The Escape Effect was an excellent escape room experience and this is a recommendation coming from my family and I who are enthusiasts that have completed over 30 escape rooms. The theme and decor of the room we did (Encore) was well-designed and the puzzles were a lot of fun. The establishment is clean and the staff are kind. It is a locally owned mom and pop shop and the quality shows. The Escape Effect can adjust the challenge level of your room if so desired and they offer unlimited hints or none at all...basically they'll do whatever you want/need to ensure you have a great time. Excellent place! Not gonna lie, it was our first Escape Room. That said, it meant this experience had the chance to turn us off from ever doing another or make us fans. We are fans. This place was clean, stylish and well put together. The woman at the front desk was very friendly. Our room assistant very friendly. They allow unlimited hints here which as first timers we appreciated. Now we understand much better how these rooms work. The room and puzzles were well done. My tip is focus on one clue at a time and don't jump all over with your ADHD. Our assistant helped reign us in. Our teens were so excited excited we made it out. I would go here over the rooms in the parks any day. Beat the crowds and have a more personalized experience. read more

In response to Jamie S's (business owner) attempt to justify his ridiculous pricing and somehow argue that since I gave the game master the courtesy of not embarrassing them to their face with a barrage of criticisms that my review is somehow a false representation of my experience at the escape effect. I want to be clear that I don't appreciate your response and the overall professionalism with which you lack. Firstly: I am a huge fan of Ghostbusters and the mere fact that your website suggests that my being a fan might aid in my proclivity to enjoy this room is an abomination. Secondly, I've already said everything I need to say about how poorly this room was executed both in design and production (I.e. our lackluster attendant) but I just want point once more to your ridiculous pricing: To say that these prices are indicative of your location and to go further and say that this place is "on the strip" is a gross misrepresentation of the experience you're providing. The escape effect is on International Drive but to say it is on the strip is like saying the Orlando International Airport is in Disney World. Your business is close to the outlet mall and is easily 15 minutes from any action in Orlando traffic. Lastly you should be embarrassed for arguing with a customer over Yelp. If anything, take the criticism and take my candor in the moment and honesty on Yelp as an indication that I didn't want to berate an employee of yours for an experience that is ultimately your fault. Train your employees better and seriously consider deconstructing the awful room called "Fright Before Your Eyes". read more

*Update* - Our group's total rooms completed has climbed to 33 escape rooms thus far, and this business remains in my top 3 favorites. Originally we accidently found them while driving to another company. When we looked them up on Yelp, we saw people mention "Dan and Jamie" in the reviews, which we took to be a sign, since my name is Dan, and my sister's name is Jamie. So, we stopped in and tried their 90 minute At Odds With The Gods room, and we were so impressed. The décor was all awesome, it all fit the theme amazingly. All the puzzles were entertaining and fun, and their hint system was super cool. At Odds With The Gods is currently tied with 1 other room as my favorite escape room that I have done yet. We had so much fun at our first visit, that we ended up going back 3 days later to do Sherlock Studies, and we loved that game just as much. It was such an awesome time! Just recently we visited again for my mother's birthday, to try out their newest "Encore" room. The visuals in this room are like 100% spot on, making you really feel like you are actually in an old time theater. For our group, this room was a little trickier, but that was mostly because the décor and visuals are so well done, that it can be a little tricky trying to differentiate clues / tools from décor. Do not let that scare you though, nothing in the room is impossible, and as a whole, it is still a really fun room. They also even put a little something into the room as a birthday surprise for my Mom, which just made her day, and reminded us why locally owned businesses are the best! We will be back when they open some more rooms, and we will be recommending them to friends! Give them a try, you won't regret it. read more

