When I need to feel like I'm in Vegas I come here (minus the strip). The bright lights, buffets & hoards of people all under one roof. It's about a 2hour drive from Boston which is pretty decent. A group of us came to Liquid Sundays (12pm-6pm & isn't on Yelp), which is the summer Sunday pool party. Last Sunday it was hosted by Ciara. She seemed pretty personable & took pics with people & signed autographs. We got in line by 10am (you can drink in line) and were in by 12:15pm. My people that usually go said that they've waited in line for 4 hours when it's sunny out, but since it was super cloudy, punctuated with drops of rain; it wasn't as crowded as it would've been on a sunny day. We stayed the entire time (which was kind of long), but had food, drinks and hookah. The food came from Junior's Cheesecake (pretty good & massive burgers- I only ate the fries). Since that was the last pool party of the oddly short summer it was a good way to end it. See you next summer. read more

Stayed at the Fox tower on 9/6. Was provided a corner room on 11th floor. Great view but room was smaller than standard deluxe room. When we entered the room there was strong smell of pot. Also, the smoke detector was covered with plastic cellophane. We spoke to the front desk and they did not have another room available but did offer to remove the odor somehow. We declined as my wife if sensitive to certain smells from air fresheners. The bed was very uncomfortable. We have stayed at the fox many times but this room was not enjoyable at all. Overall the room appeared to be clean except for the smell. read more

Gorgeous theater - comfortable and inviting, good acoustics. Attractive casino resort, much nicer than Foxwoods proper, which looks like a shopping mall designed by a sadistic lunatic with no taste. MGM is an attempt to remedy that, and is rather tasteful (although nowhere near as attractive as Mohegan Sun a few miles away). "Tasteful," however, is NOT the word for the food in their food court - which is the main reason for this review, to warn you away from their hideous, overpriced food, which, due to getting there later than we'd planned (traffic on I-95 can be beastly) we grabbed in a hurry before the show at the theater. We got some awful Chinese and then some really, really bad cake: a cannoli cake which was basically flavorless and overchilled, with mushy soggy crust, and possibly the worst cheesecake I've ever tasted - hard as a rock, also overchilled, gummy, with an off-flavor. Yech! We spent too much on all this crap and ended up tossing most of it. BAD. (Could have kicked myself when we exited and saw that for heaven's sake there was a Juniors there - talk about cheesecake! Oh well, live and learn.) So 4 stars for the theater, 3 for decor, 1 (or fewer!) for the food court = about a 2.5 to 3 overall. read more

Place is nice...rooms comfortable but DO NOT get a lower floor...the night club can be heard and felt past the 4 th floor...after 4 calls to the desk, thinking it was a thoughtless guest blasting music...the last one made at 1:55 am, and 4 hours of noise the person said "oh you are over the nightclub."....real stupid planning on whoever designed the place read more

Ok, it is not MGM's fault that it did not get 5 stars. It is Holiday Inn's fault. Travelling weekly for clients I stay at way too many Holiday Inn Express hotels. And while the MGM rooms are nice, they look just like the new Holiday Inn Express designs. So for the rooms, the design is to close to Holiday Inn Express and I expected so much more. However the good news and why I like MGM is the Front Desk staff is fast, and efficient. They take care of things and make you feel welcome. The Spa is beautiful and the fitness facility has great machines. Plus in a hotel with 30 floors, it seemed as though I never had to wait for an elevator and I was on the 30th floor. The pool is beautiful and the conference facilities might be far from a restroom, however the staff and set up is outstanding. One thing, it is not Vegas. Just having the name MGM would imply certain things and they just do not exist. For instance, the Spa and fitness area close at 9 PM. 9 PM? Why? I hate that. In Vegas you can get a workout or massage at anytime. That I love! Ok, check it out for yourself and watch out for the pigeons at Junior's. They do swoop down and eat your leftovers. ;-) read more

