Technically it's still Corona, while bordering Elmhurst, and is a really a mega apartment development that turns 60 this year. It was founded by and named after Samuel J LeFrak, a real estate tycoon. Today, it's synonymous as one of the largest apartment developments in NYC and is known as one of the more rougher parts of the borough. Despite its non-neighborhood status, these apartments are home to practically an entire city of people. Thousands of residents call LeFrak City home and given its proximity to Queens Center Mall, the nearby Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, as well as the Rego Center, the bustle and hustle never end. Situated near the E, M, R trains and numerous buses make it a pseudo transportation hub. A number of Queens based celebrities have also called LeFrak City home, such as Kenny Anderson, Kenny Smith, Noreaga aka N.O.R.E., PRodigy, Kool G, Akinyele, just to name a few. To be clear, I've never lived here. I've visited plenty and even thought about purchasing a unit here. I've toured the different buildings, visited quite a few friends in the area, and noticed the following: :: There are numerous supermarkets, businesses, malls, and even a Costco in walking distance. Score. :: Parking right outside of the building is fine for 1 hour. The garages are all underground. :: Security is a bit of a joke. There is a infamous "robot" and a small staff of security individuals that let cars whiz on in with little verification. :: There are a lot of AirBNB units here. Travelers are coming in and out of the building constantly. :: 1-2-3 bedroom apartments are available. Hence single folks and families dominate the living quarters here. :: The surrounding part of Corona is already a little dodgy, but I have felt a tad unsafe during evenings at LeFrak. I have been complaining about my kitchen cabinets for years & until this day they have not done nothing about about it, the drawls are falling apart. as well as the doors. This so called building manager they have .Stephanie... she does not care. all they care for is to get paid and they do not care to do anything for the people that live there. its a dirty place. some of the people that work there are very unprofessional. The rent is to high for the service they provide to their renters. Another update for y'all: My building's management is yet again trying to throw us out again -- for the tenth time. Yes, that's right, tenth time. So check this out: The entire complex has long had an issue with pigeons roosting on terraces. It's so bad, that one time, we had our terrace professionally cleaned and about 45 minutes later, the pigeons were back fouling up our terrace. Lefrak has never done anything to prevent it or even lessen it. We've asked management in person and through email to enclose the terrace, as a permanent solution. They've steadfastly refused. They have two ridiculous solutions: that we should continually clean the terrace -- from the issue they've done nothing about. And if we don't, that they'll take us to court. What this sounds like to me is this: Essentially building management and Lefrak are retaliatory and want to throw us out because they're desperate to get some poor ignorant fool in that will pay $700-$800 more a month to be in a complex that's just above a slum. I grew up here and love my neightbirhood... i was able to get my first 3 bedroom a few days ago for me and my children and after a VERY TOUGH YEAR. they made me feel secure and safe throughout the ENTIRE renting process. I do business in this Elmhurst/Lefrak area. It's pretty urban and I love that I don't even walk one minute before bumping into a store. Everything and I do mean everything is in this area! This review is really about the area LeFrak City is in, more than the apartments because I'm sure folks moving in want a sense of the area right? You're welcome. There's Queens Mall, Queens Center, Rego Center, loads of supermarkets including Aldi, many department stores, a few Starbucks and one gazillion DunkinDs! Restaurants are many and you'd find whatever type of food you're looking for. Sexy lounges, pubs, dive bars. If you don't know now you do. LeFrak/Elmhurst is the 'hood for you. There are several Subway stations but the closest to LeFrak is Woodhaven and 63rd street serviced by the R and M with the E and F on weekends. I've not a regular here later than ten at nights but the few times I was I didn't feel too too worried about being outdoors. Zero stars is not an option. Live a little better than living on the streets should be the slogan. Second year having to wade through sewage water to get to my car parked in poorly maintained garage. I guess I'm lucky that I discovered the citizen app that notified me about flooding that was happening so I was able move my car before the water enter my engine, like it did last year resulting in a total loss. Tips for living a little better in Lefrak...get an app that sends emergency notifications because ABSOLUTELY no one that works for this organization will bat an eye if you lose property, limb or life but somehow are on top of evictions for shady/unscrupulous reasons. Watch where