than a mile from the Frederickstead pier and shopping with gorgeous views! We were walking along the beach and happened upon Sand Castle on the beach. You have to get a day pass to use the deck chairs. We had a couple of drinks at the bar, which is open to everyone. This is a great place to watch the sunset. They serve dinner and have specials. read more

We arrived and I use a cane and the man that was at the office didn't even welcome us. No smile no warmth he really couldn't have careed less. He didn't tell us much of anything or show us anything except that he wasn't going to help carry luggage because his arm hurt. Supposedly we had the best room although we didn't know we were going to have roommates. Roaches exist but why don't you do a walk through to make sure the ac is on, the tv functions properly, the water pressure in two shower heads doesn't cut out in the middle of two different showers (2 different people). Early in the morning the maids meet right in front of the door to our room and stay there for several minutes talking! But the maids were the only employees who were warm and friendly and they welcomed us!!!!! The continental breakfast was kept inside the little office so you had to ask the person inside the glass windowed office for an apple or a boiled egg. God forbid you take more than one item. The coffee pods were there but not stocked . We didn't travel from far away to not be greeted kindly. The maids were like very and should work on the office. It wouldn't hurt to get a good exterminator and remove the stains on the carpets chairs and so on. Thumbs down for sure. read more

To fully appreciate our experience at Sandcastle On The Beach, you have to understand how our trip began: We originally booked at a resort on the north side of the island using Marriott points. When we arrived there, we were told that the water would be turned off intermittently, and we found that, when we did have water, it was cold. The pool was green and closed for the duration of our stay and there was mold in the bathroom. We then tried to check into a hotel in Frederiksted, but the office was locked up and there was nobody to check us in. Finally, at nearly 10:00 p.m., not really knowing what to do, I called Sandcastle, who I had heard about in passing from somebody I met in a bar earlier in the day. I was pleasantly surprised that the owner answered at that late hour and that, not only did they have rooms, but he offered to SHOW us the available rooms and let us pick the one we liked best. All of the rooms were great, but, for the minor difference in price, we selected the King Villa with the ocean view. It was dark when we checked in, but we could tell we were pretty close to the ocean. Even knowing that, I wasn't prepared for the view that awaited us the next morning. It was breathtaking and we were 10 steps from the beach and probably 20 steps from the water's edge. It is the location you dream about when planning a Caribbean Beach vacation. The room itself included a large living area with sofa bed, a full kitchen, double-sink bathroom with shower, a separate bedroom with king-sized bed, and a back patio with a seating area and an outdoor shower. The suite was well-appointed and well-equipped with a microwave, Keurig, toaster, dishes, plates, mugs, glasses and, of course, all of the things you would expect like towels, soap and shampoo. It's a smaller property but it leaves you wanting nothing. There are two pools, a full restaurant with outstanding food and reasonable prices, a full bar, ample chairs, tables and umbrellas. Everything is very clean and the attention to detail is second to none. The entire property is enveloped in lush and well-maintained tropical landscaping. You are even liable to see an iguana or two wandering about. I was completely blown away by everything that was included. I have stayed at enough beachfront resorts to know that nearly everything but the room is typically extra. Sandcastle included a continental breakfast, beach chairs with covers, towels, umbrellas and tables, as well as snorkeling equipment - all at no charge. That number of included amenities is unheard of, in my experience. All of that said, what really makes Sandcastle special is its people. Chris and Ted, the owners, could not have been more gracious when we were in a desperate situation. They truly saved our trip. We were really questioning our decision to visit St Croix after our initial experiences, and they made our vacation wonderful. They kept checking on us over and over after we moved in to make sure things were going well. They didn't have to do that but that's the kind of people they are. The entire staff bent over backwards to cater to our every need. I travel quite a bit for business and it's been a very long time since I have seen that commitment to service. That only comes from people who truly care about their guests and that is very very rare. Not only would we go back to St Croix, but we would go back just so we could stay at the Sandcastle. It was a trip we will never forget and we are very grateful to Chris, Ted and the entire staff for making that happen. Thank you! read more

