The Forge is New York's best kept secret. Located on a quiet side street that's a 5 minute walk to 5 different trains (E, M, R, G, 7), it's a quiet reprise that's paradoxically in the heart of it all. It's less than 10 minutes to Target, T joes, City Acres, six fantastic coffee shops, and countless bubble teas: this is some serious level of connectivity.
So the areas great, but how's the apartment? Five years in, and I still can't imagine living anywhere else.
Rooms 9.5/10: If you see a C unit on the market, jump on it. Because of the buildings nonstandard shape and location you don't really share any walls and have a Manhattan AND Queens view. Guests will be posting your apartment view to their Insta stories cause it's seriously incredible. In addition, we've got real wood floors, sound insulating windows, a full size dishwasher, oven, microwave, stainless steel fridge and MASSIVE amounts of storage. It's not quite a 10 because I'm not a fan of the long and skinny layouts of the D units but personal preference and all that.
Staff 10/10: we've kinda cultivated a little family over here. The doormen Ben, Andy, and Kyle are so professional and so kind. They know who everyone is, where they live, and if they've got packages. My last apartment, Jackson Park had a separate package room with horrible hours and lost packages. It was a nightmare. The doormen here are 24/7 for packages and they'll even send out your prepaid labels for you. They're truly incredible people. In addition, about two years ago they hired on Miriam and it's been a godsend. The place looks better than it ever has. We have tons of events that people actually go to. They're great events too! For Chinese new years she got actual Dragon Dancers and it was incredible to watch. I've been asking for a squat rack since I got here; lo and behold, three months ago I see Miriam, Ali, and Rob leave the gym and I see a shiny new Smith Machine. I've been in a few apartments in three different boroughs. I promise you, you won't find better staff than the Forge.
Amenities 9/10: The pool's for lounging. Too small for laps but as a result, everyone's close together and now there's a little pool community which is super cute. The lounge to occupant ratio is absurd. If you want space you'll get space. The gym is stunning. It's gorgeous. It's got everything you need. Equinox-crowded. Planet fitness- gross machines. Crunch- smells like feet. The rock climbing one in greenpoint next to Mccarren- not bad, actually really like this one. Still our gym beats all of theirs hands down. -1 point for amenity fees. You'll find these everywhere but that doesn't negate the fact they're a dumb hidden fee that's anti-consumer.
My thumbs are getting tired. PM if you've got any questions, and just take the tour if you've got any interest. You won't be disappointed. read more