you step anywhere on this property as dog feces and urine can be found outside as well as within the building--valuable lesson for you're kids to learn so they can live a little better too. Basement apartments undoubtedly sustained water damages once again so benefit/loss ratio definitely applies if considering basement living here. When in need of bathroom services because elevators are unreliable at times (none were running today) and parking is virtually impossible, if you don't have a parking space--Target is less than a 5 minute drive away and queens center mall is less than 2 minutes away (you won't get charged for parking at queens center if you're in and out under 7 minutes). While I could continue enumerating the multitudes of survival techniques (eg: showering with poor water flow, frequent water shut offs, where to get parcels delivered so they're not stolen, et al) that I have picked up over the years of trying to live a little better here, I think this small glimpse should give one a sense of what living a little better is like here. Well, it started off mostly well minus the first roach sighting within a few days of moving in...and went downhill from there. PROS: -We do appreciate the back common area for our toddler since she loves the playground, pool, splash pad and tons of space to run around in. -It's close to everything we need within walking distance: QCM, Costco, Rego Center, subway, etc. -maintenance guys are doing best they can and many are friendly -we have a fantastic view of Manhattan (Empire State, Chrysler, The Edge, etc). -swimming pool still costs $10-12 pp CONS: -roaches are a regular thing no matter how much we clean up (I heard other units also have mice/rats; thank goodness we don't) -management posts reminders about a no-pet policy but yet quite a few people walk in with their dogs and no one says a word -dog poop and piss everywhere outside (a couple times inside the buildings and out back, where they say no pets should be) -garbage rooms have bags tossed on the floor or empty fast food containers thrown on the floor with pieces of food out in the open -security guards at front desks do more staring and texting on their phones than anything -anyone can walk into the building from off the street and I mean ANYONE -people steal packages from the lobby and even right from your door -it's on a very busy, loud street -you'll never get a paid parking spot (we've been waiting almost 4 years now) and street parking is stressful to find -lease renewal office is terrible at picking up the phone or calling you back -sometimes water comes out freezing -heat is very weak in the winter -the tub has been peeling for at least 2 years now but they said they won't do anything until whenever we move out -maintenance confirmed we have mold in the bathroom but there's no plan to do anything about it -there's an old creep perv that lives in the Wellington building who will stare at even teen girls and security does nothing about it read more

Worst apartment ever without it being in the projects. My nick name for this place is lefrak "shitty" instead of city, as this word described everything about them: majority of their building staff. An apartment here comes with minor annoying inconveniences galore. The building I live in, Peru, has had many apartments renovated inside. I live inside one of those newly renovated apartments. The appliances are new, and work well. Wall are freshly painted and look clean. But every two months, I can expect to spot a new waterbug friend. In my 1.5 years here, I have spotted 4 waterbugs in total. I'm terrified of them and I can keep count without even trying. On your way down to the laundry room, you will see a rat as it is located in the basement and next to the garbage dumpsters. Other than this I have not witnessed any rodents elsewhere in the building; but this could be because I live in a nicer building. The laundry room itself smells like urine. Kids and teens play with the laundry baskets and sit with their dirty shoes inside the laundry basket that are for everyone's use. Their parents do not even teach them to have some manners, maybe sit in the chairs right in front of them. Don't expect to have an easy trip to your apartment from the building lobby. Many creeps live in this building. They will try to catcall you while you walk to your apartment. No class. No respect. Living in this building, I am terrified of getting hurt or committed a crime against. Crimes are not unknown in and around these buildings. The building staff is extremely rude. They will see people with wheelchairs trying to get through the door and I've seen a guard just sit at his desk and watch until another tenant helped her instead. I locked myself out once and the staff kept telling me that it wasn't my apartment and they couldn't let me in, all for me to find out from another staff member that they had the wrong apartment details, name spelling, everything. The super Mashkur finally let me into the apartment. Mashkur is really nice. Many of the others are clueless and rude. The pool is dirty. There is also a charge to use the pool. The pool has no ambiance, all the people there are so classless, so dirty, they dont mind urinating in the pool. Their advertisement brochure feels like propaganda, because it is all a lie! The inhabitants of Lefrak City are comprised of a few decent people with the majority being indecent. I would never recommend anyone to live here. I will be moving out asap. read more

