The first time I booked, we showed up and doors were locked. Scheduling mishap. The second time I booked, the owner called and canceled day of due to heating issues. The third time I booked, was a charm, we floated! This was my first float so I was excited to try it. I enjoyed the experience of floating, after a while, I was able to get into a meditative state. Yay, relaxation. The Flo (the business) could use a little tlc - some small attention to detail would go a long way. Some examples: we were instructed to put in ear plugs for the float, my room was out. We were instructed to shower before, my shower was out of body wash and so low on shampoo and conditioner, none came out when I pressed the button. We were provided one towel that was thin and looked like it had been used (super wrinkly). The floor was covered in salt stains and no mats were provided so the floor was slippery and wet and hard to really dry your feet before getting clothed. I know, I know, wrinkled towels don't really make or break a float but it did make me wonder how well the tanks are maintained for cleanliness if such little attention is given to smaller obvious concerns. I found myself worrying about the cleanliness of the tanks while I was floating and that interrupted my "flow". We all know that "ahhh" relaxing and comforting feeling of walking into a spotless, comfortable space and that's what is missing at the Flo and why I will float again but at a difference spa. read more

When I showed up for my confirmed float during regular business hours, the shop was locked. The TV was on inside and so were the lights. I stood around for a while waiting to see an employee. No luck. I tried opening the door again. Nope. Definitely locked. So I walked around for a while to see if maybe an employee was in the restroom. I gave it time, returned, and the door was still locked. I called the shop. No one answered. I left a message asking to reschedule. No one ever returned my call. I've floated here multiple times in the past and always enjoyed my experience, but this left a bad taste in my mouth. I will not be returning or recommending this business any longer. read more

I've come here a bunch of times for floats now and enjoy it more and more each time. The guy who is usually working (I'm blanking on his name right now) is so kind and friendly. He is always so helpful in explaining things when I have questions about their drink offerings. I love trying their kombuchas and plan on getting a growler next time. The lavender lemonade they have from Snowy Owl kombucha is delicious. They have made several improvements since I started floating here and I hope to see that continue. I'd like to see mirrors in the float rooms (so you can do your hair after getting out of the shower). It would also be great if the room temp was slightly warmer so you're not so cold wandering from the shower to the tank and back. The showers are not my favorite because it's extremely hard to wash your hair as a woman with an overhead shower like they have. I wish they were angled shower heads like most showers are because I always have to go home and rewash my hair afterwards due to this awkward setup. read more

Yesterday I did my first ever float session and it was quite the experience. I ended up buying a groupon because I was interested in seeing if this would help me relax a bit. My brain is pretty much doing 2250mph at all times and I've heard good things about float tanks. I showed up for my appointment and the gentleman working was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and explained the entire process in great detail. Once I was alone the process began you are supposed to rinse off and take shower before you actually get in the tank. Once done it's time to get into the tank and it was quite the experience. The tank itself is pitch black and basically gives you a sense of nowhere. I floated for a while before coming to the realization that even though I could see the positive from the experience, it was not for me. This experience is probably very blissful for people who find relaxation in laying down and relaxing. However, it personally made me extra anxious and I was not a fan of the experience, however, this facility was super clean, the staff was both friendly and knowledgeable, and I definitely see the appeal to this. I would definitely recommend giving this a shot, it may just be the ultimate form of relaxation you've been looking for. read more

