Very nice experience! It can easily become overwhelming with so many oil options while looking to make the perfect candle blend. But our guide (can't remember her official position) was incredibly helpful and thorough in helping us to understand complimentary notes. This was such a cute sister date and highly recommended. read more

I believe I have returned 3 times to this establishment because of our pleasant experience on each occasion. Whether it be for a girlfriend's birthday celebration, a couple's date night, or simply in need of restocking on candle supply, we have loved the process and the service beyond! A newer addition to this location compared to my first time is that they now offer their own branded bottles of wine in addition to BYO. The staff is so down to earth, friendly and informative as they walk you through step by step in order to craft your very own Anthropologie-esque aromas! We had the liberty to truly take our time and did not feel rushed in anyway. You can bring small bites to pick from and they even offered to capture the evening with a Polaroid. We will be back as soon as our wicks run out! read more

This sounded like a cute date idea until I looked at the details. It's called Wax + Wine, but...there's no wine. For $124, we can create two tiny candles, and we are allowed the privilege of BRINGING OUR OWN WINE. That's right: There's no wine at Wax + Wine. It's a ballsy name for the business, y'all. (BTW: We're also allowed to bring champagne or beer--which DOUBLY negates the name of the place.) I was about to close the browser tab when I spotted something even more egregious: "Tap water and cups provided, ice, plates + utensils are not provided." That is exactly the grammar they used, so we can't be 100% sure, but I'm 99% sure they're saying they don't even have ice! At a place called Wax + Wine, I'm not expecting plates or utensils. What I AM expecting is a fun experience making candles and drinking wine. Wine sometimes requires ice. Wine ALWAYS requires wine. I DID finally close the tab, but the last thing I saw was a button to "Purchase A Gift Card." My instant mental response was "Buy an ice machine." Cute idea. Poorly executed. Wondering what will be in its place a year from now. read more

Pros - such an awesome date night or friends' night out place!! - interior is clean, inviting and comfortable - requires reservation and payment ahead of time - server was so sweet and informative about the entire candle making process - offers many various scents (including some seasonal ones!) Cons - street parking only, but they do have a lot they recommend on their website - we brought a ton of our own snacks and wine, and I wish they offered us some plates for our snacks A bit pricey for a candle, but I personally think it's worth it since it was an overall fun experience. Definitely want to come back again! read more

First time here with my girls and we love it! Great experience from selecting the scents to mixing and making candles. It was so easy and fun! PS. What A Fun Outing! Our girls group came to celebrate a few of our birthdays! The space was inviting (but a lil tight)-good news they have secured a new space on Old City so that should help with the comfortability level! BYOB your drinks and snacks...our group took full advantage of this option! Now down to the business of making candles: The scents offered are varied and allows some variety to mix if you choose! After the candle scents are picked and mixed..there is a 20 minute wait for the candles to set! After that it is 24 hours before you can burn them! I recommend this is a fun activity w/friends or something different for date night! read more

4 out of 5 for a couple of reasons; 1. Attention to detail; I believe it would've been exceptional if the oils were filled and an exact measurement was available. 2. Friendly staff; however, could have had a better number of staff on hand to assist the amount of customers and appointments scheduled. 3. A great experience, with an amazing therapeutic takeaways. Completely customisable, great for dates or group occasions. Definitely would do it again, and highly recommend. read more

Wax + Wine - Tools of the trade. A great experience! - Venues & Event Spaces Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I love this as an activity with friends! I have had great experiences with both of the times I was here - it's a BYOB candle-making spot (though you can also purchase wine there). Atmosphere: So cozy! You walk in and the atmosphere feels more intimate (it's more dimly lit) - great for being with friends or a date activity. You immediately smell candles when you come in, so be mindful that there are a lot of smells going on! Activity: The entire experience took us around 1.5-2 hours and felt very relaxed. Our guide was very patient with us and informative - you start with visiting the scent wall and picking out 1-2 scents to combine into a candle. Then, you make it all on your own (with the guide's help / instructions) and wait for it to dry! read more

