You want to learn from a bunch of immature flight instructors, trying to churn you, with PTSD, this is the place to go. I started with flight instructor Erika, who taught a bunch of skills that had little to do with being able to solo fly (VOR, nav, etc). This is how they churn hours to keep themselves getting paid. Then moved over to Brandon Mcnally. What seemed to be promising turned out the opposite. He loves to make his own rules, set his own requirements, and swear at students. Today was the last straw when he called me an f***ing idiot under his breath for thinking I turned the oil cap on too tight (I did not). Realistically, when paying for a private school like this, no one wants to deal with an instructor who is anally retentive about their students and makes the exact same mistakes himself when flying. I would find a better school that isnt using dumpy planes or has service issues every time you book a flight read more

Time to check another item off of the old bucket list. Flying an airplane is something I have wanted to do since I was a kid. Whenever I looked at getting a pilot license before, I took a look at how much I would have to spend and decided that maybe $30 on a flight simulator game would scratch that itch for me. There's still nothing like the real thing though. So I took advantage of a LivingSocial deal that was too good to pass up - $59 for a discovery flight. Heck yeah, I'm in. Scheduling my flight was a breeze. I called on a Tuesday to see what times they had available and was given the option for a 9 am or 11 am flight Thursday. I jumped at the 9 am slot so that I could start my day off braving the skies in the morning like Charles Lindbergh before going into work. Day of the flight. Unlike skydiving where you have to spend an hour signing page after page saying short of someone deliberately killing you, you cannot sue them, The Flight School just required a few minutes for me to fill out half a page of contact info and I was off with my instructor Luke for a pre-flight inspection of the plane. Luke went through the checklist with me, with him inspecting everything outside and inside the plane, but letting me know what he was checking. Once the inspection was done, it was time to rock and roll. Luke got the engine started, got us rolling, and then allowed me to steer a bit with the foot rudders while taxiing down the runway. Luke then took over and got us off the ground. Whoosh! Once we hit 8000 feet and were stable, Luke turned it over to me. Uh, are you sure about that? I ended up with a good 15 minutes of actually flying the plane myself without really messing up. I mean, I wasn't doing Top Gun or Red Baron moves. A steady hand and taking things nice and easy are preferred over jerking in the direction you want to go in. When my fun was over, Luke took over landing the plane and it was smooth and textbook. He even offered to take a couple of photos of me in front of the plane! With my flight being the short one that The Flight School offers, I was done about an hour after arriving. So I drove to my office, strolled in, and started asking coworkers "So what did you do this morning?" Yes, obnoxious, but effective when you get that reluctant return quetion "Why, what did you do this morning?" read more

The self-proclaimed "office manager" will mimic you like a three year old and seems to be proud of herself for making the whole company look stupid when she does it. This place is fantastic. I set up a Discovery Flight for my boyfriend's 30th birthday and he absolutely loved it (he's never flown before). It cost about $99. Just set up the date and pay over the phone. Once you get there you meet your instructor and immediately go to the plane. He teaches you the controls and what to expect. Our instructor Gavin was fantastic and let my boyfriend do quite a bit of the flying himself (obviously with the instructor closely supervising and acting when necessary). Lasted for about an hour and it was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend for those who want to learn to fly and also for those that just want a unique experience. We were introduced to The Flight School when we purchased a Groupon. My son and l flew enjoyed it so much that he's now taking lessons. We've gotten to know and fly with at least 3 pilots and they are all very friendly and knowledgable. Even though my son is only 13, they are treating him like anyone else and as a result, he's progressing just like an adult at lesson #4. I get to sit in the back for no extra fee as long as we rent a 4 person plane. Another big plus is that they have a one time fee for their ground school which you can repeat as many times as you like! This has been a great experience and I would highly recommend them to others. read more

As with anything I get myself into I do a ton a research before hand. I stopped at many local FBO's and did my research online for the best value and care out of a flight school. TFS has the best pricing in town, that's for sure. Since cost factor was at the top of my list I decided to take a chance on the quality of service, it turns out the instructors and everyone in the FBO is great! It's kind of a small place and it's very busy so everyone talks to each other and you over hear stories about each individuals progress as they're stepping through some preflight ground school or after action wrap up. This helps if you need to switch between instructors during your training. Some people will advise against switching instructors or using multiple instructors, but for me it hasn't been an issue because the guys here all communicate well and seem to genuinely care about your progress and your wallet. I bought a 3 hour flight package for my husband, and decided that for Christmas I might like to add my father-in-law to the package. So two weeks ago, I called the school for a price quote and was pleasantly surprised at the low price. I confirmed repeatedly that it would cover everything included in the package, and was told that yes, the entire package would be covered. I drove all the way out to this place to buy the gift certificate for my father-in-law and was told that for that rate he could only ride in the plane and I would have to pay 3x that price to add him to the package. The lady would not listen to me, and wouldn't even bother to contact the employee who gave me the this information to confirm my story. She had the nerve to repeatedly tell me "how nice of them" it was to "let" my father-in-law ride along at all. ****UPDATE******* Here's what the people had to say for themselves - The special was only through groupon. If we could sell it for $59, we would sell it to everyone for $59. You want something for $149 for $59 because some guy, who we don't know his name, told you last month, that it was $59. Unless I told you it doesn't happen. If he told you we give corvettes with it, would you want me to give you that too? Wanting something for nothing? We do not and cannot offer this for $59. He was wrong. What is in the fine print on groupon is all we can go by. Flying is fun, you don't want to take all the fun out of it. We are flight training school, we offer flight training. If you are interested in flight training we can help you. If you want something for nothing we cannot. Aviation is a struggling industry, and needs to be supported. I'm a scientist and am thinking of buying a plane. Before I do that, I wanted to learn flying, so, I bought a LivingSocial coupon and made a reservation on 12/26 a couple of days in advance. Their policy is 24-hr cancellation without charge. As the coupon was for weekdays only, I had to take 1/2 day off work for the lesson. On 12/26, 2 hrs before my flight, Bradley called me to reschedule the lesson as the clouds were too low. We rescheduled for 12/27. I show up on 12/27, and my name isn't on the roster. The place is 45-min away one way! I took 1/2 day off work! Bradley wasn't even at the school and the guy who was there was extremely rude: "You're not on the roster. Bradley didn't put you on and we don't have any more availability until 12/30 (F) or 12/31 (Sat). I know this is not your fault but that's it. Hit up Bradley if you want to be compensated for your driving and time off work." I couldn't take 12/30 morning off work and my coupon wasn't valid on 12/31. I called up Bradley 2 times, left him a voicemail and text messages, and then followed up with the school again. They didn't even bother replying to my messages. LivingSocial just gave me LivingSocial credits and not a cash refund even though this was not my fault and the school made ZERO effect to have minimum customer service standards. read more
