BOK is such a fun place to visit. I've gone there more frequently since the installation of Fabiola's mini art prints machine. Also I've gone to the building recently for some pop up events. The open house is a really fun time to visit though it's hard to manage the time to visit the entire building since it's so vast. But I love that there is a wide range of shops and businesses all in one building. It's easy to discover something new here.

South Philly's BOK combines everything I love about travel into one- history, food and architecture. Located inside an FDR-era 1936 school building is a community of artists, makers, restaurateurs and business owners, half of whom are women. After enjoying a sesame bagel with blueberry compote at nearby Korshak, I wandered over to BOK for a coffee at Two Persons Coffee, an independent cafe inside BOK. To my surprise, I wandered through the giant old school finding shops of pottery, art, etc. and the offices of small business owners. Additionally, there's a rooftop bar with a stunning view of Philly, a restaurant and Machine Shop, a woman-owned bakery worth your time.

I attended a kids birthday party down at the basement at Beehive at Bok building. The place is neat. Got a spacious room for play area and another decent size room for eating. The play area I feel is more gear towards tots and younger age kids. There is one slide, some baby and tots obstacle course equipments, some play pretend toys, etc. but no jungle gym for older kids. So if your party has more younger kids, this wouldn't be too bad of a place. My 4.7yo daughter and 9mos baby had fun. The owner leaves you with the entire facility and only come back when the party time is up. I believe this place offers summer camp for kids and they do quite alot of arts and crafts because there were plenty of art supplies organized in one of the room. Three down sides about this place: (1) You would think because this place is gear towards younger kids and even babies so the floor would be clean. Kids place usually are bare foot or with only socks on. The place looks clean but not the floor. The floor made my feet turned dark, that's how dirty is it. I hope the floor is not usually like this dirty. (2) Another down side would be parking. There is no parking lot or parking garage for you. It is street parking. And around the blocks are mostly 2hrs parking Monday thru Sunday. (3) Lastly would be you need to walk down 2 flight of stairs in order to go in. This is a kids' place so that is definitely inconvenient for those that bring strollers or people that has plenty of stuff to carry in, like for a party. I have to hold my 4yo down those stairs while my husband waited for my friend to help carry my 9mos old baby in the baby stroller down. I hope they do have another entrance that is more suitable and accessible for strollers and such.

It was our first time here as we came for a birthday party on a weekend. To my surprise, this place was very spacious and modern although it was in the basement. I love the variety of toys that they have which can accommodate you kids of different ages. The kids had fun! The bathrooms were a bit awkward but the place is pretty nice. You have to take your shoes off when you enter, yet the cubbies and shoe cases were not at the entrance but you have to walk in to the middle of the facility and turn right to a little hallway. Birthday parties are also three hours compared to two hours at other facilities. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here and will be returning for open/private play. TIP: It's street parking that is not hard to find but pay attention to the streets that are only two hours onlu

I personally am not good with technology and the owner was exceptionally patient helping me connect my laptop to the monitor remotely. I would highly recommend this business and I would come back. Also should be noted. They were open on Black Friday while most of their competitors in the area were closed. I was the only one here and they still allowed me to use the space.