Update: Jordan was able to get into contact with me and made a great effort to make things right. I truest appreciate it! I have a hard time believing this is a 5 star place. My sister and I made a reservation back in November 2020. It was cancelled due to covid 19. (Totally understandable). They sent an email out saying we could get a reservation credit/gift card in exchange for the cancelled reservation. The shop was closed for a few weeks so we were unable to get ahold of anyone. I left voice mails and was never called back. I finally got in touch with someone on the phone who told me to email "Jordan". I never received any contact back from the shop. Now we have learned a review was left on our behalf. I continue to call during business hours with no answers. read more

Warning: their candles or the wix might be poor quality... health concern Do you want black soot all over your nose and throat or your room?! I didn't want to publicly write this review but I contacted them weeks ago and still haven't gotten any response so I wanted to warn others. The experience we had at this place was 5/5 when we went to make our candles. We were also lucky because we went on a not so crowded day so we had some private time in the scent room before others started coming in. The candles are packaged nicely and you get to pick 2 scents for each candle you make. Staff was friendly and wasn't rushing us. There was a wide variety of scent selections we had so much fun smelling and paring. This place is romantic and perfect for a date night until.... Worst NIGHTMARE HAPPENED. We went home with our candles with no instruction or warning whatsoever about burning these candles. I assumed the typical (2-4hr) burning time should be fine. I burned my first candle for about 2.5-3 hrs in my bedroom before blowing it out and going to sleep. Next morning: I woke up with BLACK soot in my nose and also BLACK mucus down my throat. I attempted to cough it out for a good 10 min and still had remaining soot around my throat. My nose and throat were irritated. This was DISGUSTING. I never had issues with burning bath and body works candles. This made me think that the quality of the candle/wix this place provide is not good quality!!! I'm so grossed out I have to toss my remaining four candles out because there was no way I want to risk having soot in my body again. I looked online and saw people could have died from this. I'm angry - contact them and heard no explanation whatsoever. What's the point of providing their contact information and not respond back when it's negative feedback?? read more

Second visit-it was okay. I think I was just spoiled after experiencing Nick as a host. My team continues to rave over the experience during my first visit. Based on the experience, I rebooked for my daughter-in-Law's birthday. I would return, but would request Nick. I read that we could get utensils, but it was never mentioned. I had brought a limited # of forks and we had to reuse. It wasn't a bad visit; just underwhelming. My guest enjoyed themselves though. read more

The place is very pretty, looks upscale. It's in such a great neighborhood. Our server, Mia, was fabulous! She was so knowledgeable and patient. She really took great care of us. We brought our own drinks and goodies to eat, but they have a full bar and charcuterie trays you can order. The candles have. soy-coconut wax blend and the scents are essential oils. These candles don't bother my allergies at all! The candle jars are large and the candle will burn for 40 hours. This place is big enough for parties or just a table for two. The process is fun. I went here with my boyfriend for my birthday. I had a lovely time but to pay almost 50 a person you would expect SOMETHING would be included. Our instructor was lovely and it was a fun time but you're essentially paying 50 dollars for a candle. The options for jars were limited, you're only allowed to use two of the scents and you have to pay for drinks. Obviously as a newer small business, I understand prices being higher but even just throwing in a free glass of wine or at the least having complimentary snacks available to make it feel like more of an experience. I am very happy with the candles we made and the ambience was lovely, but to pay 100 dollars just to walk in the door and then have no food and have to buy drinks seems a little silly to me. read more

