Unique, sassy fun stop and you cannot get closer to the river without getting wet. Mike, owner, is a hoot! The beef sausage and smoked sauerkraut were delicious. No, really! The three sides we sampled were also fabulous 'Olive You More' antipasto is packed with interesting and diverse ingredients in an Italian style marinade/dressing. Green olives, black olives, cauliflower, cheese chucks, Pearl onions and more. 'Apple Pie Beans' are scrumptious. A variety of beans in an excellent sauce with a bit of a kick. Apples are soft and perfect. 'Sweet Potato Salad' is delish. Don't let the stairs or appearance fool you into not stopping and dining. Or stop for a cold beer and river views. Thanks Mike! Thanks Randy! We had a blast! And Olive YOU More Mike!

    I loved this table!

This was a really nice casual lunch stop on a road trip along the Mississippi. The Fish Shack appeared to be owner operated, and their menu was extensive with many homemade sides. Convenient dining area in a screened in porch area. My perch sandwich was great, and the hospitality of the owner and other guests was very nice.

Wow. You'll regret missing this stop. This has made my top 5 restaurant experiences. Food, people, and atmosphere were out of this world. The Flathead Catfish was the best fish I've ever eaten and it was caught right on the Mississippi. Getting anything with the smoked krat is an absolute must. Trying everything on this menu is now officially on my bucket list. Couple tips...you can't see the shack from the road. You'll see a set of public restrooms, the path down to the shack is just behind them. Bring cash or check. You order inside. Go hungry.

We came across this HIDDEN GEM on accident and had to come back in a few days because the food and atmosphere is that good. The whole place has so much character and the gentleman who runs it is a hoot and a half! Definitely go there, even if it's out of your way! 11/10!

Food is bad. Seriously, not sure how this place stays in business. Went with a group and no one liked what they served. Not good!

The Supper Club Standard: A Night of Steaks and Levity at Jones' Black Angus…read moreOn the sprawling Highway 18 in Prairie du Chien, Jones' Black Angus stands as a stalwart of the Wisconsin supper club tradition--a place where the atmosphere is as thick as the cuts of beef and the hospitality feels like an invitation into a neighbor's dining room. The experience is anchored by a service staff that possesses that rare blend of professional precision and genuine personality. Our waitress, Grace, was the heartbeat of the evening. She navigated the floor with a warmth that felt entirely unscripted, providing a level of care that culminated in a particularly touching gesture: when one member of our party stepped away during the presentation of the dessert tray, Grace made a point of returning later to ensure he received the full, choreographed "view" of the nightly sweets. The culinary journey begins at the salad bar, which is--to put it simply--impeccable. In an era where many establishments have retired this particular ritual, Jones' maintains it with a freshness and variety that honors the tradition. However, the evening's primary entertainment came in the form of a recurring linguistic gag. When the soup of the day arrived--a dish that was, by all sensory accounts, a classic gumbo--Grace insisted with a wink that it was "jambalaya." The ensuing debate became the running joke of the night, a bit of shared levity that only a truly great server can cultivate. But the kitchen is not just about the sides and the stories. The filet was impeccable--perfectly seasoned, expertly seared, and possessing that melt-in-the-mouth quality that justifies the Black Angus name. My sincere compliments to the chef for a masterclass in steakhouse fundamentals. "A great steakhouse is about more than just the meat; it's about the memory of the meal." -- Unknown Jones' Black Angus is a reminder of why the supper club remains a beloved institution. Between the "jambalaya" jests, the meticulously curated salad bar, and a filet that commands respect, it is a destination that delivers both a full heart and a full plate. Started our meals with fresh greens house salads. There were 4 in our party. One New York strip, one ribeye, one filet and one salmon. Steaks were very generous and cooked perfectly. Three of us had hash browns cooked crisp, one had baked potato. Hash browns came with a cheese sauce if desired. Salmon was a generous slab cooked to perfection. We had reservations for 5:30 but got there early and we were able to be seated right away. Our waitress was there fairly quickly and took our drink orders. We decided to start with onion rings and what a great choice, they were delicious. Two of us got prime rib and two of us got 8 ounce filets, 2 baked potatoes and 2 hash browns. We also got salads and French onion soup. Everything was delicious!!!! Service was attentive but not overbearing. The only issues we had, and they were slight, we had to ask for menus and our salads came out with our appetizer. I'm a big fan of getting the appetizer before the salad. But the food was so good I overlooked it this time. It was just a bit pricey but well worth it. We look forward to going back.

We ordered the saganaki to start, which was flambéed table side and it was fresh and delicious. We shared the porterhouse and the lamb chops (which were loins, not ribs) and there was an extra $8 charge on shared plates. The porterhouse was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The filet portion was my favorite part. The lamb loin chops were very thick and came with 4 large pieces. Each order came with a side salad or soup, and some type of potato, with many options to choose from. I love the Greek influence on this steak house restaurant. When I called to make our reservation, I let the staff know we were coming in for our 10-year anniversary. When we arrived, I also mentioned it to the host (the bald gentleman with glasses). He responded with, "Well, your wife is right behind you--there goes the surprise," as if she wouldn't know it was our anniversary. At no point during the evening did anyone acknowledge our celebration or even say "Happy anniversary." I even asked our waiter, Pat M., whether anyone had told him we were celebrating anything. He said no--that no one had informed him we were there for our anniversary. We didn't come expecting free food, dessert, or anything special. But not acknowledging our anniversary at all--especially after we mentioned it twice--was frustrating. Every other place we've celebrated at has at least offered a simple "Happy anniversary," if not a dessert, flowers on the table, or a personalized menu. Log Cabin truly dropped the ball, and I believe the host is largely to blame.