I LOVE this place. I had my second float this morning. It felt so good that I lost track of time. Matthew is a wonderful, kind, and intelligent soul. He takes time with and listens carefully to each and every customer. The shop is beautiful with a variety of incense, crystals, and other rare items. Each float room has a shower to rinse off and wash before your float. They provide towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, earplugs, tissues, and a foam pillow, (if wanted). The tanks are roomy and self-cleaning. I noticed that Matthew uses a lot more salt than other float spas. He told me that his tanks are saltier than the Dead Sea! The salt soak makes my skin and hair feel so soft. It's a great place for meditation and alleviating stress. Matthew also encourages you to take your time showering afterwards, which I found very nice. If I had the money, I would visit a couple times a week! Thank you for everything Matthew. Had my first float session over the holidays and definitely enjoyed it! It's quite an experience, not for the claustrophobic -- but I recommend it. I arrived and was shown to my room, which had the float tank and a shower. After a quick shower, I was instructed not to touch my eyes after getting into the float tank due to the high salt content. I heeded the warning and entered the tank, to float in complete darkness in a small-ish tank. The experience was interesting. It was a bit humid, but after a little while I was able to get comfortable. At one point, my neck was feeling a bit stiff so I sat up. Big mistake. The salt water got all over my face and started stinging! I wanted to leave the chamber but couldn't find the way out because I was a little disoriented. The door I tried to open didn't open. I thought I was stuck and the chamber wouldn't open until my time was up. Or would it open at all? ........but I actually just didn't open the right door. I decided to surrender to the salt on my face and was able to relax. It was a good experience of one-hour of "me-time." After the session, I took a quick shower and was outta there. I had my first float session last week when I was in Buffalo for the holidays. My friend bought float sessions for he and I although after some confusion with the scheduling, I had to go by myself. I did my research and reviewed the website to try to understand what exactly flotation therapy entailed but honestly, you just have to go and experience it because I am still having difficulty describing the experience to friends and family. I arrived on a snowy day at noon and was greeted by a gentleman working the counter. I asked to use the restroom only to discover they were out of toilet paper at which point the employee literally walked across the street to the Allentown Convenience Store to purchase more. Anyways, after the tank cycled the water in its cleaning process, I was brought to the front tank (there are two at The Flo) and instructed to shower to rinse any product off the body, put petroleum jelly on any open cuts (due to the high salt content of the water), and to utilize the ear plugs. It was nice the shower area was in the same room as the tank but I definitely agree - there needs to be some kind of anti-slip mat on the floor. Also, it was unfortunate the shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the shower was empty. From the shower I went into the tank to begin my flotation therapy. This is a desensitization tank and with that it was completely dark, quiet, odorless, and empty with the exception of myself and the water. I can't lie, I initially freaked out but told myself I had to stay in the tank and try to relax. I am an anxious person by nature and had to accept the fact time was no longer a concern. In fact, I couldn't have been concerned about anything. I was literally forced to relax for 90 straight minutes. The only other time that happens is when I'm getting a massage and even then it's usually only 60 minutes. While in the flotation tank I fell asleep for a little while and/or was utterly relaxed. At one point I thought I was setting random colors and imaging conversations. The only time I heard real noises was when employees or other customers were walking past the room with my tank in it as the vibrations can be heard in the water. When my time expired, the employee knocked on the outside wall of the tank three times at which point I had to knock back three times. The time was enjoyable and I was happy to be able to shower again to get the salt off me. Luckily I brought my own travel sized shampoo and conditioner. I wish there were two towels or just a bigger one to dry off with. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom which was helpful for going back out in snowy conditions. I think if I had a Groupon or similar deal I would try Flo again. I feel like the more you do flotation therapy, the more relaxing it is. Despite the initial scheduling mix up, the staff was friendly and accommodating. There needs to be a mat in the float rooms before someone slips and falls and shampoo containers need to be refilled. Otherwise everything tank related appeared clean and well maintained. I didn't stick around to see what products were in the front room/waiting area but maybe I'll stop in next time I'm in town. My four thoughtful daughters gave me a GroupOn for five flotation sessions at The Flo on Allen Street for my 65th birthday. I've been wanting to try this sensory deprivation technique for quite a while. My first session a few weeks back came with some apprehension, however Matt was very good at walking me through the process and putting my mind at ease. The other day I went for my second session. Knowing what to expect, it was even better than the first! There's nothing like an hour of complete relaxation after a long workweek to start the weekend. I see others who have rated The Flo bring up some valid issues such as floor mats, mirrors, warmer room temperatures, etc., but I guess I'm pretty easy to please...and as a result, I'll rate The Flo a maximum 5 starts, and look forward to my next session. read more

