However, nothing prepares you for that moment you step off the train to begin your journey towards this property (especially if you're not use to it.) Complete culture shock--an obvious crime and drug area....nonetheless, I made it! The owner was awesome but I couldn't help but notice the stench throughout the place. The space itself has possibilities but in definite need of "the queer eye" . I wish I could work with the owner on just basic upkeep: fresh coats of paint, get some incense, febreeze, candles going, keep the outside of the building swept and smelling nice, make it look tended. I visited this place twice because I believe in making the most out of the least but in all integrity-- I couldn't put potential guests through potential dangers. Again- great heart, great price, awesome owner..but the soul of the place needs a Polish. Note to the owner: I'm not one to just talk: so if you ever need some ideas to make this place the best it can be, help with upkeep, etc don't hesitate to reach out. I have over 12 years of property management/customer service. I have so much hope for the papermill. It's a godsend and has potential of becoming a "go to!"

I spend at least 40 hours a week in the Papermill and I'm constantly inspired by the neighborhood…read moreand the artists. Karyn, the manager (or guru), is completely obsessed with having true artists (not "i have a studio" people) fill the space while expanding the community network. The neighborhood has changed dramatically in the three years since the Papermill has opened, and working there makes me feel that I have power to not only affect my personal aesthetic, but to affect a worthy cause: the coalition of the honest, versus the treacherous.

The Community Arts Center is tucked away down a local street, and I was concerned that I was lost--thankfully not the case. I had a great visit. The building feels like a living, breathing tribute to art. There are multiple floors for hosting classes and events. There is a kiln for firing pottery on site. Even the grounds are beautiful, with lots of art and sculptures resting around the walkways outside. The Tea Bowl Exhibition was very well done. I bought a ticket for a Japanese tea demonstration, which was really interesting and enjoyable. I thought I'd be at the Arts Center for an hour, but I stayed much longer to check everything out. If I lived closer, I'd definitely look into taking classes here. For now, I look forward to my next visit for an event or exhibition.

I wanted to try something new out of the ordinary and found the right class in this place, ZENTANGLE. Marie (instructor) guides each student into different levels of awareness, meditating thru lines, figures and shades becoming a complete drawing. She begins with breathing exercises and leads you as soothing music is played in the background. The class is a couple of hours and trust you'll leave there relaxed and proud of yourself. You don't need to know how to draw or have any particular talent to getaway in your own piece of art. I give it 5stars because of Marie's unique techniques, close parking, picturesque campus, clean bathrooms, and ZENTANGLE's ballroom classroom in the 2nd floor is quite elegant, each corner says a story. Must experience.
