5 stars for The Best Music at one of the best dive bars I ever been to in my life. Saw the Upsahl and King Mala concert here. Both musicians were beyond epic. The place was overcrowded yet we were able to enjoy the music 100%. So I am giving this place 5 stars despite the hard to deny flaws of such a place. Weighing the pros and cons of such a place is very easy. Epic music & wonderful service trump the not so hard to ignore flaws of this place. Parking was easy to find and free. We had to walk a little, yet it was a pleasant small stroll. The CoNS: Limitations in restrooms. The lines for the one bathroom were stretched out yet the bathroom was not so bad. Drinks were pricey. The bartenders took care of me efficiently and instantly. No Diet Coke or diet soda. I opted for an ultra michelob- $7 for a can. I should have selected water instead.

I was a little scared by the pictured initially. My sister and I (20 & 18) were traveling from Ohio for the Peter McPoland concert here, and I was a little nervous coming into it. Once you arrive though, staff is SO friendly and helpful. My sister overheated and everyone was so kind. They do a great job at making sure everyone is safe, especially at a venue that is dominated by teenage girls haha! Only thing was it wad extremely hot! Great great venue!!!

The last time I visited The End I wasn't a Yelper and was seeing a friend perform for a mostly empty venue. Then came Indie band Frankie Cosmos and the hipsters rejoiced and sold out the show (much to my surprise). I really like this venue. It's dark and dirty, just the way a small Nashville music venue should be for locals who don't want to hear country music. This place is pure rock and roll my friends and they don't give a ----. It was packed and HOT when I was here a few weeks ago for the show. Thank goodness I didn't wear jeans this time. The AC could not keep up and it was August. Woof. Luckily I was too busy rocking out to really care. And I'm obsessed with their grungy purple bathroom for some reason. It just spoke to me and made me very happy. Only reason I'm docking a star is because they are beer and cash only. I appreciate some variety and not everyone likes beer, so that left me a bit disappointed during an otherwise incredible show.

The End has long lived in the shadow of its larger counterpart, The Exit/In, which can be found just across the street. Despite The End's more modest digs, I find it to be more charming and an all-around better spot to grab a beer and see an unassuming rock show. The End is basically one room divided into three often cramped sections. The bar is toward the back and makes for a good spot to lay low and catch your breath if the place is more slammed than usual. Beer is dirt cheap, though the selection is modest. While you probably won't see the enormous touring acts that often grace The Exit/In with their presence, The End is an absolute must for popular local bands, and you can often catch comedy shows and DJs if you keep up with their schedule. Probably the most exceptional feature at The End, however, is the sound. Run by Bruce (you can't miss him), the mix at this little dive is possibly the best in Nashville. Speaking as someone who has played and seen shows all over the city, I have to tell you that you won't hear a more unadulteratedly clean and pure board mix anywhere. Being tucked right in the middle of Elliston Place makes for a good evening, and you can always skip down to the Goldrush or the Corner Bar for a shot if you're sick of swilling cheap beers. The End also has a nice but somewhat busted little patio for smokers. The door on the men's restroom, however, has never seemed to fully shut. I suppose that's just the price you pay at an authentic dive bar.

Intimate venue. It's small but cozy. Nice workers. Offer alcohol. Super fun venue for a concert. You get to be really close to the artists.

Has a super cool vibe. But it is so small and so dirty! There wasn't even soap in the bathroom.

But if you're looking for an authentic, old-school Nashville music experience, this IS the place! It's crowded. It's hot. Personal space does not exist. Claustrophobics should plan accordingly. The night we were there, they had a bluegrass jam going, and it was fantastic. Close your eyes and you could imagine yourself sitting in some West Virginia holler listening to a bunch of incredibly talented musicians just playing because they love to play. It was uncomfortable, crowded, hot, completely authentic--and I enjoyed every minute of it. The Station Inn is Nashville the way you hope Nashville still exists.

Once inside, people make a mad dash to claim their seats, and they squeeze in as tight as they can. Popcorn, Jack's-like pizza served on paper plates and buckets of beer are available, and the line is long. The music here IS phenomenal, without a doubt. That alone is worth the visit, but be prepared to wait in line and feel like a sardine stuffed in a tin. Not for the claustrophobic,

If you are up for a full dinner, the food is second to none. For many years I went to hear the great John Johnthis, and was so excited to hear that Terrific Terri is now holding down the fort. The first time I heard Terri play and sing was at a wonderful restaurant in Green Hills -- since gone the way of all flesh. I told Terri after the show "I'll bet your parents were shocked when you came into the world White and Blonde." (She told me later that was the finest compliment she had ever received.) Of course, I said that, because she covers Dionne Warrick like no one I have ever hear, and get's down on the Blues. It is hard to say whether Terri is a better singer or jazz pianist. She is simply terrific at both. Terri has a great personality and talks to the audience between tunes, which is both enlightening and entertaining. So I am awarding V'Lounge Five Stars and look forward to my next vist.
