The store layout includes seasonal recipe cards placed throughout to spark creativity, and they send you a coupon on your birthday. This shop is a fantastic option for gifting. These spices would make an excellent present for any cook you know. Personally, I would love a gift basket from this place. To top it all off, the customer service is excellent. I spoke with Scott, he had the exact welcoming, magnanimous and knowledgeable vibe that you would want in a spice advisor. He made a great visit even better. I've been a fan of NYBS's restaurant since they opened, and my husband and I would visit at least…read moreonce a month for dinner.  Unfortunately, after a few recent bad experiences, we won't be returning.   My biggest issues recently have been - * Excessive salt on the Salmon BLT sandwich and meatballs - formerly, two of our favorite dishes * Smoked salmon fonduta - heating smoked salmon made this a fishy, unpalatable appetizer * Hamburger overcooked and dry, even with the added (very thinly sliced) cheddar cheese * Soggy fries * Crabcake aioli too sweet * Not enough servers to handle the demand in the restaurant, and we've noticed some turnover, too   I appreciate that NYBS offers reasonably priced specials and beverages, but their food quality has declined significantly since we first started eating there.  The only things we still enjoy are the steak flight, wings, and gouda and bacon macaroni and cheese.  It pains me to say this, but we are done. The decline in food quality and inattentive service have removed this restaurant from our rotation.

Over the course of planning, I had multiple conversations with both previous management and the current events team making it explicitly clear that the food for our event needed to be gluten-free and that there was also a shellfish allergy to accommodate. Unfortunately, the experience we received was nowhere near what I expected after that amount of planning and communication. We had approximately 40 guests seated in a section in the back of the restaurant, while there were maybe three or four other occupied tables in the entire restaurant. Our group appeared to have one server. Drink orders were barely taken, and guests eventually had to go to the bar themselves to get drinks. The appetizers were served buffet-style, which was not what I expected for a prepaid sit-down rehearsal dinner. I personally asked the owner three separate times to please move the appetizer plates to the tables and place appetizers on each table instead. My requests were ignored, and the buffet-style setup continued. Dinner service was equally disappointing. Orders were taken sporadically, dishes arrived cold, the pasta was severely undercooked, and the chicken was bland and lacked even basic seasoning. Most concerning of all, I was served gluten more than once. I was the bride who booked and paid for the event, and I had repeatedly communicated that gluten was an allergy--not a preference--and that the food needed to be prepared accordingly. After nearly a year of planning and multiple conversations specifically about dietary restrictions, this was unacceptable. Two of my guests eventually spoke with the woman overseeing the evening. During the conversation, she stated that there wasn't anything more she could do because she was "just the manager." However, I later confirmed that she is actually the owner of Acqua Ragazza--her name and photograph are listed on the restaurant's own website identifying her as such. That made the response particularly disappointing because we were under the impression at the time that we were speaking with a manager who did not have the authority to do anything further. After considerable back-and-forth and an initial reluctance to take accountability, she ultimately apologized to me, comped the wine, and provided a $300 gift card. I appreciate that an apology and some compensation were eventually offered, but neither changes what happened. This was our rehearsal dinner, an event we only get once. Instead of being able to enjoy the evening before my wedding, I was embarrassed by the service and worried about whether the food I was being served was actually safe for me to eat. I will not be returning to Acqua Ragazza, and I will be giving the gift card away. For anyone considering hosting a large event here, particularly if anyone in your party has food allergies, I would strongly recommend taking my experience into consideration.

Upon opening the box in anticipation, I saw that there was a sandwich, cookie, potato salad, and condiments. First, I ate the potato salad, which was very good. It tasted like home made. Then I opened the sandwich. it was larger than I expected. It was like a 6" sub format. It turned to be a smoked ham sandwich with a touch of Carolina BBQ sauced drizzled on it. It looked and smelled amazing. The first bite sent me into orbit. Wow, I thought! This was a fast food sandwich? And the ham tasted like it had been smoked for hours and hours. Wait, it was! We were told there was a large party in the back that had already paid and finished eating but was still sitting at the table. I completely understand that asking a paying customer to leave can be an uncomfortable situation, but when a large group has finished their meal and remained for another 30+ minutes, it ultimately meant more than 10 other parties were waiting to be seated. It feels like a lose-lose situation for the restaurant either way, but I do think management needs to have a plan for situations like this. The wait was especially frustrating because we were given a much shorter estimate initially. I'd also love to see them start accepting reservations -- it would make the experience much easier to plan around. Now, for the important part: the food! Once we were seated, everything came out quickly, hot, and delicious. We all started with the Caesar salad, which was well-dressed, flavorful, and a great classic way to start the meal. We each ordered a different entrée, and everyone loved what they got -- always a good sign when you're dining with a group! We finished with the cannoli, which was the perfect ending to a really nice meal. We will definitely return because the food was that good. I just hope management can address some of the front-of-house issues, particularly the long waits, enforcing reasonable table turnover when needed, and adding reservations. The food is worth coming back for -- hopefully the overall experience improves to match it!