It is concerning to see the reaction of the staff. They apologize but at the same time realize people "are celebrating"? So I guess it's okay that all of those people who called were inconvenienced for hours in the middle of the night? It's okay that we were unable to sleep or rest in a room that we spent $400 for? Apparently, a warning was suffice... yet when the party started up again they still were not removed. The standards of this hotel are beyond ridiculous and shame on them for making myself and the other patrons feel like WE did something wrong for not continuously calling security. Unbelievable. Update: As stated above we did not have an ideal stay, however, I am proud to report that the hotel contacted us and made matters right. They heard our concerns and rectified the situation. Based on their actions it is very possible that we would consider staying there again. read more

I'm not a casino expect at all, but this place has everything you can think of besides the casino itself. Foxwoods has clubs, restaurants, shopping just to name a few, but everything is so expensive and their is no such thing as a sale price here. This place is packed all night long and starts to die down around 2am or so. Very fun time, but not a thing to make a habit out of, especially if your losing money. One of the highlights of this place is that it's beautifully made and you can basically eat of the floors because its so clean. Of course, millions of dollars were put into Foxwoods by people losing their money gambling! read more

The hotel: One of the best hotels I've stayed in (I'm on a tight budget and my mom gets free rooms here). The rooms are always pristine, so you don't have to worry about finding someone else's hair in your bed. Speaking of beds, they are incredibly comfortable...almost more comfortable than my bed at home. The pillows are fabulous, too. I love the bathrooms here. They're modern, and do I dare say it?, sexy. You'll find pretty much everything you need in your room, but if you forgot something vital back home (your toothbrush, for instance) the staff are happy to accomodate. That being said, I'm not sure the place is worth the high price tag (inflated because of the location, of course). If you're like my mom and gamble so much that they offer you a free room, it's quite a nice place to stay. The casino: A big ol' meh. If I could review the casino separately, I'd give it two stars. You're better off walking down the very long hallway to Foxwoods. read more

A little slice of Vegas in Connecticut! I've been to several casinos in the Southern US and in Vegas but this was my first time at a casino resort in the Northeast and I had heard great things about Foxwoods. I was definitely impressed with the MGM Grand, especially in comparison to the other hotels on the Foxwoods property. It was much newer than the other properties at Foxwoods but the gaming area appeared much smaller. The room was absolutely fantastic and enormous. It was a standard suite on the 21st floor although the view of the hills of Connecticut isn't the most exciting. The bathroom was one of the biggest I've seen for a hotel with a full glass shower and an expansive vanity. The furnishings were very modern and appealing. The elevators were a bit odd to me and constantly full of smoky gamblers but I guess that's expected. The gaming area was somewhat smaller than in the adjoining towers but of course if you get bored you can always go next door. The walk to the next tower though is a bit long, but at least fully indoors. The staff is very friendly and the MGM property does a great job of keeping the smoke to minimum with restricted smoking areas and good ventilation. With any casino, you can easily get great rates if you plan the timing right. I wouldn't pay top dollar for a standard suite but if you can get it for under $100/night like I did (I think it was $80), it's a great deal. Didn't try many of the restaurants but I heard most of the lounges were great and the prices are pretty reasonable. The hotel does provide you with a discount book for the property which definitely comes in handy. I would definitely return to the MGM but not sure when I'll be in Connecticut again, SOLID 4 stars! read more

I stayed at MGM Grand not long after it opened at Foxwoods, and I believe this place is definitely a positive addition to the Foxwoods casino resort. This establishment brings Foxwoods a touch of Vegas, and definitely attracted a younger and more exciting crowd to the area. I liked the chic decor, it gave the place a elegant and lively energy, which is a great change from the main Foxwoods casinos. The dining and shopping choices, including Craftsteak, Shrine and the Apple Store, are also a higher notch than what they had to offer in the original Foxwoods. I enjoyed our room a lot as well, the interior possesses a modern clean cut elegance, and itbis quite large. The bathroom and the shower were so good that I showered 3 more times than I needed to. The bed was fluffy and comfortable, with big pillows and thick comforters. An additional plus is that the rates for these rooms are usually really good during the week, when something is cheap, it is always slightly more delicious. i haven't had the chance to visit during a warmer time, so I haven't seen the outdoor pool in action. But I gotta say, they have a nice outdoor area if you needed some fresh air to clear your head after sitting at a table or slot machine for too long. I will definitely stay here instead of any other hotels in Foxwoods whenever I have overnight visits. read more

