The Leaf 'n' Bean is a sweet little spot secluded off the main street of Blackwood in a small…read morecollection of shops near the local Rec centre. The cafe channels a hipster vibe with mismatched furniture and an eclectic use of items as display cases, but the owners have really maximised the space here whilst allowing the patrons to have enough breathing room. Staff are friendly in store and always up for a chat and happy to give you their recommendations on food or tea blend options. The Menu has a good range of breakfast and light lunch options and vegetarians will find themselves relatively well looked after. I'm a big fan of their pancakes (which are really pikelets) as they are very generous on the portion sizes as well as topping options. The coffee here is a wee bit bitter for my own liking but their lattes are crazy creamy. The Litttle Leaf also mixes their own tea blends you can buy in store, whilst I'm not a tea drinker myself, friends have assured me it is top notch. The Leaf 'n' Bean also puts on regular events with live music, exhibitions and dessert nights on their cards. Worth the trip up the hill, check out their Facebook page to see what is happening instore.

Homemade cakes, muffins and slices (a large range of those being gluten free) taste like nanna has baked them herself. We tried the "Lemon Situation," GF Orange and Almond Cake and GF Apple and Rhubarb Crumble muffin thing and were all impressed and received our sweet quota for the week. The Iced Coffees were very creamy and rich with vanilla ice cream - made with real coffee but perhaps a tad too sweet for me. The atmosphere of this cafe is comfortable with a range of seating options from couches to large share tables and cushioned seats in the corner. They also have a lovely courtyard for sitting in during the day. The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive and seem to really love where they work. I didn't manage to try their breakfast or simple lunch options of soup, sandwiches and quiche etc on the menu but will definitely be back.

What an awesome little find this was, although I can't take credit for doing so (thanks Bec). It's…read morea cute (in a good way), cozy little spot with fresh, tasty, well priced food, a great range of drinks and friendly, welcoming service. Try the Caramel Shake with a shot of espresso (Dirty Caramel Shake?) for something deliciously different and apparently the Insane Stack is amazing (if you like Avocado) although I couldn't go past the classic Eggs Benedict.

The decor is as the name suggests and quite simple but lots of seating with also spots outside. Magazines and papers to read if you get the time on the weekend. The food: I have had eggs benedict here, great sauce and well cooked eggs - the mexican nachos are to die for! SO yummy and not too spicy - they came as a recommendation from our waitress, Marie. She also suggested the mexican jacket potato but I went with nachos. :) Marie was very helpful, very patient with my indecisiveness! Also one of the few places that sell hot dogs! I have gone with the Hillbilly's special before with avocado, tomato, cheese and aioli and their special sauce - so delicious! I love a good hot dog and its a decent portion too. As you can probably tell, I have always had consistently good food here and I just love Blackwood so I come here often. I forgot to mention the juices are also pretty good - go the immune boost! Only negative is that the hours are not always consistent - the manager sometimes will close if its not busy. I completely understand but as a consumer this can make it hard to plan a visit.

Eire café (pronounced "air-ah") whose name is derived from the Irish word for Ireland, is owned and…read moreoperated by Irish (french pastry specialist) executive chef Stephen Lowery and his partner Zoi. The café is amazing in its own right, but has an offshoot business Eire Pies - which according to their website was a challenge brought by a customer to Stephen to make more savoury pies for his menu. Eire pies are now sold at Foodland supermarkets , Tony and Marks at Gelnunga and Brickworks as well as in the café itself; and have amazing flavours such as braised lamb and rosemary, duck curry, beef and potato and vegan chickpea and lentil. On top of this achievement, Eiri café also produce a wide range of delicious biscuits, cakes and patries, and do an amazing brunch ( 7:30am - 2:30pm on weekedays and 8:30-2:30pm on weekends). I have popped in a few times on the way to work and was impressed; but this Saturday we stopped for breakfast/brunch on the way to running some errands. I had the pancakes with banana, maple syrup and mascarpone and I added bacon to it because bacon and maple syrup just belong together. My partner had cornbread with spicy tomato salsa, grilled haloumi, poached eggs and she also added bacon. My pancakes were light fluffy and delicious, but quite filling. The bacon was cooked well and the whole meal made me very happy, with big generous slices of banana and a pot of maple syrup on the side). My partner's corn bread meal though, was the stand out. I'm definitely getting that next time. I have never tried cornbread like Eire's before. It was light and fluffy and I think it was deep fried, but not oily. Perfect. I'll be back, for pies, for breakfast and for coffee. Cheers guys.

But, if you love a great brekkie, brunch or lunch, check them out! Actually, you should go out of your way to check them out. My partner insisted that I give this café a go. He had tried some of their pastries before and loved them! In fact, this café sells their pies to Foodland Supermarkets. I have seen them in the Norwood one if you are interested. So, they are obviously doing a great job. The café has a good amount of space in it for a few groups of people. There is cute little collection of vintage items on tables and a pretty vertical garden inside. Eclectic in style. As for my brekkie, I had to order the corn fritters. I am so glad that I did, they were amazing! I have never had fritters like these before. They were deep fried, crispy and so super fluffy inside. They were topped with some tasty fried haloumi, greens and served with some fresh tangy salsa and cream. I was in the mood for some bacon as well, so I ordered that as an extra. I was so full afterwards though. I have to say, this is one of the best breakfasts I have had in a while. It really impressed me. Lot's of skill and love was put into this dish. I look forward to stop there again when I am in the neighbourhood.
