So glad we chose to stay here while in Lawrence! The staff was great and the room was spacious and comfortable. There is a restaurant on the main floor and they offer great room service as well. The room was really clean, and the bed was mostly comfortable. I really liked that there was a way to adjust the room temperature and two TVs. The hotel itself is neat to look at with a lot of history

I was here for a holiday work party and we ordered appetizers. The five cheese Fonduta dip came out first and it was hot and super cheesy. The wings came out next and they were a great size and very moist! We also ordered a few sides of French fries and I love the beer batter. My co-worker ordered the lobster Mac n cheese. It's a good portion for the price, so don't let the price veer you away. She said it was jam packed with lobster and the cheese sauce is extremely rich. We finished up with with a skillet sundae which was a warm chocolate chip cookie in a hot cast iron skillet, with a chocolate drizzle and scoop of chocolate ice cream. We also ordered the creme brûlée it was perfect with the crunch on top with a creamy filling. I am glad we were able to have a good time and our server was very flexible accommodating everyone with drinks and appetizers.

Great size bed, That is extremely comfortable best pillows ever!

OK it's really important that you read the reviews they are confusing the restaurant from the hotel. This hotel provides plenty of upgrades that separate them from most properties! I travel a lot so I have to give this place five stars for going above and beyond. As far as designed I would give it first floor lobby bathrooms are 5 stars. Everything is glamorous, yet classy with a modern twist to traditional look. Now the room are extremely spacious but the design hasn't been updated so I would say 3 stars. Now the items in the room are 5 stars. Number one favorite thing was the beds. I'm in love with those pillows I need them in my life. They're true King size full, soft and firm at the same time. Completely in love with those pillows. Mattress was very comfortable. Bedding was clean and soft. Bathroom amenities included shampoo and conditioner that were gentle and I had Great results on my hair. The lotion was so moisturizing and light. The make up mirror was a great touch. Every day I got two bottled waters which was well needed. Q-tips and cotton pads for makeup removal were also a great touch. The towels like the bedding was definitely an upgrade because they were soft, large and Beautiful. Everything in the room was upgraded, there was plenty of outlets with USB outlets provided making it easy to charge phones. Service was excellent, room was cleaned daily. Hotel is located right in the heart of the town across the street from plenty of wonderful restaurants. I stayed here for five days so much to do so many wonderful places to eat. Felt very safe for evening jogs. Parking is an issue. As far as the hotel being haunted I did not experience any paranormal activities, lol. I was in room 505 and apparently 506 is supposed to be haunted, thankfully there's enough space between those walls that any supernatural activities stayed out of my room.

Getting 1 star only because you have too! Words can't begin to describe the disappointment and frustration with our dinner. Our son and girlfriend had been here in the past, and wanted to take us out for a nice dinner. Sadly, it was anything but! My only hope is that it was just a one bad night on their part. It started by waiting 15 minutes just to get our drinks, by minute 45 we finally received our starters. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts Chips and the Pretzel charcuterie board. I would rate them "ok"! The Brussel Sprout chips had more raisins than the Brussel sprouts themselves, and the pretzel charcuterie board had odd combinations of sausage, 1 slice of prosciutto, and 1 slice of ham. The cheese sauce to dip your pretzel in tasted like a cheese sauce from a jar. At minute 70....(yes, you read that right) our waiter came to tell us that there was some "printer problems in the kitchen and the orders all got lost". Now mind you there were 3 tables around us, that came after us, but still received their food. Another 30 minutes goes by, which by now we have been there for over 2 hours and we're just getting our food. By now, we're over this and just ready to leave. The manager came over when our food arrived and tried to explain the situation of what happened on the kitchen.....but no "I'm sorry for what took place". He would take off the price of the starters for us though, which we said keep the main course and we'll just pay for our starters. He did do the right thing and boxed up our food to take home, but to top it off when we opened our food at home it was missing side items. The picture below is of the chicken Marsala, which ended up being a bland/dry chicken breast with a few mushrooms on top, there was not 1 ounce of Marsala sauce. It was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and asparagus, but I guess it was easier to throw in bland broccoli. We didn't even touch the stuffed chicken as it looked like it still needed to be cooked. Again, I hope this was just a 1 night thing, but for now, I would say stay away!