Arrived at the MGM for a friend's bachelor party a few weeks ago. We played a round of golf in the morning at the Lake of Isles Golf Club down the road. i must admit, I was pretty impressed by the hotel and casino. As soon as we walked in to check in I felt as though we were instantly in Vegas. Large, open area in the foyer, and plenty of employees at the check in area to assist you. Even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon, the wait was no longer than 10 minutes. The rooms were great -- big and very clean. They seemed to be brand new. The bathroom and shower were also spacious and clean. Room service was impeccable and very friendly. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel and resort casino. I'm not much of a gambler, but this was a bachelor party, so I played some Roulette and some Blackjack. Everyone on the floor was very friendly. All in all, everyone had a great time here and I would definitely return. read more

Very underwhelmed here. The first thing that struck me about this place is that people dress like bums. Ok, usually not a problem since I like to be the best dressed one in the crowd, but come on people! Maybe I have seen too many James Bond movies, but honestly I was not expecting Monte Carlo either. The casino itself is good, if you like to gamble. I do not, I prefer to spend my money on tangible things that I can enjoy. So if you are in the area and must go to a casino, go ahead. This place is not worth making a special trip to hang out. I certainly prefer Boston. read more

Stayed here last night with the BF for our joint birthday celebration (mine is 12/02 and his is 12/05...convenient right?!?! hehe). I have stayed at Foxwoods several times, at the Grand Pequot which is nice, but MGM is definitely a step above. We checked in at 2.45pm and were given a room on the 25th floor (out of 30) on the backside of the hotel. The view of the Connecticut woods from our window was absolutely lovely. The room was spotless and the modern decor was very pleasing. It was everything that one would expect from a 4-star hotel with the exception of bathrobes and a soaking tub. The shower-only bathroom was a bit of a disappointment since I love to takes baths and never get to do so at home due to the small size of our tub. The quality/beauty of the materials in the bathroom made up for the lack of tub though as everything was tasteful and elegant without being old-fashioned. Another really cool feature was the safe that they discretely placed in the draw of the right-side bed table. It was very cool to open the draw and have it actually be a front for a drop-in safe (I felt like I was in an old school James Bond movie...definately Connery and not that ghastly Daniel Craig!). Even the hotel stationery was excellent quality cream-coloured postcard-sized cardstock with gold-embossed logos/lettering and matching envelopes. This is something that many people may not pay attention to but I think it shows a quest for perfection. I have stayed at Ritz-Carltons that didn't have stationery as nice. Sometimes it is the small things and attention to detail that make a place memorable. The casino is well decorated and maintained nicely. The ashtrays are glass and the cocktails still come in actual glass stemware which is another almost forgotten practice save for places like the Wynn and the Bellagio in LV. The drink service is quick and the waitresses come by often enough. The pièce de résistance however was the surprise that awaited Li and I when we returned to our room for the evening. Since it was our birthday week, the staff had placed a special plate in the room for us including a piece of chocolate cake, a chocolate covered strawberry and a truffle. It was decorated with a fresh orchid and a white chocolate plaque then expressed 'Happy Birthday" written in milk chocolate. Not only was this above and beyond but it is something that will remain in my mind everytime I return to this property. That is 5-star service. **Beautiful hotel + lively casino + too many free cocktails = not enough money left to spend in the on-property Bvlgari boutique. read more

The Fox Tower - Foxwoods - The thoughtful birthday surprise from the staff at MGM Grand (^_^) - Hotels Near Me - Mashantucket, Connecticut

This isn't a review of the hotel itself, but the music venue. I had the chance to go see the Counting Crows there a couple of months back, and WOW! I've had the chance to see CC many times over the years, always at college campuses and dive bars, and they put on a great show. It was even better at a place as nice as the MGM Grand! What a great venue! There was not a bad seat in the entire place; no matter where you sat, you had a great view of the stage and the sound was fantastic! The prices weren't bad for tickets, especially once I saw how great the seats were. Drink prices were not cheap, but that's normal for any show at any place. Parking was alright; close to the venue, no charge, and a wait to get out after a show; again, typical for almost any place. My only complaint about the show was the curfew they put on the bands, which made them have to cut their sets short. :-( BUT, if CC or any other band I want to see comes around again, I'll definitely buy tickets to go see them in this great venue! read more