We absolutely love it at Sandcastle on the beach! Fell in love with it 12 years ago on our honeymoon and have been returning as often as possible ever since. This was an especially sweet trip, they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and happy with special gifts to make up for the pool being closed. The staff were pretty great overall as usual, and Josh and Brad made us feel especially welcome and taken care of. Josh has an exceptional balance of professionalism and warmth. For my wife's birthday, we wanted to stay overnight one night, as we live on St. Croix. We wanted a nice room, view of the beach, and enjoy the Sand Castle's beachside pool and meals. At $550 per night, we expected first class accommodations and service. First, the original room we selected online was actually a new room that had not been built yet, and we went there to see its location. It actually had no view of the beach, in fact no view of anything besides a concrete wall. So, we upgraded to a room overlooking the water. This room was ok, probably on par with any Motel 6. The king bed was ok, the small couch was poor quality, but the room was clean, air conditioned, and the TV worked. We had lunch and then dinner, and were disappointed that the dinner menu is basically the same as the lunch menu and all the food items appeared to be pre made, likely frozen, and then fried or heated up for us. No fresh fish or other high quality food that you'd expect, mainly fried items with premade sauces. Monday - Friday they have a continental breakfast, and any Motel 6 has a better breakfast. They offered cinnamon raison pastries, that had neither cinnamon or raisons - just a plan dinner roll. To say the breakfast was 'meager' would be an understatement. Sand Castle has a fantastic location, but their food and general attitude from the owner who works the front desk was very disappointing. We complained about the breakfast and he had no sympathy or answers for us. For $300 per night we could let a few things 'go', but for $550, this was very disappointing. read more

Friends, this is a review of our relatively limited experience visiting the resort while walking Dorsch Beach. We did not stay at the resort, but utilized the beach facilities on a day pass. Marjan and I stayed at the Fred boutique hotel during our stay, and as that property did not have the best beach access, we traveled a couple of miles to Dorsch Beach, walking the public access area. As we passed Sand Castle, we noticed that day passes were available, so securing passes from the very friendly office staff, we spent the afternoon at Sand Castle beach facilities. Sand Castle is a contemporary boutique resort, adult only. Walking the property to the office, we were impressed with the verdant plantings, the meandering walkways to different areas of the resort. Marjan even had opportunity to feed the resident iguana, the reptile leisurely walking round the patio and through the tended gardens. There is a restaurant directly overlooking the beach, with full bar facing the seating area. The essence of the property is extremely well maintained, pleasantly designed, with welcoming atmosphere overall. Of the beach proper, this is one of the best swimming beaches we could find...we visited Cane, Rainbow..decent beaches, but completely without food, drink, umbrella, lounger amenities. The beach fronting the resort offers rows of loungers, tables and umbrellas, serviced by waitstaff making rounds from the bar area at the restaurant. The service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. Should one desire, floats, kayaks etc are available for rent. We stood in the calm crystal waters, standing as if in a swimming pool, taking occasion to snorkel. There are no coral reefs on this beach, but rocky structure did reveal fishes of different species, pecking the sand and surface of the rocks, passing singly or in shoals of fishes. We realized that this resort was often frequented by locals, visiting on day pass, cementing the reputation of the resort and beach as one of the better to visit. We did breakfast at the restaurant, sharing delicious lobster benedict and Bloody Mary, while enjoying the ocean view just yards away from our table. The day following, the day of our departure, we returned for light lunch of shared burger and fries, again with the Bloody. The offerings: very enjoyable. The rule here is excellent customer service, welcoming and friendly throughout. So, based on our experience, we rate the beach amenities and the cafe/restaurant overlooking the beach an unqualified 5 stars. We were delighted with this unexpected gem of a discovery. Would we return to Sand Castle? Definitely! We plan a future stay at the resort to take full benefit of all that it has to offer! Enjoy!! read more

We had a large group of eleven people. The waiters greeted us with a warm smile that made us feel at home. Our table was prepared and waiting on us. We were promptly served. Our server recommended some great drinks. We preorder our meals which included some item not on the menu. The orders were accurate and arrived on timely. Visited this month on a Monday as a day trip from our cruise. Got there a bit past nine and signed up for four day passes for my hubby, adult children and myself. Was quick and easy. Everyone we met was SOOOOO helpful and pleasant. Immaculate property. We enjoyed the day on the beach with chairs and umbrellas, has access to bathrooms, changing areas, all included. The pool was lovely as well. Day pass came with your choice of ANY beverage from the drink list - alcoholic or non - some were quite unique! Food was available but we did not eat there - looked yummy though. Highly recommend arriving early as an alternative to a formal excursion from a cruise. Cab from cruise to and from was about 20 buck each way. This is not a wild crazy place but perfectly chill! Hope you visit - was lovely day! read more

