My kids even got to do some cool things because of their enthusiastic teachers-- playing the National Anthem at the Phillies was a highlight they'll never forget!! If you're thinking of private classical or jazz instruction, vocal instruction, or a jazz or classical ensemble experience -- for yourself or your kids-- I can think of no better place! We had purchased a parking pass as well so we were able to park on the premises. We loved it here! It was the perfect spot to have this music festival! The venue isn't terribly big so it had a intimate feel for what it was. They had an outdoor stage set up and they also have a man indoor theater that they held some acoustic sessions in and the sound quality was wonderful! There was plenty of room for the amount of food trucks and vendors they had set up. Along with some chairs, the sound booth, etc. we are already looking forward to the festival next year which will be held here as well I believe.

(A several block walk over the choke-point of a small bridge.) This was disgusting for a severe storm. I can only imagine what they would have done in an active-shooter situation. Do better!

I FINALLY made it to Universoul Circus and I had a FABULOUS time!…read more During my trip last year to Philadelphia, I wanted to experience something that I have never done yet. My Uber driver picked me up from the airport and questioned what I planned to do that weekend; I had a full itinerary but also asked him for suggestions. He quickly replied, "You MUST do the Universoul Circus! You would enjoy it, I promise!" Welp, I took his word for it and got online to purchase me a ticket. Luckily, the show was at 7:30 PM so I had enough time to go back to the hotel and get ready. Now, what really attracted me to go was the whole meaning behind Universoul. Universoul Circus is the ONLY African American operated circus in the world and such an extraordinary experience for everyone! You see, Universoul Circus was created by an African American man named Cedric Walker who had this vision of bringing creative-minded people together in a circus to show off their skills and talent. Universoul Circus has been recognized in over 20 different countries and is a big deal in the US. The location was not far from my hotel and I had wonderful Uber drivers that were so patient in the midst of all the confusion and hectic traffic! I got there right on time and had up-close and personal seating. I sat by lovely women who was a caretaker and took her consumers to see the show. Once the show began, I knew I had made the right decision. First and foremost, I love dance performances and grew up being involved in dance/step performances in school. The performances here were amazing. My favorite was when they got the audience engaged and the children involved and brought them on stage so they can show their talent off to the world! The performers were very diverse and absolutely talented! They brought two elephants onto the stage and had them engaging with the children; the children also had an opportunity to ride the elephants during the break. The elephants were so cute and adorable! It was so moving to watch. The performance is very engaging and filled with laughter and family fun. The performers are amazing and have SO much talent and skills. Truly great for anyone to come and see! It's a very interactive circus. Be on the lookout for when Universoul Circus is coming to a City near YOU!

In the late afternoon on Saturday, decided to purchase the basic ticket online for $49.90 and took myself on a solo date to The Tower Theater. The staff had some technical difficulties finding my ticket in their system when I arrived, but eventually they found it. Before you go into the experience, you can grab a drink, which I did. I went for the "The Van Gogh". It was a very light cocktail, and I wasn't expecting much from it. It was interesting to read some of Van Gogh's life and to see his paintings in a moving visual or in a 3D dimensional type of way. Afterwards, you can color one of his paintings with medium sized crayons and/or do the virtual reality (which I did not purchase). I think the price for the weekend was way too expensive for what was offered. The entire experience was decent. Also, was able to find nearby street parking and downloaded the needed app for meter parking.

I stopped in this past weekend to see "Murdering Marlowe". I'm no stranger to the arts, but wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I didn't get a chance to read about the play beforehand. I was surprised by the size (or lack thereof) of the Old Academy's auditorium. Their seating area can't handle a huge audience - but is that really a problem? The venue's intimate setting does make performances more personal; it was easy to become absorbed into the characters on stage. In particular, the actor who played Marlowe was a hoot! (Check out their show!) The Old Academy Players is a not-for-profit, largely volunteer-driven, community theater so if you've time to spare, sign up for their mailings and see where you can help!

They were very hospitable, much moreso than theaters downtown. For example, they offered refreshments during intermission, and a champagne reception after the production for opening night. Other playhouses do similar things, perhaps asking a modest fee for refreshments, etc., but it's normally one or the other (refreshments or reception), not both. It just was a few small touches like that that made us feel welcome, even when a long way from our neck of the woods. Thank you, Old Academy, for a great production, and since your season boasts some heady plays that look like they have some real content and intellect to them, we look forward to going back. Please note, we found no designated parking lot (may have missed it). They are in a residential neighborhood so we found a spot, but on show night these spots are few and far between... had to park a bit far, so be prepared to walk a bit (noting shoe type and foul weather).

The bathrooms were pretty clean and they had plenty of stalls, so no need to wait in a long line. We had seats on the balcony, and the staff was kind enough to escort us to our seats. The view was solid and the sound quality was great. The balcony seats felt relatively comfortable. Like most venues, drinks and food can be a bit pricy. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my strawberry vodka lemonade. The nachos were a little weird -- carrot does not belong on nachos. The chicken on the nachos was still juicy though. I wouldn't mind coming back for another show here.

Drinks were expensive as can be assumed at any concert, and for the Hilary Duff concert specifically, they only had a certain number of the coveted microphone drink toppers, which I don't exactly think is fair (even though me myself was able to get one). I just don't understand creating a craze over a souvenir cup and then only having like 100 or so actually for sale..... it just does not make sense to me in 2026 when everything is mass produced and a regular Joe-Schmo can 3-D print anything plastic in his basement. I didn't eat here because I didn't want to take out a small mortgage to do so. And if my review wasn't already bleak enough, the public transit situation is absolutely asinine. I waited over an hour for a bus, all of which passed me because they were full and ended up sharing an uber with some girls I overheard were going to my neighborhood. I'm sorry, but if you know that you're having a huge concert, please make sure that there are extra SEPTA buses (or designated shuttles), waiting to ferry people out of this super far, basically remote part of the city. The tram moved at a nice pace so you could really take in everything. So much to see - everywhere. It was a really fun way to spend a few hours on a rainy day! But I urge you to visit rain or shine!
