I paid for a consultation with this firm seeking strategic legal advice regarding an intense…read moreworkplace dispute involving documented manager misconduct and severe retaliation. Unfortunately, the counsel I received from Nicholas Woodfield was incredibly shallow, and his conduct was entirely unprofessional. When discussing an escalation strategy regarding corporate misconduct, the attorney gave me narrow, bare-minimum technical advice regarding harassment definitions, even incorrectly referencing a non-existent "Employment Rights Act of 1964" instead of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. When I tried to interject to let him know I was already fully aware of these basic concepts, he cut me off and said, "Just let me finish." He completely failed to address the broader context of retaliation law, temporal proximity, or the legal leverage a documented paper trail creates against wrongful termination. Furthermore, his analysis completely missed the critical distinction between a narrow statutory lawsuit and corporate governance liability. He failed to see how a meticulously documented paper trail of executive misconduct--such as a CEO manufacturing a fraudulent performance record, prioritizing manual volume over operational utility, and abusing corporate channels to interrogate an employee--creates massive, direct liability for a Board of Directors. Instead of recognizing that a broken internal HR chain and an erratic executive constitute a severe fiduciary and operational risk to an organization, he focused entirely on a retail courtroom vacuum. When discussing presenting my documentation to the Board, he gave a lazy, fear-based warning that the Board could simply turn around and fire me. Yet he completely failed to analyze the other side of that equation: what legal and corporate-governance consequences could arise once the Board was formally placed on notice of documented executive misconduct and then failed to adequately address it. He never walked me through the potential significance of Board knowledge, subsequent retaliation, corporate ratification, negligent retention or supervision, or potential fiduciary-duty implications. Those were precisely the kinds of legal risks and leverage I was paying an employment attorney to identify. What makes this lack of analysis even more appalling is the attorney's own published professional record. His firm highlights his representation of Donna Jackson in a major retaliation case resulting in a restored $650,000 jury verdict, involving adverse employment actions after an employee reported discrimination. His firm also highlights his representation of Matthew Drake in an appellate whistleblower case establishing, under the federal Whistleblower Protection Act, that a whistleblower did not need to prove an actual violation of law where the applicable reasonable-belief standard was satisfied. This attorney had substantial professional experience with both retaliation following internal reporting and the important distinction between proving an underlying legal violation and determining whether a disclosure can nevertheless receive legal protection. Yet he emphasized that the Board could fire me and that the underlying conduct I described was not illegal, without meaningfully analyzing whether my existing or contemplated disclosures could qualify for protection under the laws applicable to my situation. The sophistication reflected in his own published case history was completely absent from the consultation I paid for. To make matters worse, he interrogated me with completely uncalled-for questions like "Why do you think he is acting like this?" and "Why are you working there?"--subtly shifting the burden onto me rather than analyzing the documented facts. He even trivialized documented executive misconduct by reducing it to a personal claim - saying that it seems that my dad and I simply "don't get along." He capped it off saying that I "don't have to work there." I did not pay for a legal consultation to be psychoanalyzed and given excuses for executive misconduct. During our call, I directly told the attorney that he hurt me and was out of line. Instead of taking accountability, he completely dismissed my pain and followed it up with a fake apology. I paid for professional, comprehensive analysis of employee rights and corporate liability, but instead received a complete lack of thoroughness and a total absence of professional empathy. The consultation I had with Mr. Woodfield was a complete waste of time and money. If you are looking for an advocate who will thoroughly analyze your situation and treat you with basic professional respect, look elsewhere.