Being the perpetually curious (aka nosy) person I was, I googled it, and realized it was a new co-working space. They were running a promotion - a free day to check out and work at their office space! The phrase "free" was music to this Asian's ears. I got my bum up the stairs so fast, I was out of breath. But I digress. The receptionist, unfazed by my disheveled appearance and barely concealed greed (my first question to her - "Can I really work here for free?"), welcomed me and gave me a tour of the office. Three things I noticed right away: 1. Free, unlimited coffee (Freeeeeeeeeee) 2. A Zen Room (a multipurpose room away from the hustle and bustle of the office that can be used for private phone calls, meditation, and mini power naps) 3. Clean, modern designs that appease the minimalist in me As I settled down at a desk to start my work, I thought to myself how nice it would be to have a space of my own, and not haul my 20 pound bag and laptop from my apartment to a coffee shop everyday. I hadn't considered it before, as office spaces in the city were typically out of my price range, but I noticed that it was only $350 to rent a desk ($12 a day), or if I really wanted to be cheap - $185 for 24/7 access to the space, but no designated desk ($7 a day). Both options were cheaper than what I paid to work at a coffee shop where I also faced the following limitations: 1. Only drink two cups of coffee to save money 2. Take my phone calls outside to ensure privacy (not fun when it was raining or snowing) 3. Grapple with the fear of getting my laptop stolen each time I had to take a bathroom break 4. Deadly glares from baristas who resented me for hogging a table for up to 8 hours a day But what really sealed the deal was this: customer service. Not only did the receptionist treat me with kindness, one of the managing partners dropped by the office, and she worked patiently with me to assess which plan best suited my needs. At no point did she aggressively sell their services. In fact, she even asked me to think about it for a couple days, and that she would be glad to answer questions should they come up. I just sent her an email to put all the wheels in motion, and am so excited to call this space my office! TL;DR: Awesome co-working space in the heart of Philly - free coffee all day, reliable internet, and intriguing conversations.

Our move jn experience was great and our experience great for a while- Then property management was transferred to Regus/IWG. We were not notified of the transfer until after the fact, the management transition was a disaster, and Regus is incompetent and difficult to deal with. For 9 months Regus has produced incorrect invoices, lost record of payments, added late fees to payments they lost, and refuse to recognize bank records as valid proof of payment. They lay the blame on the former management and current tenants for their internal issues and expect the tenants to provide proof of everything. Since the new year the dedicated desk area has suddenly cleared out of users by at least half. Many complain of the same issues my business has experienced with Regus and found it easier to go elsewhere than deal with their errors and incompetence. If I was looking for a Coworking space now, I'd ignore Newbold Exchange, Regus/IWG has always been difficult to deal with in past experiences and have only gotten worse.

The space really enhances collaboration but also allows for a more private work space if needed. A true highlight is the roof deck on level 5 complete with sweeping views of Philadelphia. The staff are welcoming and will bend over backwards to ensure that all of your needs are met (within reason). For example, I needed to print something out in order to be fully prepared for a training I was in town to conduct. When I asked where the nearest kinkos was, Dan, the manager, said don't be silly, I'll print out what you need here! What a life saver. Overall this is a great space to pop into if you need work room for a day, a week, or on a more permanent basis. Highly recommend! Thank you for your hospitality new friends.

There are co-working spaces like wework and industrious with a lot better amenities and atmosphere but smaller private rooms. I chose the yard in spite of seeing obvious cleanliness issues only because I liked the sun-facing room. I was ready to compromise with the amenities for a better room. I was told that the room was not ready not when I signed the agreement but when I arrived with my stuff. I was given an ETA of 2 weeks but the room was not ready in 3 weeks. Moreover, the 5th floor where my room was situated was very untidy. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes for the whole 2 weeks and I had to go to a different floor to get cups and cutlery. The bathroom bins are always full of tissues. The office is about a quarter full and I have not seen anyone except 2 other people on my floor, it is not difficult to keep things clean. There is constant machinery noise on the 5th floor and it is a migraine hell if you don't have good noise cancellation headphones. I asked if a standing desk was available and I was given a faulty one with a slanting keyboard counter with missing screws, I raised this and the community manager just checked, fiddled with the counter and never got back to fixing it. I consider myself a low-maintenance person but my experience in the first 2 weeks was of shockingly very low quality while I was paying upwards of 1000 dollars per month. The "head of experience" was looped in my exit email in which he was supposed to gather feedback and see if I could change my decision, he never reached out of course! This office is less than a quarter full and I know at least 10 people who are looking for a good co-working space, the yard can do a lot better business if they get their shit together!