Encore - mid 3/5 (Rank 101 / 156, a decent room, but didn't do enough to distinguish itself from a standard escape room) Encore is a fairly traditional escape room that's almost entirely combination lock based and features one somewhat interesting piece of tech that you'll use prominently throughout your time in the room. The puzzling was okay, but the non existent story and decent but mostly standard set resulted in this room being a fine, but not particularly unique experience. This room wouldnt be my first priority compared to the other rooms here, but it's a reasonable time if you're looking for a reasonable traditional game. Story - The game had a reasonable intro video, and not much story or world building during the game itself. This seems typical of the rooms around here, so it is what it is. Set - The set was good and a polished build of the backstage of the theater, but was a mostly non-interactive/static affair with lock boxes around the room. There was one set piece was interactive and added some much needed flair to the room - this was a simple thing in theory, but changed your perspective of the room and was used well in conjunction with the puzzles. This is the type of thing that I feels like distinguishes a room, but there wasnt enough of that. Puzzles - There were a lot of parallel puzzles to work on, but most of them are ones that enthusiasts will have seen before without a ton of twists. There were two unique parts of the room that made this feel a little more unique- the prop I mentioned earlier is used for a good amount of the puzzles in some way which was neat, and the games final puzzle involved some extra steps and felt satisfying to solve in a way similar to that of a puzzle hunt. I've done a dozen or so escape rooms. Each one is given its own personal touch by the creators that makes it unique. The creators at The Escape Effect clearly put a lot of love into creating their rooms. They are among the highest quality of all the escape rooms I've been to. The puzzles are interesting, clever, and carefully thought out. They employ clever use of technology without letting it intrude on your experience. Some of the puzzles are quite challenging, but the friendly staff is great about giving you just the right amount of help you need to strike a balance between challenge and fun. Some escape rooms at other places are scary or intimidating, but this was not the case at all here, so they can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages. Reservations are recommended. The rooms I played: Sherlock Studies had a familiar theme, but with a unique twist that I won't spoil here. I really enjoyed solving the mystery. Encore had a very unique theme that I've never encountered before, and I enjoyed that tremendously. And At Odds with the Gods was quite a spectacle to behold with very intriguing challenges. We did the Sherlock Studies escape and it was super challenging, but really fun. It was actually our favorite escape place so far. Tia was really cool, friendly and helpful. It was rated as an 8 out of 10 for difficultly and in our group we had 2 amateurs and one person who was pretty good at figuring out puzzles and we finished with 4 minutes to spare.......great fun. We would definitely recommend the Escape Effect......5 stars for sure. read more

At first it's a little confusing because we don't know where to start and they just give you a back story maybe if they tell you where to kinda start off and let you go from there. Amazing escape room experience! I have never done an escape room before, and I went along with my boyfriend who has done well over 20 escape rooms and likes a well-themed room with challenging puzzles. We both enjoyed our experience with Escape Effect. The facilities are very clean and well kept, including the escape rooms themselves. We did the Sherlock Holmes themed room. When we needed hints, the attendants were very helpful and attentive. The clues and puzzles themselves were challenging, but not so difficult that they could not be completed. We beat the room with about 6 minutes to spare. I'll definitely be back to try one of their other rooms on my next trip to Orlando! read more

My family came to Orlando to visit Disney, but we found real magic about 10 minutes away at the Escape Effect. We have done rooms all over the English-speaking world and it is not often we are amazed, but Escape Effect's Knight to Escape was something new! It was a 120 minute immersive experience that had us puzzled, flummoxed and spellbound. I cannot recommend it enough! Make sure you show up ready to put your communication skills to the test! We did their Sherlock room, great theming! The room looked so good, the puzzles flowed into each other very well, and combined a to make one big puzzle very well. I loved their hint system which allows you hints only when a timer has refreshed but all free, instead of the 3 free hints then penalty for more. We booked the time we wanted online and when we got there they immediately greeted us and we began! It was super difficult but they give as many hints as you want/need. The Escape Effect theatre game is a beautifully designed escape room packed with creative puzzles in a gorgeous setting. As a theatre nerd I got a bit giddy upon entering the game. It actually looks like a backstage area in a theatre. The puzzles are cleverly hidden throughout the game. Part of the challenge is to figure out your path along the way. One of my favorite things about this escape room is the lighting design. I've never seen anything quite like it in an escape room. I found the game quite challenging but incredibly fun. It is a well done game with a lot of heart. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys escape rooms, the theatre, or puzzles. read more

