We try not to eat fried food very often, so if we decide to indulge it better be good! Hubby and I stopped by and ordered 2 fish samplers. They were excellent, and the portions were huge. The fish was impeccably fresh, the batter not too salty and very crispy. I liked the way they packed the orders in their respective containers, it was easy to open up and eat out of without sitting at a table. I also appreciated the generous portion of tartar sauce in a wider cup so you could easily dip the fish into the sauce. After receiving our orders we drove down the road a bit, past the Marina and parked at the point overlooking the Columbia River and enjoyed our meal there. If you're like me and craving a good fish and chips.... This place is it. I got the sampler which had each type of fillet they order, fries, coleslaw and sauces to go with. 10/10 would recommend. The fish was ABSOLUTELY cooked to perfection leaving it moist and flakey while having some amazing crispy batter coated on the outside. My wife and I stopped for lunch and bought the $25 combo platter. It ended up coming to the table as a mound of fried fish and french fries coleslaw and dips. My husband and I stopped on here while we are staying at the state park this week. Wanted some fish and chips and didn't want to drive so far. This place hit the spot! We came to town for fishing and had a friend take us here. This put a spot on the map for us to return every year. Hands down the best fried shrimp I've bet had. They have amazing tarter sauce. I heard about this place from a local... he said it was the greatest fish and chips! So, on a recent day in April, I headed out to Hammond. It's a small place - take-out only - with no restrooms. Just letting you know. And they only take cash for payment. Now that the disclosures are out of the way... how was the fish? It was pretty good. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but for the Pacific Northwest, it was above average. I can't stand the heavily beer-battered fish they serve in WA and OR. It's like a contest to see how much breading each restaurant can add to a piece of fish. But The Fishmongers used a lighter batter, so more of the fish taste came through. I can't speak to the taste of the fries - I opted for coleslaw instead. There's nothing special about the cole slaw, and it came in 2 really small containers, like a side of dressing for a salad. The fish was hot, and it's definitely all cooked to order. They are extremely friendly and personable at The Fishmongers. Great tasting fish? Yes. The best I've ever had? We drove out for an adventure and found this little hole in the wall by chance. There are only outdoor covered tables to sit at, but it was so worth it to stop. The owner is straightforward, but helpful in finding the closest bathroom (a short drive down the road). What's really stellar here: are the fish and chips and the pricing! We ordered the mixed fish and chips box for $25 (tuna, rockfish, cod, and salmon) that said "a lot of food" on the menu. Figured my husband and I'd share since the owner said it was for two -- and how much could there possibly be for only $25!?!...well the bag we received had to have been 5 lbs with fish, fries, and slaw. It was enough for both of us to be stuffed (on fish) and have enough to take to our rental for another filling lunch the next day. The fish is not only generous but tastes great. We sprinkled it with a little spicy salt and mwah! The slaw was just okay, but I don't count that against it; I wasn't there for slaw. I'll absolutely be going back, and I'll probably call to make sure the place is open since I read other reviews that mentioned hours can be unpredictable. Kinda makes sense since it off the beaten path. (We actually tried going to go back a second time on the above trip to bring fish chips back with us to the city, but it was Sunday, and they are closed Sundays.) read more

This place was amazing. Stopped there after fishing to grab dinner. They were sold out of tuna and salmon, but hooked us up with a great amount of cod and rockfish. The shrimp were amazing and were huge. Like the size of small lobster... haha. Shrimp cocktail was huge with tons of fresh local bay shrimp. Thu gave us extra fries since we were the last customer of the night. Highly recommend is you're anywhere near Fort Stevens or even Astoria.