There are a few float places to chose form, and I have been only to 3 places. Each has it's own strengths. This place was the only place where I experienced an 'out of body' kind of experience, where my mind floated away form me briefly. I think it's more to do with the fact that I got a 90 min float instead of my usual 60. This place is a bit for funky and a bit more 'hippie' than some other places which are more 'spa-like' but this is a great place for a float. Their tanks are much darker than other places. When you shut the door, it is BLACK. Other places, it's dark but it takes a while to get used to it (unless you opt for a 'pod' at other places). I felt this enclosure was smaller than other places, so I was slightly less comfortable if I moved around. But when I was still it was fine (I am 5'8 for reference). It was 'skinnier' and 'shorter' than other float places I have been to, so if you are a very tall person, I would call them and check the dimensions. The staff was knowledgeable and informative but not pushy, which is a good balance. Overall I had a great float and will come back. read more

I have done flo tanks in other locations before but this was a lovely experience. I organized a flo tank session for my man and I because he is under high stress at work. The employees (maybe owners) we kind, informative, and welcoming. They were also very down to earth. The tanks are large and square and were everything I expected given my previous experience. My man friend was extremely happy with his experience and his ability to relax and enter a meditative state. The owner was very good at communicating with me via text. Will def go to this location again. The place smells like Nag Champa... which is always welcomed. read more

I came with such high hopes! I read the other reviews and was expecting great service and a wonderful experience. I left feeling slightly relaxed, but even more annoyed. I arrived for my session 10 minutes early as requested. Instead of being given a waiver and a survey to fill out, and a tour, and an explanation..... I was pretty much ignored for 10 minutes. I was then told to use the restroom and brought to my room where I was told to put my stuff on the counter so it wouldn't get wet, leave my shoes and socks outside the room (for the same reason) and to get undressed, take a quick shower, put in ear plugs, put vaseline on any cuts or scrapes, get into the tank, and stay there until I hear three knocks on the wall so I would know that my time was done. I did as I was told. Upon lowering myself into the tank I realized that it was a bit cooler than I thought it would be..... not at all cold, but noticeably cooler than the 98.6 body temperature that I was expecting. It was totally dark. The sound, however, was not totally muffled. Even with the chamber sealed and the door closed and my ear plugs in I was able to hear footsteps and voices outside of the room. At first I thought there was absolutely no way that I was going to be able to tolerate an entire 90 minutes in the tank. I am a very hyper person. The water wasn't warm enough. I heard those darn footsteps. I breathed deeply and tried to relax as I enjoyed the sensation of floating in the heavily epsom salted water. I splashed around a bit... moved my arms up and down.... wiggled up and down and left and right within the tank. I was thinking of calling it quits, when finally the water heater came on and I felt a little more comfortable, relaxed, and (I think) fell asleep. I don't know how long I was out, but I came to a bit chilled again. I floated and wiggled and then I heard the three knocks so I knew my time was over. I pulled myself out of the tank and made my way carefully (the floor was very slippery and there was no bath mat) to the shower which had some lovely smelling shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (apricot, I think). I then attempted to dry off with the smallest and most thread bare towel imaginable. I left the room.... and then was ignored as I put on my socks and shoes and jacket. I mean not even a "how was it?" or a sales pitch for products and further sessions. Disappointing on many levels! Way over priced! But, I was a bit relaxed, my skin felt nice and soft, and my hair smelled fantastic. I will not be back. read more