WOW! These rooms are incredible! We've done all four now and cannot say enough good things about the rooms and the staff (only bad thing is we cannot go back now that we've done them all!). Our favorites are Fright Before Your Eyes and A Knight To Escape, highly recommend these for seasoned escape room fans as the latter is rather difficult but sooo worth it. I have done 2 escape rooms here: A Knight to Escape and At Odds With the Gods. Both rooms were great. The Knight to Escape was the longest running escape game I've ever played (2 hours in length) and took a lot of communicating between holes in the walls. Therefore, it is a great game if your teammates are willing to listen, but if they just ignore you it can get frustrating. My fiancé listens to me so I finished it juuuussst fine. At Odds with the Gods was a truly entertaining experience. It was loaded with puzzles and easy to navigate. My team of 5 was plenty to solve every puzzle without asking for a hint and we even finished the game with 23 minutes left. Upon completion of a game, if you book the next game within 24 hours of playing (to whatever date you want up to a year in advance) you get 25% off for every player. I tend to book the game a month or 2 away and pay for the minimum number of players, and then make anyone else who wants to join in pay on the day of. They still the the 25% off! They also have a Florida Local 15% discount if it's your first game and you can't the 25% discount. Just show them your drivers license and every player (even non-Floridians) get the discount. My next game is booked (Fright Before Your Eyes) and it's also 90 minutes in length. We'll see how that one goes! read more

I played their game At Odds with the Gods and I loved it! Impressive gameplay. It was challenging enough to keep you on your toes, but not so much so that you just feel frustrated. All the other escape games I've played are either too easy or impossibly hard. This one is definitely my favorite escape game I have played yet! Also, just a tip for this game: I had 5 other people in my group and we just BARELY beat the clock, so I would recommend going with at least that many other people in order to win. read more

We had a blast! We did the 'fright before your eyes' room. The theming and story were great. Working in the dark (w/ flashlights) made the experience feel very different than other escape rooms we've done. I will admittedly say I was concerned when we first arrived. We waited in the lobby for about 10-15 minutes before anyone assisted us. We actually had to call the main # to get someone's attention. Even after that experience, I still give it 5 stars. It's pricey, but for the room we did and the time we invested (one and a half hours) it was well worth it. read more

My wife and I, along with our 3 teenage kids played the A Knight To Escape room recently while we were vacationing in Orlando. We all had a great time! The way this room was set up was completely unique to any other escape room we have done. It forced us all to work together to complete it. It is also the first one where we were allowed two hours to complete, which we ended up needing just about every minute of it. Lol. The time flew by and was over before we knew it. The staff was kind and professional and the experience was worth every penny. I would love to return sometime in the future and try another one of their rooms. We have only done one room here and can only speak to this room. We did fright before your eyes. The first two rooms we opened up almost immediately so we were really only playing in one room. One wasn't even really a room it was a door that went to a stairway. Anyways there was really no rhyme or reason to any clue. You could pretty much just guess and get a clue correct without actually discovering something that led to the clue. We had an hour and a half to finish the room and finished in under an hour. This room is double the price of normal escape rooms and didn't feel challenging at all. It's super dark in there and you have to rely on one person to use what should help you to find clues. Our flashlights kept running out of battery and it was incredibly hard to hear anyone when we did ask for a clue. The theming of the room could have been really cool, it just didn't really make sense overall and was too easy to escape from. read more

Having successfully completed over 40 escape rooms in 2 states, the "knight to escape" room was a major let down. Being bragged about as a 6% escape average, the room was relatively well done until the last "puzzle" which was a 9x9 sudoku puzzle comprised of crosses that all looked very similar to each other. That's where the 6% comes from. Couple that with it being solved in a room with barely any light is bound to make anyone frustrated. It wouldn't have been so bad if the two rooms had more equally distributed puzzles in the beginning, as well as so many time consuming tasks (I.e. running a key along a rope from one room to the next, then around the ENTIRETY of that room to unlock a single lock which contained a couple of the 81 blocks used in the sudoku). Also the game master either wasn't paying attention to us or was just bad at giving guidance. He took almost a minute to respond each time and we could barely hear him. Also his hints were always telling us what puzzle we were working on, which we already knew and he would have known if he had been paying attention. 81 block sudoku an escape does not make. The Sherlock room was good though. read more