Horrible customer service from the Hotel. Came with a group, got two rooms for two night, and reserved a cabana at the pool. We arrived, and one of the rooms was grossly smokey, despite reserving non-smoking rooms. We asked to be moved, only to be told there were no a joining rooms available. Hard to believe in a hotel that size. They came up and "cleaned" the smell. Dan Peterson, the so called manager on duty, was neither friendly nor helpful with respect to our concerns. The next day we checked at the front desk early to be moved. They told us to wait, and were notified mid-day. We had paid quite a bit of money for the cabana at the pool, and instead spent an hour moving our stuff to the new room, only to find out they weren't adjoined, and had to go back down to the lobby again to get new keys etc. The third room had a wet spot on the floor! What a hassle! And not even a genuine apology. read more

Cons: Gambling floor is small very small, there are not many restaurants to begin with but at night all i could find was a Junior Cafe that served sandwiches out of a fridge (not very tasty) Pros: I went on Thursday and in a snow storm so I'm not sure if its always like this but while at the table my drinks just kept coming so that is a huge plus. The hotel room was nice but that is expected at a brand new place. My total experience was really bad I went home and was not very relaxed or happy like I usually m after a casino. Two stars are just for the drinks. I will def be going to Mohegan read more

Foxwoods used to be a great experience for us, but not any longer. For such an expensive room, you would expect everything to be clean and working, but this was not the case. We had a deluxe queen sized room and the room was tiny, the bathroom sliding door didn't lock, the curtains had stains on them, the rollaway bed we ordered had rips and tears all over the frame, the TV was so dusty, and to top it off, we are sure the maid took some items from our room as things were missing after we came back from breakfast! I won't go into any details, but please make sure everything is locked away at this place or it will get stolen! For the positives, I like how there is now a Tanger outlets connected to the hotel. It was very clean and offered a good number of shops. In addition, we booked through the groupon deal, which gave us $15 a day to use on dining along with a reduced rate for the room. This definitely is a great deal and everyone should book through this instead of their main website. It's not worth the full price and barely was worth this Groupon deal. After all this said, we will not be returning to foxwoods in the near future and will be heading over to Mohegan Sun for our next trip. read more

Even when I'm losing money I still managed to feel very well taken care of here. All the Fox Tower girls are so sweet and I hear them put up with so much from other Casino guests. Brenda is my favorite! She always has a smile and remembers my order even if awhile goes by between my visits she still remembers. read more

The rooms here are really nice and the bathroom reminds me of the bathroom of the Borgata. For some reason the room felt smaller to me than most casino hotels. The casino here is small but it has anything you would want to play. I really enjoy Shrine, but I hate that they charge hotel guest to go into the "club" its a bar that plays good music. Waitress service in the casino was really slow took me 30 mins to find a cocktail waitress to be sadly disappointed that drinks were no longer being served.I really wish they didn't stop serving drinks at 1:30, this kind of puts a damper on your night The pool area is nice but there aren't enough waitresses going around. We ended up leaving the pool because the cocktail service was so slow. read more

While my brother and his wife were in line waiting to check in, I went into the casino, kinda small, and mix of new machines and older ones (which I thought looked kinda ugly). Before they had room keys in hand, my $10 magically turned into $300.00 in a $5 slot. Sweet. Very nice/clean room. The bathroom was beautiful, almost as big as their room. Overpriced mini bar and snacks (that were DUSTY!) Plenty of restaurants, shoppes, cafes, etc. in the MGM. There's a gelato stand that's open until 1:30 AM. We ate at Junior's NY-style Deli. It is one of many restaurants available to you, better than the joints you'll find at FW. read more

My boyfriend surprised me with a little getaway this weekend, and we had a fabulous time staying at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. We stayed in one of the suites, which had a beautiful view. What really had me impressed was the bathroom. 1) Because it had a separate room for the toilet, sink and shower/bath. And 2) because the shower/bath was amazing. The tub was big enough for both of us to soak in, and had heated jets. I'm so excited to come back for a weekend during the summer so I can sit by the pool. I should probably start saving up now for that! read more