After a stressful week and wanting to try flotation therapy, my boyfriend and I decided to try out the Flo. We booked our appointments online and luckily we able to get 2-90 minute apinments at the same time (there are only 2 rooms available). They email you a confirmation and a reminder which is nice. They had a deal going for 1st timers ($10 off) which was applied to our bill. We showed up to Flo about 10minutes early (which they recommend). You enter and it's very simple and nicely decorated. We signed a waiver and a survey and we were quickly escorted to our rooms. She walked us to the front room and explained what we were about to do. Each room had stand up shower (w/shampoo, conditioner, soap) a small table with earplugs, petroleum jelly (for cuts or scrapes) and some q-tips. The room had a remote control for color therapy for when you get out of the actual tank. Room 1's tank is slightly smaller than Room 2 (by a foot), and my boyfriend let me take room 2 (because he knew I was slightly nervous about being claustrophobic). So, show time. I went in room 2 took a quick shower and got in the tank. I got situated into the water (a nice 95 degrees), I laid with my hands over my head in the pitch darkness and floated away my worries. Before I started I wasn't sure if I could do 90 minutes, but let me tell you, it went by so quick. It was so peaceful and easy to meditate. The only sounds I head were my stomach making the occasional gurgle. After 90 minutes the staff come and gently knock on the tank (from the outside) and you knock back so they know you heard them. I got out and felt completely refreshed. I took a quick shower to rinse the salt off (I missed most of it though, oh well) and met my boyfriend in the front of the store. We looked at some of the items they offered and chit chatted with the staff for a couple of minutes. This is a great addition to our neighborhood and we will definitely be back. They offer packages for both the 60 & 90 minutes, I'm totally going to grab a 90 minute package, so worth it. The only thing, which I can't vouch for, was that my boyfriend said during his float he did hear some noise from the front room, which didn't ruin it, but made it harder to completely "float away". This is going to be a part of my monthly routine no, I can't wait to hop back in the tank!! read more

I was really excited to try my first float, and my experience validated my excitement. I had stopped in the previous week to purchase a gift certificate, and the staff was really welcoming and helpful, giving me a full tour and insight into the therapy. We had an early morning float (10 am) and were given a quick rundown of what to do as well as a few tips. After getting myself situated, I found the therapy to be very relaxing and pain relieving - especially in my upper back/neck/shoulder area (I work at a computer for my 9-5 and tend to have poor posture due to that). I did mentally "float" as well, but I was brought out of that state by some loud banging that I could hear very clearly when in the tank. This was one of the main reasons for the 4 stars as opposed to 5 - some rugs or sound dampening material would be really helpful to be truly sensory depriving as there were those loud bangs, footsteps, etc. that took away from the overall experience. I felt very refreshed and almost energized when getting out of the tank and thoroughly enjoyed the very clean facility. One suggestion would be to put down a bath mat for exiting the tank/shower for those accident-prone individuals like myself - I definitely did have to pay A LOT of attention to walk carefully as to not slip. Overall, this was a great experience that I would love to try again. I wasn't told how often we should float to obtain the maximum benefits, but I suppose I'll do some research on my own for that. The center also houses an herbologist/iridologist and has some products for sale for overall health and wellness. Since it is a wellness center I was surprised to see cigarettes out on the counter, but to each their own. Definitely looking forward to coming back! read more

We just checked this place out and we weren't disappointed! I had heard about these tanks for years and I was super excited we finally had some in town. They were super friendly and explained everything to you before you got in. Each tank room is inside a private room that has a shower and the tank- very private and spacious. You can even adjust the color of the room lights for ambiance. A few tips that weren't mentioned on their website: 1. Don't touch your eyes or splash the water in them! The water is incredibly salty and it'll burn. 2. You'll be showering afterward, so if you're going somewhere else, bring your hair brush, make up, deodorant, etc. They provide shampoo, soap, and conditioner, but you may want your own. 3. It might seem claustrophobic but it's not at all. You can feel the walls of the tank if you stretch your arms out, and you can leave the door open a crack for some light (otherwise it's pitch black). 4. Use the Vaseline if you have even the slightest cut anywhere- it'll burn! I put it on my hands because my skin is so dry and it still burned a little at first. 5. You're not trapped in the tank. If you need to get out, you can! There's no bathroom in your room, it's down the hall so go beforehand, but you can get out for whatever you need. I would definitely return! I floated for the first time a few weeks ago. and it was awesome. My boyfriend and I booked both rooms for a 6pm appointment. They advise you to be 10 minutes early so you have time to get situated, howver, we were running a few minutes behind since we struggled to find parking. Once we got in, we were greeted by a dude chilling at the desk with a sick xbox setup, and then we were given the run-down. Other reviewers have said they signed a waiver, but we didn't know that was a thing, and we didn't end up signing one. Said dude showed us to our rooms, told us to pop in some ear plugs, shower briefly, and cover any cuts/scrapes with the provided vaseline before entering the tank. The air in the tank felt muggy, but the water felt perfect. Literally skin-temperature. And then, you just float. Since this WAS my first time, I was a little antsy, and I kept sort of moving and bumping into the walls of the tank which threw off my groove a little bit, but all in all, it as a good experience. And I've heard that it gets easier and easier to fall into that zen float state I keep hearing about the more you do it. So, I'm definitely coming back soon. read more

