The Folly in Oxford sits right on the River and cocktail cruises leave from the wharf.

The food was very delicious, and it looked great with all of the textures and flavors - and I would love to know what all those things are? The chef goes through a great deal of work to create this visual experience, then the wait just PLOPS the plate in front of you and walks away. Beautiful croquets, tasty sauces, wonderful crunches - great job by the kitchen. I would recommend the 40-minute 'cocktail cruise' up the River - informal and a great look at the River - but the restaurant needs to work with staff so they know they're serving to the diners. We were celebrating our anniversary, and it was still a nice experience for dinner. I just wish the staff would focus more on explaining the plates and the food, because it can be a real fashionable establishment, if the restaurant can overcome that hurdle. My other suggestion? Have one of your chefs periodically come out to the front of house and chat for a moment or two with a large party or if there is a six person table that is dropping a lot of money. These little things can make a big difference to somebody who is spending a few hundred dollars for dinner.

This was a great experience from beginning to end. Wonderful food in a beautiful location with really friendly and helpful staff. Fun to watch the boats coming and going on the river whilst enjoying our meal.

We tried this restaurant for our friend's birthday. It's a very cozy, bubbly place. It's next to the river so the view is great in the evening. Service was warm and quick. We did wait a long time to our food though. However, considering the fact that we do have a 12 people group, it is understandable. The potato soup and ceviche is good. I am actually very impressed with their potation soup. Ceviche, I would give a 3 out of 5. The steak is ok. They didn't specify what kinds of steak on the menu. Overall good restaurant, will definitely return.

Well, the table immediately knocked about 3 stars off the table, but thankfully they did move us to a different table after we complained (which was good because the food we ordered did not fit on our table and we had to monopolize the next one, which they evidently didn't need, so the whole "Sorry, the restaurant is fully booked" argument is moot). There also seemed to be a recurring theme in Oxford restaurants- people were working totally flat out and they need at least 1 if not 2 extra wait staff. Our guy was polite enough, and definitely trying hard to be a good host- though we suspect that he was extremely worried about not being tipped after the table fiasco. Anyways, onto the food. The Oysters were very good and the mix grill was perfectly fine. The Lobster was very firm in the way that I suspect it might have been frozen (In a SEAFOOD specialist?!?) and well the prawns- tesco's won hands down. As the restaurant was popular with families and had a high ceiling; it was extremely echo-y and we left slightly traumatised with our seafood experience. Drool Monster enjoyed his chocolate ice cream very much though.

Food was ok-ish, but was annoyed that I had been served a dry thin tail end of halibut, should've sent it back but I was hungry, service also took a while considering a near empty restaurant. We finished with banoffee pie & cranachan, which wasn't anything spectacular....kinda wished I ordered the 3 course lunch set menu which looked good value at £12, I left feeling slightly indifferent about the food & experience, I guess that's the problem with chains, consistency....Loch not so Fyne.

Thank you, Europe, for lovin' the kids. They readily accommodated her creamy tomato sauce spaghetti request (wasn't on the menu). I wasn't super impressed with the pastas or pizzas, but the salads damn near broke my mauf. Fresh and simple, and quite honestly BANGIN'. Italians make the best salads. Don't you ever forget it. I enjoyed a slice of tiramisu for dessert and let me tell you, someone stole grandma's recipe. It was packed with espresso, cocoa, creamy whipped cream, just all things EPIC to put it simply. I'd recommend dropping in for vino, the salads, and tiramisu or the chocolate cake, which my husband enjoyed.

We got (forgot the actual names) - garlic cheese bread: gooey stringy cheese on top the softest chewiest bread! - baked penne: my hubby said it was amazing - spicy mushroom spaghetti in cream sauce: never had spaghetti that tasted like this before! Sauce was made fresh with chili peppers in it. Creamy with lots of flavors. So yummy! Service was warm and friendly. We were hosted like friends. Decor was nice: traditional and humble. The front door is interesting an has an interesting history with the building dating back to 1637. I was greeted when I walked upstairs and given a menu. I ordered Veggie Spring Rolls (Popia Tod), the Tom Ka with chicken and Pad See-Ew Noodles with chicken. It didn't take long to get my order and it was all still hot when I arrived back at my hotel. They also wrap it all quite tight so nothing spills out. The Spring Rolls weren't what I was expecting. I thought they were going to be fresh spring rolls but they are fried; it does say on the menu but I didn't read that part. It came with a plum sauce but would have been nicer with some hot mustard. Unfortunately, they do not do fresh spring rolls. The Tom Ka soup was quite good. It's a bit heavier than most Tom Ka soups I've had and I would have preferred it to be a bit spicy. The Pad See-Ew was fantastic. They serve a very generous portion and it's just delicious! And like the soup, it would be nice if it was a little spicy. I'm sure they can make it spicy if you ask them and I wish I would have asked. The food is very fresh and delicious and I would absolutely come back here.