Beyond Belief Incredible Attorney Who Cares and Works!…read more I found Carol through a referral to handle my military case. She stuck with me for a year through so many of my personal and legal ups and downs, my emotions and health issues because of what happened to me, and she is truly remarkable. To see her in action is tremendous! I've watched an entire room while Carol was presenting and she's so quick with information in terms of citing regulations on the spot against speculative and unsubstantiated remarks coming from the other side. Truly in awe of her abilities. She is more than just an incredible person, but a great attorney. She translated everything to me in plain English, went above and beyond to protect me legally/physically without charging me the extra tens of thousands of dollars she deserved for working long hours on my case, and of course, we received the judgement I needed in order for me to feel safe and try to live my life after trauma. Not trying to be dramatic, but to whomever is reading this, know that Carol is the person you want on your side. I initially approached another attorney (not at this firm) and he told me to "drop it," "don't pursue anything and move on." Carol never did that. She listened and believed in me. I unequivocally recommend Carol (Saroja and Daisy) as your next attorney. Specifically, if you need 5-star representation, go with Ms. Thompson post haste. Why? She is highly effective, brilliant, thoughtful, creative and most of all; she accomplishes the goal of zealous advocacy without insult, injury or raising her voice. She communicates as well to her client (me) often, as she does to judges. Furthermore, her working knowledge of legal standards and your issues - even if based on first impression - is first-class. When? If you have a current attorney (fire them, I mean that with all sincerity), retain her and thank me later. Not all attorneys are created equally. If you are looking for an attorney, bring her on board immediately. I witnessed first hand, her ability to digest voluminous information - distill what was relevant and irrelevant and make cogent arguments. That goes double in a small area where the paucity of effective counsel leaves much to be desired. You have a diamond in the rough with Carol and her team. She does not use superfluous words or enter anything into evidence to make the case for opposing counsel. She understands the burden of proof and uses it effectively and surgically. Background? For context (what is it worth), I never write reviews. Everyone's situation is different. I also put little opinion in the faith of others. However, Carol's representation was so beyond perfection, that I believe I owe it to everyone reading this, that you hire her immediately. What's more, if it matters, I have used five attorneys now, so I believe I know what good and bad lawyering looks like (or should like). Carol represented me in a sensitive matter. She took the matter to its logical conclusion and prepared me and represented my interest before the tribunal very well. First, her legal acumen is without peer. Opposing counsel, while over-matched, was a worthy adversary. Nevertheless, she objected when necessary. She also did not do anything to showboat or appease me for the sake of "getting even". Additionally she made well-reasoned, articulated and ultimately effective arguments on my behalf. Second, her demeanor is even keel. Her temperament is the same. She knows how to calm you down, while also laying the crumbs for the trier of fact to find in your favor. To conclude, her sunny disposition is just who she is; a good-hearted person. However, do not let that disarm you, she is legally lethal when necessary. That said, if you need to win and "beat the case," Carol is who you should go with immediately. Highly, highly recommend Carol and her team. --Very Sincerely, Retired [and now safe] Air Force Veteran.

Days before my hearing with the Administrative Judge, I realized that I was in way over my head and may need legal representation. I contacted numerous law firms, all proclaiming to be experts in handling EEOC cases, but none of them would allow me to even speak to an attorney without first signing a contract. I reached out to The Law Firm of John P. Mahoney and spoke at length with Attorney John Mahoney. After hearing the facts of my EEOC case, he explained the legal process in excellent detail, and in terms that were easy for any lay person to understand. He outlined the legal fees and provided realistic expectations for the outcome going forward, with and without, legal representation. I immediately hired the firm and Attorney Michael Mierau was assigned to my case. Mr. Mierau successfully postponed the formal hearing date and opened settlement negotiations with my Agency. As I suspected, Agency leadership were arrogant and had dug their heels in deep with complete disregard for any settlement negotiations. Mr. Mierau took them on, armed with his expert knowledge of the law and superb negotiation skills. Long story short, Mr. Mierau successfully negotiated from the Agency's initial offer and quadrupled it. Finally, two weeks after my final settlement agreement with the Agency was approved by the Administrative Judge, the full settlement amount was deposited into my checking account. I would highly recommend the Law Firm of John P. Mahoney and Attorney Michael Mierau. My only regret is that I did not hire them earlier in the EEOC process. The best money I have ever spent!

You seem to be a very competent lawyer whom I was hoping to hear me and represent my case. I was very excited to speak with you today after trying well over a month to have a conversation. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed to hear how quickly you were dismissive without even hearing all of what I had to say about my case and trying to discourage me by throwing number like 200k to represent me with a 1% chance of winning. I understand that it might be costly to represent a person, but from the beginning of the conversation, I felt as if you didn't want to hear anything I had to say and just wanted me to stop. All I wanted was justice for the wrong that was done to me and acquire a lawyer to represent me in the right way and I thought that you were that lawyer because of your experience and expertise with matters of this nature. It became apparent that you didn't want to represent me and you have every right to just say no. I just wish that you would have just taken my call back in July and told me that you weren't interested so that I could have found another competent lawyer. I know this will more than likely fall on deaf ears, but I felt the need to address how disappointed I was with our conversation and hope that you don't treat others like this.