After reading all the reviews and friends saying what a great place this was, I thought I'd give it a try. I have herniated disks in my back and was in severe pain the night before, so I figured it was worth $60 to try something new. Online I read that you should arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. So seeing as my appointment was at 10:00, I arrived at 9:45. No one was there so I took a seat outside on the steps and waited. I waited till 10:00 before i decided to call the shop to see if maybe they were running late, or I had a mixup with my appoinment being scheduled online. No answer, so i kept calling a few more times. I went on the Facebook page and messaged them because now it's 10:20 and I made the appointment so that I could make a meeting with my boss in time after going in the tank and getting ready in time. I drcided to go sit in my car and finally after 10:30, I see a girl walking towards The Flo who looked like she would work there. I go back to the spa and I was right, the girl was leaving to go somewhere and I stopped her just in time. She claimed she didn't check the appointments online and didn't see there was a 10:00. That fine, but now I'm beyond stressed about being late for my meeting. She takes me in and literally tells me all these instructions in 2 minutes. I was confused by all of it, seeing as this was my first time floating. Anyway I rub the Vaseline stuff all over my face because I just had a facial and anywhere I shaved in the past 3 days, which is a lot of places. The tank was awesome. I started floating immediatley. The only problem was I couldn't relax, because I kept thinking about the time, and if I was gonna be able to meet my boss. So I never relaxed at all. The ear plugs they give you are the worst, I tried to push one of mine in and then it just rushed a ton of salt into my ear and the burning started. For an hour and a half. So bring your own ear plugs! The itching and tiny bumps then started all over my body, I still have tiny bumps from a month ago that must have been a reaction to the salt. My back pain was excruciating while I was in there, and I couldn't wait to know when I could get out. The whole experience was just not relaxing or enjoyable at all. Finally she knocks on the door, and I'm try to find where the frickin door was because I had no clue what side of the tank the knocking came from. I almost felt like I was never gonna find my way out. Anyway, I finally get out and almost fall on the wet floor, they really should put a mat down or something, its not safe. I get to the shower and there are no wash clothes, so I'm trying to wash off all this Vaseline with nothing but my hands. Let's just say, I was covered in vaseline in places I didn't want to be, for the better part of the day. I had to rush to get ready, and because the floor is soaked I had to wrap myself in the towel and go find out where the bathroom is, which is all the way down the hall where anyone waiting can see you. Either way, I finish getting ready and end up talking to the girl who made me all these lists for vitamins I should take and what not. I felt bad because I already was in a bad mood Feom her being super late to having to cancel my meeting with my boss, so I ended up staying and buying $70 worth of stuff from her. I tried to wait a few days to see if I felt any good come from floating, and there wasn't any. I had more pain than I've had in years. I was gonna leave the whole part out in my review about the 45 minute late employee, but honestly it ruined my whole day and my whole experience. I Dont know if I would come back, certainly not for that kind of money and added inconvenience. So I'm giving this 2 stars unless I end up having a better experience, then I will update my review. My two stars are for the awesome colored sunglasses I bought that help with your mood. I want to buy them in every color. Hopefully your experience will be better than mine because I don't understand how anyone can enjoy paying for all that torture and stress. read more

I could not have picked a better place to have my first float tank experience. Upon walking in you are greeted by a friendly knowledgable staff. I was shown around and given useful knowledge on how to get the best experience possible. The first thing i noticed when entering my private room was how clean and inviting it was. I was initially worried about being claustrophobic but the tanks were very big, you can stand in them! The experience itself was very relaxing and therapeutic in a physical and mental aspect. You can literally feel your neck and back relax and re-align. Highly recommend this for any person healthy or not.
