I posted a review for this business on yelp because I originally found this business and contacted them due to positive reviews here. I hired Justice Berger as a general contractor In the fall of 2024 to complete deck work. At the same time, I also accepted his bid on a structure build to complete afterward. Under his contractor license, he operates a business (though he is not listed as the owner) with 2 registered trade names: Dreamscape Designs and The Fence Guy. He insisted on time + materials in cash for the deck completion dragging it out and getting a small amount finished for the nearly $15,000. An example, 1st week ($4000 in labor) and all that was accomplished was a small concrete pad at bottom of ramp and changing out joist hangers under porch. He said there would be 2 people working, each getting $60/hr. Most of the time, it was just one person working while Justice stood around or Justice taking his time teaching someone to do simple cuts any qualified contractor would be able to accomplish. Twice, Justice left a worker (unregistered?) unsupervised and standing around with nothing to do while he went to the lumber yard. Otherwise, the daily trips to the lumberyard were tacked on to beginning of day pulling in travel time. I never approved paying an hourly rate for a daily trip to lumber yard and travel time for 3 weeks. Justice did not pull a permit when attaching a roof extension to the house, damaging it in the process. He did receive a license violation for this. The roof leaked and I asked him to repair it 3 different times. Each time he only put caulk on it and told me that he would just keep throwing caulk at it. (I had to hire a roofer to repair). As I was footing the bill, he overbought materials without giving them to me afterward as requested and used them on the structure build. He did not follow the plans on the structure build, as requested over and over again throughout the build process, instead replacing them with inferior materials and workmanship. Examples include not sheathing btwn studs and siding, not using cedar trim, not using butyl tape and less than 1" roofing screws (roof leaked on this as well), not using felt moisture barrier btwn metal roof and plywood (leading to moldy underside of plywood), scrapping together pieces of wood for door frame and wall, among many others. When i expressed my displeasure he told me he did not have enough funds for materials, even though I ended up paying $15,000/$19,000 up front for the structure alone. In addition, I had paid him $15,000 the 3 weeks prior for deck work. The following month he posted on business fb page he had just bought an expensive piece of welding equipment. Since January 2025, I have been trying to get him to actually fix the problems I laid out. He began saying he would do anything to fix the problem if I would only take down my awful review 'when he had the time and the funds'. I asked for an agreement on specific work to be fixed and that it needed to be completed no later than march 1st. After many accusations that I was trying to ruin his business, he never made a commitment to fix and instead disappeared. He only reached out again in retaliation after I reported his business around suspicious business practices. He was hostile with name calling and made veiled threats. This is the most deceptive business I have ever come across. I caught the owner leaving a fake positive review promoting the business on this site. It was removed. If these other positive reviews here are real, I can only guess he picks and chooses who to do this to and who not. I, unfortunately, was one of the unlucky ones. And the lengths he has gone to get my review removed, including pressuring me to take it down and posting flat-out lies as comments on my review saying he had no idea who I was, he had never worked for me, and was harassing him, is absurd. Tells me this was probably not the first time. Also, I made the mistake of hiring him without looking up his license and he had a strike against him for not complying with registration requirements only a month before I hired him. In May 2024, my townhouse group and I needed to have our old, rotten fences replaced. We got four quotes, all which varied in prices, but none of which felt as personal as Dreamscape Designs. From the get-go, the owner and contractor Justice, was very honest with us with what he was able to offer, and made significant upgrades to our fence. In fact, he identified areas of poor craftsmanship with the original fences that were built nearly 11 years ago. He provided great value, but also great insight into what he felt to be most important to the longevity of the work he provided. He was very transparent, and was always professional in the way he had conducted himself around our property, and with the owners. Personally, I was so impressed with the work, that I hired him for another job! Again, the same level of transparency, and professionalism was brought to the table, and I very much appreciate the work Justice has brought to our property. I would highly recommend Dreamscapes.