I am a bit of a stickler, to get 5 stars it MUST BE PERFECT. I would award them 4.95, but alas I could not.The points I will bring up are very picky. We stayed in room 21114 (Producer's Suite) for my wife's birthday celebration for May 18/19, 2013. I sprung for the upgrade, though a bit pricey. Upon entering she loved it. The room is set up beautifully. I ordered flowers from an outside florist and they were in the room when we arrived. Also a box of Godiva chocolates from the concierge. The view is spectacular. The bed was very comfortable. The room temp was 72 upon entering, and was easily adjusted. Again great. Love the separate commode. Now for the picky parts. The facet in the bathroom looks beautiful, but is so high that you will get splashed. The towels are located under the sink. Guess the fact that my wife is 5'10" and I am 6'2", this location is not the most convenient. read more

I keep coming back to this hotel for my birthday. (and not just for the chocolate cake and strawberries!). The front desk staff is friendly, professional and exactly what you expect from the MGM name. The rooms are slightly smaller than the other hotels at Foxwoods (I'm sure to discourage kids from packing the rooms to "party") but comfortable, clean and pretty! At night they have a bouncer at the door to the elevators next to Shrine checking room keys to make sure only the people who are staying at the hotel can go up to the rooms, which is definitely a good idea! read more

I stayed at the MGM Grand for the first time a few nights ago. I was quite pleased... I did not want to leave the bed..it was extremely comfortable..The bedding was very plush and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. Probably one of the best night's sleep I've had in a long time. Loved the modern bathroom, especially the shower. The shower is very spa-like with a glass door..very romantic.. The casino is right outside the elevators..so it is a very convenient walk..if you prefer poker though it is a very long walk to the poker room from MGM Grand. Tips: Don't take anything off the mini bar tray (even if you don't use it)..you will be charged! And try to get a room on one of the upper floors..awesome view! read more

My fiancé and I just stayed here for 2 nights in a regular Deluxe room in the 4th floor. The room was very nice, nice bathroom and very comfortable beds. However the walls were very thin! Arrive Saturday 11/5. Check in was fine snd hotel room was nice. Me and my wife started gambling from 2:30 -6:00 pm. Not one waitress helped us. We lost over $1400 total. And spent another $200 on alcohol. They have one area with a bar that you srink for free when u play. But we played live poker snd roulette. Complete bull****. That we were 20 ft from the bar. Spent (lost )a lot of money and couldn get one drink. Asked several attedants and they said the waitress would come to us. She did as we were ready to leave for dinner. only 1 waitress for the entire casino on a Saturday afternoon. At 8:00 we came back. There were a few waitress working. Service was a lil better. And we were generous on the tips. But Wtf. I cant play and get s free drink from the bar thats 20 feet away. We had to pay while everyone payi g there machines drank for free. Unreal. Had a overnight stay in this hotel and I must say I absolutely love the room.. Very clean an comfortable. Like that the outlets were on site as well and plenty of food options around the hotel. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of smoking in the casino going on. This should really be a smoke free environment . Even the smoke free slots had a lot of ppl smoking. Everyone should not have to be subjected to second hand smoking. There should be a designated smoking room or the non smoking areas should enforce the rules. read more