I had the pleasure of doing a wax + wine session online through Penn Gradfest. They are very organized and I am very impressed by their flexibility and COVD/quarantine friendly business model. They sent the kit with wax, scents, candle container etc. Everything was nicely packed and in good condition. The actual session was very good with Jordan. He was very clear with his directions and also very engaging. After the session, they sent out a written version of the instructions which was helpful. Which makes for a great start, the candle making process was super easy/enjoyable. Our reservations were for a Saturday early afternoon. It was nice to take our time smelling all of the scents without it being crowded. So recommended going early. Our instructor was friendly and helpful! Also, the ambiance was on point. The good thing about Wax + Wine is that you don't need any artistic abilities to create a masterpiece... all you need is your sense of smell and a bottle of wine. I knew I was going to fall in love with this place. Definitely making another trip here in the future. Had a reservation at 1:30pm for two. I was greeted at the entrance by a gentleman who I assume is the owner. He was very kind and showed me to my seat while I waited for my friend to arrive. The entire staff was hospitable and friendly. Everyone I came in contact with was awesome. The first thing you're asked to do is write your name, email and the date on a clipboard and bring the clipboard to the scent cellar. This is where the magic happens. There's a section on the paper on the clipboard where you can jot down notes of the scents you paired and liked. The shelves are packed with a variety of scents to choose from. They are sorted out by categories, including fruity, earthy, seasonal, sweet, etc. Our instructor said she feels like she's walking into someone's apartment when she walks into the scent cellar. I completely agree. It was so therapeutic. I came here with the intention of making one candle, however, I asked if I could pay the difference and make two because I loved the experience so much. I picked out 4 scents; two for each candle. I went with Wassail & Citrus Basil and Cinnamon & Oakmoss. Once we got back to our seats, (and poured more wine) we started the candle making process. You mix the oils into a little shot glass, and once you're happy with the scent, the oils get mixed into a mug of hot wax. You pour the hot wax into a container with a wick. That's basically the process! It's super simple and there's no room for error because they walk you through how to do this. Your creation goes inside a freezer and you sip away while you wait. I wish I would've came here sooner. This is such a wonderful concept, and I will be telling my friends and family about it. The staff and the ambiance are absolutely amazing. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Thank you so much, Wax + Wine!!!! read more

A group of three of us came here after making a reservation to make candles. I think you can also just walk-in to make candles. The inside and outside of the store is adorable. Inside, it looks like a restaurant, but everyone is sitting at tables and the bar drinking and making candles. It's great that it's BYOB. When you make a candle, they take you into the back to their scent cellar and you can choose two scents out of around 75 to mix to make a candle. They provide everything you need and the process is super easy. The resulting candle is also nice after I burned it. My only complaint is that it is pretty pricey just to make one candle, but I also understand it's the experience you're paying for, too. read more

If I can give this place 10 stars I definitely would. This place was such a good vibe for special occasions (bday, anniversary, dates). I took my friends here for my bday and It was a great decision. We booked the 7pm slot and I do suggest you guys to come earlier to find a parking. Tip: According to the staff, if you decided to park at ACME, just buy an item(s) and show the receipt to the guard and you can park for FREE. We didn't know this, we thought you have to pay and we were like nahhh. Ok, let's get back to the Wine +Wax experience. We were seated at their private room-usually you pay extra, but there were still a lot of customers when we walked in so they put us in that awesome room (THANK YOU JESUS) because that added to the intimacy experience. We were welcomed by our instructor Taylor (awesome, awesome lady, no complaints whatsoever) and she patiently explained to us the whole shebang. Basically: 1. Pick your scents (2 sets) 2. Mix your scents to your liking 3. Name your scents 4. Mix it with wax and pour into the jar Note: do not light it up until 24 hrs later The whole experience usually should take about 1.5 hr but last night they were so busy that it took longer, which was fine and we were the last customer. Overall, I highly recommend people to try this place and experience the good vibez that they provided for me and my friends. Happy mixing! read more

For that mother-daughter bonding experience, here is an alternative to mani/pedi-ing! Got the last seats on a hopping Saturday. Your signature scents begin with the library of aromatic oils and decorative pots. Lovely Isabelle offered basic rules about how to 'cleanse' your nose. Scribble down your choices for decision time! Mix the elixirs that you pour into hot wax provided by Isabelle that become your two candles. The shop name is a bit deceiving -- Wax, yes,but BYOB wine. So had to run out for a bottle. After a glass (or two) that surprise subsided and the pleasure kicked in. Every time I pass by, the place is packed with celebrants -- what a happy place. read more

