I often ride my bike down here from Glenelg and the ride is fabulous topped off by stopping for coffee at Joe's what could be better! Joe's is definitely an institution in Henley Beach, frequented by local celebrities and politicians having a quiet time out. Joe is a celebrity himself, everyone knows him and he certainly knows all the regulars. He loves to have a chat and put little Baci chocolates on the ladies coffees and gives out the odd chuppa chupp to the kid's of the regulars. Joe's daughter, Bianca, is delightful also and usually working in the cafe keeping Joe on track. The coffee is delicious and if you are into toasted sandwiches, his are the best I have ever tasted. The location is heaven, the beach here is pristine and, in summer there is a constant stream of people walking up the steps to order some refreshments. If you are looking for a place to have a coffee while the kids play safely on the beach this is as good as it gets. I love sitting at the outdoor tables soaking up the sun and atmosphere of the cafe and the beautiful surrounds. Word to the wise, in winter if the weather is bad Joe's is often closed as there is no indoor seating. Heaven on the beach.

Except I went there the other Friday when it was 37 degrees in December and it was closed! Would have thought it to be open but apparently not, I am not sure why as there was no note. But other than that, when I have been here, the experience has been lovely and Joe is a really nice genuine guy.

It's got a very relaxed atmosphere about it - a lot of people flipping through newspapers and magazines and quiet murmuring sets it apart from the hustle and bustle of other cafes. I've had a few coffees here before, and they were reasonably good. They also make fresh fruit smoothies, but the mango smoothie I tried was quite tart, so I'd exercise caution with regard to the fruits you choose. The staff is very friendly and chatty, and they can't be faulted for the excellent service. The shame about this cafe is that it has virtually no outdoor seating with the exception of one table. It's squeezed against the wall on the narrow footpath lining the store fronts, and only a few feet away from the car park. Whilst the interior is relatively nice, there is no chance of properly enjoying a coffee on a sunny day outdoors, as the number of people brushing by you and the endless cars coming in and out of the car park will really piss you off. I feel that if this cafe was located elsewhere, perhaps even on the other side of the street, it would garner a larger customer base, better ambience and an overall better experience for the patron.

The layout and design of this new, modern, spacious, delightfully thought out cafe, has every thing a modern Cafe should have, resulting in a very relaxing enjoyable experience. The menu is extensive with some wonderful food options. We enjoyed a very well made coffee, with a grilled wrap, two for $10 great a good value lunch. The service was excellent, as we enjoyed free WiFi and a read of the Adelaide News Paper. As time goes on, and the word gets out, this Cafe will get busy as it is located on the Unley road shopping area.

I think this is a really great thing for Aldgate. Kind of stepping up and showing the Community it is ok to change your image. I hope that a lot of the neighbouring businesses take note. For too long has the Adelaide Hills been old and outdated. Over the last 5 years we have seen some impressive changes. This is one of them. The décor inside is really well planned. All the colours work together, green being their spark of colour. And certain little touches of green are really clever. For example, I brought my dogs along to the café and I was handed two green bones on a plate for them to enjoy! How sweet is that? Do you know any other cafes that offer your pups a treat? Not many that is for sure! The menu is simple, but well thought out. I ordered the DIY Brekkie, which you have poached eggs and toast as the base and you can add other items. I decided on haloumi and avocado. Eggs were cooked prefect. But only one slice of bread? It was quite a costly meal of over $20, so I thought I would get two slices at least. Oh well... My partner tried the truffle scrambled eggs. Which I thought was much better value. So much flavour and cooked really well. Fluffy and not overdone! I am glad to see this café in Aldgate. I am sure the Community will love it. As for myself, I will try a few more items on the menu.

I don't mind paying for quality, however, I think it is a tad outrageous to charge customers $12 for two eggs on toast or $23 for smashed avocado which came with two eggs. Getting over the initial shock, we queued up to order. It was the longest wait for the amount of people in the line. Not sure why the staff taking the orders was so slow. It became apparent that a second staff was needed. Food came intermittently, which is understandable as we didn't order together. Having said that, one of the ladies who ordered first had to wait till everyone received their food before hers came. Hangry would aptly described her emotions. The food was delicious! I had the croque monsieur. Never heard of it before, I took a gamble and was pleasantly surprised. Other dishes included a little of a lot, smashed avocado, mushrooms on toast and the Frederick special. Really glad we stopped here for brunch. It is definitely popular. Well, luckily we decided to drive the extra 17km to Birdwood because Pomegranate Cottage is a truly lovely place! They have a very cute outside garden, with a fountain and surrounded by lots of trees and flowers so on a sunny day it's probably the best place you can find in Birdwood for lunch. (Mind you the choice isn't that big either) Great setting, friendly service and a good selection of food, ranging from pies to salads, fish to meat and some sandwiches. I had the beef pie for $14, which came with a small salad (no dressing though) and fries. You could tell the pie was homemade and not coming from a freezer. Very tasty and in terms of size I think the dishes are alright for the prices they charge. One thing that bothered me very much though is that the waitress came clearing the plates of the 3 people that were with me while I was still eating. That's an absolute no-go and would be a reason for me not to go back. However, the food was very good so I still recommend the place.

The staff here are happy and friendly , the food is freshly made in the cafe and well displayed and presented - with a great cross section of food on their menu - catering for Vegetarians,Vegans, Coeliac and dairy free. ( the kitchen appears to be spotlessly clean) and the cafe itself has a warm and cosy feel to it. A bit disappointed at the cost versus size of the meal my experience was slightly tainted. But as I sipped on my Ginger Zinger drink that was like star anise and gingery lemon jesus juice in a cup I looked closer at the menu and at what people were eating. It seemed that their big pancake and their roti wraps are the way to go. Upon my return to give this place a second shot I ordered a vegetarian twist on a bacon and egg wrap and, despite a bucket load of sauce and a fair amount of oil, I was impressed. As Laura said though, aside from the Ginger Zinger, the other highlight here is the bowls of coffee they serve. I visit sleepy Semaphore quite a lot, as the old parent-shaped people live that way, and it was only relatively recently that I stumbled across this haven of Scandinavian delights. And I'm not just talking about the cute mustachioed barista. Complementing the birch tree wall art and Viking paraphernalia (I'm a huge sucker for Viking paraphernalia) is a tasty menu of baked goodies that are fresh, sweet and plentiful - as well as Swedish-inspired specialties like elderflower drinks and traditional waffles. Any country that has a TRADITION of waffles is all right by me. They seem to be undergoing renovations at the moment, but the place is still very cute, with kitschy Swedish accessories, some chandelier action, as well as the aforementioned radical Viking stuff. There always seems to be a queue here which is also a good sign - and, super importantly, the coffee is solid. ALSO: THEY SERVE COFFEE IN A BOWL. A bowl, people. Further evidence that this is my kind of place.
