The gravel patio is the view from my living room and the deck extends the footprint of my kitchen; both are visible from the entire back of my house. So, it was important to me that it looked a certain way. John & crew really delivered, the space is beautiful and I love it. The deck is great for entertaining family & friends, sun-bathing or enjoying a peaceful morning cup of coffee. My teenage son & his cousins prefer to hang-out on the gravel patio, I primarily use it as a guilty pleasure for afternoon naps. This is my second review for this company. I'm writing this for a couple of other people. There's an old saying which goes something like "good fences make good neighbors" which I can attest is a very accurate adage. Two of my elderly neighbors who have been living next to one another for over 25 years with no problems had a section of fence fall between their properties. All the sudden it was claws out. For some reason I got dragged into it and in turn I dragged Allender Construction into it. I got a quote, met with my neighbors, coordinated dates and times, got the fence rebuilt, and peace was restored. Hired John based on his excellent communication during the bid process. He came in with a competitive price, and his availability was good. Texting him to talk about my ideas for the fence gave me a lot of confidence in his abilities. The project got complicated due to some unforseen circumstances (apparently my yard is mostly rocks after you dig 5" down), but John remained communicative throughout the whole process. The results were better than I could have hoped. I'm so so happy with how my fence, gate and stairs turned out. He took some pictures I found on Google and made them a reality, even going the extra mile to make the fence dog proof so my dogs can be safe back there unattended and won't squeeze out through any gaps. Allender Construction took care of a series of planned siding issues and more on my 1939 home: the crew was effective, efficient and clean. Moving into Olympia after 50+ years in Oregon left me clueless about who to hire: I read reviews and got 3 bids. John seemed the best possible choice. When they got into the garage, a separate building, they discovered much more than they'd anticipated...a bowed-in block wall which had been covered up by the prior owners and not disclosed! They did an estimate and were very up-front about the challenges. All the workers were patient with my questions, kind (I was experiencing tremendous grief from the death of my husband and subsequent move from home in another state), and so good about cleaning up. I'd had an electrical company do some work and those men tromped big clods of soil and sloshed mud all over. The Allender guys used floor wipes to clean from a closet they refurbished all the way to the door! What a difference! All respect to Allender! read more

I had to work with him over the phone from out of state to get a bid and to plan the project, this there were a handful of changes when they started work. John was very patient with me and accommodating of the changes. He was clear about timeframes and provided daily updates, sometimes more frequent than that. John and his crew (Zach, Forest, and Taverin) were friendly and respectful, all very down to Earth and kind people. I even met their bookkeeper, and she was lovely too. At 3:30 PM on a day (11/4) of pouring rain I discovered water leaking from the stove pipe/ vent over my microwave and stove. I went down the list of roofing contractors and called three other contractors, they either weren't working or they were overbooked and could not make it out that day which would have caused a disaster. I called Mr. Allender and he was able to come right out, he was out within a half hour, he got up on the roof, he got into the attic space, he knew exactly what was going on and within an hour and a half he had the problem fixed. My roof was leaking after a pretty bad rain storm. I'm so lucky I found Allender Construction on Yelp! John, the owner, answered within an hour and gave me an available date/time to do a free estimate. He came on time and was very cordial in his communications. I got several bids for my roof, but I went with John because he was the most knowledgeable. He did a THOROUGH examination of my roof and he was spot on. He took the extra time and pointed out the same things my home inspector did when I was in the process of buying my home. His estimate was also very affordable. I decided that I wanted John to re-roof the entire roof because I was looking for a long-term solution. The renovators who sold me the home did a terrible job with the roof and it was going to continue being a problem if I didn't get everything fixed. I told John I needed a WATERPROOF roof that lasts for many years. I was amazed by John and his crew's perseverance and work ethic, especially because of the snow and rain delays. John also found that I had dry rot in my roof because of the terrible ventilation. He replaced all of the damaged plywood and provided a solution for the ventilation issue. John kept me updated throughout the process, explained the work, took photos, and walked me through everything. He gave me an estimate for all additional work and we agreed before he started it. I am very satisfied with my roof. It is beautiful and well done. I have experienced zero leaks and we've had plenty of rain. I will definitely have Allender Construction do some more work for me.
