So, it's another mixed review. This could have been an easy 5 star, if the staff actually cared about me being there. They were awful to deal with. Food & Drinks: I like the fact that you take a table, order at the bar, and they deliver it to you. It makes it easy, and less stressful than having a wait-staff. To boot, you can hang out for awhile and not take up a servers table therefore preventing them for making money by not flipping the table. The menu isn't huge, but they do what they offer very good. The beer offerings are spectacular and they do offer flights of 5 where they charges about $2.75 a 4oz flight. Altogether, pretty solid. The Employees: Here is where the rating dropped. It all started when I went to order and the group in front of me was taking awhile. There were two other bartenders chit chatting for about five minutes until they said they could take the next customer. They just don't generally care about customers. Even the food runners were on their phones doing nothing at times. What really pissed me off, was that I received a discount with my food order as a "brewers lunch," which they said nothing about as I ordered a beer with my entree, but my wife didn't and they didn't tell her she could add a beer for about two bucks. The staff sucks. They don't care about the customers, they are fairly rude, lazy, and generally, just blah. Honestly, they ruined it for me to the point that I wouldn't mind dropping the rating more. May be back if I am in the area; hopefully, the entire staff is different. It's amazing how much a garbage service staff can ruin an otherwise pretty fantastic environment.

I love Southern Tier Brewing Company's beer, especially their Pumking (though their limited Rumking they bring out during Pumking Fest is legendary...) and overall had a fine time at their bar/restaurant at the brewery, The Empty Pint! Some family and I took a long weekend around Jamestown and we wanted to come to Southern Tier Brewing Co.'s brewery to round out our Saturday on Chautauqua Lake. We arrived around 5pm and the place was packed! We ended up parking in the grass and walking to the brewery. As we got closer, we could hear live music playing, which was cool at first. We walked in and were told to find a table and to take note of the number when we ordered food and beer. This is where we were a little confused though as we were able to find a table, although the number for it was missing but thankfully the woman cleaning it off told us what it was, and we thought someone would come out to us to grab our order. We learned after sitting there for about 15 minutes that wasn't going to happen, so I walked in and grabbed a photo of the beers on draft and a few paper menus with all of their food. At this point, the live band that was playing was way too loud! We could barely hear or talk to each other at the table and we were quite a bit away from the stage. To be honest, it really soured our time here as we just wanted to get out of the sun, enjoy some beer, eat some food, and have good conversations with a little bit of live music. My hope would be that moving forward, STBC turns the volume down a couple levels for the live bands... But, after looking over the menu, I went back in and placed our food and drink orders. The gentleman who took our order came off a little bit sharp, a little bit of an attitude to him. Thankfully for the rest of the evening, we didn't interact with him again and everyone I talked to was very courteous and friendly despite how busy they were! It took just about 10 minutes and our food was brought out to us by a friendly young woman. I ordered their pulled pork sandwich, which is topped with 2X IPA (their double-IPA) BBQ sauce and jalapeño slaw on a potato bun, served with a bag of Miss Vickie's Sea Salt chips. The sandwich was OK, nothing more. The pulled pork was not very tender but I did like the BBQ sauce on top. The jalapeño slaw was fine, nothing really noteworthy about it and it was as spicy as I thought it would be. Honestly though, I should have known better as usually breweries are better at serving appetizers and finger foods. I think we would've been better off ordering some pretzel sticks or their nachos. The amount of food was fine, but it's definitely meant to go along with one of their "shareable" menu items. Overall, we had a fine experience at STBC's The Empty Pint! Next time I'd avoid the food though and just stick with their beer. Plus, I'd probably want to avoid live music there, unless they turn the volume down a little. But I'll be back again, for sure, as there's nothing like grabbing a Pumking fresh on draft!

The sandwich was on custom bread which was the perfect combination of soft bread with a great crusty exterior. The three things I look for in a brewery are a dog-friendly outdoor space, accessibility to some good grub, and (of course) some quality beers. Riverside easily accomplishes all three. The venue is fantastic. Two spacious open dining rooms, one of which opens to an inviting outdoor patio. Take a few steps down and you're in another outdoor hangout that includes another bar and a stage for live music. I didn't take advantage of the food opportunities, but it smelled delicious. They have their own kitchen on the premises and seem to specialize in BBQ. The couple of plates I saw people enjoying made me regret my decision to have a hot dog at the golf course before coming here! They have a nice variety of brews to choose from and judging by the flight I finished, there's something for every taste. Beyond beer, they had cider, wine, and some hard liquors too (if I remember right). For sure I intend to try to convince Mama to visit for a night, get a room nearby, and sip on a few drinks on a warm evening when a band is playing. My rating scale: 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here