We arrived late Saturday for a quick bite. We had the beet salad with a pork chop on the side. The salad was quite generous and more than enough fir the two of us to split. It was tasty, we had blue cheese and their vinegarette dressings on the side. But the huge pork chop was so perfectly cooked and seasoned, it was the best pork chop I've had in years. Juicy throughout, even to the bone. We had three mixed cocktails, all delicious. The service is excellent and the owner welcomed us. Great place. Pros: The place is beautiful. Super clean. The room is spacious with a fridge and microwave. The shower is spectacular. The water comes out with wonderful pressure. The restaurant serves delicious meals. I recommend the White Chocolate bread pudding dessert; it's incredible. As for drinks, I recommend the strawberry daiquiri. Prices are not cheap, but it's worth it in terms of price/quality. Also, worth noting that the waitstaff are very kind and friendly. For smokers, smoking is prohibited everywhere in the hotel. There's a small designated area for it. On the beach, within the hotel's limits, smoking is not allowed anywhere. The beach is gorgeous and very extensive. The water is warm and transparent. There are quite a few rocks on the beach, but absolutely no seaweed. The hotel provides towels for the beach and for the lounge chairs. The hotel's pools are open 24 hours. It's worth going to Christiansted, which has a very nice downtown area, although it's quite expensive. Marijuana is legalized, so everyone smokes openly on the street without any prejudice. The people on the island are very pleasant. Cons: The hotel is a mile away from the "downtown" area. The downtown area consists of 2 blocks and has very few restaurant alternatives. There are 5-6 businesses, which are excessively expensive. For example, a beach dress costs USD 52. The cost of a taxi to Christiansted is USD 40 (1 or more people costs the same). Rainbow Beach is quite unattractive. The water is full of small seaweeds, and it's overcrowded. It has a nice bar adjacent to it. The breakfast was the most surprising thing, as it's just a coffee and you have to ask the front desk person for bread (titti bread or a roll). You can add a slice of cheese or eggs. Alternatively, you can ask for a fruit. In my opinion, the breakfast is not worth it. They could improve the service in that aspect. read more

It's more of an Inn then resort, but that I love about it. Low key, quiet, small beach front. Listed as no children under 16 yet there were several families with small children swimming and using lounge chairs since we've been here because they sell day passes to outsiders not staying here. Listed continental breakfast, which consisted of coffee And green tea and apples, sliced cheese and scones. Their fruit juices were Capri suns. You cannot drink the tap water but you only get a bottle per person of water when you first check in, unless you get up and go to the cafe which opens at 10/11am and buy more. It is beautiful here but what was advertised isn't matching up with what's actually here. The cafe is yummy, friendly staff but The prices don't make sense, 12$ BLT, 14$ for a burger, 19$ for a chicken quesadilla.. my sisters a vegetarian and order veggie Alfredo .. they charged her 35$. The drinks are either served in 16oz glasses at the tables, or if your on the beach or pool, it's 12oz plastic cups but same price. The bartender Were all amazing. No breakfast except Saturday's and sundays, otherwise straigh to lunch starting at 11am. We were told everything is upcharged 2$ to serve on the beach, but then was told that the 2$ charge was included gratuity... no one at the hotel or front desk told us to make reservations for the Fourth of July, as far as eating at the beach side cafe. Mind you there's nowhere else to eat over here in walking distance. So people in the hotel and day passes made reservations and there's no table available for breakfast or dinner, thankfully the staff was able to squeeze us in for breakfast. We're preparing what to do for dinner. The front desk came off a little uptight. It started pouring raining while swimming so we ran back inside from across the street and were immediately and very snippy told to put our masks on while we're soaking wet drying off on the stairs real quick.. mind you the entire downstairs is an open space with no door or walls.. It is beautiful here, well manicured and tropically decorated but some things don't add up. Saint croix is beautiful itself all in all. read more

