Unique, sassy fun stop and you cannot get closer to the river without getting wet. Mike, owner, is a hoot! The beef sausage and smoked sauerkraut were delicious. No, really! The three sides we sampled were also fabulous 'Olive You More' antipasto is packed with interesting and diverse ingredients in an Italian style marinade/dressing. Green olives, black olives, cauliflower, cheese chucks, Pearl onions and more. 'Apple Pie Beans' are scrumptious. A variety of beans in an excellent sauce with a bit of a kick. Apples are soft and perfect. 'Sweet Potato Salad' is delish. Don't let the stairs or appearance fool you into not stopping and dining. Or stop for a cold beer and river views. Thanks Mike! Thanks Randy! We had a blast! And Olive YOU More Mike!

Wow. You'll regret missing this stop. This has made my top 5 restaurant experiences. Food, people, and atmosphere were out of this world. The Flathead Catfish was the best fish I've ever eaten and it was caught right on the Mississippi. Getting anything with the smoked krat is an absolute must. Trying everything on this menu is now officially on my bucket list. Couple tips...you can't see the shack from the road. You'll see a set of public restrooms, the path down to the shack is just behind them. Bring cash or check. You order inside. Go hungry.

I loved this table!

This was a really nice casual lunch stop on a road trip along the Mississippi. The Fish Shack appeared to be owner operated, and their menu was extensive with many homemade sides. Convenient dining area in a screened in porch area. My perch sandwich was great, and the hospitality of the owner and other guests was very nice.

We came across this HIDDEN GEM on accident and had to come back in a few days because the food and atmosphere is that good. The whole place has so much character and the gentleman who runs it is a hoot and a half! Definitely go there, even if it's out of your way! 11/10!

The Supper Club Standard: A Night of Steaks and Levity at Jones' Black Angus…read moreOn the sprawling Highway 18 in Prairie du Chien, Jones' Black Angus stands as a stalwart of the Wisconsin supper club tradition--a place where the atmosphere is as thick as the cuts of beef and the hospitality feels like an invitation into a neighbor's dining room. The experience is anchored by a service staff that possesses that rare blend of professional precision and genuine personality. Our waitress, Grace, was the heartbeat of the evening. She navigated the floor with a warmth that felt entirely unscripted, providing a level of care that culminated in a particularly touching gesture: when one member of our party stepped away during the presentation of the dessert tray, Grace made a point of returning later to ensure he received the full, choreographed "view" of the nightly sweets. The culinary journey begins at the salad bar, which is--to put it simply--impeccable. In an era where many establishments have retired this particular ritual, Jones' maintains it with a freshness and variety that honors the tradition. However, the evening's primary entertainment came in the form of a recurring linguistic gag. When the soup of the day arrived--a dish that was, by all sensory accounts, a classic gumbo--Grace insisted with a wink that it was "jambalaya." The ensuing debate became the running joke of the night, a bit of shared levity that only a truly great server can cultivate. But the kitchen is not just about the sides and the stories. The filet was impeccable--perfectly seasoned, expertly seared, and possessing that melt-in-the-mouth quality that justifies the Black Angus name. My sincere compliments to the chef for a masterclass in steakhouse fundamentals. "A great steakhouse is about more than just the meat; it's about the memory of the meal." -- Unknown Jones' Black Angus is a reminder of why the supper club remains a beloved institution. Between the "jambalaya" jests, the meticulously curated salad bar, and a filet that commands respect, it is a destination that delivers both a full heart and a full plate. Steak was textbook rare, lobster ravioli tasted homemade & the bread was a rich warm slightly sweet brioche dough. Pickled beets, ham salad, and French-dressing infused cheese spread on the salad bar ... I mean, come on. A delightful server & we sat in the "frank sinatra booth" ... definitely worth a visit.

We are in town for an unfortunate situation (death in the family) and had planned a small gathering…read moreof friends for dinner. My husband and I arrived a bit early- parking is really tough on a Friday night in downtown Galena but we scored a spot a block away quickly. So, we headed to the bar to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. $10 Pinot Grigio and Petosi $6.00 on tap- I enjoyed the piano player for a bit! Very talented! Once our party all arrived, we will seated in one of the dining rooms. We started with sharing saganaki, because this is what you do here. Most everyone ordered the filet, but I wanted the salmon and husband had the Greek chicken. The entrees come with a starch and soup or salad so we chose the cream of broccoli and a baked potato. Everything was very tasty and service was excellent as they work on a team - so there was always someone promptly picking up dishes etc. The meal ran about $75 pp as we averaged it out

Never been here before even though we've been to Galena many times. Always open for a first time…read more I called earlier in the day to make a dinner reservation, but no answer, but an answering machine. I left a message with a call back number asking about a reservation. Didn't get a callback, so we were a little concerned walking in at 5:30 on a Thursday evening. First thing we were asked after walking in was do you have a reservation? I explained what I wrote above and he says I think we have a table, no waiting. We usually prefer a booth, there was an empty booth next to our table, so I asked if it was available, was told that had a reservation. We settled into our table, ordered drinks and an appetizer. Then a staff member came over and offered the booth as the reservation was running late. We stayed put, placed our dinner order and relaxed. My partner ordered the small prime rib, I opted for the Greek style Cod. We both chose baked potatos. Our appetizer Greek feta with kalamata olives and tomatoes was very good. We opted out on the salads that came with our meals, but as the restaurant rotated customers we heard several offers for lentil soup instead, sadly not to us. Our meals came, great job with timing the different meals looking great. The medium-rare prime rib was great on top, but the bottom had a 1/8" deep sear that was a surprise. My Greek cod woke me up to a new version of the meal. Very Good and worth coming back for! The room was twice greeted with the exciting display of flaming saganaki, if you've never seen or had it, it's a great display and everyone nearby gets to feel the heat. The small prime rib was larger than any we've had elsewhere, but should have been more carefully cooked as the restaurant was not at capacity. Overall a nice restaurant, you have to love Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin music. Our server was very good, but missed offering the soup. I guess if you're calling for a reservation, call after 4:00 pm during serving hours. Worth returning to try other offerings.