We had been…read morelooking for a brewery in Erie to visit after the Erie Marathon whenever Lavery Brewing popped up on Yelp. This place is large and has both outdoor seating on the side as well as plenty of indoor seating. The inside looked like a mix of cozy and industrial, with a long wooden bar stretching the length of the room, warm pendant lights hanging overhead, colorful beer boards on the wall, and shelves lined with bottles and glassware behind the bar. It had a relaxed but lively feel to it. After looking around to figure out where we wanted to sit, we ultimately chose the bar. For lunch on this day I chose to go with the pimento smash deluxxxe while my wife went with the pesto pizza. The menu described my meal as two smash patties, bacon, American cheese, pimento cheese, and onion rings on a brioche bun while my wife's was described as parsley basil pesto, triple cheese blend, fire roasted tomatoes with a balsamic glaze. I thought that the burger here was delicious as the patties were seasoned nicely and I appreciated the onion rings. While there was plenty of cheese and it was flavorful, I almost could have used more of the pimento. Then my wife liked her pizza here especially the pesto combined with the fire roasted tomatoes. Then for drinks, as I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Lavery Brewing, a flight consists of 6 beers and I chose the Active Recovery, Seeking Clarity, Lime n Cuke, Throwing Tropical Shade, Sound Mild, and Divine Intervention for my flight. I first started with the Active Recovery which was light and hoppy and very drinkable. Up second was the Seeking Clarity which had a clean start before a heavy dose of hops in the middle which surprisingly didn't linger. Third was the Lime n Cuke which has a strong cucumber smell and the drink itself is dry like most goses with a mild lime and stronger cucumber flavor. Fourth was Throwing Tropical Shade and you could really taste the orange and other tropical flavors with a finish flavor of coconut. For me this was a really delicious beer. Up fifth was the Sound Mild which was light but you got the nice flavor of those toasted malts at the finish. Last but certainly not least was the Divine Intervention which had a strong coconut flavor on the finish. Out of the bunch my favorite ended up being the Throwing Tropical Shade. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed the beverages and the food and we left both happy and stuffed.

Let me preface this by saying I've about had it with the so-called breweries popping up everywhere,…read moreeach one seemingly more committed to clichés than the last. You know the drill: no table service, order at the bar using a kiosk or an iPad, which makes you feel less like a customer and more like a data entry clerk. And don't even get me started on the servers who act like they're doing you a favor by taking your order. Then there are the long lines to order your drinks and food, which completely destroy any semblance of a pleasant customer experience. Waiting in a queue that resembles a theme park line just to get a drink ruins the whole vibe (this is an ABSOLUTE dealbreaker for us). Oh, and let's not forget the chaotic atmosphere--kids running amok, dogs, and live bands cranking out tunes that make it impossible to hold a conversation. It's a sensory overload that just isn't my cup of tea. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's get to the beer. We ordered a flight, which is the trendy way to say "sampler," and I must admit, one or two out of the six beers were decent--particularly the hazy IPA, which was a bright spot in an otherwise dull lineup. Most of the other brews were solid but forgettable, a far cry from the unique, crafted experiences that breweries claim to provide. Overall, we did enjoy the beer! As for the food, it was a parade of disappointment. We tried the garlic and Parmesan wings, shrimp tacos, and, of course, the infamous Bent burger. Ah, the Bent burger--a prime example of how a simple, delicious hamburger can be completely ruined by a slew of unnecessary toppings. Instead of sticking to the classic approach of a juicy patty, they decided to throw on pork, a fried egg, and a medley of other ingredients that clashed rather than complemented each other. It was a chaotic mishmash of flavors that worked against itself, leaving me wondering why anyone thought this was a good idea. Gimmicks like that are rarely a recipe for success in my experience. The tacos and wings? Equally lackluster. The wings were bland, devoid of any real flavor punch despite the garlic and Parmesan claims, and the tacos were so underwhelming they could have been served at a school cafeteria. In summary, Bent Run Brewery is just another cog in the wheel of craft beer clichés, serving up a loud atmosphere, long lines, and gimmicky food that fails to impress. If you're looking for a genuine experience with great beer and simple, tasty food, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. If you are able to "plug in" to this nonsense, then it's worth a try.