We got off the Grandeur of the Seas early and grabbed the shuttle. Purchase round trip tickets 2 people $12 to sandcastle resort. To the right facing land with ship behind us. Short drive 5-10 minutes. Greeted at the door by owner and for $10 pp you get a rum punch or bottle water and chairs and umbrella. Nice guy. Very friendly. Clean bathrooms and pool. Buckets of beer and restaurant service available. Beach was excellent. Walkable beach. Clean water. Snorkeling from shore to the left facing the water. Decent. My wife enjoyed the lovely pool after snorkeling. We grabbed the shuttle back. A bit of a line but we were on bus soon. I highly recommend this place. Very little selling stuff. No thanks and a smile works. It's a great way to spend a beach day. I thanked the owner for doing this for cruise ship. He was very gracious. This keeps him in business. Very reasonable. Other places charge exorbitant fee for day passes. This place is wonderful! read more

You know how they say that first impressions are everything? Well, this couldn't have been more accurate for Sand Castle on the Beach! It was simply moments after speaking with the lovely Barbara, at the welcome desk who had given us our room number and key with a smile, that we were whisked away by Ted, one of the owners of the resort. Instantly, we felt at home. With his warmth and cheerful smile, he led us to our room and gave us a complete tour with instructions on how to use the fan, air conditioning and tv. When was the last time you visited a resort and felt like part of the family?? It was breath of fresh air....fresh and gorgeous ocean air!! Our room was extremely clean and welcoming. The accommodations we chose were modest, as we planned on spending little time in our room....Adventure Awaits! There are opportunities at the resort with grand views and more space, but we were completely happy with the room we chose. Upon touring the facility, we immediately felt immersed in the paradise that is St. Croix. This resort is in a perfect location for those who prefer peace and tranquility as opposed to the hustle and bustle of tourist traps. The lovely walkway leads to the crystal blue pool and beachside patio seating. Trust us when we tell you that the sunsets from this location are nothing short of breathtaking!! There was plenty of seating and absolutely no feeling whatsoever of overcrowding. Our fellow vacationers were friendly and simply added to the feeling of happiness...this speaks volumes to the customer service offered here because everyone was having a wonderful time. There is opportunities to rent snorkels and kayaks for no extra charge and we can tell you from personal experience that the snorkeling was nothing short of amazing. The Caribbean blue waters are an instant de-stresser and the sound of ocean waves crashing softly beckon to us even now, as we sit back at home dreaming of our return. We are quite sure that the area simply must have many amazing places to eat, but why tamper with perfection?? We ate every meal at the Beach Side Cafe at Sand Castle on the Beach and sampled a different menu item and exotic drink each time. And don't even get us started on the RUM cake!! Sigh...so good!! We both agree that we had some of the best food we have ever had here. We took plenty of pictures so that we may return in spirit to this our new paradise. We have even been visiting the webcam they have placed to view that beautiful beach and sunset. Chris, Ted and the entire staff were nothing short of amazing and we just can't say enough about our time spent here. We truly appreciated their suggestions for our thirst for exploration and their hospitality during our stay. We dream of our return and will 100% stay here again!! read more

Nice little hidden gem. We got off the cruise ship looking for a peaceful piece of beach with some amenities. Sand Castle was recommended to us by the folks at Polly's on the Pier coffee shop. You want good travel advice - find a local coffee shop and make some inquires. So for $25 you get two chairs on the beach, an umbrella, use if the pool, patio and two rum punches. There is also a full bar and restaurant. Sand Castle is a boutique hotel on the beach. What it is not... Sand Castle is not an over priced loud and obnoxious piece of beech with bad music and rude tourists bantering about. It is a great value and great place to relax. If you are getting of a ship, walk down the pier turn right, stop at Polly's for an iced latte... Then keep going until you find Sand Castle! Eat and Play Local! read more

The best beach ever! Not only is this resort located on a gorgeous stretch of beach, the owners give you much more. Shaded restaurant, a bar that makes great summer drinks. If you aren't staying at the resort, you can use their pool, beach chairs, bathroom facility, shower, and snorkeling equipment for the day.....all for very small fee! The beach at Sand Castle is the place to find sea glass....all along the shore ( No worries, all edges dull from being in water so long.) Bring a water bag to put it in.