I made a reservation at Wax + Wine for my friends birthday. Her birthday ended up being Easter so about 3 weeks ahead of our reservation, a Wax+ Wine representative emailed me to let me know that there was a glitch in the system and that they are not open for Easter. To make up for the inconvenience, Wax + Wine not only rescheduled our date, but also gave us 2 candles each for the price of 1. I was very impressed by how polite the Wax + Wine representative was and how nicely they handled the mistake. My friend and I arrived for our session at 5 pm on a Friday and were seated right away. We were walked through the candle making process step by step and were very well attended to. As soon as we sat down, our wine was poured and we were given a few minutes to relax before we were taken back to the scent cellar. There were many scents in the scent cellar and I am sure you will be able to find your perfect scent, regardless of what scents you typically like. Once we picked our scents, we went back to the main area and Wax + Wine employees brought us our scents to mix together and create candles with. Overall, I loved my experience! I would highly recommend this activity to everyone. It is a bit on the pricier side, but it is perfect as a birthday or bachelorette activity. For those of you who left your wine at home like me, there is a Fine Wine and Good Spirits on 11th and Chestnut that is a 9 minute walk from Wax + Wine. Attended one of Wax + Wine's virtual events in partnership with Penn GAPSA. Prior to the event, we got to pick out two scents to mix in to our candle and the color of the candle holder, which was a nice way to customize our experience. I wasn't in Philly for the actual event, but Wax + Wine sent me all of the materials (super well packaged which included most everything we needed...down to the wet nap to clean up afterwards!) ahead of time. They were super supportive and had excellent communication with me as I made sure I had everything set up for the event (including kindly and patiently answering all of my questions about shipping!). The event itself was also super fun! It was so interesting to learn to make the candles (no experience required, which was amazing). Jordan was such a great host! He peppered in a ton of trivia and kept us super engaged in the 45 minute session. I also loved that he had an assistant (shoutout to Ricky!) who answered questions in the chat to make sure nobody was lost. My friend and I made a reservation for Wax + Wine a few weeks ago and have been looking forward to it ever since. We visited in 4/7/21. It did not disappoint! First and foremost, everyone was wearing masks and was compliant with COVID restrictions. They never had more than one party in the smaller back room to pick scents. I really appreciated that they were taking guidelines seriously. The overall experience was so much fun! The atmosphere was great! Our instructor (whose name I'm forgetting ‍ she had a floral headband on and really precise eyeliner!) and the new person she was training were very personable and funny. I would recommend this for a girls night out, a date night, maybe even something to do for Mother's Day since it's coming up. I'm looking forward to lighting my own unique candle and seeing how great it smells. Overall It was fun and the time seemed to just fly by because we were enjoying ourselves so much! read more

I came here for a private event, and had so much fun! First of all, the place is adorable. You walk in, and the shop is really cozy and welcoming. Perfect place for a get together with friends or a date night! Could even be a fun solo activity if you are looking for something to do. Everyone got to make 2 candles, the staff was extremely friendly and instrumental in helping each person pick the perfect combinations of scents. You write down what you like and then narrow it down from there....Smelling all the different scents was fun, and there is a large selection to choose from. We then mixed our scents and poured our wax, the staff went above and beyond helping us with each step and helping us with our scent ratios. I greatly appreciated the help from the staff, as I am often sensitive to smell and can get overwhelmed when there are multiple scents flowing through a room. We then socialized with wine and cheese while we waited for our candle wax to set. Before leaving, the staff packed up our candles, and reviewed some tips with how to light and get the most out of our candles. The candles were packed nicely into individual boxes and then bagged up super cute. Pricing seems pretty reasonable, it's BYOB, and a really fun activity. Staff is personable, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. I would absolutely come back and highly suggest coming in to make some great smelling candles! read more