I first moved into LeFrak City in March of 2017. I will be leaving in February of 2019. I currently live in a three-bedroom apartment on the Horace Harding side. The first year of my tenancy was okay. All of the maintenance requests we submitted were fulfilled within a day or two. The superintendent was helpful and his office was open most of the time. However, after a few months, we started to notice the severe rodent problem that everyone talks about. There were roaches all over the kitchen, and a few in the bathroom. There were a few mice too. At one point, I caught two within minutes of each other. Maintenance came to seal up any holes in the apartment and gave us more glue traps but it didn't really help too much. In March of 2018, they increased my rent by about $260 dollars. It was an acceptable increase, and didn't affect us too much. But from March to present, the conditions and service of the building got significantly worse. The presence of roaches increased dramatically. I left a glue trap out for a couple of days and it got filled with roaches of different sizes. In addition to that, we must have caught 10+ mice this year. During the past few months, I was forced to sleep with a towel under my door to prevent any vermin from entering my room. It's disgusting. The maintenance service also decreased in quality. It took them a month to send someone to our apartment to put a piece of plastic over my roommate's AC. Our microwave has been broken since August, and I cannot get a simple call back from our new superintendent who I have spoken to countless times. Now that my lease is coming to an end once again, they have the nerve to want to increase our rent by almost $500 for next year. That is absolutely preposterous considering all the conditions I just mentioned. They want us to pay Williamsburg/Long Island City prices for a building that needs so many improvements. A three-bedroom there is not worth any more than $2500 a month, and that is even a little generous if you ask me. All in all, do not live here unless you get a stellar deal and are willing to put up with sub-par living conditions. read more

Let me start off by saying I live in a different state. My mother lived at this complex for over 40+ years she passed and I was advised by the property manager if I submitted all necessary paperwork that they would mail free of charge a total of three boxes to me of my mothers, personal belongings I did as I requested and as of today I have not received the three boxes I've called and call my calls are being ignored and no response is given. I've also spoken to her assistant, who advised that she would follow up and that has not been done. I'm not saying this place is not a good place to live, but I am saying they are not professional they do not follow up via email or via phone. I take this matter very personally, and I'm saying that they are not to be trusted or they will pick and choose who they will follow through with and not. The door to my building has been broken for at least 2 weeks. The door is currently being closed by two trash cans tied together to keep the door closed. One garbage can has trash in it. Facilities are in good condition however the service is not good. Pests are a big problem. Few weeks ago I reported a dead rat outside the elevator, the next day, I went out in the morning and the dead rat was still there. When you try to call the Residential customer care number sends you to VM and managers are almost always unavailable or break or they just "stepped out". Security by the main entrance is nice and welcoming but if you report an issue over the phone they say they will send someone but that's it, never a follow up. read more

This is the WORST building ever. I moved in my apt and it was COMPLETLY INFESTED - I mean roaches walking on my coach, chairs, tables!! Not only did they promise to move me and then ended up having me stuck there 2 years now they are suing me for rent - having me develop PTSD from living in roaches! I had no use of my kitchen for 2 years - I stopped buying furniture and what I got I didnt build. THIS WAS A LIVING HELL and now they took my things to storage with the judged permission! The water has been off all day without any notification until mid-day (1:30 PM). The water came back on at 6:45 PM. Right now (as I am writing this post) it's 11:53 PM & the water has looked like this (see picture). It has been running for an hour & it still does not clear up. I called maintenance, only to be rerouted to a VERY rude female security officer. She answered the phone saying, "what do you want?! Talk! Talk!" I told her about the issue with the water & she said it's not her problem & I need to call back tomorrow. I called 311 & filed a complaint. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!
