I have been a Realtor since 1994 and was introduced to Soo Keithley and Keithley Law several years ago when representing a Buyer and the Seller and their Realtor was less than honest in their dealings. As I was unable to resolve the dispute with the Realtor or his Broker, we needed to seek legal advise on how to proceed. Soo listened to our issues and knew exactly what to do in order to keep the Seller from selling to another Buyer who was willing to pay more (while Under Contract with us). Soo was able to stop the second sale and get the Seller to perform on their Contract. Soo will keep in touch through the process, tell you exactly what she will do, and do what she says she will do. The best part of my experience, and the highlight of the entire experience was the initial consultation with Soo. She gave excellent direction and fully explained all options available. After this, I was assigned to another attorney within the firm. The representation itself was fine, but I did feel that there was unneeded back-and-forth at times, with each message being billed at a rate of 6 minutes, it all adds up. The tipping point was when I emailed asking if we could reach out to the other party's representation and also asked if there were any strategies to move toward a resolution. I received a response stating "It is good to hear from you. It probably makes sense for you to reach out to [other party regarding my question] and the need to reach a resolution. If you are able to reach an agreement, then we can help you to memorialize its terms." I was surprised when I was charged for this, and when I asked if I was being charged, I was ignored. Finally, when I asked to end my relationship with the firm and requested a refund of my retainer, the amount billed for the aforementioned email response was deducted. While it was only ~$40, my question was not even answered. I was offered a 15 minute consultation at a later time, but since I'm no longer a client, asked if that was something I would even be able to use. A week later and I have not received a response. I would be cautious of this firm if your situation is not cut and dry and to whom you are assigned. In my experience, Soo Keithley is fantastic, but others may leave you wanting for more. read more

I had a long relationship with Soo and her firm for representation in my divorce issues. I recommend you look elsewhere. Let's just say I have experience now with other divorce attorneys in the area, and it's worth your time to keep looking because you can do much better. A lot of the other posters' negative experiences with Soo and her firm are very familiar and similar to my own. In my opinion, professionalism is a huge issue with this firm. Ultimately and I cannot emphasize this enough -- this firm became just as, if not more, stressful to deal with than the high conflict divorce I was embroiled in. I was invited by the firm to write a review and I have decided to take them up on the offer. But, I believe it is important to ensure that the public receive a fair and honest assessment, so here are some pros and cons of Keithley Law... Pros: - Although expensive, they did good work a few years ago. - They are generally competent attorneys. - They are generally responsive (especially when it is a billing opportunity). Cons: - Returning was a mistake. - Very unprofessional. - They fashion themselves as experts in handling high conflict personalities, but they themselves are extraordinarily high conflict... with their own clients. - They unapologetically run up bills often double billing for routine tasks, they charge multiple high billing rate people on minor matters without authorization or informing the client, they bill for social calls, and also bill for their mistakes (both in making the error and then to fix it). To rub salt in the wound, they will add another unjustifiable 7% "administrative fee" for things they separately bill to further compound morally strained billing practices. - To mask their iniquitous billing, once called out they will create entries just to "write them off." - If you ever question them on a legal strategy or billing matter, they will attack you (yes, they will attack their own clients) and then they will cut you off acting like a two year old throwing a tantrum. - Often they are more interested in fawning over and catering to opposing counsel, than representing the interests of their clients. - Would rather fight with you about what you want from the case than advocating for you, which of course wraps back in to the billing escalation. In summary, they are not nearly what they were a few years ago. As such, the quality of legal advice does not warrant the pain of working with them, enduring the lack of professionalism, or the excessive billing. Prior reviews show that Keithley Law has no compunction with attacking or threatening legal action against reviewers, which kind of proves the point about the lack of professionalism and highly combative nature. I wish I could give this law firm 0 stars. Dealing with these people, especially Ms. Keithley, was a NIGHTMARE! They are the most UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL law firm my husband and I had to ever deal with. They took our case and then withdrew representation for no particular reason and without notification (we never received anything!). We stood there with a court date and almost $2000 in attorney fees with no positive outcome at all. This law firm has very high turnover as well, and I am not surprised at all! I am in the process of filing a complaint with the VA State Bar along with another individual that had a similar experience with this law firm. Because I was threatened via e-mail with a lawsuit by Ms. Keithley very shortly after posting my Yelp! review for sharing (what I felt in my opinion) was a very negative experience, I am removing my previous review as I don't want to deal with a lawsuit at this time. I am not removing my review because I believe I was wrong with what I wrote, but only because I am being threatened with a lawsuit. Please do not use this law firm. I was told that I would be charged a certain price for legal work, then was billed for almost twice that amount. Dawn is an absolutely fantastic attorney. She listened to my concerns, promptly and thoroughly answered my many, many questions, and walked me through the entire process. She helped me understand what the law allowed and, given my situation, what I would reasonably see as the outcome. She told me what options I could pursue and encouraged me to follow the one that would have the best long and short term outcome - and (not surprisingly) she was absolutely right! It went as amicably as it could possibly go, and we reached an agreement that we filed with the court instead of having a decision "imposed" on us that one or both sides might not have been as happy about. Her guidance not only led to an agreement that both sides found more than acceptable, but it also saved us the time and expense (and unnecessary stress) of long and drawn out litigation.