Ah. History. I love it and I love it even more when I can stay at a beautiful, old hotel that is so rich in history such as The Eldridge. On both of my recent business trips, I stayed here and I found the staff to be welcoming and helpful, the rooms to be large and well appointed and the food to be quite tasty. There is even free wi fi which was greatly appreciated (makes me nuts when some hotels still charge for this) I did laugh when I checked in and the front desk clerk was like the "Price is Right" host asking me if I wanted the room that had been arranged for me, or if I wanted Room 506, which I guess is the hottest room at the hotel given it is purported to be haunted. Given I had a business meeting the next day, I opted for the room without nocturnal spirits but it was tempting! Turns out, the story is that the original hotel was destroyed years ago, but when it was re built, the original cornerstone is in Room 506 and is supposedly is the "portal " for which the ghosts enter and exit the building. Don't know if I am a believer but it's pretty good folklore! My rooms were both corner rooms with a separate seating area, large comfortable bed and since they faced the main street, there is even a little "white noise" machine you can use to block the street noise. On my visits there didn't appear to be any or maybe I'm used to the noise of Chicago, but no need to use the sleep machines in my mind. If I had a wish, it would be that there was a coffee machine in the room. Oh sure, you can wander down to the lobby and get a cup of Starbucks free just by the front desk but I would rather have it in my room as I hate getting dressed to go and find some coffee. The other challenge for me was that the light in the bathroom was behind me rather than in front of me. Tough for putting makeup on but I was able to rectify it by opening the blinds and using the mirror in the main room. Small things but for a business traveler really critical. The hotel has valet ($10, I must be in Kansas!) and if you don't see him when you pull in, just lock your car and leave it. You can give your keys to the front desk person who will find him. All in all a great place to stay, reasonably priced, close to everything Lawrence has to offer!

The cheese also had a skin indicating it was anything but fresh. The salsa tasted like it was fresh, fresh out of the pace jar. The flatbread we ordered also came out burned. Not so here. In fact, it was truly awful.  We booked a week here. Not a brief visit. We arrived late on a Friday night and had conveyed we'd be late due to a long drive. When I went to check in about 9:30pm a male, Asian front desk clerk said 'oh good. You're the last one I'm waiting for.'  OK ... we got our keys and went up to our Room 202. Immediately noticed a strong, stale, moldy mildew smell. The bathroom had wallpaper peeling off and a lot of mold in the shower crevices. The next morning, we went down to the grab and go breakfast. If you enjoy high sugar,  prepackaged gas station food...this one's for you.  I asked if there were any hard boiled eggs.  No. Coffee had no nondairy creamer and tasted like dirty water. We told the front desk  girl about the smell in our room and also requested additional towels.   When we used the keurig in our room, it was no better than the lobby coffee.  Headed to  IHOP disappointed. Upon returning that evening,  the smell in the room was no better. We ran the air conditioner  24/7. No extra towels....but there were dirty, wet ones in the wardrobe from the previous person. Gross. By the third morning, my husband and I were feeling terrible. Headaches,  congestion, generally  awful. That morning, we told the front desk they needed to resolve the smell and, by the way, still no extra towels and trash is overflowing.  That evening, we could tell something had been sprayed to cover the odor but the problem was not solved. My husband  went down to the front desk to  insist on a new room while my daughter and I packed up our stuff...including  the towels and wash cloths we finally got the  previous evening. Still trash and wet towels in the room. We moved to Room 224. Thankfully,  this room had no smell and was in good condition.  It is apparent that housekeeping and  maintenance  staff desperately need training. Our second room was never turned either. We saw the manager on 3 separate occasions,  including checkout,  and were never asked how our stay was. We noticed he was in his office and wondered how it's possible to manage a hotel from behind a desk? Hopefully,  the corporate owner and/or Holiday  Inn will realize this facility  requires desperate help so other customers will not be subjected to these issues in the future.

First off the location is good and easy access from the interstate. The people were friendly and accommodating to our needs. Now the cons.... (One star knocked for each issue... It drives me crazy when you have to pay for breakfast, especially at a hotel like this, convention space and all. I am also a Hilton honors silver member. Even though it is not "gold" or whatever breakfast should still be included. It was $20/person and this WAS NOT CLEAR when I booked through the Hilton app. This Hilton Honors family was just not too happy about the breakfast situation :-(. Secondly, the pool is in the center part of the lobby. When you walk into the hotel there is a pool/chlorine chemicals type smell. Again just not the warm chocolate chip cookie smell we come to expect. This is also horrific for people with any respiratory illness or chronic health condition that trigger migraines. Thirdly, the restaurant does not allow any outside food. However the lobby area has seating with low coffee type tables. As a person is severe food allergies it is hard to eat at established restaurants so we typically bring our food and eat at a table in the lobby. The set up did not make it easy or comfortable to do this. Even if they could remove some of the glass wall to open up the tables and seating for people in the lobby would have been welcoming for guests. It just felt like this doubletree is catering to their business and not the guests that give them the business. Lastly the carpet.... Yug and the elevator steamy!! Please get some air flow in your elevator. The floor was so wet due to the pool being in the lobby.... BOTH ELEVATORS..... and the floor in our room felt like it seriously needed a good shampoo and time to dry. All in all, this is a great place if you are going for a pool party in the lobby but if you're here for any other reason I would choose somewhere else.

He ( I assume mgr since he was training a new employee) said he would send a maintenance man, but, it was 10Pm. We were in our night gowns. So I said no not now, the time to fix it was when and if the housekeeper had reported it, which in my opinion would have been when she cleaned it. He handed the phone off to a trainee and left.
