I had helped with a Baby Shower recently and was entrusted to pick up the Cale. The staff was so helpful and this tier cake was both beautiful and delicious! Top layer, was white cake with strawberry filling and the bottom was chocolate with raspberry filling. The staff even helped to load the cake! I want to celebrate again just to have more cake! Quick stop after a ride on the Enola Low-grade trail. I wasn't sure Columbia had any bakeries, but what a find! It's a little bit off the beaten path from the center of town, but it has a neat, cheerful feel to it. The owner was very amiable and helpful as we chatted about Columbia. As for the foodstuffs, a macaroon, a butterscotch-pecan scone, a chocolate chip cookie and a strawberry muffin all passed our taste tests with flying colors. Coffee was decent, and the cookie dough cupcakes still sit in the car, untested. Prices for the above was about $12. Lots more stared at us from behind the diaplay, yearning for our attention. They were very accommodating as our date changed (actually a few times!!), but they were with us every step of the way. The cake was absolutely delicious, and the staff at Flour Child worked very well with our florist as we wanted fresh flowers on our cake. The Flour Child did our wedding cake and our rehearsal dinner cake. The rehearsal cake looked great but tasted awful. The wedding cake looked bad and only tasted mediocre. The wedding cake was lumpy and uneven. The decoration looked half-assed (like it was done at the last minute). I was seriously unhappy with the results. Want proof that it wasn't good? Working with the owner, Alixe was extremely easy and fun from the beginning. My wife and I started on the user friendly website to schedule our consultation/tasting. I couldn't help but smile the day I walked in to the bakery because the atmosphere inspires warmth and cheer. With no vision of design or flavor I quickly apologized for my lack of bridal skills. Alixe laughed unfazed, assured me that I was in great hands, and jumped right in prepared with photos and sketches of cake options. In 10 quick minutes she has walked us through designing the perfect cake for our special day. The hardest part was choosing flavors because everything that we tried was incredible! She said that she would create an invoice and it was emailed quickly. Closer to the wedding I called the shop to let her know that I had found a cake topper. She greeted me with genuine elation about our wedding plans and again put a smile on my face with her warm demeanor. She coordinated with our reception hall to place the cake and everything looked lovely on my wedding day. Often something is lost with vendors and they seem to forget that you're celebrating something special.