We have been going to Foxwoods since it opened about 2 decades ago. We love love love it. Since MGM opened a few years ago....this is the spot we go 100%. The rooms are very modern and hip. The bathrooms are very nice...tiled showers with glass doors. There is a coffee maker with coffee. The decor is browns and blues (tealish) and white. The rooms are a quick access from the casino floor. The casino is awesome...very Vegas-like with modern decor. There are tons of great slots. The rest of Foxwoods is huge with every slot you can imagine, but we have no problem playing slots for 10 hours straight on in MGM. Our favs when at Foxwoods (we go about 5-6 times a year)....Shrine at MGM is yummy...have the lobster rangoons and the fried rice and the blushing geisha martini. We also try to bowl at High Rollers which is always fun. For a great meal go to the Paragon restaurant on the top of the Grand Pequot tower...food is yummy and atmosphere is amazing. Cedars steakhouse is always great we love to sit at the bar and have the lobster roll and bisque. Hard Rock Cafe is what it is. The Veranda Cafe near High Rollers is okay for late night bites. California Pizza Kitchen has great small plates. The Scorpian Bar is very cool and great for a drink. Juniors in the MGM is great for breakfast. Oh the spa at MGM the best.....so quiet and relaxing...great 99 dollar sunrise massage.....order lunch at the pool near the spa. We have also stayed at the Grand Pequot about 10 times over the years...always great large clear well-appointed. We have stayed at Great Cedar 3-4 times...not since the remodel...which looks nice. We stayed at Two Trees once or twice but not in years, but it is nice. The reward system is $1 for $1 to use in the resort anywhere and that is great. What can we say we love Foxwoods. read more

"Pitiful" Hard Rock Cafe, loved it. Please be advise, that the evening waitresses can be moody. Waiting for you to checkout, so they can turn the table. Attitude. Ask for Marrisa, what doll. The hotel room looked like it was far older than it is. The NOISE IN THE HALLS UNTIL WELL PAST 3AM WAS RIDICULOUS..... We had a room near the elevators and the club goers (shrine) we're up and down the elevators all night long yelling, laughing and screaming The halls were littered with their trash upon leaving our room in the morning. The music was banging all night long whether it had been because we were above shrine or the partiers next door wasn't sure but that went on until well past 2 am. Trying to get an elevator was hell there are 1 set of 6 elevators to accommodate 28 floors!!! Trying to get an elevator with 2 handicap scooters on 1 was not HAPPENING. We sometime waited in excess of 5 minutes for a elevator. And lastly we booked this room to be close to the fox towers since we were attending a show there and let me tell you if your attending a show in the FOX THEATER do NOT stay in fox towers 3 elevators and 4 sets of directions from security we finally happened upon the theater. Needless to say we were late getting to our show. The theater is NOT NEAR THE FOX TOWER which I clearly stated upon booking (wanted to be close to theater since we were both handicap) So in closing I will never book a room at Fox Towers again. read more

Unfortunately, I am not too impressed--though I must admit that prior reviews had me optimistic on outset. The past 24 hours have been inadequate, at best, and I don't anticipate the next 48 hours to be any more enchanting. Without the Rewards card, complimentary services are nonexistent--even when down $800. We'll see how they do as I register for their "Dream" rewards card--let's hope this doesn't turn into a nightmare! Table games, not too bad. Variety of areas to choose from. I can't fault them for the sparse crowds on a Monday night, but an institution is best judged on its off-night performance. The games were well-organized but no extra attention from management unless you are also loud and obnoxious while spending your money. Seems that way, at least! The staff seemed a bit bored and unenthusiastic, save the late-night-shuttle-personnel! Dining sample was a bit bland, and 2 out of 3 meals featured mistakes at some point in the process. Nothing major, however, I should mention. Today, I have booked their lesser accommodations--Two Trees. For tomorrow night, I haven't decided on the MGM or the Pequot. Casino bathrooms surely brought the average down. As always, I check a random sample of about 3 per day at varying times. I honestly don't wish to go into detail about what I found, but let's just say I've been considering commuting to the bathroom at the gas station I passed on the interstate. Hope the hotel restrooms are nicer. Will find out today and tomorrow. Just an off-day arrival, perhaps? Or host/hostess asleep? I wonder if they monitor online review comments, like the other top-tier venues? I hate to say it, but two stars may be a bit generous, as a 35% is my running estimate via electronic tally at this time. Perhaps not the best way to start out my tour of the 5 largest regional Casino Resort Destinations in the US. So far, I was a bit surprised that not one of the 3 staff-members I interacted with was interested to know that I am a journalist by profession. It's awkward enough to fall through the cracks--never mind having to toss the j-word out there. Worse still, blank stares in exchange. At a AAA 4 Diamond resort, should one even need to venture into that territory?! Will revise and update tomorrow, late, for those who care to check in. Nick N. read more
